The Ferry House in South Norfolk

This is clearly a really well run traditional English pub in a stunning riverside location with welcoming staff, attentive service and great home made food. Will certainly return.

After a walk by the river we stopped for coffee and cake. Friendly service together with a superb slab of victoria sponge made our visit very enjoyable. Will definitely go back for a meal .

I wasn't going to write this but on reflection I am so disappointed and annoyed I thought I would we arranged mooring for the night had a few drinks in the afternoon then went in for dinner had some soup was good then ordered a steak medium when it turned up I couldn't cut it with a steak knife it was raw and full of sinuews, there was a pepper sauce which tasted like bread pudding. So told them I wasn't paying for this he then put the blame on me saying I should of told them fair enough but that wouldn't have got rid of all the fst and grissle that was in it,He then charged me £40 when I was back on the boat realised they had overcharged me by £7 went back to ask for this he was furious thought he was going to explode. No one apologised it was clearly my fault,I have been coming to this pub for years never seen it as bad as this the weather was glorious but it wasn't very busy Go to the reedcuters or woods end fabulous pubs I will never come to the ferry again shame

Super location, near the river. Lovely chips 😊 and food. They have Aspal, my favourite in warm weather, and the Icecream Sundae was absolutely delicious. Dog friendly as well.

We moored here for the night on our way to Norwich and what a gem of a place it is. We are a family with 3 children and a puppy and the welcome was very friendly. Lots of seating inside and the outside seating was lovely. The menu was good and the food tasted amazing. The staff were very friendly and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to others.

Friendly traditional riverside pub. Loads of parking and plenty of mooring if you are boating. Water and power hook up plus showers and breakfast if you want it. Good beer and cider

Lovely breakfast after a circular walk around Surlingham. Great value £12.95 for a full fry up, orange juice, toast, jams and tea or filter coffee (the fried bread was delicious!) Freshly prepared and quality sausage and bacon. Friendly service and dogs welcome. (Breakfast served until 11am) Don’t be put off by the road closed sign near Kirby Bedon - it doesn’t affect the drive to The Ferry. Spotted Marsh Harriers, Grebes and lots more along the way.

Well what a lovely surprise🤩. Home cooked food and 2 vegan options I had the sweet potato Thai curry excellent 👍. My friends had cod and chips and ham egg and chips which were equally well received - so much ham we needed a doggie bag😂 Will come again

This is the perfect pub in the middle of a lovely walk. Right by the river with outside seating. We had a baguette to share. It was excellent value for money and perfectly fresh. The beer was really well kept and a lovely pint of Green Jack Trawler Boys. Thoroughly recommend a visit.

Food was excellent we had a 3 course meal including a wonderful roast dinner , meat was perfectly cooked and delicious (only let down was yorkshire puddings not homemade). Fantastic homemade desserts. Extremely friendly and accommodating staff . Great atmosphere, warm and cosy just what you would expect from a old style country pub. Very reasonably l priced also. Will definitely return.

The private road was full of pot holes,great if you have a 4x4. Bar service was so slow,spirits were so over priced. Steak pie was very nice,mash was lumpy and very tight on gravy. Pub was very cold.

Lovely little pub/restruant set away in a rural location that is absolutely worth a visit! One of the best cottage pies i have eaten out, certainly not shy on the meat or the quality and the same can also be said about the lasange! Staff were very accomadating of us including my father who has brain cancer and bless him can come across to people who are not aware of it slightly blunt or to the point and is also not shy to ask what he thinks haha. Overall a very pleasent experience we shall definitely be returning in the future :)

Lovely pub, traditional old establishment. Dropped in on a walk around Surlingham for a drink. Very friendly service and good pub menu. Chose lasagne from a tempting menu, unbeatable, the chips were likely the best I’ve had in a British pub.

Well, what a lovely place. Just moved our boat to Brundall and our first trip out on my Birthday. Fantastic lunchtime meal, lovely staff and even got sung “Happy Birthday” I can’t praise this place high enough , they made my day :-)

A lazy Sunday morning breakfast treat on a crisp February morning. A warm welcome from all the staff and the food as usual was lovely. Opted for the large full English breakfast which was perfectly cooked and plentiful.

Very quaint old Riverside pub,booked Sunday lunch, arrived at 14.00 very full glad we booked , very welcoming staff. Ordered 2 mixed meat and 2 beef Sunday lunch. Quickly served very hot and big portions. No rol. For dessert. Would recomend, well done to the. team

My youngest son is coeliac and type 1 diabetic.Sourcing gluten free choices is always top of our list- you went over and above to ensure he had what he needed and the food was brought out in such a timely fashion which was important for him. We visited here around 20 years ago and managed to moor a few days ago. Lovely traditional pub currently having some work done to it. We were made welcome and enjoyed a drink before heading back to our boat.

