The Flyer in Chelmsford

My friend and I wanted scampi and chips and a hunters chicken. Scampi was unavailable so was the fish so we both had hunters chicken. Both very hungry so as soon as the food arrived we started to eat but as soon as we had placed the first bite into our mouths we were asked if everything was okay, we said yes because it really wasn't long enough for anything to register. We did eat all of our meals but the sizzle plates that the food was served on were stone cold and the food wasn't much warmer plus the chicken breast was very tough to cut and it was nothing like any hunters chicken that we have ever had. The warmest part of the meal was the chips and they went cold fast. Also not a very good choice of no alcohol beer or J20 . The J2O choice was apple and mango or orange and passionfruit. We wanted mango and passionfruit it was on the menu but not available for purchase. The staff member

I don’t usually leave reviews. It is what it is but I was out with my son who had been in hospital for mental illness for several months and not been socialising for over a year. We went for a lunchtime meal and a pint. I need to get him out and about socialising and mixing with people. Food was perfect for what we ordered. The bar person Trish was so perfect on the day. Maybe she could sense something? I don’t know but she was so attentive to us that I felt we were the only customers. Although there were many others, Trish is a great bar person and an amazing person. A great credit to The Flyer and Green King are lucky to have her. Will definitely be back.

The welcome was great we have never been here before we came for a meal and to watch football the staff were excellent as was the food and dessert it was a 30 min drive and was worth it

We came for a family meal. Staff were exceptional and welcoming. They decorated the tables for us at our request and nothing was too much trouble. Food was lovely, a very warm and friendly atmosphere. Couldn’t have asked for more. We will definitely be back :)

Great staff. The steak is amazing and they have a pool table and dart board. What more could you want for a boozer

I came to the Flyer on the 29th of March, had steak and chips. The steak was fantastic and the service was wonderful, I will be back many times in the future.

Friendly welcoming environment, helpful staff ,great food and cheap well worth the money, I had steak and ale pie it was large full of meat and lovely gravy creamy mashed potato and a good portion of peas, I had cheesecake for desert and it was divine, throughout the meal the staff ask us if everything was OK, and was there anything we wanted, after the meal they cleared our table, and when it was time to leave they said goodbye I hope you enjoyed your meal, we said, yes it was excellent the food and the service, from now on we will go there all the time you can't beat it, a great experience

Had a lovely lunch with my young son and girlfriend, staff were very attentive and fabulous with my son. Little man loved the claw machine and his chicken nuggets.

Went on a Thursday for the poker first time playing there must say I was welcome by all players the staff was amazing and the burgers was 10/10 great value definitely be back

Took the family down for a meal and we are big eaters ordered 2 steak fondue 2 kids steaks all ordered differently and a burger everything was cooked perfectly and got a service with a smile

The karaoke night was truly exceptional, the staff worked hard to keep a very busy pub lubricated and so much fun was had by all. Can’t wait until the next one.

We were served by a lovely lady named Trish who despite being rushed off her feet gave fantastic service. She took her time making sure our food and drinks order was correct by reading everything back to us and apologised for the wait (she was the only one serving at the time) anyone else could be flustered and panicked by the queue of people, but she was absolutely brilliant. The food came out in good time and was nice and hot and well cooked. Fantastic value for money. Will be coming back again!

Breakfast with Santa 🧑‍🎄 wow what a special event, the staff went above and beyond to put this on, with special visitors: Santa and the Grinch. On arrival we were greeted to our table, which had goodie bags for the children, Christmas crackers and was beautifully laid out. We had a lovely cooked breakfast and interactions with the characters. There was a table set up with biscuit decorating, drawing and colouring- which the kids loved! What a lovely special touch. The kids had an amazing time, as did us! Would really recommend and will certainly come back with the family for food, aswell as attend another event. Well run, organised and very friendly atmosphere! Thank you! 🤩

Another brilliant morning at The Flyer breakfast with Santa and the Grinch. Even more craft activities for the kids than last year, we had a fantastic time and the kids were entertained plenty. Selection boxes and a goodie bag were provided for the kids as well as 'make your own bauble' and 'biscuit decorating'. The food is cheap and the menu for breakfast with Santa had plenty enough options. Highly recommend booking here if you haven't already.

