The Forest Arms in Carmarthenshire

What an absolutely fabulous gem in the heart of the South West Wales! We visited here for a lunch with friends and family on a Thursday lunchtime. The decor is stylish and I wanted to leave with many pieces of furniture! The place was immaculate, lovely and warm and so was the welcome. Service was superb and the food was extremely tasty, fresh and a very wide variety on the menu with a mix of those dishes which would appeal to all with those which made a nod to the surroundings. Could not fault this place at all. Will absolutely come back. We came from Llandeilo and it was definitely worth the trip! Thank you

We were visiting Carmarthen for the long weekend from London and booked to have dinner here. 4 adults, 2 children and a dog. Lovely decor, great friendly and welcoming staff. Food was outstanding! Chicken pate to start and roast beef for main. Had no room for dessert. Good choice and portion size for the children, and even a doggie roast dinner on the menu.

Newly refurbished and very nice. Varied menu, something to suit everyone. Good service. We had the Hunters Kitchen, good sized portion and an amazing lamb steak. Sticky toffee pudding and lemon cheesecake to finish. All very much appreciated following a very wet walk in the forest.

A lovely welcome from the new landlady, we were so pleased to be back after nearly three years. The service from the waiting staff who are all youngsters was outstanding well done all. Our Sunday lunch was off the scale, we both had beef which just melted in the mouth, gravy just like Grandma used to make and plenty of it, there was cabbage, carrots, swede, mashed potatoes, amazing Yorkshire pudding and the most inviting roast potatoes and parsnips and without asking horseradish sauce ready for us! Desserts were spot on and I at last had my Eton Mess really missed that! We will be back very soon. Thank you so much for the welcome.

We were booked for Sunday lunch, based on reviews. A table of 4 adults and none of us were disappointed with anything. We had 3 meat roasts and a vegetarian option. We were served vegetables to share. There was more than enough. The food was was well cooked, fresh and hot. The service was excellent too, thank you Evan. The deserts were also very tempting, 10/10 for the lemon cheesecake. I would like to return next time I'm in the area.

The best steaks we have ever tasted, served with chips, mushrooms, peas and onion rings, absolutely delicious. Lovely old pub in an idyllic setting. Dog friendly too. The owners also allowed us to stay in our Motorhome in the car park overnight. Fantastic walks nearby alongside the river and up through the forest, world class cycling tracks, looked excellent fun.

We had a lovely evening, the waiter was so attentive and the food was superb! We will definitely return!

Disappointing visit. Went for bit of celebration dinner (end of holiday). Really wish we’d gone elsewhere. Met with a rude welcome by the chef. There was no reason for her to treat paying customers this way. Serving staff clearly embarrassed (bless them) but it had already ruined our evening. We were the only ones in there so atmosphere was dead (7pm in evening). So we really noticed the awful cheesy pop music playing. Pity, nice looking pub. Food average.

We’ve visited the Forest Arms a number of times and always look forward to returning. The food is always superb, home cooked and reasonably priced. We’ve had meals from both the main menu and Sunday lunch, which we’ve thoroughly enjoyed. Relaxed setting and welcoming owners, highly recommended.

Visited for the first time and wonder how it has taken so long to do so….as we live less than 20 minutes drive away. A mid week meal with friends, was a great experience from start to finish. Relaxed and very welcoming throughout, the food was fantastic (we all had the pork belly off the special) and the portions generous, finished with a selection of the homemade desserts. Needless to say the second visit will not take as long to happen as the first did!

An honest and very special place to eat and enjoy the stunning locality full of forest walks and lovely views. Meals are home cooked, steaming hot, tasty and excellent value for money The Forest Arms is a lush and very old building that is well maintained, clean and historically significant Staff are informal but attentive and just lovely people We will be back!

We had a garlic bread to share which was the start of a lovely meal. Between us we had the gammon with egg and a 12oz steak. Both were cooked to perfection. Atmosphere was great and a real friendly visitor-riendly vibe was immediately apparent.

George and the team are amazing hosts. The food and hospitality is superb. We had dinner on Friday night (most of us had a selection of burgers) - personally recommend the Hunters (Chicken burger). Super tasty - make sure you're hungry as they are big! And followed with Sunday lunch. Again - SO much food. Plenty of sides. You will not leave hungry. Thanks for spoiling us George and team. We will be back soon.

