The Cod End Fish & Chip Shop in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Food was really good and portion sizes where massive. Fantastic views. BUT we ate in and the place had little black fly's everywhere. They were bombing us and going all over the food which made what could of been good experience a bad one unfortunately.

Reasonably priced Fish and Chips with a great view of Newquay beach from the tables inside. The chips were really nice and cooked well in beef dripping, the fish was well cooked too and decent size. The service was good and the staff really pleasant. There is a unisex toilet available too.

My chips today were lovely. I HAD LARGE BATTERED SAUSAGE AND SMALL CHIPS!! Wow, crisp, non grey, fresh lovely. My sausage was a little greasy but the usual kind you get from a good chippy, when you really enjoy it. The staff two ladies were warm welcoming and very polite, it was all very fresh and clean. Really impressed today!! 10/10 xx

Very good service and food. I've been to many chippy's up and down the country and tend to overcharge, but these guys are very reasonable and sure get your money's worth. Will certainly return should I come back to the area

We had a jumbo fish it was more like a shark . Beef dripping chips m m m . And service excellent x

Great medium cod and chips deal, in my opinion the portions were large, fantastic value for money

Sadly the worst fish and chips I’ve ever had. The chips were like chewing on hard roast potato’s. I nearly broke my tooth when biting into a chip. The fish was lovely and hot no issues with that but the chips were the worst I’ve ever had. Shame as the service was great, the man we ordered from was lovely. Curry sauce was great too.

Fish and chips were very good. The staff were helpful in advising with my meal deal. Would recommend as I can't complain.

Stale, greasy fish & chips. Poor quality. Saw a rat in the outside area beyond the glass doors. Would have left but we had already paid. Smog of stale oil in the air, flies on the window. We live a long way from the sea normally but always get good fish & chips. Expect the same if not better from a seaside resort. Terrible food. I notice that the reviews are not addressed by the management, which shows a lack of interest. Very poor.

We’ve been coming a few times now as we are locals and me and my partner love it. Great views and friendly staff food is always hot and delicious there Chicken meat is to die for 💯😋👍🏽 It’s an all rounder great place to chill and eat..

The best fish and chips I’ve had so far. Absolute great deal for £10 and to top it off a fantastic view whilst eating it. If we ever come to Newquay again this is where we will be eating.

Chips were pathetic portion for adult, my child had more than I did from children's meal. And kebab was lacking of meat. Also, our vegetarian meal came 10 minutes after our mains. So my daughter had to wait whilst we were eating and they forgotten the onion rings

Found hair in my hood they do not where mead mesh things 7 hairs and they made me a 2nd Bach and found more hair in it you have to pay to sit inside, especially when it’s cold and you miserable it makes it even worse rubbish all over the floor overall two stars

I have never talked about a review. Mostly just review using stars and leave it at that. But i've come here to warn people who come here that it's not worth it. The customer service is fine when paying but talk back to their customers when they have to do a little extra work. Cutlery was dirty. Fish was bland and dripping with oil. The burning oil smell when you enter is a dead giveaway of how bad the place is. The best part about this place is the view of the beach. You've been warned. The good reviews at this place are a total mystery.

Visit here for dinner with family after a trip to the beach. The food was nice however the service and staff were terrible. We waited 10 mins to be served even though the shop was quiet. The 5 chicken balls and chips came with 4 and we had to ask for the 5th. The burger meals are supposed to come with onion rings and we had to ask for these. Took another 10 mins after the remainder of the meal was out. We had to go up and ask for the coffee as they had forgotten it with our order. The staff were too busy just talking amongst themselves instead of actually serving us. I will not return to this shop and will go to a different one in the future.

Every time we are in Newquay we visit this place. Great view. It's a pity that the owner is changing soon, I hope the food will remain as delicious and fresh. Hospitable and very nice service.

Ordered here recently and was waiting however after 20 minutes had passed we asked how long it would be since everyone who ordered after us had already left! They told us they was waiting on what we had ordered to finish even though we could see it infront of us. We then asked for a refund because there was no sign of it coming. After asking for a refund, the young boy behind the counter started talking about me to other members of staff which is extremely unprofessional and rude! When I informed him that I could hear him he carried on and claimed i was lying about how long i was waiting. We are still waiting for the refund.

I’ve never been to a chippy in my life that is so disorganised! It’s really strange

We looked for a fish and chip shop, to eat in. The TCE caught our eye, as it offered a sea view, it didn’t disappoint, the food was really good and the service great. We will definitely revisit here, the next time we are in Newquay.

Great food good prices and absolutely lovely staff

Just had our dinner and loved it, view of a beach 🏖 is stunning too. 2 adults and 2 kids all finished our meals. Not big fan of fish at all and only eating when at the seaside, probably the best one so far.

