Ended up here with family as it was Dad's favourite pub when he was with us. Great fish and chips with a lovely atmosphere and service. And the HSD was good as well. A shame that dogs are no longer allowed in the front bar (but as it's so small it's understandable) but they are allowed in the back. Mind you, didn't bring mine so that wasn't a problem. I will be going again.

We dined here in September. Expecting a well placed table as we had booked well in advance we were, however, seated in the back room which lacked atmosphere and we were right next to the toilets. The waitress, who was also serving behind the bar, was as miserable as sin. Aside from that the roast dinner was okay but was nothing special and was slow coming out. Didn’t leave a tip and didn’t go back.

We arrived early and got a seat in the lovely traditional style bar, ordered our drinks and lunch. We’d been sitting there for about 10 minutes when we were told we could sit in the front bar and were taken into the uninspiring back room, called The Smugglers Bar. I really wish I’d cancelled my order and walked out there and then, but as we’d ordered and our food would be almost ready we decided to stay. The room was gloomy, cold and devoid of atmosphere. I asked the person serving if there had been a problem with dogs in the bar, she stated that there hadn’t.The Fountain Inn used to be my favourite Cornish pub but I will never be eating in ‘The Smugglers Bar’ again.

We used to be able to be in the main front bar with our small very well behaved dog. We had been coming for many years every time we holiday in the area… not going forward now. Since a manager has decided that dog owners are only allowed in the back bar ( which is a family room & not as atmospheric in my POV) & you need to walk through the front bar to get to the back bar…. We have decided as a family, as this pub is not that dog friendly, we will not visit again… unless things change. Good place to visit, if you don’t like dogs. We went to The Ship instead where dogs can go anywhere.

Nice little pub to visit on a rainy day. I chose the beef roast for dinner. Good table top service only 30 minute wait for food. Beef was cold, roast potatoes were hard and dry. Soggy yorkshire pudding. Other wise OK place but won't come back.

We had an amazing time staying at the site. The host and the hospitality was exceptional. Tracy was ever so friendly and made us feel absolutely comfortable. She even upgraded us to a larger room. The site had a wonderful atmosphere even the locals used to come and play music there quite regularly I believe. We had breakfast there, which was very good. Absolutely could not add any more superlatives. Very grateful for Stacey for making our stay comfortable

Came for a drink on a day visit. Very overpriced (£5.50 for pint of Coke), cold atmosphere and staff behind the bar very rude to us and other guests- to the point we walked out rather than ordering anything else or asking for a table for lunch. Shame, as has potential to be lovely, but would not come back.

The pork chop is large and nice with a generous size of salad which suits me much. Maybe this is the signature dish of the pub. Maybe it is a busy section at the pub, there is a slight problem with the order of food delivery by the servers and cutlery missing, but everything is sorted at the end. The onion ring and the seasonal vegetables are ok.except the long branch broccoli long beans,I'm not a fan of peas. Not too much selection on keto friendly side dishes available, that's the improvement part needs to be addressed.

Do not go here if you are disabled and/ or have a dog. People with dogs are confined to a very uninspiring back bar. My husband uses a wheelchair and we have a very small dog. Staff waited until we were settled in the first bar, which had involved me moving several stools to accommodate the wheelchair, before telling us that we had to move to the back/ dog bar! Very unkind in my view and if the weather had not been so bad we would have left.

Whilst the food was good and reasonably priced, the drinks were extortionate at £11 for 2 pints of diet coke. We had a dog so was sent to the back bar in which there were several oversized tables for the space. It was quite dark and chilly and we had to direct a few people to the toilets as the door wasn't obvious. Our food took quite a while, which in itself isn't too much of a biggy but some communication would have been helpful, particularly as the bar was left unstaffed for quite a long time on numerous occasions and we began to wonder if the kitchen was still operating. Signs indicating where the dog friendly tables were located (we settled in the front bar then was told to move after we'd got our drinks) and smaller tables in the back bar would provide more room. We wouldn't recommend based purely on the lack of communication when the food was delayed and mainly due to the drinks cost. A disappointing visit.

We have been coming to the Fountain Inn for 49+ yrs, we always look forward to the famous fish and chips. When we arrived this spring bank, what a massive disappointment, fish and chips not as good anymore, I thought that my fish was anorexic. No dogs are allowed in the bar area !!!! you get put in the smugglers bar at the back, some of the staff look like they have been sucking on lemons, facial expressions tell you that you are not welcome, there's is no atmosphere. What a massive disappointment, you will be best going to the Shark's Fin, they welcome you + great staff. Will not be going back to the Fountain.

A great little pub, full of atmosphere and the locals seem to congregate here. Very friendly welcome indeed! The downside? The prices are a bit steep. It was £16.45 for a pint of lager and a mini bottle of Prosecco!! On a previous visit was around £6.50 a pint so I’m guessing the mini bottle was around £10 which is just outrageous. It put us off staying longer which is a shame as it was a gem of a place with great people.

Well what a complete let down this pub use to be our favourite place to go when we came down for holiday. 12th May and on Monday when we came in Monday evening 13th we came in With our dogs nothing was said but the following Monday 20th I ordered the drinks and sat down only to be told in an nasty way the two small dogs were not welcome in the bar. So two things if that was the case why didn’t someone say on the 13th to me it seems like a couple of regulars seemed a big influence and latterly I don’t think It’s good practice to not allow dogs 🤔 shame love Mevagissy and the fountain.

We have always loved the atmosphere in The Fountain but we were extremely disappointed to discover that dogs are no longer allowed in the bar. The Smugglers Bar has no atmosphere so we will not be visiting again. If the issue is food then this is ironic because the Smugglers is totally set up for food and does not resemble a bar. If children are the issue, I have never agreed with children being allowed into bars. They are for adults.

Dogs were no longer allowed in the bar area. We sat in the back room on our own. We ordered food, which was such a disappointment. I had ham egg and chips, chips were all dried out. One of my eggs was hard. Ham was poor quality. My husband had fish & and chips, which again was very disappointing. It wasn't cheap either. The atmosphere was dull. I've been to the Fountain a couple of times over the years when I've been down in Cornwall on holiday. It really is a lovely quintessential fishing village pub with low beams (beware!) and a decent selection of St Austell Ales. We ate for the first on our last visit, and although the prices are not cheap (not expensive either but about the same as I'd pay back in Surrey), the portions are enormous! Between us we had homemade lasagne (x2), a burger, and I had Fowey mussels and chips. Everyone was very happy with their meals. The landlady was very cheerful, helpful and relaxed, especially considering how busy it was when we there. I look forward to another pint of Mena Dhu next time I'm down 😊
