The Fox Pub and Restaurant in Rutland

My husband and I decided to have the salmon which was cooked to perfection and throughly enjoyed. The staff were really polite and welcoming. Will definitely return again and again.

A lovely Easter Sunday lunch, great touch with the chocolate treats on the table! Although fully booked and very busy there was enough attentive staff to complement the high quality and value of our lunch. Well done again The Fox!

A wonderful gastro pub. The staff were excellent..as was the food. I had a pork baguette with fries.the Fox offers good parking facilities.

Very good atmospheric village pub with a good selection of proper beers and a better than pub grub menu that we all enjoyed. All served by friendly attentive hosts. And the prices sensible too.

We were staying for just one night at a nearby B&B and visited for dinner. The welcome we got from staff and locals alike was so friendly, we felt like old friends! Our meals were amazing, so delicious! And we were even persuaded to join in with the quiz night so ended up having the most fantastic and fun evening. Thank you to the Fox and your awesome staff!

We had a great lunch. It started with a lovely welcome, the food was really good and so was the beer. Lovely people, food and place. A friend who recommended The Fox said 'food is a decent quality and environment is pleasant' - she was spot on. We'll be back and often.

Never written a review before, so this had to be good. Proper country pub,reasonable prices, great choice of pub classics. We all enjoyed the meal. It had a good amount of customers eating. This included a range of ages. They have a sandwich menu which looked interesting. Highly, recommend this as a lunch destination. We will be back for lunch again.

Popped in for a look and ordered a drink around 4pm. Beautifully decorated and toilets pristine. Pleasant sitting area in restaurant section. A few diners remained after their meal which probably testimony to their satisfaction. A group of regulars in the bar area who were neither welcoming nor unwelcoming. A smart place to dine, although cannot comment on the fair . Prices are commensurate with other pubs in the vicinity. Bear and wine was excellent and a reasonable price. Staff helpful when we enquired about Sunday lunch booking, although the 4pm cut off for kitchen , scuppered our plans. Huge car park and nice patio area. Camra Rutland pub of the year, I am not surprised. Overall a positive experience, nothing negative to say.

We thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday lunch at The Fox. The food, drinks and service were all excellent.

Buzzing with customers…great atmosphere for a village pub…nicely decorated and very friendly staff…l had the chicken liver parfait..and then the home made steak and ale pie.. Delicous! The Fox certainly had a winning formula…this was our second visit and it won’t be our last….

Staying in Manton for a week I did a desk-top survey of the pub restaurants in the area based on TA reviews and the establishments' menus as posted on their website. We some heistation we landed up at the Fox for a Saturday evening meal. We both had haddock & spinach fishcakes off the specials board for starters and beef pie / chicken salad for mains, with yours truly seldom able to resist crème brûlée for afters... Well, the meat pie was fantastic - nicely-cooked shortcrust pastry top & bottom and packed with tasty and prime-quality beef. I always take others "best ever" tributes with more than a pinch of salt but this was indeed one of the best steak pies I've ever had. Save for overcooked mange tout all the food was pretty faultless and the service very attentive too, so we booked to return on the Monday. Unfortunately for us none of the Saturday team was there on the Monday and it was obvious from the presentation (my wife had the same starter & salad main) that the kitchen was in different hands too. I should probably have gone for the pie again but, as it was only two days later, I went for the slightly more expensive lamb shank off the specials board instead. Sadly that was only average as lamb shanks go. So full marks for the Saturday, not-so-good on the Monday, but perhaps we were just unlucky. It certainly has a nice atmosphere and I would happily go again if in the area.

Fish and chips. Nicely cooked battered fish and crispy chunky chips washed down with a pint of Bakers Dozen Magic Potion. Great service and great food. An excellent lunch which will have to be repeated soon.

Went as family group and sat outside under their nice canopy. Incredibly busy inside and out. Always great sign. Staff charming and food really impressive. Beef pie described by father in law as best he’s ever eaten. I’d agree.