New to boating, we booked a mooring this week and I almost made the right spot - just moved the reservation board to where the boat ended up. Stopping overnight, we had an evening meal here which was lovely. The menu, and pub, are most definitely "old school" but the food was great - plentiful - well cooked and piping hot. Both my wife and I loved it. We had breakfast in the morning before setting off and that too was outstanding - probably the best breakfast in a pub/hotel for a good few years. Staff were very nice and helped us out as we'd forgotten to pack a phone charger. I really could not fault this place and we'll definitely be returning.

We absolutely love coming here. Good, simple, hearty food and drinks in a proper pub, served by wonderful people right next to the water. A really friendly and welcoming place with a fire going in winter and a fab beer garden in the summer.

Great place to relax next to the broads

We regularly stop off when we are on that stretch of the river Yare in our boat. The welcome is always warm, the food is superb. If arriving by boat, it's best to book ahead.

As usual a lovely meal, we try to moor up here everytime we go on the broads. Haven't been since 2019 and glad to see still run by the same people and the food still as good. We can't always moor up but this time we had a rowing boat and moored up opposite so we're able to row a cross. Good veggie options as my son with us this time. Great place to stop off for dinner and breakfast

Honest simple pub grub, all lovely and very tasty. Staff were all charming, couldn’t do enough for us, bent over backwards to help us. Traditional old country pub, completely authentic, enjoyed it very much.

Lovely warm welcome at this traditional English pub. Menu simple but tasty and nice beers. Right on the river, can while away the hours watching the boats sail by.

Lovely jacket potato but lots of menu items not available. People came in after us were eating a roast even though it had stopped being served!

Absolutely love it here. Any time I'd the year. The food is really good and it's so lovely outside by the water and watching all the boat activity with lovely walks around and a great spot to paddleboard from. It's my absolute go to place.

Lovely setting by the water, beer was good but the food was particularly poor, especially surprising after being recommended by a few people. The curries tasted like they came out of a jar and came with microwave rice...not what I expect for nearly £15 and way below what I was hoping for.

Lovely garden & beautiful position on the broads, a group of us had booked a table & the homemade food was very good with generous portions. You must try the raspberry cheesecake so yummy. We will be back. Jamie was very friendly

Awful landlady. Vile customer service. Will not be returning! Our whole party was shocked and disgusted. Such a shame as loved this place- will avoid now at all costs

Loved this place for years! But wont be returning after the AWFUL customer service. Land lady was rude and nasty to my friend who is battling leukaemia. Planned a lovely day out fishing ( called to confirm before hand ) with food there for her Birthday, and was spoilt by this vile encounter. We quickly packed up and left. Been a customer lots here but i will not be returning at all. AVOID. Nasty

Our second visit, originally we came 8 years ago, nice pub in a great location but we felt the food was very basic and the menu was definitely not as good as previous, however staff were very friendly. Unfortunately we won’t eat there again

A lovely evening sitting by the river, delicious food, we had the chicken curry. Friendly staff, plenty of parking and a nice if a bit overgrown circular dog walk.

It was my first visit here last night with my other half. It was very busy but we were not kept waiting too long. I can recommend the chicken curry, this was very good. We were too full to order desserts! Lovely staff & so good to sit by the river.

Fabulous community feel pub on the edge of the River Yare, a few miles outside Norwich on South Norfolk Broads. Ideally suited for Broads Boating holiday families. Sonia (and Sandra), along with other staff really make you feel welcome. Their food is reasonably priced and tasty (Full English REALLY good). Pet friendly too. If on the South Norfolk Broads visit this pub.

Really friendly and lots of space. It can get busy, and the portions are generous. Good spot to sit by the river. There's a decent vegetarian menu but you have to ask as it's a bit of a secret.

We had a fantastic roast dinner. Definitely going back.

Gorgeous spot to stop for a bit of lunch when boating. The staff are so friendly that alone sold it for me!

This is a little gem of a place right on the river and as the name suggests it over looked the old crossing. Nice and old inside so totally in keeping with it's age, but if it's sunny sit outside and watch the boats go by and of course the amature shipmates trying to tie up their boats which is so funny they should sell tickets. Do get the wrong impression from the car parking here as you might think the pub is packed but it's not it's people just out walking. My only gripe is when you pay for a pint of beer why is it so hard for bar staff to give you a proper pint. But other than that this is a lovely place to sit and relax.

