The meals were really overpriced and disappointing, service staff were very friendly and we didn't want to complain, but a couple of the meals were pretty awful to be honest, and the rest of them barely passable for £16 odd quid each. A lentil and mushroom stew for £18 that was barely a starter size; a child's pasta for £9 that was eaten in 3 mouthfuls. All round, really delighted with kelling heath facilities, and the woodland lodge is fabulous, but the restaurant really needs an overhaul. As others have said, a captive audience shouldn't justify such overpriced poor choices

Excellent meal on Tuesday evening. The waiting staff (Lyndsey and Kayleigh) were so attentive and professional and the meal was delicious. Beautifully presented and very tasty. Our first time there and we will certainly be back.

They try hard here, and we holiday @ KH twice per year. We love the place, and always keep the last night as our "eating out" night. We had the smoked mackeral + couscous salad + grilled fish and chips peas etc (gluten free). The place is a little "tired" now, but the food was ok. There are limited options if you like variety, but lets be honest, this is a family place not TDH.... :-) Please add morte "non chip" options and more grilled options perhaps ? Thanks

Very obstructive staff 'have you booked?' Lots of shuffling of paperwork, finally got an immediate table. During our time at table hardly anyone came in, lots if empty tables! Seems staff are only employed for bookings to minimise hours/ pay. We remember this being very accomodating and friendly. No more sadly.

To be honest, I’d set an expectation so I wouldn’t be disappointed, and not surprisingly I was right. To summarise, Staff were very friendly and helpful. That was a plus. Menu, limited and basic, with in my view limited choice. Food was average at best and definitely overpriced for quality, but I guess that’s because they have a captive audience. With the potential of that “captive audience”, they could really up their game in terms of choice and quality. I appreciate we all have differing views in what’s good, but for me it’s not a place I’d be enthusiastic about returning to - shame…

Was staying on the site for a week and gave this place a visit on 20th June 2023. The menu wasnt that good for us but we did find something each that we liked. I had cod and chips but found the batter too crispy, the wife enjoyed her Hunters chicken . The day before we had dinner at the Ship Inn which was a lot better than this place. Service was ok, but didnt like to hear the waitress moaning about the tip amount that had been left on the next table. We only visited once going elsewhere other days

Maybe because it Was out of the busy period but a very disappointing and expensive visit! Had 2 starters, 1 Childs meal ( very poor quality) 2 burgers and 1 beer, 2 small soft drinks and bill was over £67.00 Service was slow when only 3 other tables in and 3 staff members. When expressed disappointment in food it was shrugged off by staff. Been told by others pop up street food available outside in the summer so shall do that instead !

I was a little dubious about eating here after reading reviews but we decided to give it a try with a baby and a toddler with a severe dairy allergy in tow. We turned up without a booking (it is advisable to book - we didn’t know this). The staff were very welcoming and were able to fit us in. Our waitress, Amanda, was reasonably confident to tell me s which meals were safe for our son but went to check with the chef. Service was quick and the food was lovely. The only negative was the price of the wine!

Firstly I want to say this review in no way reflects on the two female members of staff who served us over the bar...drink service was friendly and fine. We decided to come and have lunch here as we have been visiting and staying at Kelling Heath since we were small children, 50 plus years, and we really do love it here. Sadly we won't be eating here again, and didn't actually get to eat this time. The one vegetarian option that we decided to make do with was unavailable (had been out of stock for days apparently, and it was only a veggie burger?) No alternative was offered so we suggested maybe we could have the ploughman's but substitute the meat for a portion of chips instead. The server had to go and have a long winded discussion with the "chef" who loudly made it clear he wasn't happy and it wouldn't be a "full" portion....very petty and mean spirited as it was the restaurants stock issue that was the problem we had to beg to be fed! As we were also sitting on the terrace because we had our dogs and it was a hot day, we were given a buzzer to come and collect our meals which took about half an hour for a mostly cold dish, which is fine I suppose until you see staff sitting on same terrace on their lunch break having their meals brought out to them, incidentally on proper plates with cutlery....if you are a paying customer at the Forge your full price meal comes in a takeaway bag which is pretty shocking. What was more shocking though was the big slabs of meat thrown all over our meals when we opened the cardboard boxes. I thought the days of treating people with special dietary requirements like second class citizens were over a long time ago but not at The Forge apparently. We wondered why the tables were all empty on such a glorious day but we certainly learned why! Got a refund and went to a great pub on the coast where we had fantastic food for the same price....on plates!

