The Fox Inn in Basingstoke and Deane

New tenant after being closed for much of 2023. Doing their best in very tough times, little care to the garden which in the past has been a positive feature. No complaints about the ales!

We had an enjoyable visit on 8th July between 13.00-16.00. We were part of a group to celebrate our neighbours 90th birthday. The buffet food was delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Had a great time out with the family can't wait to go back try food next week

The Fox Inn has a great beer garden and friendly atmosphere but the food is average and over priced for the quality of the food. I had the half rack of ribs which was basically the same as you buy in Lidl but get the whole rack for £4 - these were £16 so expected more. They came with chips and the smallest pot of coleslaw (not home made). The chicken burger was the smallest chicken burger I have seen and again for £13 you expect better and more. I know pubs are having a hard time of it but you still expect value for money. I would visit the pub again as it does have a nice out look but it will be for drinks only.

Lots of beers available, the beer garden is a joy on a sunny day thats next to a giant field but they barely serve any food unfortunately.

We attended a friend's birthday party with an excellent band and disco. The buffet was very good & Mark & Sarah made every effort to ensure the night went well. Thank you!

The owners and the team are absolutely amazing. We held a family wake here and they couldn't do enough for us. Great function and good spread.

Terrible pub with horrendous service landlords drinking on shift getting wasted have a 0 rating for food hygiene stay clear people have drugs being used definitely is not a family friendly pub and for a 17 year old to be left behind the bar to run the place at times also isn’t legal !!

More than 2 hour wait for food, starters arrived very late and in over a 25 minute period, which was awkward. To be fair they were very apologetic at the end and did not charge us for any of the food. Food was OK, not worth more than 2 hours of waiting for, they kept telling us it was just coming, we had young children with us so it was very difficult. Play area had quite a lot of dog poo in the grass and around it - really disgusting. Not what we expected at all, very disappointed. Probably fine for a quick pint and some crisps.

It’s a nice pub, decor and great views from the garden. But each time we’ve been in over the sat few months, something is broken, or run out, either a choice of bottled cider, snacks or the kitchen itself, which seems to be closed on an regularly on an irregular basis.

I wanted to confirm an earlier review! I gave this pin a poor one the first time but ……on the second visit !! The food, ambiance and staff were amazing.

We stopped off for lunch on our way home to London from the West Country. The food was decidedly average with a defrosted small, flat burger and a simple white bun on the kids menu which my son refused to eat. My fish pie was a little better but more potato and egg than anything else. The chips were decent and the garden was nice enough, with friendly staff, but not worth going out of your way to get to this pub.

I book for Sunday 24th to meet my daughter and her family for her birthday. When I called to book the lady was friendly and so looked forward to our visit. When we arrived the welcome was not there I was told you can sit where you like, but all the tables looked dirty and weren't even laid for lunch. Whilst waiting for my daughter to arrive I went to the ladies which was a horror show! The door to it was bolted and I had to struggle to unbolt it, shame because once in I wished I hadn't. Bearing in mind this was 12.30 lunch time the whole toilet was disgusting! Both toilets were dirty and stained and only one had toilet tissue and of course that was the one that didn't lock. The hand basin was filthy and there were paper towels overflowing from the bin and all over the floor. Luckily for us my daughter and her family had arrived at a different Fox Inn so we made our excuses and left. You can't order food in a place that is so dirty!

The vegetarian options were already limited and then two of the options were off the menu that day. The other meals that we ordered were bland; the chips were overcooked and the rice dry. The pub and the gardens look tired, untidy and in need of a good re-furb.

Decent little pub garden, costs is on par with all other pubs. Atmosphere is okay, staff are friendly.

Went there for a wake. The food served was very nice indeed.

I'm sure this is a fine pub if you like basic. The photos on the website are obviously not recent. the website looks quite nice and mentions roaring fires. didnt see any fires... I'm glad i didnt dress up as i was the only woman in there, and everyone else was not dressed up. We had called the day before and booked a table. That wasn't necessary. If they had told us that dining wasnt really their thing, or that they didnt have a chef on thursdays, we wouldnt have bothered. this is really a male oriented wet pub with food as a side event. so much for individually prepared food by a chef. i had sausge and mash. cheap sausages, frozen peas, and bisto type gravy. hubby had hunters chcken. it was served with 'triple cooked chips'. more like overcooked and reheated chips. not much else except some slaw. edible, but not particularly nice. the beer on the other hand was good. we both had a nice pint of seafarers. The barmaid was friendly. perhaps it's better when the chef is working. We are unlikely to go back

Better decor would encourage 5 stars, but food is very good and there's a good choice. Lots of space, good pool table. Staff are nice. Fine for lunch and dinner. Real fireplace. Decent parking.

Good place to eat and see friends..

Last night we held a party for 50 people in the events room at the Fox and it was absolutely brilliant. The Xmas decs made the room feel festive, the ambience was great and the buffet superb. In addition, Sarah & Marc were helpful and considerate and their efforts helped make evening a real success

Very pleasant staff, good atmosphere and the roast lunch was just like home and vert reasonably priced. Will go back again.