Came to The Ferry House for the very first time today and I am certain it is now somewhere we will visit again soon! Lovely little pub, lovely decor, seating outside nicely spread along the water and staff were super friendly. The food was absolutrly superb. Barely waited 15-20 minutes. Would highly recommend this place and specifically the Beef & Ale Yorkshire Pudding, it was unbelievable! Beers under £5 in these parts is good going too, which is no surprise as their whole menu was really really well priced.

Lovely little traditional riverside pub. Nice to find somewhere that hasn’t been overly modernised and made ‘trendy’. Really lovely staff - we were made to feel welcome immediately. Food wasn’t mega cheap but it was reasonable and of good quality. Slightly downside was the sticky tables though not dirty. Our table was difficult to sit at due to the heavy pedestal but wasn’t a major issue. All in all we had a lovely lunch and will most definitely be regular visitors.

Arrived Friday afternoon in Motorhome ,left on Sunday morning, had wonderful time, James and staff excellent . Food and drinks excellent and a thank you to Derek for sorting my hook up out. Overall a great weekend away,oh and a little bit of fishing as well.we will return.

What an absolute wonderful find this place is.....beautiful peaceful pub next to the river .....we came here for one night in our campervan and ended up staying for 5!!!!...everyone we came in contact with made us and our dogs so welcome ...an incredibly friendly place to vitit and enjoy.......I'm not sure of many staff names all of who are amazing but Roz we cannot forget you as you are a true gem. Food is out of this world and nothing is too much trouble ....thank you to everyone for a most enjoyable break away ......much love from Mary, John and the whippets xx

Lovely prawn mayonnaise baguette with wedges and Tuna mayo baguette by the water in this out the way tranquil part of the broad. Travelling from Wroxham as the crow flies it's about 4 miles, however you have to go the long way round which was closer to 10 miles. It was worth the trip and very happy with the settings and the service and barman even gave me a piece of bread to feed the ducks that are everpresent. Would recommend this place especially on a nice day and all were friendly. See the Ferry House again soon for a main meal. Cheers Guys and Gals

Very rural but well worth a visit. Lovely riverside pub with fantastic food. We sat outside and the food was brought out to our table. The wait was not long and the service is very friendly. The steak and ale in a giant yorkshire pudding was the best sunday lunch I haave for many a year. Prices are also very reasonable and it's dog friendly. Will make sure we return.

Perfect setting and good and honest. We have been coming here for years (over 20) and Sonia knows how to run a nice establishment you can rely on. Home cooked food and decent prices, even on a busy day not a crazy wait despite plenty of customers enjoying the riverside views and moorings. We E-bike here and also visit to paddle board occasionally and Sonia is very accommodating whatever we have asked, which makes it easy to travel the 30 miles or so to get here each time.

Booked for a meal as we were staying locally and it was recommended as a good place to eat. We were glad we booked as it's popular. Service was great, food excellent including both steaks cooked as requested and the lovely puds ( both types of cheesecake and the crumble) were a perfect end to our night out. With draught Guinness and local beer to accompany the food we were well served.

Went on a busy night, but service was very efficient. Main courses served on hot plates. Normal range of pub food at reasonable prices. Puddings appeared home made, with generous portions. Recommended.

Lovely old pub in fantastic location at the edge of the river Yare. Friendly and engaging staff. Beers kept well (only 4 stars as no Woodfordes ales stocked - despite the brewery being less than 5 miles away. Strange decision !). Enjoyed our stay drinking on the lawned area watching various boating activities. Decided to visit again for more of the same.

A great riverside breakfast and handy if you want an early breakfast before walking the dog along the Wherryman’s Way. The bar staff were extremely friendly and the breakfast substantial. Dogs are made most welcome ad ate well behaved humans!

The Ferry House food was exceptional. The cod and chips was cooked to perfection. The best ever tasted in UK. The menu simple and very reasonably priced.

Day 2 of a 4 day Norfolk broads boat trip. By far the best pub we visited on our trip. Straight away met with a friendly face. The pub felt very welcoming and you could tell the people behind the bar as well as the chefs were very passionate about the place. The food, really was amazing. Felt very hearty and made with care. We all left with full stomachs and felt like it was worth every penny. The staff really looked like they wanted to be there which made the experience so much better. If the owner is reading this, seriously well done. We often eat in restaurants in London and all over the UK and we were blown away by the quality.

Ok so this isn't a gastro pub. The food doesn't break the bank and it is good and honest and really hit the spot. Staff are friendly and the location is beautiful, right next to the river, and quite secluded.
