The Cod Squad in Portsmouth

I spent £60 on food and it all tasted as if it had been cooked at lunchtime and reheated. It’s the first time I have had to complain about the quality of food from the Cod Squad.

The food arrived cold and all the chips were stale, old and rubbery. Very disappointing as its normally quite good. :(

Very disappointed - previous orders have been lovely but today the chips were a soggy mess and the fish batter was again soggy and very greasy. Will not be ordering again.

Order from here regularly and always good quality. Today the fish was over cooked and greasy, the portion size was noticeably smaller.

Can't fault the food which was delicious and hot, delivery speedy and on time. Will definitely use again

Order a pea fritter, young lad laughs and says 10 minute wait for it, chips were abit crispy and tasted like they had been refried a few times, could have been where I come in at 830, I got a feeling the young lady was in a awkward position due to the young lad I'm guessing son of owners by the way he was acting

We have been ordering fish and chips from here for the last 5 years but have noticed the quality has dropped recently. Last night the fish was cold and the chips had been refried and were chewy and inedible. Very very disappointed.

I had my order confirmed at 18.17 Now at 20.49 my food has not even been collected from the cod squad which closes at 9pm your food tracking says delivered at 21.10 how can this be I wish to cancel my order and be refunded immediately

Would give No stars , never recieved my order the restaurant was very unhelpful and rude.

the burger bun was inedible. so hard I could have broken a tooth. pretty cold food. overly greasy! I always order my chippy from here so very surprised at the bad quality of this order??? usually the best chippy in town!

The Chips had been cooked and then good again, the pie was soggy as heated in the microwave. By the time we received our order it was luke warm.

food wasn't great. new oil needed or they need to clean the fryer. chips were brown. also salt and vinegar was barely taste

Great fish and chips. Even had to share with my fur baby Tyrion. He and I had to lick our lips, as it's the best in town.

Will NOT be eating food from here ever again. The oil has not been changed in ages( I'm a chef of 25 yrs) so I know what I'm talking about , most greasy foods ever, all you can taste is old cheap hydrogenated fat that should be changed and equipment cleaned out regularly. Few years ago this place was one of the best in area , It's changed hands or staff now it's gone down hill. On a posative note it arrived fast and warm.

Normally exceptional, however today the cod batter was greasy and not crispy at all. Also requested a lemon slice with my cod but apparently not available????

food was bland there was no salt and vinegar on the chips the sausages were part cooked. the curry sauce was watery the cod was dry inside overall the food it self was horrible they need to sort out the fryer cooks I wouldn't give them 4.4 star rateing

The food is great, but I did feel priority was given to the Just Eat delivery guys

It’s been two hours and the food still hasn’t been collected from the store, the store have been contacted and confirmed this, now I’ve been asked to review the food that was delivered at 8pm and it’s only 7.34pm so no nothing delivered, nothing to review other than terrible just eat

Most bland fish and chips we’ve had for some time. Friendly chaps that served us - Polite, etc. The food was just bland. Soggy chips and batter. Each bite was chewing oil. Read loads of lovely reviews about how good the food is. Is this true and we came on an off day or are these biased reviews from mates.

Considered to be ‘the best fish & chips around’, we were very disappointed. Food did not taste freshly cooked, merely warmed through. Sadly not up to the standards of our own local chippy!

The amount of chips you get varies depending on who's serving, but aside from that, it's our favourite place to go.

fish was missing,chips were chewy and dried up,the mushy peas were slushy.phoned the shop and they were adamant they sent the fish and would do nothing about it.i can only assume it was a flying fish that flew away on the way to us

Very good fish and chips from the Cod Squad. The best I have found in Portsmouth and Southsea so far. Perfectly cooked crisp, thick cut chips and well cooked cod with a nice thin crisp batter. The regular portions were more like a large from some other chip shops and the meal was decent value at £11.70 for regular cod, regular chips and mushy peas. Highly recommended.

Never arrived cod squad no help when I called. I’m unable to find online chat and chat actually talk to anyone, I’d prefer to just get my money back but Just eat always seem to give it back as a credit which is unfair . So now our dinner is with a just eat driver cheeky git

We never received our order, spoke to company they blamed just eat, tried to call just eat. Never answered as it was a trading line instead, got an email saying it was delivered when clearly we received nothing. My husand went to local chippy to buy.