A very pleasant dining experience here. Perhaps the ambience could be considered a little void of atmosphere, a little low volume background music may assist but more importantly the food was lovely and very reasonably priced . Also the service is first class. Will visit again.

This place was recommended by our hosts Claire and Andrea and Winllan Farm. They said the food was brilliant with good portions... and they were certainly not wrong there!!They were able to accept a last minute dog-friendly booking. We were greeted by a warm and friendly member of staff who showed us to our table and got us drinks swiftly. As it was Sunday lunchtime they have a classic Sunday lunchtime menu. We both opted for beef and it was delishious melt in the mouth beef with plenty of flavour. The best thing though, was that they did not scrimp on the gravy, we had a while boat-full between 2 of us, and since we are gravy lovers that made our visit!!When we were finished the member of staff gave us some walking route recommendations which was very helpful. She said her favourite was the Keepers Walk... and we can see why...Next time we visit we will try to come on a different day, the main menu also looks wonderful and if anything on there is half as good as our Sunday lunch it is sure to hit the spot. We have been waiting to return to The Forest Arms ever since our driving club had a wonderful Xmas meal at the pub. We have now been back twice for Sunday lunch, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Gentle atmosphere, welcoming host and great food. If you must have Sunday lunch away from home, this is the place. We will be back.

We visited yesterday as a table of 6 to make he most of the eat out to help out scheme. Hands down the best food and service we've all had in a very long time. All the staff were so helpful and friendly and made it a really enjoyable afternoon.Even at full price the food was amazing value and every meal looked and tasted delicious. I visited with the family for my partners birthday. The food and quality of food was great. Unfortunately we were the last customers and I think they had to keep the kitchen open a bit longer. The waiting staff made us feel uncomfortable, they looked just generally annoyed to serve. As a customer you can't pay good money and be left with an experience that just upset me. I dropped the hint I said it was my partners birthday. A smile does not cost and don,t make the customer feel uncomfortable no excuse, or simply say you want to shut the kitchen and are not serving. Shame.

George and Louise went above and beyond with their service tonight. The weather looked iffy but we were still able to eat our delicious burger and stuffed chicken breast in the garden of this lovely pub. Hard times for all but a brilliant pub with dedicated staff makes all the difference- thank you guys

Recently had the pleasure of having two takeaways during the recent lockdown, and very very impressed. The pizza was home-made, with the fresh and delicious toppings and the Sunday Lunch we collected included a large portion, all fresh and cooked to order / collect, with really fair and reasonable pricing for all options that they had avaialble.Staff were pleasant and friendly, upon collection on both occasions, and followed the social distancing guidelines at all times.

Had a delicious takeaway Sunday lunch from The Forest Arms, also had a takeaway curry the night before which was also delicious. George and Louise have been great to us locals as has Emma in the kitchen cooking. In these tough economic times because of the virus it’s nice to give them the support.Nige

My wife, son &amp; I had a meal in this place last summer. We were in no way demanding/awkward customers &amp; just ordered a main course in the bar. The food was delicious but the landlord was just plain rude to us &amp; very unwelcoming. While eating our meal, we also witnessed him being rude to other potential customers who came in off the road looking for a meal. We won't be back unless the owner learns how to be civil &amp; polite to his customers.

Took some friends here on my recent visit to Wales and they recommended this pub. They wasn't wrong, nice atmosphere, friendly staff, great food. We all had different meals and all was brilliant. Will use again when in the area. Many thanks for a great night.

Only 20 minutes from Carmarthen this pub is a comfortable hostelry that offers a warm welcome from the landlord and excellent pub food at realistic prices.. For a winters lunchtime there were a few couples there, and the food being served was inviting to look at.A good range of pub favourites on the menu made our choices easier. The food was well cooked and was delicious.Good service, a welcome from mine host and great food. Well worth a visit.

This is a lovely pub and has great reviews but we did not enjoy our steak. The portions are big. Perhaps a little too big as we hardly ate the skin on chips and 1/4lb peas!! It would have been better with home cooked chips instead of frozen. The steak was very grisly and covers in some sort of seasoning which completely masked the taste of the steak. Sorry but we did not enjoy the meal at all.

We had a lovely Sunday lunch and the food arrived quickly, but unfortunately this was spoilt by an unfriendly atmosphere. We were made to feel very unwelcome and more than one member of staff was passive aggressive and rude. I have never written a negative review before but we left feeling really quite upset.

