Good quality fish and chips, exactly what you want! The halloumi and chips were lovely too. Small sit down area for those who want to dine in, and licenced with Madri on draft.

Far and away the best food for coeliacs/gluten intolerant in Portsmouth. The food is always excellent and they aren't peturbed by our loud family and disabled child. Our favourite place to eat out or take away.

A good place for fish and chips but the atmosphere and decor could be better. The place needs a bit of redecoration and also there is not a lot of space inside. The food however is good although a bit pricey and that’s why I’ve given four stars.

Fish was beautiful as where the chips, home made curry sauce 🤣😂 pure joke. Texture was a gritty paste, not good. Oh and £18 for one portion of fish chips and curry sauce, unbelievable.

Chips were chewy, maybe overcooked? The chicken was over cooked. Still ate it but not their normal standard.

This restaurant is perfect for people who can not eat gluten like, me and my father! The food was great the regular cod was giant en super tasty. I would recommed this restaurant in Portsmouth!

the place is very dirty, I saw some dead flies on the floor, Also the bathroom is very dirty looks like it hasn't been cleaned in a while. Service and food was satisfactory.

Amazing gluten free fish and chips,best I've ever tasted. Brilliant that it is completely gluten free restaurant so no worries of cross contamination. I have anaphylaxis to wheat protein so have to be really careful. Recommend to all fellow allergy sufferers

Well what can I say apart from being truly disappointed, the chips were dry and nearly inedible, the scampi, fish and sausage were all over cooked and dry, for how much they charge I would have expected better. Unfortunately this isn't on my list to return 😔

My mum went today to get some fish and chips and the staff were very rude to her (the man working there). They said they were closed however on goggle it says it’s open. Very rude staff. Not happy at all and terrible customer service.

Great GF food, but be careful they always drop to "Chips only" 30 mins before closing, so don't get caught out by turning up late.

Reckoned to be the best Fish & Chip shop in Portsmouth. I sometimes get takeaway, but chose to eat in on this occasion.

We visited this Fish and Chips at 2:30 Sunday.. The restaurant was about to close for lunch break at 3pm, which is not updated on their website at all ( I checked this prior to go there). The boys were clearly ready for their break and no warm welcome at all, but then they let us eat at the bar, which we appreciate. No sauces were offered apart from Salt and vinegar. Ketchup for kids would have been nice. Fish I would say okay and great portion, chips looked like scrappings or whatever left in the bag ( see pictures); they forgot kids juices. The general feeling - average and not welcoming environment, maybe due to looking forward to their lunch break, but customer is a customer until the doors are closed.

the quality of the fish and chips is exceptional…I am from Hull and started on the Trawlers at 16 and this is right up there…the portions are really big and the batter is light and crispy…highly recommend it

Fish is good, chips are mediocre at best. The crab and macaroni is great. Curry sauce is terrible as it is no longer chip ship curry. Online Service is the worst I've ever experienced, any where...ever! You are forced to order food online through an app. Which does not take goole pay which is a secure payment method. You have to trust that their app is secure enough when putting in your card details. Oh and their website has expired and is no longer available.

Lovely fish and chips and mozzarella pea fritter. You have to wait a while, but at least you know it's been cooked fresh. Two serving girls were extremely miserable looking. One scowled at me from behind the counter when I tried to open the shop door 5 minutes after their scheduled opening time to find it still locked. She was lucky I didn't walk off and try somewhere else. Please cheer up a bit!

Bit pricy but the food is good. Good portion size , fish is cooked fresh or does not sit for long. Crispy and not greasy Tartar sauce is one to try .

I'd not had fish and chips for over 13 years due to living in Canada. They tried to get it right but never was and very rarely found a gluten free dish as I'm celiac, it was always a battle. Came home to live and my god, first thing I did was order from this restaurant. I'm not exaggerating when I say I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. The fish, even the "small" version is huge, so moist and the batter is delicious. The chips are a great size portion and proper chip shop chips. It's so wonderful to be able to order so carefree knowing I dont have to worry about getting sick. Wish we could order all the time, but being disabled on a tight budget doesn't allow, so its a monthly treat. I highly recommend this place, honestly, you won't be disappointed.

We got there today at 8pm and they mentioned we only do take away as they are closing in 45 minuites.This was shocking but with so I asked if we could quickly sit on the side tables which the cashier reluctantly allowed. We order 2 fish and 1 portion of chips which was good and alot better than what's around.Shortly after they closed the overhead display menus as it seems they want to finish for the day. However I felt sorry for the brand as the lady in the counter diddnt have great customer service. Just after I ordered there was a queue of people wanting food however they mentioned to the customers that there was no more chips left....Shocking.....!!!A fish and chip restaurant without chips.