Ordered cod squad, ordered lots of times before never a problem and tonight they didn't deliver my food.. spoke to them they said contact just eat gave me was invalid.. disgusting service such a shame

Being the closest fish and chip shop to my house we go here quite a lot, reasonably priced and quick service. Most of the time the food is great but occasionally something can be a bit off but not dealbreaking, our recent trip had out fish be a bit overcooked but 90% of the time we have no issue, thats all thats stopping me giving a 5/5

Lemon slices does not come with your fish and chips, buy your own, come prepared! Chips are refried, can taste the oil, ewww. 50p per ketchup sachet, god forbid I needed more than two. :O wouldn’t recommend, will not return.

Good sized portions but (freshly cooked) chips were soggy - not sure how you manage that - and curry sauce was watery and tasteless. Also a mystery how you manage that 🤷‍♂️

This is a first rate Chip shop I would recommend to anyone and everyone, I always get great service and the staff are very attractive, you will see exactly what I mean when You try it Yourself.

We always get our fish and chips etc...here .but tonight the food was horrible...I had chicken and chips ....you normally get a chicken breast ...but tonight it was a chicken leg ....chips were disgusting ........it ended up in the bin .... Shocking food tonight ....where it's normally really lovely.......

the chips were chewy and very fatty..hard to swallow..the sausage was so greasy i bit into it and had grease run down my chin..tastes like the oil is about 2 weeks old a very weird taste..discusting

It was disgusting. No one at it. Most of the food was hard. Food was either double cooked or undercooked. Worst food ever. Would not being going again and do not recommend.

Where do I start the chips were warm, no flavour and soggy the cod was like rubber and was overcooked and the batter for the fish was greasy, soggy amd not crispy this place came highly recommended by friends and family again to say the least I won't be returning in a hurry save your money and go elsewhere

Lovely! Easy (and cheaper) to call in than use apps. Nice friendly staff and nice food with a few vegetarian options! Will now be regulars.

This fish n chip shop is a little hidden gem. I would say that the chips are the best I've ever had from such a shop, being double-cooked, well-cooked and presented. The cod is lovely white, chunky fish surrounded by crispy batter. As for the battered haggis - it is delicious! We take ours and sit down by the Hayling Ferry at Eastney. Bliss!

Cod Squad continue to deliver the best chippy in Portsmouth. My Glaswegian mum rates the Haggis 10/10, as do I. Stunning fish, proper chips. Perfect.

Food arrived when it was supposed to, the delivery driver rang to confirm he was at the right address and the food was hot and tasty. Will definitely be ordering from here again when I’m staying down this way👍🏼

Our food was not hot just warm and our delivery time kept changing not nice eating lukewarm fish & chips & it’s not exactly a cheap meal so hot would be better. Very disappointed.

No stars if I could … placed order at 4.29pm it’s nearly 7 pm kept changing delivery time then now it says delivered we have had no food delivered after all this time and over £27 spent and no food I am furious

absolutely phenomenal! I consider myself a bit of a fish and chip critic, as other I have eaten have always been okay... but this was another level! arrived quickly, was piping hot when delivered, and the fantastic sized portions were ridiculously delicious!

My food wasn’t delivered yesterday, I had to go and collect it as it had been an hour and the delivery time kept getting further away … I will never use just eat again ! O can’t give a rate for the delivery as u never delivered the it

Very nice Fish, both the Cod and Haddock, cooked to perfection.

Food was lovely, couldn’t recommend the fish and chip shop anymore. On the other hand, no delivery driver turnt up to deliver my order. I had walk down to the shop to collect my food. Avoid just eat at all cost!

The fish and chips arrived piping hot and cooked to perfection. My only complaint is that there were too many chips! As an OAP I had expected a smaller portion. Fortunately my son polished off the ones I couldn't manage, so nothing went to waste.

When we moved here 8 months ago we tried all the chip shops, this was the best. And have frequented it every Friday since. But the last 4 visits have been disappointing, the chips are somehow soggy but not properly cooked and stale?! The portions have shrunk and the sausage tastes of nothing. What's happened??
