Stopped here on the spur of the moment on our journey. Made to feel welcome, dog too. Had small roast dinners, which were ample in size and enjoyable Apple crumble was especially nice and no quibble on wanting to share! If it were closer to home, would go again.

This pub was in an ideal spot for visiting Whitby with the bus stopping just outside the premises. The room was good and the staff all friendly and helpful. Sunday lunch was great and the pub was very busy for this. The pub itself wasn’t super busy outside meal times and the area is very quiet at night which suited us. Being able to visit Whitby itself without worrying about parking was a great bonus and for bus pass holders it was free to use the buses. I would highly recommend this establishment for a short break and maybe even a longer period if you want a quiet village to stay in.

I was firstly greeted by friendly staff - my drink order was taken after a few minutes of getting settled and at the same time the two young polite guys behind the bar brought the special's and a menu . The menu all sounded amazing and to be honest I struggled to decide as it all sounded so good . We started with our starters - king prawns in a green sauce “unfortunately I can’t remember the name of the sauce “ it was almost like a pesto basil sauce . Oh my goodness it was AMAZING. I was just gutted I was sharing it with my wife . As it was just sooo yummy . It was accompanied by garlic bread . - perfect Next I had sea bass in garlic butter with prawns , spinach on crushed new potatoes. Let me tell you … if I could pick 1 meal to eat for the rest of my life and never get bored it would be this ! It was absolutely beautiful. Full of flavour not over powering with garlic just the right amount ! It was perfect ! The sea bass had crispy skin . It just fell of my fork it was so fresh ! My wife had the burger which she said was very very nice . The bacon was nice and crispy and the chips …. Well The chips - these chips are the best homemade chips you will ever have ! Honestly they were to die for !!!! My daughter had fish and chips and the fish was so white , so fresh and it was the size of her arm it was huge ! Again accompanied by the best chips ever !!!! Deserts - by the point I was stuffed but I couldn’t leave without a desert after the meals being 5 stars I had the brownie and I asked for it with toffee sauce . This brownie was chewy it was soft it gives Betty Crocker a run for her money and that toffee sauce I could of drank it out of the jug . My daughter had same and said it was so yummy My wife had the meringue stack . Which looked so good . My wife said it was just the right amount after 2 courses . Nothing was to much trouble for the bar staff or any staff that was around . Even the couple sitting next to us who was staying there was lovely and friendly I’d give this meal at 100 out of 100 in stars ! Honestly I couldn’t fault a single thing . I most definitely will be back - thanks so much for having us and I truly can’t wait to return for more .

We called in as it is one of few places to eat out for dinner near Sleights. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. Service was also good despite them being quite busy. We arrived at around 6:30 and there were a couple of tables free. It did fill up but there were spaces by around 7:30 when the early birds had gone. We had duck breast which I asked for - and came, pink, sea bass, sausage and mash and the Cajun chicken/halloumi burger. All were well cooked as were the vegetables although the burger was a bit dry. Prices were reasonable. We only found the place on our last night and wished we had found it earlier. Only downside could be that it’s a little small if you have a party of over 4. Would not hesitate to recommend if you are in the area

We found this beautiful pub after staying on holiday in Sleight’s for a week. Cannot fault the food, staff so welcoming. Our first meal was on the Sunday evening we were greeted by a very pleasant young man & informed us what roast choice of meat they had left. When our roast beef arrived plent of it & absolutely delicious plenty of vegetables Yorkshire pudding & roast potatoes all piping hot 😋😋. Dessert well we were spoilt for choice but had the boozey bread & butter pudding & lemon cheesecake all home made 😋. We couldn’t find fault with anything so we booked to dine again on the Wednesday night before we left on Thursday 😊. Once again greeted by 2 pleasant young men good choice of menu & specials board. Had the steak & mushroom pie, gammon eggs & chips. All served with plenty of vegetables or salad & was hot & cooked to perfection. Dessert choice again spoilt for but had the sticky toffee pudding & chocolate brownie all homemade. Shame we came home. Will be back again when in the area. Cannot find fault with this pub & meal’s definitely recommend to anyone!!!! Delicious 😋

We've had to give one star as the review doesn't allow for no stars! We were visiting the area and had booked for dinner. We were greeted by two very young lads, we were not shown our table and just asked what we wanted to drink. Our table was pointed to and menus were given to us. A choice of chicken and leek pie, and roast duck was made. The pastry on the pie was undercooked, the duck skin was not crisp and the breast itself was rubbery like it has been cooked in a water bath. When asked about our food we explained it wasn't great, we were asked if we wanted it sorting, not we'll rectify that for you. When we had finished, we were asked if everything was ok with the food and we said it wasn't the best we'd had. When we'd ordered the food the place wasn't busy at all. We were left 30 minutes without any further interaction, even when we tried to make eye contact there was nothing, and when I said "could I have ..." one of the lads brought the bill over. I hadn't asked for the bill, we weren't even offered the dessert menu. I suggested that the owner/landlord be asked to come to our table. The man who appeared seemed slightly agitated and when I suggested he may like to pull up a chair I was told "I'm too busy cooking, what's up". I explained what had happened, he asked whether we'd been approached again after our initial conversation and I explained no. The attitude of the, I assume Manager, was he couldn't care less. There was no apology, he stormed off loudly telling the young lads that we wouldn't be paying. When we left it was like the tumble week moment and we were left in total disbelief at the experience and conversation we'd had. Customer service is certainly lacking along with the basic understanding of how to address a customer concern. It's such a shame as the place is in a beautiful area, could be really fantastic, but not one we'll return to