Ordered chips and mozzarella sticks was told it would take 20 minutes as they were changing the oil 40 minutes later we asked if are food was ready and they informed us that it would be a few moment and was offered a drink on the house. An hour had passed after ordering the food as we decided to just ask for a refund as other customers who had come in after us were getting their food and leaving. When asking for a refund and explaining that we know longer wanted to eat here as been waiting an hour for food. The kitchen staff made rude comments about us in front of us. This made us feel extremely uncomfortable and was unnecessary as we were calm about the situation.

2nd year back here, food is still top notch. Great value and brilliant service. At busy periods expect a wait, buts worth it.

Really tasty fish and chips Entire gluten free menu including burgers, scampi and chicken. They also have GF vinegar. They use a dedicated GF fryer and the menu is available ALL WEEK unlike many others! Popular, so you may have a few mins wait as it's made to order, parking is a bit of a faf, but honestly really good value and great options. Big portion sizes too, very friendly staff :)

We went here after been ripped off at another restaurant tje food was top notch the cod was delicious would 100% recommend this place the people that work there are lovely and friendly to holiday makers

A lot of the fish and chip shops in newquay seem to have very little space inside and are quite expensive. This is an exception to that. It has fish and chips, was cheap and had a large menu which was great for one of my family members who didn't like fish and chips and was able to get a burger. Four meals and three drinks came out to under £50. The food was brilliant and there was a great view out the window of the beach. No complaints.

Got a standard cod with chips at The Cod End, and must admit that was really end of the Cod . Fish and chips were soaked in oil and tasted exactly the same, like old oil. Worst fish and chips I ever had. Stars for the view.

I’m veggie, my partners celiac and this place was great, really good knowledge of cross contamination around both. All the staff were so friendly and more than happy to help with anything. Not to mention a great laugh. Food was so good!

2nd visit, 2 years apart, still delicious. Eating in. Tasty batter, fresh chips, all perfectly cooked, 5 kids, 3 adults, no food left. We also ate in another chip restaurant named after a famous tv chef, situated on the headland, that would have got 4 stars for the food. I know where I will be coming back to in 12 months

Great fish and chips were crunchy but soft, and I had a saveloy which was cooked to perfection also they were gluten free! Which is a bonus! Not too expensive either, great portion sizes aswell!

We had fish and chips here yesterday. After looking online for ages for a good chippy in the area, this seemed to be one of the better ones in Newquay. It was on a Monday lunch time when we visited so it was fairly quiet. We sat inside and the views of the beach were fantastic. The lady who took our order was very nice and the food was lovely. I would definitely go here again. It was very reasonably priced too! £10 for fish, chips and peas!

not the best .. to greasy for my liking ..

Went in for lunch. Signs said food cooked to order but we didn't expect to wait just under half an hour for our food. By the time it arrived, we were really short of time as we had a train to catch. Apparently the wait was due to my lamb meat. I unfolded my wrap to eat the meat to find it was far from hot - warm at best with some parts cold so goodness only knows why it took so long! I left it and the wrap and ate just the chips, which were ok. My husband's fish was good. During our visit of about 45 / 50 mins, tables piled with plates remained uncleared.

This place used to be fantastic with great friendly service and great food. This evening was a very different with fatty and chewy pieces of chicken and a very flat and greasy jumbo cod - nothing jumbo about it… it’s maybe 5mm thick throughout!! Very disappointed and will never go back.

I have been coming in here every time i have visited Newquay for quite a few years now, every time the staff have been friendly, service has been quick and the food excellent. The fish, chips, and mushy peas are delicious, lovely fresh cod, crispy batter, tasty chips not greasy at all and mushy peas to top it off, this time i also tried the lamb wrap with chips and salad for a change, the wrap was large and the lamb very tasty, again the chips were good, ive never had any reason to complain about anything over the time ive been visiting Newquay. Best chippy in Newquay by far.

Been twice second time ignored by the staff who were to busy with phone orders to bother with customers walked out second visit will not be back.

We were regulars however the last 2 occasions the chips have been hard, not very warm and left a horrible taste. After eating a few the after taste is horrible, Both occasions we have had to throw them away unable to eat them! We gave them another go after our 1st lot of horrible chips and we shouldn't have wasted our money again! They was exactly the same, absolutely awful! Never again!

