We ordered lobster roll expecting some beautifully presented lobster curled round a tasty dressing. What turned up was a scant tablespoon of chopped overcooked lobster in a cold, cheap, tasteless white finger roll of bread that would have disgraced the bargain shelf of the cheapest supermarket. It was inedible. The side of hispi cabbage was well cooked, thankfully, or I would have left feeling very hungry. There are no loos. You have to use the dimly lit and droughty public loos in the adjacent council carpark. This is possibly the worst restaurant in St. Ives.

OMG what a find . Food was exceptional ( Korean Monkfish and Miso potatoes ) . Good local craft beer - what is there not to like ? Add to this the most stunning views of the beach complete with surfers and a beautiful sunset . Service was very efficent and delivered with a smile and genuine appreciation of you as a customer . Nothing was too much trouble . Simply fantastic . Can’t wait to return . 10/10

Lovely little restaurant with a very chilled vibe. Small menu but still a good selection of fish dishes. Good service, great food.

The fish is always super fresh and tasty - we love the monkfish and the hake, usually with miso potatoes. Great cocktails too (try the rosemary and grapefruit)

Great little spot for the sunset food is cooked superbly but the portions are extremely small had the catch of the day and the fish was a tiny portion compared to other really good restaurants but charging the same price a little rough around the edges ok perhaps for a beach lunch but not really for dinner no wine glasses had to drink the wine out of a tumbler not good no toilets had to use the surf club on the car park a little bit to be desired all in all they are charging top prices as the best restaurants. Better places to eat at

Don’t bother. Disappointing on most levels. Overpriced. Cold. Staff patronising. We wished we had stayed at home for dinner.

Came across this little beach restaurant by chance. It is situated at the far western end of Porthmeor Beach and would be an ideal spot to watch the sunset. Having a real ‘beach life’ feel, it has indoor seating and two outdoor spaces. We chose to sit outdoors and watch the surfers catching the waves. The menu is small but reasonably priced. The food was well prepared, freshly cooked, nicely presented and tasted delicious. Staff were welcoming and helpful, happy to describe dishes to support choices. We will definitely visit again in the future.

The menu might be small but each item we had was stunning. The staff were incredibly accommodating about one of our guests dietary requirements. Beautiful view, friendly staff and wonderful food.

Oysters were fine, Crab scotch egg looked the part but the flavour was underwhelming and there was a slightly snotty undercooked texture to the egg. The Korean Monkfish was dreadful! Bland overcooked batter outside with dry overcooked fish inside, not a clue what was Korean about it? The crab fries were standard frozen chips with a meagre topping. Also due to poor extraction the inside of the restaurant smells of overused cooking oil. From the lukewarm welcome upon arrival, disappointing food and an indifferent attitude by the team working here I can find little positive to say about the Fish shed.

The restaurant/cafe needs a little more attention to make it somewhere we would rush back too. No hearing in the pods was a bit of a challenge on a chilly September evening. We were offered rugs for our knees but they were thin and grubby. I was expecting a tempura style batter on the monkfish but it was hard and greasy. There are two offerings for dessert, and neither appealed to us. Lovely serving staff, though, who had a casual, friendly beach vibe. We had high hopes, but all felt deflated.

The restaurant is a bit rough around the edges and would benefit from some finishing touches. I suppose that this may be the sort of feel that the owner is going for, sort of just off the beach vibe, but when we’re going out for dinner we’re looking for something a bit more special. The food seemed quite reasonably priced, but when it came it was small, a small piece of Monkfish with some slaw. Fortunately we’d ordered sides of cheesy chips and braised cabbage, which meant that there was enough to eat. So the reasonably priced main course then became a bit more expensive because of the added price of the sides. The restaurant is a bit of a walk from the town (which wasn’t a problem), but the approach to it is not very well illuminated, so we needed a torch to light our way. Because of the location of the restaurant (which is right on the beach, but more out of the way), I think that the owner needs to make more of an effort to entice people in. Afraid to say that it wouldn’t be somewhere that we would be rushing back to.

The location of the restaurant is amazing for watching the sunset. The food was absolutely incredible. Probably one of the best meals we have had. It was all cooked to perfection. The staff we really friendly too. My only small criticism would be the lack of a toilet. You have to climb some steps and use the public toilets in the car park which spoilt the evening but only slightly. Having said that we would eat there again but use the facilities on the way down to the restaurant.

After seeing the team here take over a year or 2 ago my wife has been obsessed with wanting to visit. The food on the images looks amazing and the drinks likewise. Top that off with a view. We managed to visit this year and it was the best seafood meal I have ever eaten. The menu isn't huge, but that is ideal as it means what they do should be good; I had skate wings for the 1st time, and the way they came to start was beautiful, but the flavour and the sauce accompanied just another level. My wife had the Mackerel sausage roll again just brilliant. For the main, I had a monkfish tail and my wife the stone bass special, my wife won on the main, mine was great but hers was hands-on the winner for the night. On top of the great food we had the kimchi bloody mary, the flavours just kept me going back for more.

My husband has followed Dan Dan the Lobster Man on Facebook and we visited Porthleven purely to eat here. Sadly we were disappointed. The food was expensive and the crab sandwich was bland. We waited about 45 minutes for a bland crab sandwich and a pot of cockles. The cockles were tasty. Other people sitting near us had a sharing platter which looked good. Go and try it and make your own mind up.

Such a warm welcome from everyone and enjoyed seeing the locals at the bar laughing and enjoying themselves, a real feel of Cornish community about the place. Extensive menu so you don’t have to just stick to fish and chips, fish pie, curried cod and prawns to name but a few other choices. If you can get a window seat above the old lifeboat launch ramp do it. Enjoyed our meal here and a must visit if you are in the area.