Four of us came for lunch for a catch up with each other and very much enjoyed the food and the service. When booking in advance I had asked for a chair with arms for my disability and a certain table which gave some space for access. Also I had mentioned my dietary requirements. Everything was set up for us when we arrived with a friendly welcome. We all enjoyed our food of starters, main course, coffee/dessert and spent a lovely time chatting. Thank you to everyone from chef to servers who made the time go so well. If ever in the area again we would certainly return!

The pub is in a quiet village away from any main roads. However, it was worth the trip for the fish and chips. The dining area had tables reasonably spread out and staff were friendly. Would return.

Whilst staying in holiday accommodation nearby we dined at this wonderful country pub on three occasions. We had our small dog with us but this was no problem. Each evening we were seated in the lounge area which was lovely and we were made most welcome. By the third evening we felt like locals. The food is excellent, beautifully cooked and presented. The pub serves a good range of beers including local ales. The staff are friendly and professional. Although we were there mid week it was busy and buzzing so would recommend booking to avoid disappointment. Can't wait to return.

Our three families met here travelling from East Coast of Lincolnshire, Malton, N. Yorks & Farnborough as travelling distances were about the same for everyone. It was my partners birthday a d he had no idea the family were going to be there. We have eaten inThe Fox when we have been staying in our caravan at the Paddock and have always enjoyed everything about this beautiful country pub. A proper friendly village pub with great food and a lovely atmosphere. Had been meaning to come here for a while as our local in Empingham now shocking. We’ll be back, all 3 staff we met were charming and attentive. Everything spotlessly clean. Fantastic.

Ate here after the Rutland 10k. Very busy but we managed to book a table the week before and so glad we did! Lovely little pub find. Food was delicious and served quickly. Portions were massive too. Would highly recommend this place!

We met up with friends for lunch recently as we had enjoyed a meal here just prior lockdown. It is every bit as good as previous. The food was well prepared, delivered hot to the table and was very tasty. The staff are lovely, nothing is too much trouble and they find time to have a little light-hearted banter with you and without intruding on the meal, such a refreshing change from some other hostelries.What's not to like at the Fox Inn - nice atmosphere, good food and attentive staff, absolutely great! We will be back again in the near future.

The pub was recommended by our Airbnb hosts and we were so pleased that they did. We were advised to book a table which was just as well because it was very busy.The food was superb and the staff were very friendly and welcoming.Would love to visit again and try something else from the menu.

The food is outstanding, service superb and the general ambience of the pub great. My wife was incredibly impressed, particularly as she likes her steak "cooked until the chef weeps" and it was presented perfectly, with a pepper sauce to die for! Good selection of real ales, wines and other drinks too. Well worth the visit, will definitely return.

Very busy pub, obviously a firm favourite with the locals which tells you something. Excellent meal, plenty of choice for all including our GF friend. The staff are very obliging, work hard and are very much a team. Nothing was too much trouble. We visited whilst on holiday in the area and wouldn’t hesitate to return.

Took advantage of the great weather and booked an outside table for Sunday lunch and took along the dogs. The pub was busy and they were short staffed but the few team that were on worked their socks off to still deliver a great experience. Haven't been for Sunday lunch before but definitely will be again. Huge portion, all cooked really perfectly. Really cheesy yummy cauliflower cheese to boot. Really friendly service.

Had lunch and a beer after a walk with my U3A group. The fish and chips was very tasty and well cooked so the meat was white, flaky and moist. Just like it should be. The chips were chunky cut correctly cooked and firm. A very pleasant lunch served with a good range of real ales from local breweries.

My wife and I went for dinner at The Fox with our eight month old son and border terrier whilst staying nearby in Oakham. We were immediately made to feel welcome by the staff upon arrival and the service throughout was attentive. I had the prawn and salmon salad to start and my wife had the goats cheese salad. We both really enjoyed them and then for mains I had the steak and ale pie and my wife had the Panko and Parmesan chicken which again we both really liked. The amount of steak contained in the pie was particularly impressive! Strongly recommend going if you’re in the area.