Travelled to Newquay from Wales on Friday. Myself and my husband have walked past here a couple of times during our stay. When we do a seaside holiday we always try to have traditional fish & chip meal, this place did not disappoint us. Go in and ask to sit down. The views are outstanding even more so is the food, very tasty, great value and excellent customer service. I would highly recommend The Cod End to anyone. Don't leave Newquay without trying it 😍

Had a medium fish and chips for £7.50 it was the worst fish I’ve ever had, heavy batter with a real thin layer of fish I don’t think it was cod However the view of the beach from the shop is amazing

What’s the point in having opening times if you don’t stick to them? Closed by 7.30 when clearly states outside that they are open until 8 this is a regular thing too! Luckily the chippy up the road is open l.

I called and ordered 2 childs cod and chips . The vatter on the fish had dye coming out ifbit and kids refused to eat it and the chops werae hard and difficult to eat, i was kept waiting due to odering kids fish while everyone else git served. I wont be going again

Super friendly staff, great tasting fish and chips if a little greasy. Being cooked in a beef dripping mix really lends itself to a unique flavour. Great chunky curry sauce. Amazing value to suit a budget.

Great f&c shop! It's very rare I can find a place that does gluten free fish and chips and so delicious, you can't tell the difference. Good service and great views over the beach. Good value for money and quick service

If you wana get a year’s supply of Cholesterol then look no further than this place. I am glad that they did not charge extra for bathing my chips in Oil rather than frying them. Given the time it takes the time it takes to go to the GP, I would be dead before getting Statin. The only saving grace about the restaurant was the staff and the view.

Ordered food to sit in.. sat out back and was told I’d paid for takeaway and could sit at the front bench’s n if I wanted to sit inside it was another £10!! 🤣 Fish was not very fresh and soooo greasy!!! Chips were very poor too.. Wish I’d not bothered!!! Very poor!!!!!! Wouldn’t recommend..

The kids portions are by far the best we have seen at any restaurant! Stunned with how good they were! We even had a bird fly into the restaurant whilst we were there which was quite amazing! 5 Stars all around to the restaurant and all the staff!

A definite 8 out of 10, the fish (haddock) is crispy and not too greasy the chip's are standard, and the peas are just moist enough. Really enjoyable meal. The mocha is nice, too.

Coeliacs/ people with dietary problems watch out! I come here every year and always had a positive experience and my dietary requirements being gluten free has always been catered for. I requested gluten free chips and the server told me blatantly they were all gluten free. However to her gluten free meant vegetarian and proceeded to serve me vegetarian chips that had been cooked with gluten. Luckily I double checked before eating that they were definitely gluten free and got told by another server they were definitely not. This could have made me very ill due to her lack of knowledge

Very reasonable prices, and the view out over the sea was lovely. Would recommend to anyone.

I stopped for lunch here on Wednesday 11th April and I was extremely impressed. I like to sit down and eat when I go out for fish and chips and The Cod End is great for this. Nice clean tables with a sea view, very friendly and polite serving staff and fish and chips cooked to order. Great value too - fish, chips, mushy peas and a cup of tea in a nice sit down location for £11.50. No ridiculous extra charges for sauces (I've been charged 60p for a sachet of tomato sauce in another place in Newquay!!). Just good food, fresh fish and no rip-offs. Highly recommended and I will be back soon. Thank you!

The service was excellent and the food was amazing the best we have had in Cornwall.

What an absolutely stunning place, the views are outstanding. Massive bonus is being dog friendly. The owners are so friendly and welcoming, it was a pleasure chatting with them. The food was amazing. My husband had fish and chips, I had pie and chips. Both meals were fab and really good quality. They even gave my dogs a sausage, which they really enjoyed. Highly recommend 👌

Horrendous wait as endless line of delivery drivers kept coming in. Lots of unhappy customers in the shop. Fish small and more like flat fish. Used as the Chippy was closed for some reason. Never again.

I’ve never seen such a bad service like this. The blond girl from the counter was VERY impolite. I asked a simple question and she rolled her eyes (????). All The tables were a mess even that the restaurant wasn’t busy. I sat down but gave up eating because I felt really bad with the girl’s attitude

Food tasted good and travelled well. Would have been a different review if not for the shockingly bad 'Southern Style veggie burger'. £5 for a patty in a box. Tasted great but missing everything that would make it a burger, at £5 it is a complete rip off. Really disappointing

Lovely food with lovely views, it's as simple as that! Food is cooked to order, and everything comes out nice and hot. Good quality food and tastes great in general. To top it off, there's a lovely view of the beach, and I could sit there for hours. Definitely a recommendation if you're in the area.

Lovely fish and chips. Popular so a bit of a wait. I parked in their customer parking spaces by the side of the shop and the aldi carpark supervisors sent me a fine as they had my number plate entering and leaving the area, even though i didn't use aldi spaces. I did appeal, and they cancelled the ticket. Thank you.

It's simply inedible. Paid. I waited 20 minutes. I tried it and threw it away. Health is more expensive)
