Recommended by a friend who was celebrating her 50th. Lovely peaceful countryside location Bar and rooms beautifully decorated with vintage furniture and lovely little touches candles, pretty lamps - like a stylish boutique hotel. Rooms clean, cosy, spacious and welcoming. Breakfast set us up for the day and journey home. Quality ingredients, strong bodied coffee and excellent attentive customer service. Would highly recommend and plan to return to stay. Thank you

There was two of us just looking for a drink. As entered the pub there was around 6 people inside drinking. Bloke behind bar asked if we booked, we said no. You can’t come in then. Clearly not interested in the money. I know times are strange. Also he had no mask on behind the bar

First visit with daughter tonight. The owners are friendly, helpful and on the whole the pub is a gem. Got talking to alot of the locals that was how friendly it was. We had two curries and two pints for under £30. We could have had two puddings added for a total price of £32. Great value for money. Great selection on the menu anything from fish to pies. We will be going again shortly that was how impressed we were. The interior is just a nice place to sit and drink a delicious pint of real ale.

This is not the nearest pub to where my mother lives but it is certainly one of the friendliest. I have been there a handful of times and never once felt I didn’t belong, despite not being from around here. Colin and Sarah are friendly without being intrusive and every time I’ve been the other locals at the bar strike up interesting conversation. The drinks are inexpensive and he atmosphere second to none. I would recommend this pub over the others in the area.

We booked prior to a trip to East Anglia with extended family. From th moment we entered the pub, the welcome we received was warm and friendly. We were shown to a large table where we enjoyed a drink whilst we looked at the menu, which is reassuringly small but nevertheless full of dishes that look so lovely it made it impossible to make a choice without worrying whether something else might be better. The pub specialises in home-made pies (steak and ale, fish pie, steak and kidney and Chicken, bacon and tarragon) which take up to 45 minutes to prepare (and this is made very clear on the menu - so expectations are well-managed, also). There are also wonderful reinventions of old favourites (venison curry, for example - which was delicious) Sara knows the menu well and was able to guide the less decisive among us to a decision. The restaurant is quite small, which I imagine has a couple of distinct advantages - first that the kitchen would rarely be in danger of being overwhelmed and second that Colin and Sara are able to provide just the right degree of attentive service. The food is also plentiful - you won't find the 'big plate, small helping' approach of nouvelle cuisine here. This is good, hearty, wholesome food served in good-sized portions. The desserts are also amazing. And to cap it all off, Colin and Sara are currently offering two mains, two desserts and two drinks for £26 - just £13 a head, which seems too good to be true, but makes a brilliant night of great food affordable for most pockets. It was an absolute delight and I can't recommend The White Lion highly enough. If we return to the area, we would certainly visit again.

Lovely friendly atmosphere. Sara and Colin are good hosts. Small pub with a few dining tables and space for drinkers. We all had different food and every plate was tasty. Puddings home made. This is the place for those who like a main and pudding as they do not serve starters. For me that was a refreshing change as my preference is always main and pudding! Good price offer for two courses and a drink. All in all a good night out.

Nothing authentic or remotely Thai ! Have eaten at many Thai restaurants!

I stopped off this evening with my family at The White Lion Toft Monks. I haven't been in the pub for about 30 years and what a transformation. We were given a very friendly welcome. The locals in the pub were also really pleasant. The meal we had was outstanding. You do have to wait a little while as the food is freshly prepared. Well with that wait. The pub serves food three nights a week from Thursday starting about six. I had Pork Casserole absolutely delicious . My younger daughter Meatloaf. Neither of us had tried it before and it was lush. Served with lovely vegetables. I cannot recommend The White Lion enough. There's good choices for Fish lovers and vegetarians. They also make their own pies. Looking forward to our next visit and trying the Fish Pie!

My mum sister and I went to the White Lion for a mothers day treat. Even though it was not on the menu, the chef rustled up some veggie sausages and mash with veggie gravy for me. My mum and sister both had roast turkey, which they said was very good. The vegetables were cooked just right, as they were cooked to order and so had not been sitting in a hot dish for ages. Mum and sister raved about the home-made apple crumble, while I had fresh fruit and icecream. The whole meal including drinks and coffee came to less than £40, which was excellent value.

