The Fox & Hounds in South Gloucestershire

This pub was lovely and cosy with a warm welcome from the staff and the dog. The menu has a great range of traditional English grub with something for everyone. In addition there are specials on the board too. I chose the steak and kidney pudding and I chose well! The suet pudding case was perfectly cooked with beautifully cooked beef and kidney in a thick rich gravy. So tasty and a good generous portion that is grwat value for money. Only 10 mins off the M4 makes it an ideal dinner stop when we are headed for the ferry at Fishguard. Please note, we booked a table just in case and we're glad we did even on a Wednesday evening. Watch out for the resident dog who supervises the serving of the meals and patiently waits by the table just in case something might drop down his way. If you don't feed him he'll happily try the next table. Definitely worth a return trip.

A great pub with an amazingly large menu. The food is excellent and the portion size is very generous too. There’s a good selection of drinks available so there’s something to please everyone. It’s also got a very big car park.

I booked a table for myself and 10 friends for a college reunion. Atmosphere was very welcoming and the staff friendly and attentive. Feel we were quite challenging as we all chose different main courses but we need not have worried. Food was well presented and delicious, Our meals were all served together and service was excellent. Really good value in all respects

Came in for dinner as a family. What can I say? So many choices on the menu, food was served quickly, piping hot and delicious. Lovely team of staff, Lisa, Bev and another lady (didn’t catch her name) were very attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. Well worth a visit and Weill definitely be back!!

My daughter, son in law, granddaughter took me for a meal here on Monday evening. I had been staying with them for a couple of weeks, so this was my treat before driving home. The food was delicious, beautifully presented and arrived hot. We all were so full after our meal that we could not eat a dessert. I had the Steak and Ale pie, fabulous, my daughter had the vegetarian wellington, granddaughter had the belly of pork with cider sauce (i think that was the one she chose) my son in law had a chicken dish with filo pastry (not sure what it was called). We presumed the lady that took our orders and delivered the food was one of the owners, she worked so hard getting everyone's food out to table. All I can say, please visit this pub, the food , ambience, service, drinks were delicious, well worth the money. Thank you to the chef and kitchen staff.

Wonderful food, large portions and super lovely staff. The gorgeous resident spaniel is a treat too, he would wander quietly saying hello to everyone.

Visited here last saturday night with friends, we haven't been here for years, a very nice pub, nice decor, a good selection of drinks, the food was absolutley lovley and the waitressess were very nice. We will return.

Local vilage pub, friendly, clean, hygienic and fabulous hot breakfast with excellent ingredients. Was a Voucher from friends and it was a real treat. Highly recommended.

This evening, my wife, friend & myself have had one of our best three course pub meals ever. All the staff were so helpful & friendly and made us very welcome. It’s how a country pub should be….cosy, roaring log fire, lovely ambience and an extensive yet inexpensive menu with generous portions of good quality food.

Literally just visited for Mother’s Day - very busy but what a treat - THANK YOU! Key highlights were: Warm Welcome; Decent choice of menu; Really swift service; EXCELLENT food; Portion Size REALLY impressive and accompanied by an equally generous choice of fresh vegetables; GREAT value for money!! All in all a REAL find (it was recommended to us by a friend of a family member we’d not eaten there before) and one to which we’ll absolutely go back in the week to see what their ‘standard’ weekly menu is like!! THANK YOU!!!

12 of us gathered to celebrate an 80th birthday lunch. Very well looked after an excellent meal was enjoyed by all. Great selection and HOT plates was much appreciated. Thank you.

Always consistently good food, proper pub grub done really well. Ladies behind the bar are always friendly and after a dreadful experience at another nearby pub came here to have faith in humanity restored!

Stopped for some dinner before heading back to Bristol, so random pick. Turned out a very good choice! Lovely pie for me and a perfect steak for my brother in law. Couldn't fault anything. Bonus was the arrival of the Christmas float and welcoming father Christmas, the Grinch and the elves! Recommended, and we'll be back.

Had a great lunch excellent staff. Shame some busybody reported my son for mucking about with my grandson to the Police. And they had officers waiting for them at home when they got there If you have something to say stand up and speak ,gutless.

We have been to this pub on numerous occasions.Went for Sunday lunch on October 22nd…very busy!! Shown to our table and then forgotten. Waited at least 20 minutes and eventually someone took our order and we were instructed to get drinks from the bar (usually drinks are served at the table) Food was ok but upset to hear people on tables around us being served drinks at the table. I had to get the attention of a waitress to get a desert menu and then no-one came back to take our order. Very disappointed…not enough staff and some of them obviously didn’t have a clue what they were doing!!! No idea how to meet and greet or deal with people. Will be giving this pub a wide birth for a very long time, no customer service whatsoever

I visited here with friends and had a lovely meal. The curry was delicious. The only small moan was that we were sat right next to the bar, which was very loud with locals drinking.