Really nice friendly local pub. Staff always pleasant and helpful. Eat there regularly with daughter and she loves the place. Excellent value for money. Went there on the 22nd for the santa breaking for the kids and they all loved it.

Today we went along to the breakfast with Santa and the grinch, the children had the most wonderful time! They enjoyed the activities, breakfast was lovely and all staff were really friendly. Loved that the manager was in the Christmas spirit with his grinch jumper...

Food was great, tasted lovely and presented well (unlike some other chains where by the food is just slapped on the plate). The staff were very attentive and helped with anything we requested. I would definitely return here again.

The fryer wasn't working so my usual chosen meals of Scampi or Fish... neither available. Food that we did have was good though. Unless it had only just broken which would have been very unfortunate I would of thought they could have sourced a fryer before the evening shift as it was a Friday night which is typically fish n chip night.

A good variety of pub grub, menu's for all ages, special offers available, nice size cozy pub, car park a little small, friendly staff, selection of draught soft drink very limited

Best pub in Chelmsford. When I ended up blacking out from drinking too much whisky, I fell out my wheelchair outside the front on the pub and started crawling around like a baby who munched up some mdma and a very nice bartender helped me get back in my chair. It's one of the most regrettable hangovers ever.

Someone give Adam a pay rise , everytime I go to the Flyer he's there working 110%. Always lovely service with Adam.

I think they may have been short staffed on the day me and my friend went for a lunchtime deal. 2 mains for £10.80, just one guy doing everything! Don't think he was doing the cooking though. I had scampi, chips and peas( which were dried up) my friend had a lasagne which was not that exciting and the garlic bread that came with it was so hard she couldn't bite it. Shan't be rushing back in a hurry I'm afraid 😩

We went here for our staff Christmas party with vouchers we had as a gift and they couldn’t have been more accommodating. We were a large party with various changes before the event without any problems. Such great value for money that we had money left on the vouchers to spend on a few bottles of Prosecco. Great night to round off the school term. We’ll be back!

Myself and 28 others visited the week before Christmas, we'd pre booked and pre ordered our food. Everything came out hot and fresh and one after the other. The staff were very good and patient. Well done the flyer and your team 😊

Definitely a great pub to visit to either have a meal with friends or just a few drinks. The staff a very polite, Chanice and Abby are always kind and try their hardest to serve you in a timely manner even on the busiest nights....

Although the staff were pleasant, the Xmas meal was not up to standard and far too busy and noisy but yes it is Xmas and nice meeting up with colleagues, but will not return next year

As a rule "chain pub" food can be very hit and miss. Not here! Just had a lovely sirloin, cooked to perfection. Service was excellent too..

Visit regularly. Always space to sit, inside and out. Always some sport on the several tellys... When there's been a problem (i.e. about drinks) it's been sorted out swiftly, positively with no fuss. Staff are quick and efficient. Some good offers available. Place could be much cleaner - all the tables and bar sticky today. Filthy toilets. Dirty glasses offered...

My partner and I regularly use The Flyer for lunch. As OAPs we appreciate the excellent value for money with the offers available. The tables are kept spotlessly clean with friendly staff going the extra mile.

Friday fish and chips with the grandkids Fabulus

Eleven people met for lunch. We were all made welcome. Food was served with in a reasonable time. A great place to meet and eat.

It’s an estate pub that is very reasonable priced. Limited selection of beers on tap but the largest selection of shots and sambuca that I have ever seen! I can’t comment on the food personally though I have it on good authority it is conversant with the price they charge.

Reasonably priced pup food. Ok coffee.