Popped in for food after cycling around Rutland water (also worthwhile). Fab food and very attentive staff. We are moving into this area and this will definitely be our new local.

This pub was recommended to me by a friend and it did not disappoint. A family group of four stopped for a quick lunch and we were met by the friendly staff and we chose the pork pie with Stilton. It was delicious and excellent value. We live over 100 miles away but would be regular visitors if we were closer

We stopped here after cycling round the lake and found all the pubs and cafes on the circuit were packed with long waiting times, so we popped in the car and this was only a few minutes drive. There was plenty of space in the garden and we were very quickly seated and offered drinks.The menu is great, really varied and lots of fresh interesting food. It all tasted delicious and was cooked perfectly. A great find we would highly recommend.

We booked an early table on a Monday after the eat out to help out had finished. We expected the pub to be quiet but on the contrary plenty of tables were taken. The staff were really welcoming and the food was excellent with wonderful presentation and attention to detail. There was a wide choice of menu and a good range of local beers. It was very Covid friendly. North Luffenham can count itself lucky having this hidden gem tucked away. We can thoroughly recommend a visit.

Recommended by a friend and since EOHO has finished, we didn’t think to book a table. Inside was full, but there were several tables outside which had plenty of lovely flowers around them. The staff were all masked up and kept their distances, and the service was very quick. As a coeliac who has to eat gluten free, they had hand annotated and menu for me so I could see what I could have. The starters were lovely and my steak was cooked to perfection with not an ounce of fat on it. My partner had fish and chips and said it was amazing.

Away for the weekend hadn’t booked, got there late afternoon our first meal out since lockdown so a bit apprehensive, felt extremely welcome and safe, fabulous service very friendly food was lovely would definitely go back if in the sea and would highly recommend

Good meal, good service, reasonably priced. Oakham ales not our favourite but that's a personal taste, theres always wine. Would recommend.

My 1st visit today with my parents, a birthday lunch for my mum. Very clean and well presented when you walk in the door. Attentive staff, but not in an “in your face” way. The food we ordered arrived in good time despite it being a busy lunchtime. Could not fault the roast beef dinner, the remainder of our party were equally as delighted with their food choices. I always visit pub loos to check out cleanliness etc regardless if I need to use them as I think this area reflects the staffs attitude to cleanliness everywhere else. Verdict? Quite possibly the cleanest facilities I have seen in a very long time.All in all, good value for money, excellent staff and food, top marks for cleanliness, will visit again when in the area.

Stopped of for lunch recently on our way up the A1M. Only 10 minutes from motorway so very easy. Very dog & child friendly (our daughter's childrens burger was enormous !) and really lovely food & setting.Very much a thumbs up from all of us so well done to all concerned ! Lovely walk afterwards round Rutland Water with the dog afterwards & then we were back on the A1M 10 minutes laterThis will now become our regularly lunchtime stop off when we are off to visit the family up North

As we previously lived in the area and holidaying in Rutland we booked in for lunch with friends. Lovely warm welcome well spaced dining area. Menu although at first glance appeared simple however it proved to be well presented and cooked, in fact it exceeded our expectations. Fantastic, we would certainly recommend it.

Had the ‘make over ‘ lost none of its charm. Bar, seating area or tables plus great unfussy food. A village pub with a home feel. A great evening, thank you guys

We have just returned from a visit to Rutland and had lunch in this delightful pub, serving lovely food at very reasonable prices. The portions are generous and the staff are great. We will return again next year.

We went for Sunday Lunch for the first time. I was brought up in Rutland and now live there. North Luffenham is a lovely sleepy village and the Fox seems to attract lots of villagers which is always a good sign. The pub itself has a lovely friendly atmosphere. At 2pm it was busy without being crowded with several eating. Another good sign. I ordered roast beef and my wife had chicken. I had a great pint of JHB which is one of my favourites. The meals arrived and straight away you noticed the generous portions of meat. I don’t understand how anyone can have more than one course as we couldn’t eat any more. The food was first class, meat tender, roast potatoes and Yorkshire pud perfect as was the vegetables. We will certainly be returning. Nearly forgot but the service was first class.