I certainly know that covid has had a MASSIVE impact......however, I really do think that the Forge n Terrace really need to STOP being so greedy on their wine sales...... £19.50 for two large glasses of wine (I nearly felt like Del Boy and fell through the bar hatch).......no wonder the bar man said "it's cheaper to buy the bottle" .......I'm certainly no tight arse, but please..........don't take the p@@@@@@@

After visiting Kelling heath for the past 30 years, decided to buy a caravan here earlier this year...COVID-19 has killed this and the staff don’t know their elbows from their backsides quite frankly! We visited last week and had a meal in the restaurant, there were 8 of us in total. Food was fine no complAints. At 9:30 another owner was complaining at the bar about where their food was, they’d had a 3 hour drive up there and they’d ordered food at 8:30.They were told that the chef had gone home and their order had been swiped off the board! The poor woman was crying! We visited again this evening at 5pm to be told that we weren’t allowed no more than 6 of us in a group. We had 7, 4 adults 3 kids! And that no 2 families could mix!We went into the pizza place next and sat down all 7 of us to be joined on the Next table by a group of 9!!! Eeeer confused...After our pizzas We went to look in the bar to see if there were any spaces for a drink, again told no more than 6 and no 2 families to mix... very confused! My husband went to speak to the manager in customer services and my husband was then told that due to new government rulings that yes no more than 6 and no 2 families... The manager was then off to Every caravan, night jar, tent to tell guests that if they’re more than a 2 family party that one party would need to leave or rent a separate caravan! This is just outrageous, we looked on the news and there is 0 mention of this and WHY after being checked at the COVID-19 check point, why weren’t we told this!!!!I’ll be putting in a formal complaint and contacting trading standards.

We have eaten here before, there are actually two restaurants. We ate in the Forge as there was an evening carvery in the Terrace. Although the menu is rather limited we were pleased with our choices; the burger was excellent and the chicken with gnocci was delicious and the staff were friendly and helpful. The Forge is the smaller of the two restaurants which gives it a more intimate and quieter atmosphere. i would recommend booking a table at busy times.

We were looking forward to the meal here today , as came last year and was most enjoyable , but has gone downhill I’m afraid .Went for meal in quite a large group , to which we had booked .we tried to get soft drinks which they had run out of , so not much choice . Nothing nice about the table just some wine glasses put at one end . We had to collect cutlery and serviettes. We collected our roast dinner which was average , then we managed to get a sweet menu, but only 3 things were available of the menu . It was getting on for an hour before the sweets were brought to the table , from when they were ordered.!!!!By that time the coffees had been drank . We did complain and asked to see the manager , he wouldn’t come and talk to us ,sent the barmaid who was quite obnoxious , obviously not trained to deal with the general public . Will not be recommending this place to any of our friends sadly .

Myself and the family I was staying with was very very excited to go and eat at the square and decided to get a bite of pizza for tea! To be completely disappointed. We ordered our food and sat down. We waited around 20 minutes for a milkshake. We went up to ask about it and was told the flavour we wanted they didn’t have. Forcing us to only have the salted caramel. To our left a family had just received their food and opened their box to only see that it was HALF there! Which was pathetic. I was sharing with someone, and so was my other 2 friends. When we received our food it was cut asymmetrically making one person have MUCH less to eat compared to the other. Not to mention the sizes were smaller than stated and also they forgot to mention how burnt it would be. We also ordered garlic bread which we saw being handled with NO gloves and a pathetically cold portion of chips. Honestly the only good thing about this place was the plug sockets I was actually allowed to use to charge my phone! Would NOT recommend this place!

Ordered the fish and chips and it was advertised as being cod but tasted like haddock. The batter was also quite greasy. We also found out that the fish was not fresh, it was frozen. Most of the chips were burnt also. £12 paid for this horrible meal and it wasn’t taken off the final bill. The only good thing was the free ice cream dessert they gave me. £5 for 3 scoops of ice cream though I’m glad I didn’t pay for it. Very disappointed as we are first time guests and was looking forward to a nice evening meal. Will find other places to eat off site going forwards.