Characterful comfortable pub with great home made menu , real fire and ambience for visitors. Bus stop near for Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay. Walked from pub to Whitby and lots of walks in area. Bus back was easy . Pub breakfast good with home made options such as omelettes and different eggs with smoked salmon and with delicious bread toasted. Usual full English available. We took our own non dairy milk as none available. To be fair we did not ask in advance for non dairy milk. The veg and coconut curry was home made and delicious with pepper, squash and parsnip. The most delicious veg curry I have ever had and I have had many ! Quiet at night and no street lights so great sleep ! Highly recommend if you want to walk, visit Whitby etc but not stay there and have a quiet escape !

We recently visited here, and decided to try something different. I got the chicken pie, which was so creamy, it was amazing. The beef dripping chips which came with it were great too. We came to the pub looking forward to a nice meal ….. I ordered a vegetable and coconut curry which arrived a plate of boiled potatoes in a chip shop curry sauce. No other vegetables or coconut in sight. A very flat and dry, clearly shop bought nan bread was on the side screaming for some hydration. The chicken pie was swimming in cream with no seasoning. There was no need for a pudding after eating something so creamy! Beef dripping chips so no vegetarian option on the side of the curry… was a bit of a blessing after battling the amount of potato in the curry. £8 for a no frills gin and tonic makes you assume your in London, not a village of 200 people. Two lads on the bar were friendly helpful.

Took 45 minutes to be served a preordered sunday dinner - 6pm on Sunday evening. When the meal arrived the portions of veg were inadequate and obviously had been cooked very much earlier in the day, the single roast potatoe was missing on one of the meals. The mash was watery and the Yorkshire pudding were flat ( honestly a yorkshire pub that can't get that right is a disgrace ). The roast potatoes that we did get were cold and soft. I wouldn't advise this pub.

Stayed in Aislaby for the weekend local to Whitby, popped into The Forge on the off chance we could eat, they were fully booked but couldn't have been more helpful in getting us a table sorted when other diners had finished.

Sundays are not complete without a visit here for their delicious Sunday roasts. There is a range of roast, lamb, beef or pork or if like me you can't decide, they will kindly give you a selection of the three. Lovely selection of fresh veg, turnip, carrot, spring cabbage and cauliflower cheese.

My husband and I arrived in Yorkshire for a weeks holiday on Friday and staying in Goathland. Our B&B; recommenced we try the Forge, so we booked a table as it was a Saturday night, so glad we did as it was busy. We met a lovely on holiday who were eating on the next table to us and staying at the local camp site with their elderly parents.

My parents frequent the Forge on a regular basis and invited us to join them for a meal. The pub is delightfully decorated and is owned/managed by very friendly family. The food is fantastic, all freshly prepared and served by friendly staff. Highly recommended..

My partner, our two dogs and myself, stopped at The Forge for an evening meal, after spending an excellent day walking around the local area. The staff were very welcoming, as were the locals, our dogs were given some treats, and settled under our table. We shared a prawn starter (pint of king prawns - in their shell), which was more than enough for two of us, and fresh prawns, very tasty. I had beef stroganof, rice and a side of chips, my partner had pie and veg. The food came in good time, and was freshly cooked, really enjoyable.

a warm and friendly country pub offering a decent array of menu options and a ‘can-do’ attitude. The staff and their accommodating nature the highlight, dinner was also a hit for this hungry family of 4. Well worth the trip and our favourite of local pubs when staying in nearby Sleights.

My wife uses a walker. We had never been to the Deli before so were unsure how to proceed. The staff completely ignored us. It was as if we were not there, or invisible. Even as we walked out of the Deli, no staff member offered any acknowledgement of us!

Gorgeous place to come to and is always on our list as a ' must go to'when we are in Filey. Beautiful setting and everything here is really delicious. The lemon meringue tart and coffee cake are to die for. It's lovely sitting outside and enjoying the sunshine. Sadly it was raining today and as we have a dog we couldn't go in, there was some seating under a canopy for the ice creams but sadly for us just a bit too chilly to sit out. It is cash only so that is something to always remember when visiting.

Great cakes and bread to eat in or take away. Dogs are allowed inside. We had a good lunch. It was very busy, because the food is very good.

This pub/restaurant is under new ownership but the food and the drinks are still of exceptional quality. We visited at lunchtime (midweek), we had reserved our table in advance (this is advisable) and we were met with a very warm welcome. The menu has changed but still offers a good selection. The quality of the food was very good and the presentation appealing. Always a must when we visit this area. Good luck going forward, this place remains a firm favourite with us

Amazing evening seafood meal. Fabulous service from Johan and wonderful little tasters including a really tasty broccoli soup appetiser. Cannot recommend the food and service enough. Tx
