Lovely country pub. We requested a short notice booking for 16 of us for a 40th birthday and Sonia and her team couldn’t have been more accommodating. Even putting up a birthday banner. Thank you so much, food was lovely and we will be returning.

New to boating, we booked a mooring this week and I almost made the right spot - just moved the reservation board to where the boat ended up. Stopping overnight, we had an evening meal here which was lovely. The menu, and pub, are most definitely "old school" but the food was great - plentiful - well cooked and piping hot. Both my wife and I loved it. We had breakfast in the morning before setting off and that too was outstanding - probably the best breakfast in a pub/hotel for a good few years. Staff were very nice and helped us out as we'd forgotten to pack a phone charger. I really could not fault this place and we'll definitely be returning.

We can't always moor up but this time we had a rowing boat and moored up opposite so we're able to row a cross. Good veggie options as my son with us this time. This is a little gem of a place right on the river and as the name suggests it over looked the old crossing. Nice and old inside so totally in keeping with it's age, but if it's sunny sit outside and watch the boats go by and of course the amature shipmates trying to tie up their boats which is so funny they should sell tickets. Do get the wrong impression from the car parking here as you might think the pub is packed but it's not it's people just out walking. My only gripe is when you pay for a pint of beer why is it so hard for bar staff to give you a proper pint. But other than that this is a lovely place to sit and relax.

The pub felt very welcoming and you could tell the people behind the bar as well as the chefs were very passionate about the place. The food, really was amazing. Felt very hearty and made with care. We all left with full stomachs and felt like it was worth every penny. The staff really looked like they wanted to be there which made the experience so much better. Free mooring and water. The food was lovely and reasonably priced. Service was perfect from the lady that served us. The chef came and spoke to us after our meal and showed us photos and gave us a bit of background of the 300 yr old pub which was lovely. Unfortunately we nearly didn’t go in, on our arrival we noticed a gent talking about us (we did struggle to moor as the boat kept floating to the one next to us before we could tie her up - we are learners) we asked if he was ok but got a snappy YES! After mooring he came hurtling towards us flapping that we were ‘touching’ his boat. My dad and husband tried to explain what had been happening but he sent us further away and became a little patronising towards us. Later the same Gent - Martin came and told us how much our bill was, we had to ask for the actual bill. He mumbled that he’d have to write it out.

Our Christmas lunch was sadly ruined by some apparently ‘proud’ locals that could not handle their beer or their fowl mouths. The meal was great and the staff were lovely. Absolutely no complaints in either of those areas. We had taken our Mum for Christmas lunch as we will not see her over the Christmas period. The men on the table behind us, one in particular, just got more and more drunk. As the endless drinking continued they became louder and more obnoxious. We tried to ignore them and get on with our meal, hoping that they would eventually leave, but they stayed and drank even more. Eventually I had enough of the continued swearing and lack of regard for anyone else and asked them to calm the swearing down. They said they were locals and that we should piss off……we did leave. Their behaviour had been vile. It’s a shame. If you are a ‘proud local’ you should care about the reputation of your local pub and the livelihood of the people that depend on the income from it…..and maybe learn a few more words 🙄

I can’t really comment on the rooms. Just to say for anyone in the area on business at the local business park, considering breakfast beforehand, The Bird in Hand was great this morning. Opened the Restaurant at 0800, a pleasant young lady was welcoming to non guests. All sorted, breakfast done, off to my 0900 meeting. Good quality breakfast and Great service. Sorted 👍🏻

My Granddad, Ron Henery (R.I.P.), wouldn’t settle for anything but Lims. I’ve been coming here since I was a lad, barely tall enough to see over the counter. Every time I visit Loddon, it brings back cheerful memories. The chips are excellent, and the fish is, without a doubt, the best by a country mile.

Very disappointed. Arrived Monday evening for a 4 night stay for work. When I was shown to my room it was instantly obvious the heating had not been on. It's mild for the time of year but it's late autumn so would expect a little warmth. The member of staff said they would need to override the heating to turn it on. So I sat tight for about 15 minutes, still no warmth to the radiators. I work outside so fortunately I was dressed warmly. I returned to the reception twice but clearly unable to rectify the heating. I understand that sometimes things go wrong but it's the way you deal with the problem. The extent of this was "I've done what I can" obviously expecting this would a satisfactory resolution. I stay away for work on a regular basis and I had a similar situation which was resolved when they brought a heater to my room and the offer of breakfast in the morning. I was made to feel like I shouldn't be continuing with the issue. I decided to leave as the room was just too cold. Very poor experience considering this is hospitality.

3 of us had lunch here. We all chose something different and each dish was great. Everything was lovely and fresh. The soup was homemade with a generous portion of bread. The sandwich from the specials was accompanied by two types of salad as was the sausage roll. The service was efficient and friendly too. I highly recommend.