This is our second year as residents at Kelling Heath and the food quality has gone downhill fast. When we had our first lunchtime meals at the end of 2017 we were impressed by the variety on the menu and the quality and we had several more acceptable meals last year. We went for lunch this year and found that the lunchtime menu had been reduced compared with the evening menu. As we can no longer eat a big meal at night and now have our main meal at lunchtime we found this to be a problem. The food on offer was limited and average. We asked for the dessert menu

Been going here for more than 10 years. Recently they have been changing their restaurant arrangements quite significantly. All for the worst. The Terrace is now buffet only, and it is a very poor buffet too. The Forge now has a very limited menu and frankly not very appetising either. As locals we have visited Kelling Heath several times for a Sunday carvery and have always been very impressed by it. Yesterday we arrived at 11.50am (lunch is available 12 noon until 3pm) and were greeted at the desk by a young lady who, judging by the look on her face, clearly had other places she would rather have been on a Sunday. She was quite rude and unwelcoming. She took us to our table (you don't get a choice of where you would like to sit) and told us to go to the bar and collect our carvery tickets in our own time. My Husband went up to the bar just after 12 noon, collected our tickets and bought our drinks. Last time we had visited was September 2018 (five months previous) so we were shocked to learn that the price for a carvery had increased from £10pp to £13pp. Quite a hefty increase. We sat sipping our drinks and the Manageress of the establishment went over to the carvery area and, in quite a raised voice, pointed out to the two chefs that customers were now in and asked them why they were not ready to serve. She then gave them a telling off for having no decoration at the front of the food. Quite embarrassing for them when customers were within earshot and perhaps a conversation that could have taken place behind a closed door. We went to collect our food, my Husband first. He had turkey and I had beef. The chef put the turkey on my Husband's plate and told him to help himself to everything else. He then began carving my beef. After a few moments he looked at my Husband and said "Sir, you can help yourself to whatever you like" to which my Husband replied "Well I'd love to but unfortunately there are no utensils with which to serve". Clearly embarrassed and becoming flustered the chef finished serving my beef and then frantically rummaged in some boxes/drawers the other side of the counter for some utensils. After what seemed like an eternity, and with our meat becoming colder by the second, he resurfaced with some serving spoons. As I went to move along the line he called me back - as he had noticed that he had left a piece of string in my beef, which he promptly removed! We returned to our table to eat and noticed that several customers were now present and we were not happy to note that everybody had been sandwiched into one corner of the restaurant which, we can only assume, is to make the cleaning process easier for the staff at the end of the day. Not nice for the customers though. The food, well, my Husband's turkey had a lot of thick skin on it which he had to sit and remove, the carrots were overcooked and the gravy was so thin it was like tap water. Certainly not worth the £3 increase per head. As my Husband said after we had left, if it's this poor in February when there were only 10 - 12 customers present, what on earth will the standard be like when they are inundated with holidaymakers in a couple of months' time! Sorry Kelling Heath but you have gone downhill rapidly, both customer service and food. We are sorry to say that we will not be eating with you again and even sorrier to say that unless you up your game drastically you can expect a lot of complaints this coming season. Very disappointing indeed. There are some fantastic eating establishments in North Norfolk (The Ship at Weybourne is just a 15 minute walk from Kelling Heath and the food is to die for) and we would strongly suggest eating off the camp site rather than waste your money.

The worse thing was they made my 3 year old buy a token for lunch which is utter madness. Its the only carvery ive ever been too that has this rule, all the others allow you to take a plate for your child and then when you get to your table you just all give some of your food to the toddler. When my children are 4 I am happy to pay for them, but 1-3 year olds don't eat enough to warrant paying and every other establishment realises this but not here. Very poor show

We shouldn't really have come, I knew what it would be like but drifted in to it! Mostly families with kids. It was very busy as expected on a B/H Monday.Hubby liked his scampi. My giant yorkshire pud with bangers and mash and heaps of veg could have been good. But the vegetables were virtually tasteless (though seemed to have been cooked OK) as was the yorkshire and the gravy. It was very basic pub food, so I was astonished at the £12.95 price tag for mine. There are other far superior places nearby where we would have paid no more, and where I would rather have been.We would have done better eating something from the market stalls on a bench in the sun, so my fault! However, their great staff kept everything moving along, they were friendly and helpful and working their socks off.