We stayed at the Waveney River Centre and decided to go for a meal at the Toft Lion (so called to avoid mixing it up with the White Lion in Wheatacre, only a few miles away). The food was absolutely superb, prepared from scratch by the chef. I had a steak and Adnams pie with vegetables cooked to perfection, my wife had the Indian vegetable curry, my eldest daughter the Thai chicken curry, and my youngest (a fussy eater ) the chille con carne , which was the special. All four plates were cleared ! I don't eat dessert myself, but the others all had them and were enthusiastic about them. There is a "meal deal" of two meals, desserts and drinks for £24 which is excellent value, especially for food of such good quality. We will certainly be going back next year when we're up that way.

I booked for 5 people for an evening meal deal of a main, dessert and drink for £12 each. Really great value! The food was all home baked and beautifully presented on white china with vegetables and side dishes placed on the table to help yourself from rather than all on one plate. The service we received from the Landlord and Landlady was impeccable (which totally contradicts the previous reviewer's experience - so not sure what happed there), they were both attentive but not intrusive. The pub has obviously recently received a revamp and although an older property it had a really lovely contemporary feel with each table having a lit candle which created a nice ambience. The only fault was my daughter's gammon steak was rather tough which is why I rated 4* rather then 5* but at £12 for the whole deal how can one complain too much. Well done to the proprietors!!!

My fiance and I arrived today at 6 hoping for a nice meal. We did not make it inside because the landlord walked across the road to greet us with the message that they were not open till half past. There were clearly half dozen people drinking outside on the garden benches. As we left the car park I looked back in my mirror to see the landlord laughing with his wife and offering me his middle finger. Needless to say we felt most offended and will never visit this horrid place. I imagine the other reviews must have been his friends and family. We have never been so insulted.

We visited here last week when staying at the Waveney river centre lodges. It is in the village of Toft Monks so is really close to the lodges. The owners gave us a lovely welcome. It looks like a traditional pub from the outside but it is really contemporary inside. The food was freshly cooked to order, I had salmon fishcakes and my partner had meatballs with tagliatelle, both delicious, followed by homemade apple crumble. They have a great offer on at the moment too, £24 two mains, two desserts and two drinks from the bar. Definitely recommend it if you are in the area.

Exceptionally well cooked pub food. Nothing fancy but everything was prepared perfectly. The steak and ale pie was freshly cooked, was full of proper meat ( which makes a change) and good flavours. The vegetables were also perfectly cooked - nothing raw or soggy.Very friendly and helpful service - proper hospitality .It's a slightly odd pub in that it is old and traditional but quite bright and lots of light woods and light materials which stops it having that decaying stuck in the 1900's feeling. Obviously a quite popular pub and the locals seemed friendly which is always a big bonus if you are visiting for the first time. All in all the only problem is that it isn't close enough to where I live to be my local.

Treated to a meal here by family and have to say was one of the best pub meals me and my wife have had in ages! .The menu is made up of traditional english dishes with specials and great home cooked meat pies.Me and my wife opted for toad in the hole and what we had was cooked to perfection inc the veg which is normally where other pubs go wrong. They use actual proper pork sausages and mashed potatoes which taste awesome!!.Followed by a brownie desert & sponge desert which were very good as well. The pub its self is very well presented inside and has the added bonus in the winter of a wood burner which makes for a homely feel. The landlord & lady couldn't be better and were very welcoming to us as were all the locals drinking in the pub which can sometimes be awkward in some country pubs. All in all a brilliant restaurant and will be back again to sample some more of the menu.

We came on 14/10/24 for a family wake. Mandy and Simon did an amazing job of making the room welcoming and accommodating us with all our wishes. The service and food were of excellent quality with a very fair price and there was plenty for all. It was so nice that even the cakes were iced in the favourite colours of our late family member, not requested but we felt was such a lovely added touch. Thank you Mandy and Simon, we would definitely recommend you.

Found the cafe purely by accident, on the High Street, stopping in Loddon for something to do on a rather autumnal day. You will find it near to the take away and funeral services, but don't let that deter you...So glad we popped in! Wide choice of cakes and some savouries, including vegan and/or gluten free. Huge pot of tea! Pretty tea room, very well equipped single toilet. Family affair, mother and two daughters bake everything on site. Long chat with lovely Lisa, so enthusiastic about their business. We only tasted a quiche and blackberry cake, but goodness, so delicious, and if a hint of other produce from their fine hands, well worth a further visit or cake order. Apparently mum Julie runs craft classes upstairs too.. talented family. We wish you continued success and will hopefully see you next holiday.