I visited here for dinner whilst staying at Ty Mawr. The pub is on the main road a few minutes walk away and has loads of space. It was a lovely atmosphere with pleasant staff and a varied menu. The food arrived quickly, was a good sized portion and was delicious. All in all a pleasant evening.

Our 4th visit to Brechfa and each time we cannot afford to miss the Forest Arms, their food is outstanding, there's not many places you can find homemade food and this is one of them. We have to keep returning so that we can work our way through the amazing menu. The food coupled with the warm welcome and outstanding service will struggle to be matched, if you haven't been then you have no idea what you are missing

Had a meal here on a Sunday evening , it was quite and the staff were very friendly and helpful as we weren't from the area. The food was yummy and lovely big portions. Would highly recommend.

Visited the Forest Arms as a group of 47 local Young Farmers Club members for our Christmas Party. The size of the group was no problem for George and his staff as we had pre-ordered our meals. We received a very warm welcome, the food was excellent and the portions were generous. The Forest Arms has a very relaxing atmosphere and we all enjoyed our evening socialising and having fun.

Myself and my partner visited on Saturday for a drink on the way back to our holiday cottage. Amazing atmosphere, super friendly staff and overall great setting sat by the log burner. So good in fact we returned later for an evening meal. Although fully booked at this point, we were squeezed in and appreciated the effort to accommodate us. George and Louise are wonderful owners and really looked after their guests. Equally the food was excellent. We have friends visiting the area next weekend who we have urged to book in! We shall definitely be returning!

This pub is always my 'Go to' when I go out for a meal! The service is always A** and the food is always cooked to the highest standard! I love the pub, love the decor and the location! There is nothing to dislike about it. The menu caters for all types and the puddings are outstanding!! They certainly know how to cook a steak properly, it was cooked to perfection and afterwards I had a Baileys cheesecake on my last visit and it was the best Baileys cheesecake I had ever tasted! Nice non-Christmas meal! I had the Chilli con carne, two of the others had the lamb steaks and my brother had a burger. I think the burger looked the best, with a lovely salad. My chilli could have been spicier. The pub was very nice - warm friendly and inviting.

Came here for a late lunch after Byrgwm walk at Brechfa. Delighted to discover they are open and serving food all day on Saturdays. The bar was welcoming, warm and cosy. Staff friendly. We had delicious burgers and we’re looking forward to the Sunday roast next time.

Although seemingly 'out of the way' being some 6 miles from Nantgaredig on the B4310 'The Forest Arms', Brechfa is a superb place to spend an evening with friends over a meal! The menu was most impressive and the food of a high standard at a reasonable price. Staff were extremely polite and helpful too. An enjoyable venue well worth a visit!

My parents ate here over a year ago, they enjoyed so much they bought me a gift voucher. Pub was quiet, but that was expected as this was mid week lunch time. I had 12 ounce rump steak which was cooked perfectly and my wife had chicken with cheese and bacon with no complaints!

We detoured to stop here for lunch on our way to St David’s under the impression it was close to central Carmarthen. It’s not, but it was very worthwhile nonetheless - we’d happily do it again.

We were staying in self catering accommodation a couple of miles down the road and fancied a night off so went here for dinner on a Tuesday evening. The welcome was warm & friendly and we quickly felt right at home. I ordered the shortcrust steak & ale pie with new potatoes & veg and my partner ordered the veggie curry.

We ate at the Forest Arms on the Sat and Sun eve of the recent bank holiday weekend. Our B&B; was literally a stone’s throw away. We knew as soon as we walked through the door we were going to love this place. We were immediately welcomed by the lady behind the bar and the locals sat having a drink. There were white fairy lights adorning the beams in the bar creating a wonderful ambience, and a seating area with comfy sofas and an open fire for the winter months. Despite them being fully booked on the Saturday evening and the kitchen about to close, we were seated within 5 minutes and our orders taken. The food was fabulous, plentiful and cooked to perfection. The staff were friendly and took time out to chat. We didn’t hesitate to book for the following evening. Sunday evening they were fully booked and short staffed, but standards were still very high and the food delicious. The landlord and his wife were really friendly and welcoming, as were the staff and the locals - this is a place not to be missed and we can’t wait to go back.