Best fish and chips in Southsea! The batter is always crispy and not oily. Also, unlike Deep Blue the fish are always massive and good quality. The chips are plenty and cooked to perfection!

Sadly disappointing return visit. We'd pre booked a click and collect meal, turning up at the allotted time only to find it all still being cooked. The staff then were puzzled about condiments, but this was all on the order, they still got it wrong. Sausages are also available in store, but not on the click and collect, which was disappointing. Pretty sure we'll look for another chippy next time.

Ordere from Uber east sausage and chips with curry sauce. It’s cost me nearly £15 and honestly there wasn’t enough chips to feed a child! And the homemade curry sauce is horrible. The sauce was decent though. Will not be ordering again as not worth the money

A game of two halves here. 1. Excellent fish and batter 👌🏻 2. Poor chips, why can't they just be chippy chips? Plenty of references to "hand cut chips" whatever that means. They feel like frozen catering chips so they don't need to do the preparation by rumbling fresh potatoes and blanching them so one feels their chips are a less than ideal time saver. Either which way the chips are dry and if you don't pay for their extras such as tartare sauce or mushy peas, make sure you drink water with the chips. Feels they should partner with The Chippy who make the best "chippy chips" but black fish. If these two businesses partnered they'd knock fish and chips out of the park in Southsea. Failing this I'll go back to the Briny which I've found excellent every time.

Amazing as a Celiac to have freshly cooked battered fish and chips. Thank you so much for catering for celiacs and not being stuck with jacket potato like everywhere else. Ate in, comfortable seating. Polite and attentive staff. Highly recommend. I don't live in Portsmouth but will definitely travel in to enjoy regularly. Thank you.

Not cheap, but good quality and very tasty. Much better, IMHO, than the fish and chip option on the menu of many gastro pubs for a similar price.

Absolutely fantastic haddock and chips. Not many seats but this place is really really good. I will return on my next visit to Southsea. 10/10.

Lovely fish senior meal too many chips

Today, we (3 people) came to the fisherman's kitchen for a simple lunch. We're visiting Portsmouth and just got off the train. After arriving, the nice waitress got us seated. The place is really warm and cosy, but fairly busy. We ordered the large portion cod and haddock, along with the loaded chips and a children's set. We were really hungry, so hopefully, that was enough. The food was served in about 10 minutes, and we're stunned by the portion. The cod and haddock were insanely huge, and the taste was crispy, juicy, and tender. The loaded chips were a pot of about 700g? AND it was not possible that we could finish all our food. Honestly, the kid's set is about a normal portion... when we asked the waitress for takeaway boxes, she kindly gave us two and was really nice and friendly. Would definitely 'not' recommend this place because you'll never finish the food! Would definitely come here again in the future soon if possible.

Very disappointed with today's purchase. Ate in here before and had nice fish and chips but the fishcake my wife bought today was mostly potato I think because it didn't taste like fish. Thick soggy coating, couldn't tell if it was batter or breadcrumbs, only luke warm in the middle. Chips were ok but so disappointing that I threw the whole lot away. Over £8 for fishcake and chips. Well overpriced! Will be asking for a full refund next time I'm passing!

Food is cooked to order. Fish is fresh, chips are delish. This is my “must visit” whenever I am back. Additionally it’s heavily gluten free which is a bonus if you have allergies/ intolerance. Love it

I am really not surprised this place gets good reviews. The service was great, the food delicious and reasonable pricing! On arrival they rearranged the furniture as we were a party of seven! I had the seniors meal which included a drink! Delicious fish, light batter and excellent chips! The best thing of all is they are gluten free which means my coeliac granddaughter could have whatever she wanted. Shout out to Abi who was really attentive!

After reading the reviews we had high hopes for this eatery. We were disappointed. It is very pricey for what really is a cafe, especially when they charge extra for what would usually be included in the meal price or for free, £1.50 for sauce and £2.00 for peas, this really bumps the price up. The cod was not very big, it was nice and moist inside but the batter was light in colour and very oily with no crispy bits. The chips were pale and obviously frozen from a bag. The cup of tea was nice. The service was OK but no real effort in making you feel confident in the food you were about to order, no real pleasantries as you would hope for when paying elevated such prices especially. Two of came here for lunch.

