A Friday night meal. Based on previous reviews we decided to visit this period built pub. Our first impression was a lovely welcome by Alicia, the young barmaid, who went out of her way in everything we asked for. Food was delicious and were large portions, which we both thoroughly enjoyed. We'll certainly be back here again next time we visit the area, thanks very much.

We visited here on the strength of TA reviews that liked the Sunday roast here and we received a very warm welcome from the lovely young lady hosting the bar. My long suffering partner ordered a Mexican vegetarian roast and this was spicy and wholesome- perhaps a little too much chilli for her taste- so beware if you’re the same and prefer mildly spiced food - my pork and beef was nicely cooked, three big roasties and the vegetables were okay - I would have preferred slightly more veg, if you expect more than carrots, peas and a few greens with your meat then you may be disappointed- I enjoyed mine and thought the cost of around a tenner per plate was good value. The sweets we ordered were a succulent spotted dick with generous custard (ice cream an option too) - my LSP’s sundae was a little basic - no cream - three scoops with a wafer and sauce - she had pudding envy for sure. Her turn. The bill came to around £40 for the food and drinks, and we would definitely return as the ambiance is good, great service and the price was right - good, basic home cooked food. So if you want a no frills roast then this should suit you.

We were visiting the area for the weekend and I booked Sunday lunch in advance based on tripadvisor reviews of the food. The pub is a real traditional local pub and we really enjoyed our experience there. They only serve roasts on Sunday which was no problem as was what we wanted. We all had beef (my partner, myself and 7 year old son) and it was delicious. A real home cooked roast. Nothing fancy or posh just a decent home cooked meal. We all cleared our plates which is unheard of! The apple crumble was again home cooked and fantastic. Staff were lovely and the pub was full for lunch which speaks volumes. We are back here in December and I’ve already booked in for the Sunday 😊

Hubby and myself enjoyed a nice lunch and a good pint of Wolf's beer. Generous portions of ham, egg and chips and sausages and mash for £15 - great value. Friendly greeting and great service. Covid19 guidance carefully followed and to top it all, a nice log fire on the go. Apart from that we greatly appreciate the fact that The Fighting Cock is dog-friendly and our dog was very happy there, sleeping for the most part of our meal.

I haven't been in the pub for a very long time and I was very pleasantly surprised at the transformation. It was aesthetically very nice, it looked and felt a lot more organised, decluttered and cleaner. It has lost that noisy music and pool bar ethos which allowed it to be more intimate in the dining area. The pub looked really inviting with its Christmas decorations and warm cosy log burner. The owners were very welcoming and attentive and nothing was too much trouble.I had ordered a specially prepared meal for last night and it was absolutely no bother whatsoever. The food was really lovely, my partner and friend had a dessert and they said it was fab.So keep up the good work everyone and I will continue to sing your praises!

We were a party of five ladies (of a more mature age) who were rather hungry when we arrived at 'The Fighting Cocks'. Despite the fact that we had arrived almost an hour after food service had stopped, the landlord took pity on us and said he would be happy to provide us with a meal. We all settled for bangers n mash and peas with onions and gravy. It was delicious! All served with a smile and a happy 'enjoy', which we did. That kept us going until we reached our holiday cottage up by Dereham. I only wish it had been closer so that we could have gone there for our evening meals during the week.

Visited mid-week after a difficult day at work. Nice red wine on offer for a fair price and, most importantly, comes in a big glass. Cosy seating, we found a nice secluded corner with comfy armchairs, and got given menus. I was on a no-carb diet and the owner was nice enough to adapt the menu to what I could eat, serving me steak and salad. Husband enjoyed his dinner too. The open fire and comfy leather sofas was an inviting place to sit and relax after dinner. There's good parking and an outside space for smokers/ summer time. Highly recommend this pub and looking forward to coming back soon.

Exploring this area in search of local information about a WW2 incident, we stumbled across this gem of a pub. Inside, the welcome was warm from the friendly staff and landlady and because of the roaring fire and comfortable sofas to lounge upon. Local folk using the pub provided a mine of information and resulted in a very satisfied member of our party who has since been contacted with yet more helpful information about the incident. We decided to stay for a light lunch but the portions were generous and can’t really be described as ‘light’ at all. The food was hot and tasty and much enjoyed. We left wishing we lived closer and could visit more often but we hope to pay a future visit to follow up the information received.

We waited for ages to be served as the bar lady was chatting to the half dozen people gathered at the bar. We decided to go out for a meal at very short notice, and Fighting Cocks at Winfarthing was a place that our neighbour had mentioned a few weeks ago, so we made a call and a table was booked. We'd never been before but decided to trust our neighbour's judgement. Having parked up, we entered by the back door, and having a 'thing' about cleanliness I was very happy to see that the pub has earned a 5* rating for food hygiene. On arrival, the landlord greeted us and we ordered a drink at the bar. My drink of choice, Aspall's Cyder, was on tap (so again I was a very happy person)! Once we had viewed the menu we made our choices - both of us chose garlic mushrooms to start with and I selected a chicken and leek pie and my partner chose rib-eye steak (medium rare) for the main course. Everything was cooked fresh to order and all the food was delicious. After the main course I was full but my partner decided to view the dessert menu. For us, it was the perfect dessert menu. On one side of the chalk board was a selection of cold desserts and on the other side was a wonderful selection of hot desserts including a number of our absolute favourites, sticky toffee pudding, spotted dick, jam roly poly, bread and butter pudding, chocolate sponge pudding with chocolate sauce. My other half opted for the spotted dick and custard, which he wholeheartedly enjoyed. The pub is well cared for and the decor is in keeping with the building. All in all we had a very pleasant meal and we will certainly be returning for another visit.