We cannot rate this any higher. The food is always excellent, with a large choice on the menu to suit everyone. The portions are always generous with excellent value for money. No matter how busy they are, you are always made extremely welcome by friendly staff. Definitely our favourite place to eat and recommend to everyone !

Good pub, good food, good service, good company - what more does one need? We went to the Fox and Hounds with some friends for lunch mid-week. Everything was good and we enjoyed a relaxing meal from a good menu. Portions were generous and the local beer excellent.

We booked for lunch to celebrate a birthday. Being mid-week it was quite quiet but the service was great. The food was delicious and we can recommend the Chicken Paris and the prawn and cod mornay. The desserts were lovely too -the baileys chocolate trifle and the warm cherry tart were the ones we chose but there were some others we wanted to try too! We will definitely be returning.

Fabulous everything, starting with a friendly welcome, decent seating (inside and out) and a lovely Sunday lunch menu served with a good selection of vegetables. The daily specials on the board looked good too.

As I was staying at a holiday let opposite the pub, eat here 3 times during the week, on each occasion the the service, and ambience in this village pub was spot on. A really great menu at reasonable prices. Had been warned you get hugh portions, which is the case, but not at the expense of quality which was first rate.

We visited on a weekday lunchtime having booked a table in advance which was just as well as it was very busy. Our food came quickly and was absolutely delicious. Can thoroughly recommend the cod and prawn mornay. There only appeared to be one lady doing all the serving and bar but she did it admirably with a smile. We will certainly be going back soon to try out some of the rest of the menu which had a number of interesting dishes at reasonable prices.

Very reluctant to recommend this establishment. It was very busy the Sunday afternoon we went, because it is so very good, and another recommendation might make it even more difficult to get a booking. And a booking will most likely be needed if you want to go here. The portion size should satisfy the ravenous of diners. Good sized helpings of meat and well cooked potatoes were accompanied by 9 different vegetables. All well cooked and tasty. The price was fair making the overall value exceptional. If I had to make a criticism it could be that the tables are a little tightly packed, not that it was a problem once seated but moving around was a bit awkward. Also had to chase up our sweet, twice! But both partly because they were extremely busy, victims of their success maybe. Yes extremely good value.

Lovely Christmas decorations and a roaring fire.Staff always polite and friendly.Both opted for the Sunday roast Lamb, which came with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pud, red cabbage and parsnip, and a side dish of carrots, broccoli, green beans and cauliflower cheese.Everything was piping hot and very tasty.Dessert ... sticky toffee pudding with sauce and ice cream / mango cheesecake with cream.I highly recommend this lovely place , never fails to impress.

We were actually staying in our caravans on the car park so decided what better than to eat in the pub! It has a lovely atmosphere, very inviting and it was beautifully decorated for the Christmas period. The lady who served us was friendly and very helpful. Aside from the main menu, there was a very good specials board. I chose the breaded brie which came with a lovely salad and warm bread, it was yummy! This was followed by scrumptious pork belly with dauphinois potatoes and a very good selection of vegetables.(You can choose which potatoes you would like and you can substitute the veg for salad) We had no room for dessert but I can assure you they looked delicious! Thank you for a deleicious and filling meal. We'll be back I can promise you that!

We went here in a group of 13. We pre booked and the table was laid waiting for us. The staff were very helpful and polite. The menu was great, lots of choice to suit all tastes, and all home made. Portions were very good. There is a large car park to the side so plenty of space. Would highly recommend this place.

Being regulars here now can never fault the food portions are huge service is always attentive and quality is always there, personal favourite of chicken paris. the sticky toffee pudding is always a bonus if you have room for it !!!

I will start with the best bit. It was pouring with rain, we got to the door and fought the obligatory shuffle with the man in the porch cigarette in hand.Inside it was lovely, they had 2 real ales, doom bar and piston broke.My friend chose doombar, I reserved judgement. Half way through pulling the doombar the barrel “went”. Wonderful I thought, what an opportunity. The bar lady sent her friend downstairs to change the barrel. I suggested we could have 2 pints straight from the barrel! She returned, to say it was not possible!She proceeded to top up the existing awful half pint of the dregs of the last barrel with what was still in the pipe, furthermore she overpulled the same pint until the 4 inches of froth ran down the side of the glass. What I now had was a mix of the worst of the last barrel and the best of the new!Awful!My friend, discerningly, chose a pint of piston broke. He said it was worse than mine!I do struggle with public houses that do not clean their lines between barrels.We drank almost ½ pint each and left nearly £9 pourer.Make you’re own mind up.