We heard about The Fisherman's Kitchen on a gluten-free support website, and stopped by after taking part in the Great South Run with the intention of buying some chips to take away. When we arrived, there was a table for two available, with the tempting invitation to "take a seat and we'll come to you to take your order". We were a little reluctant at first, as we weren't sure of the extent of the gluten-free menu, but when we asked, we were advised that almost everything on the menu was naturally gluten-free, and we could choose what we wanted (in fact the menu was the reverse of what we were used to: all non-gf items were identified!). It was so nice to be able to enjoy a plate of cod and chips, which tasted amazing - and we were delighted that we could have the vinegar too. Great food, great service from the lady who made us feel totally relaxed - 100% would recommend (in fact we already have!), and 100% would go back!

What a little gem of a place, hunting for gluten free fish and chips and discovered this great place. Super friendly staff, and the food was absolutely gorgeous and delicious. Proper battered gluten free cod, the chips were extremely good too. I will definitely make a return visit and highly recommend this place. There are a few tables for dining in or you can takeaway.

We have had takeaway fish and chips from here several times. I love that they serve a great 'kid's portion' which is all I can manage and is plenty. My husband has the normal size and it's always been fabulous! Will be giving 'eat in' a go soon!

I would give 10 stars to the service. My daughter has food anxiety about eating out due to coeliac disease. The server was so knowledgeable and reassuring. And my most importantky the food was delicious - you wouldn't know it was gluten free. We will be back soon.

Perfect choice for gluten sensitive diners. A rare opportunity for anyone who struggle with gluten intolerance to enjoy an excellent choice of traditional fish and chips. The entire menu is gluten free and it's impossible to tell! Staff are extremely friendly and there's a real sense of teamwork. We chose this chip shop because of the gluten free menu, but would recommend it a first choice regardless of your dietary requirements. Such high quality good! The batter is incredible. The chips are amazing. The cod portions are massive age the curry sauce is absolutely unbelievable! If only we had one closer to home!

This was recommended to us when visiting Southsea. We had traditional Cod and chips take away and they were absolutely five star, fish was so fresh, moist and perfectly cooked, batter was not too heavy and all freshly cooked and served red hot. Best chippy I have found in Hampshire.

£15.60 for large cod and chips Not many seats but quality is on point. Definitely one of the best I've ever had and is certainly better than Deep Blue

On this occasion it wasn't great as I found something on my plate. This did get changed. It was a bit off putting. As I've been a few times before I know it's not a regular thing to happen, I will go back. I am surprised the guys don't have to wear beard nets in the kitchen.

What used to be a great fish and chip shop has now gone terribly down hill. We used to love ordering from here and thought it was one of the best in Portsmouth but as of late you can tell it has changed and the quality of what they are sending you out as decreased significantly. We hadnt enjoyed our last 2 orders from here but stupidly decided to persist incase things had returned to normal, we were wrong. Tonight was the worst, as soon as I opened the box containing the chips, I could tell they were bad. Dark brown in colour, over 50% scraps and any that were big enough to call a chip were completely over cooked to the point when you bit into them you questioned weather this was good for your teeth. The batter on the cod was so sloppy and tasteless too. £37 wasted and in the bin. Won't be ordering from here ever again. They've clearly lost what they once had. Avoid

The food is excellent, but stoll expensive for what it is ( £3 for a small pot of peas add a fish and itits nearl £16). Also we had ours delivered and there were items missing, one of the worst things to have a member of the party with no food. Orders should be checked before sending.

Best fish and chips around and they do a massive range of gluten free

This is rumoured to be the best fish and chip place in Portsmouth... if it's not, it must be very close. The fish was beautiful... no skin, no bones and a light batter. The chips were bitesized with some crispy, some not so. Ketchup and mayo were available on the table. We were served at our table by a very friendly and cheery Abi. The main counter is geared towards take-away. There are only a few tables to the righthand side so you may have to wait if you want to eat in.

We first went here a year ago and it's really good. The batter was light and crispy. The chips were nicely cooked. The amazing thing is that you wouldn't know that the batter is gluten-free, of which you wouldn't tell the difference.

We didn't eat in, we always order ahead and pick it up and take it to the beach. Still the best fish and chips in Portsmouth. Their loaded chips are amazing.

I have always loved coming here but it feels like it has changed hands now. They used to do really good specials and really nice onion crumb batter. Luckily, they still do the butcher sausage but what happened to the other amazing options that made this place different?? It was always my go to place for F&Cs. Now it is just the same old as any other Fish & Chip place which is a shame.

Fish and chips were all gluten free which is good. But they were not hot, just warm. So probably sitting around for a while. Fish was not freshly cooked. Fish was not as fresh expected for being on the coast!

We had standard cod and chips, they were crispy white cod and really great chips can not fault the service great food enjoy!

Amazing fish and chips. We had takeaway from here and tried the large cod, chips, battered sausage, mushy peas and pea purée and mozzarella frittata. Everything was delicious and the staff were so friendly and helpful.