Had a couple of meals in here recently and in all honesty the food wasn't too bad. Food was also quite good value and the carvery judging by the size of peoples plates was very good value at £9.95. Service was very friendly. Bar prices were not as expensive as some of the other places locally. If you want a reasonably priced meal, they are certainly not as expensive as some of the local pubs and restaurants. Whilst not a gourmet experience the visits were enjoyable.

Whilst the food was passable I'm afraid the service was not. Staff were undertrained and not up to scratch. Reservations hard to come by and waiting times excessive. A real shame as the holiday park is great but this let the side down terribly.

I was at Kelling Heath site with friends in one of their so called luxury homes - which was a caravan and was not luxurious at all. The pub serves good ale but the food was bland. I had a curry the first night and it was not very exciting; I forget now what it was exactly but there was hardly any spicey taste to it. Next night had fish and chips which was ok but nothing to get excited about. The desserts were good. If I were to visit this site again - which I have no intention of doing - I would use the pub for a drink but would eat elsewhere.

Stayed in a lodge on the Kelling Heath site so went to the pub a couple of times. I did have high expectations following pictures of food etc posted by them on Facebook etc, and the descriptions of 'locally sourced food', and 'seasonal menus'. However it was ok but average pub food. Both times many items were seriously overcooked to the point of being burnt (toad in the hole especially). I had the 'award winning' steak pie, but again it was dry and overdone...and small!Second time around I had the seabass, which in fairness looked great, and other than the seriously over salted mash was better than the other meals. The one exception that was outstanding was the lemon brûlée tart...which had it been served with fresh fruit would have been perfect. Soggy frozen ones spoilt the overall dish, but the tart itself was great. So overall an ok experience, clearly getting some bits right, but not quite making the grade. A shame because with a captive audience onsite they could be making a killing. A pretty much empty restaurant at 7pm in school holidays though tells a slightly different tale. Management would do well to look at the reviews on here and act on the feedback.

I can't really rate this place high enough. The food is amazing. The cost is not too bad either. The kids meals are great too. The salads are very generous and really nice.

Even though prices are steep you ultimately get reheated food with no local produce, seafood or fish.

After a walk over the stunning heath we enjoyed a meal in the restaurant. The food was good, locally sourced and freshly cooked. We had a starter of garlic ciabatta, I had plaice with new potatoes and vegetables, my husband had burger and fries. This was all delicious and we stayed for dessert, I had marmalade bread and butter pudding and my husband ordered apple crumble with cream. We enjoyed our meal, it wasn't cheap but I wouldn't describe it as overpriced either. If I was holidaying here I'd be happy to eat in the restaurant instead of driving several miles to eat elsewhere.

The Forge and Terrace is situated in the rather pleasant village centre complex of the Kelling Heath holiday park. As the village centre appeared rather charming, we decided that we would have a sit-down waiter-service dinner at the Forge and Terrace pub rather than driving to Weybourne or Sherringham to find a pub or restaurant. We wished that we had made the effort because The Forge and Terrace was a big disappointment. We noticed that the whole place had a rather greasy smell to it despite many of the windows being wide open. We ordered various drinks including fresh orange juice which was like no other fresh orange juice that I had ever tried - weird tasting with a highly diluted feel. The main meals were equally disappointing. I opted for fish and chips - a dish which couldn't have had a more cheaply-put-together feel. Bland battered fish, bland soggy chips and a bit of unappetising limp green stuff in the centre. At least the ketchup was OK. The worst part was that the price was about the same as you would pay for proper pub meal. My guess is that this place relies on the semi captive audience of the campers who don't want to drive to nearby villages. However, my advice would be to go elsewhere if you can. Having said this, our experience the Kelling Heath camp site generally was very positive - there is lots going on, the campsite is great, the village centre is lovely and the reception staff are well organised.

The food was fine, not amazing. Clearly prepared in advance and then reheated as it came out so fast. Starters arrived before our drinks! Nice setting, dog friendly and warm welcome.

Great cafe, one of the best we had been in on our 2 week holiday. Cake selection was enormous, coffee tasted great, toilets sparkling clean & friendly service. I can see why it's so popular, highly recommend!