We went to the Fox for dinner, knowing it has been refurbished. Chicken wings in blue cheese sauce: chicken wings were anaemic, blue cheese did not taste of blue cheese…. Chicken katsu had a very dark brown sauce and no presentation, just rice on a plate and chicken in sauce on top. Taste wise it was okay. Prices were okay considering the size of the portions, the quality was just not there. The staff was really lovely, welcoming and helpful.

Great little pub and a proper PUB, great atmosphere friendly and proper pub grub too pool table and dart board, pub garden and nice view of the fields. Would recommend 👍🏼

Went Last Sunday, first time going ,had an amazing roast dinner

Very welcoming. Popped in for a drink. Felt covid safe, but without it being too much in your face. Friendly staff, will definately be back. Used to live in Foxmoor Close and this was our haunt when we were courting 30 years ago 😂 still felt as ease now.

Food was very good and very reasonably priced. The service was first class and very welcoming. Good large garden and children’s play equipment at one end of the garden. Would definitely recommend this pub to friends.

We stopped off at the Fox for a pint and a sandwich, two of us had the steak and onion and one had the cut ham. They were delicious and so were the fat chips . The lady who served us was very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Would certainly recommend this pub and its sandwiches which were very reasonably priced.

A lovely couple running the pub. Had a lovely lunch, will definitely go back. They went beyond their duty, when I made the booking two weeks before we went on the 22nd April for 1230 for lunch as allowed to sit outside only after pubs opening from the 12th. When I rang on the 21st to confirm booking obviously since they reopened they had decided during the week not to open until 4pm. He apologised profusely and opened early for us to have our lunch as my brother who has learning difficulties hadn’t been out since October.

great idea for during lockdown and a friendly service to order, collected as instructed and loved we all the food - portion size was great, tasted good and the chips were amazing - no hesitation in recommending and look forward to having another take away.

Had a Sunday lunch with 16 people. Everyone enjoyed their food and service was excellent. I’ve paid a lot more for the same quality elsewhere. Looks as though the beer garden will be great in the summer too.

Went here to eat on 23rd December with family only to find the place closed for a private function despite advertised opening hours saying that they would be open.

Went for a pre dinner Christmas drink. Pub not overly busy considering it’s Christmas Day but only two people serving with 3 bar serving areas so had to wait to get served. Enjoying my drink and when finished went to the bar and both barmen...

Large group prebooked. Had to ask for menus twice even though table was ready. 20 mins to order drinks and order was not completed and still charged for kids meal even though only had chips and 1 scoop of ice cream as rest didn't come...

Having checked the lunch opening times for today 25.11.19 I arrived with my daughter for her birthday meal at 12.15 to find the door locked and the whole place in darkness. There was no indication either on the website or at the premises of the reason. No wonder pubs are struggling for business.

Great place to go to lovely food

Upon arrival at this venue, following a delightful walk through the beautiful surrounding countryside we were excited as the location and views are spectacular. Unfortunately the welcome, choice of beer and customer service is seriously lacking. Upon some constructive and not unreasonable feedback, the personality vacuum of a landlord (and this is me being nice) kindly suggested we seek other establishments. Which we did, and much to out delight as less than a mile in either direction are four wonderful pubs with local characters and owners who are bubbly, welcoming and truly epitomise what it means to be a local pub. The Fox is could be incredible, unfortunately they have not kept up with what customers want or what great customer service really means which is sad for the venue and for the surrounding village.

Cold plates. Undercooked potatoes. Slow service. Dark empty room with no atmosphere. Tables empty, no salt or pepper. Wouldn't return until improvements to food and management of pub are made.

On the website The Fox Inn is given a high star rating, hence we booked Sunday lunch there. However we thought initially we had come to the wrong Fox Inn. There was no atmosphere, nothing was set up to make you feel comfortable, the service was slow, little things that matter were not on the table i.e. salt and pepper!!!! The food was ok, although plates cold, vegetables under cooked....it all seemed a very strange set up. The lady serving us was very pleasant, the other waitresses could have been a bit more cheerful.

Been in a few times since it has reopened but sadly it hasn't impressed. Doesn't feel clean, kids homework/shoes lying around the bar, general lack of care and customer service. The only food on offer was toasted sandwiches for the first couple of visits, then...

Local pub under new ownership as of late. Prices are never going to be near what they're like in town or at a chain-y pub like Wetherspoons but you'd never get as warm a welcome as me and my friend got in our local pub. They look to be serving some decent affordable snacks too like panini, fries and garlic mushrooms, but we didn't try them. I suspect they'll be coming out with a full food menu some time soon.

Still getting up and running under new management. Bar meals at present, which are filling and tasty. Looking forward to appealing meals, as per new menu, once kitchen refit has been done. Maybe a bit more advertising/promotion required locally and perhaps a coach party afternoon tea promotion?

It closed down for refurbishment before Christmas and there is no sign that it will open under new ownership in the new year as promised. Local rumour is that it will be closed permanently which seems not unlikely given the lack of news