The pub has been nicely refitted and blends modern touches with old building. The food is okay but fairly standard pub food nothing different from most other pubs. The service is pleasant and the drinks as you would expect.

Enjoyable experience, Good quality food well cooked and presented by pleasant helpful attentive staff. Starters and Sweets are a little pricey. Very clean and tidy. Would dine there again. Small car park for such a popular pub.

Turned up here after a walk at Rutland Water. Nice and simple Sunday Lunch menu with fixed price for each of 3 course and a choice of 6 or 7 items in each. Glad we booked as it was very busy. Between us, we had main courses of beef, scampi, veg jalfrezi and pork. All good sized portions and nicely cooked.

Loved this place, food was great and very accomading with our 2 doggies. We were made really welcome, nothing was too much trouble including taking my poo bag for one of our dogs and disposing of it for me.

We had a family meal for nine (including two small children and a baby) on a Sunday lunchtime. The food was excellent all round, including roast dinners, curry, and so on and the prices represented excellent value. The service was also exceptionally efficient and friendly. Should also mention the excellent real ales.

I am so pleased to write a positive review. Last time we came things were not great but this time excellent. The bar was buzzing and the restaurant nicely laid out. Good beer and wine plus an excellent non pretentious selection of good value food.

Lunch for two with the better half. Fantastic steak for me and a healthy portion size of scampi for the wife. Treacle tart to follow, and a couple of drinks. Weather was terrible but the fox can't be blamed for that. Food and service all very good.

We arranged to meet friends at the Fox and Hounds as it was midway between us and how pleased we were with the result! We arrived shortly after the midday opening just as the owners were gearing up and what a pleasant surprise! The place was warm and inviting (they had just stoked up the fire) with a lovely atmosphere and we were greeted just like regulars although this was our first (but not out last) visit here. We were offered a choice of tables in the very comfy dining area and our drinks came quite quickly. There was a nice selection of dishes on the menu to suit most tastes. Our food arrived well presented and nice and hot despite by this time the inn filling up with customers and the staff being very busy. Nothing was too much trouble and the friendly banter helped make this a pleasant place to be. We stayed for extra coffees and teas as we felt so relaxed and comfortable, indeed, we had to force ourselves away as we had other engagements to attend to.

We met as family for lunch here today. What a lovely pub! The village location is delightful, the car park is easily accessible and clearly marked, the outside seating area has some great pub style table/benches and lovely planted troughs, it looks pretty and inviting. Inside the decor is modern and tasteful, the two ladies on the bar couldn’t of been more friendly or helpful if they tried! For starters we had two whitebait (well cooked and tasty) goats cheese salad (the goats cheese was delicious, very creamy) and chicken liver pate with some superb toast. For mains one burger (ginormous! And cooked lovely) fish and chips - excellent, chicken with Parmesan crust (succulent) and scampi (well cooked and hot) the chips are definitely chunky, and fluffy inside. And one sticky toffee pudding for desert which was TO DIE FOR! Overall it was all delicious, well cooked, nicely presented (great size & well dressed side salad garnish on most dishes). The toilets were clean, as was the bar area, coffee was lovely, overall what a gem! North Luffenham is lucky to have such a cracking pub in their village, we will return.

This was our 1st visit to The Fox T North Luffenham and I can safely say it will not be our last. First impressions are important and we were very impressed by the car park which was clean and tidy. There was plenty of space for outdoor dining and this was well set out and very well cared for. Inside everywhere was spotlessly clean and well maintained. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food we all had was excellent. It being a Sunday lunch we all 4 had a roast dinner. This was plentiful attractively presented and exceedingly tasty. Would have no hesitation in recommending this pub.

Wonderful find! Close to Rutland water and all the pretty towns of Oakham and Uppingham. Idyllic hamlet with ye olde village pub slap bang in the centre. Walk in an Farrow & Ball decor always a firm nod that good things are to come. Charming front of house team, quality food, excellently cooked and presented. Massive portions!
