A real hidden gem, and without doubt the best place to eat in Hawes! Really friendly and helpful service from the young guy behind the counter. Fast service with good food.

Tucked away near the museum just on the edge of Hawes. Quirky bike shop and cafe. Great little place- they served a lovely GF bacon sandwich and fruit cake (with cheese, just as it should be!!). I'll be back

2nd visit to this lovely cafe which pays homage to the cyclist. Easy to overlook as it’s tucked away in the former railway station. It’s a little gem, full of character and serving lovely food. I had roast pepper and sweet potato soup with a Wensleydale cheese and chutney cob. Delicious and only cost £7.50. Dog friendly too.

We had lunch here and decided on a giant teacake and cup of tea. The tea came in a mug that clearly hadn't been washed properly as it had mouth drip marks down it and a ring round the top of the mug where the previous users drink had been. I waited a few mins to exchange but the girls were working in the back so decided just to pour it into a clean mug on the top. Our teacakes came 10 mins later, absolutely cremated on the tops, I would guess they had set on fire before being served. Bearing in mind COVID, we were pretty disgusted. Sort yourselves out.

Stopped off for late morning barm cake with sausage/egg and bacon or just egg. Food and coffee was very good and the atmosphere and staff friendly. It was a very wet week when we stayed locally and the place was busy either for take away or dine in. Not a big place and our party of 6 took up 3 tables, overall inside maybe 10 tables, includes couch in ordering area but when its dry there is some seating outside. Overall very enjoyable and would go again. You can access the cafe via the National Park Centre or direct through cafe entrance.

Our experience was a hodgepodge of good and bad, hence the average review…it is a quirky little spot in a bike shop, which has a lot of Tour de Yorkshire memorabilia up on the walls, which is lovely. A fairly limited menu, which again is a positive in my book - as when out exploring one does not need too much choice. However the service was not the Yorkshire warmth I have come to expect, the quality of the ingredients was not superb and the service was slow. For a location that is always busy when I have passed through - the expectation is for crowds to be anticipated, and as a minimum to staff according to the number of tables available.

We arrived soaking wet during a heavy rainfall and after I enquired regarding the availability of a table was answered by a petite dark haired woman (a member of staff who needs customer focused training), who informed me in an extremely curt and abrupt manner that, “if you notice I am about to clear and clean that table.” I hadn’t noticed and as she didn’t have any cleaning materials in her hand at the time was rather confused, up but we waited patiently whilst she eventually cleared and cleaned. Later the same member of staff came to take our order, again in a curt manner. When she returned with an incorrect order her reaction was that it was our fault that she had confused the order and she flounced off without a word of apology. Another member of staff delivered our tea cakes and then our coffees arrived and were again delivered by the original member of staff with what I can only describe as a reluctant and irritated manner. Maybe we were treated like this as the norm for that particular member of staff, maybe she had an ‘off day’ or was it because we were ignorant southerners who did not understand the ordering/paying system? Why the original member of staff bothers to work in the cafe is bizarre if she dislikes visitors and/or waiting at table? Maybe a job working behind the scenes would be more suitable for her? Whatever the reason for her manner it left a nasty taste in our mouths!

Great coffee and the orange and poppy seed cake was very tasty. Husband had the giant tea cake and he said it was delicious. Had a good laugh with the owner when the young lad helping, was screwing up a plastic milk bottle only for the top to fly off and hit me. A great place and we will be going back for another coffee before we leave Hawes.

My partner has been talking about this place for ages after visiting it on a motorbike ride some time ago. We had an afternoon out visiting the waterfall and managed to call in before the café closed. We both had a decaf cappuccino and shared the large teacake. I have to say all the talk of how wonderful the coffee was from my partner was very much proven correct. The teacake was lovely and fresh and had enough butter to really enjoy such a simple delicious food. The café was clean and the staff very friendly. Will definitely return and I know partner is already planning his motorbike ride to be able to sample their cooked breakfast.

The coffee here is fantastic, there's a proper Italian coffee machine. Top notch. We liked it that much, we went most mornings for our coffee, even indulging in cake. On our last morning we had a cooked breakfast before heading home, delicious. It is next to the tourist board and the museum. Tables inside and out. Lovely and clean. I will miss our daily coffee here. When we go back to Hawes again, this is one place, we will definitely head for. A cut above other coffee shops.

We were really looking forward to our lunch here again. Ordered 2 Ploughman’s and checked with the young lady ar the till that it was local made bread as my husband can’t eat some bread products ( allergy to preservative Calcium Propionate) When our meal arrived our bread rolls were just baked white dinner rolls - the sort Aldi sell part baked He can’t have those.. I explained the problem and the waitress was not happy, actually quite rude, but agreed to change it and asked my husband if he wanted a brown or white roll. He said brown. She brought his Ploughmand back with a large white roll which had the top crust flaking off as if it had been in a freezer a while. My roll was undercooked and still hot which wasn’t pleasant with a Ploughman’s. We both felt very uncomfortable after this incident so We ate and left. Last visit here.

Just thought I would take the opportunity and time to give credit where it’s due! I have read through some of the reviews from 2022 and can only imagine that there was a hang over from Covid , or there must have been different owners? I couldn’t praise this establishment highly enough. This is the only Pub in the small hamlet of Redmire , and the centre of the community. It was a wonderful mixture of friendly ambience with excellent traditional food. 3 of us visited in June , and after dining on the Monday, we ate there for the rest of the week, and never had anything other than a good meal, trying different dishes every night! We are returning again in August , and will probably dine again every evening during our vacation. This is a fantastic local pub serving quality traditional food made from locally sourced produce. If people are expecting Haute cuisine, then they need to manage their expectations, and probably dine elsewhere, leaving more capacity for the customers that appreciate it. As far as we are concerned…. Well done and keep up the good work! 👍👍👍
