How this place has been rated 4.5 stars is beyond me. You’re made to queue for 30mins behind everyone ordering food when all you want is a takeaway cake. Apparently having 5 staff members all focusing on one customer at a time is the ‘logical’ thing to do. Someone might want to let this place know that a one queue system only is actually illogical and then maybe it might go up in this world a bit. Rude and unhygienic staff who wipe snot on their arms as they serve you. Will not be returning.

I had to report on my lunch today, it was soooo good. Slow cooked belly pork with bubble and squeak, from the blackboard menu. I always enjoy the food here but this was the best yet. As well as the standard menu stuff there are interesting and imaginative things on the blackboard, the chef is very clever and talented.

Along with a lot of people five friends needed a pick up. So we booked afternoon tea. We were given a choice of indoors or outside. As the outside seating included bench seating, we thought we would be more comfortable inside. The staff were friendly, efficient and very helpful. The two platers of sandwiches, were fresh and varied, egg, ham, chicken, prawn and cheese, with crisps and salad dressing. Choice of tea and various cold drinks. This was followed by delicious fruit scones, jam and clotted cream. At this point we were full, but were provided with boxes to take home a variety of cakes, macroons and chocolate strawberries. We were asked a couple of times if we wanted any top ups, but not pestered by over zealous staff. Well done Green Pastures we will be back.

Visited on 30/05/21 with family for Sunday roast. Food was delicious and cooked to perfection, HOWEVER, the service provided by the older lady serving us, was absolutely rude and shocking! Being asked if the gravy for the nut roast was vegetarian, she scoffed twice before saying ‘yes’. Didn’t seem keen to be answering wine questions either! She dumped a tray full of drinks eventually without saying a word and stormed off. No one came to check if we were happy with the food or needed anything else ( I would’ve wanted another drink with my food.) We didn’t get asked if we wanted pudding, again quite happily we would’ve looked at the options. And the cherry on the top was after we had paid and were walking out, that very same lady walked past without saying ‘Thank you’ or ‘Bye’!! Although our lunch was great, the service was a letdown!!

Nice place but very chilly if sitting anywhere near the entrance. I think we sat at table 7. Disappointed to see what's a common trend at the moment - cutlery in a pot so everyone has to touch the eating end of knives and forks when selecting their own. Real pet hate of mine. Food, however, was well presented. It was also tasty and staff agreed too. Pretty must every time food was brought out the waitresses would be eating something. We could also see into the kitchen and staff were eating whilst preparing food as well.

My daughter booked a table and we were seated next to the children's 'play corner' just as requested. This was fun for our 3 yr old granddaughter. The food was good and quick to arrive, service was very friendly. We had been confused about the menu as it was a Sunday and the lunch meal options were on the board not the menu. The highchairs were a bit awkward to use and not really the right size for either grandchild. It was exceptionally hot on the Sunday and it might have been cooler if the door to the greenhouse had been kept closed? However we had a relaxing comfortable family friendly meal with yummy sorbet for pudding, followed by a walk round the very nice garden centre and visit to the farm shop.

We visited Green Pastures today for a birthday treat for my husband. Lovely friendly and welcoming staff, nice setting and a good selection of food and drinks. We thoroughly enjoyed it!! We ordered a prawn ciabatta and tuna jacket potato. Presented beautifully and very, very tasty. The coleslaw was especially scrummy! We ordered a portion of chips between us as well to share but not really needed - although we did finish them off as they were deliciously hot & crispy and so too good to leave them. Definitely well worth a visit and looking forward to next time already 😊

6 of us attended the special Indian Night last night. The food was amazing. Considering the restaurant was completely full the service was still very good. We all had different choices for mains and we're all equally impressed. The portion sizes of all the courses were generous. The starter was a sharing platter, I had a prawn curry which came with 2 sides followed by the moistest slice of cake with ginger ice-cream for desert. I'm not really a desert person but it was exceptionally delicious. Our first themed night attendance and it will not be the last - really impressed. We had such a great night. Definitely recommend

The place is really nicely done, looks great & has lovely chunky furniture. The specials board on the way in was full of lovely lunch options that I would seriously struggle to pick just one from!! The cakes at the counter looked so tasty & there is a huge selection of both hot & cold drinks to choose from. For breakfast we all opted for eggs benedict (all 5 of us!) & it was so tasty & cooked perfectly. We pre-ordered what we all wanted so waiting time was cut to a minimum, especially with 4 hungry diners, we could smell the wonderful aroma's of food as soon as we entered the establishment. We all thoroughly enjoyed what we each had chosen, lovely waiting staff and fantastic food, what more can I say, oh and the restaurant was fully booked so a lovely atmosphere as well. What an utter shame!! Have just returned from afternoon tea, we had to have a little moan due to staff shutting up shop around us etc. Which was dealt with by the staff member very well and she agreed with my points. When I got home the owner rang me to ask why I had not enjoyed my afternoon tea. After explaining the issues to him, I was met with a barrage of justifications with an undertone of sarcasm! In all honesty I do not think that I have ever encountered a phone call like it!! An utter disgrace. We buy vouchers for our customers to enjoy their afternoon tea which will stop immediately. The food was amazing, sandwiches with so many varieties of delicious fillings, something to please everyone! then the cakes/desserts, where do I start? so many lovely yummy things to choose from, we ended up taking doggy bags home as we couldn't finish them all. Only thing I would have preferred would have been the choice to have a cheese scone instead of a fruit one as the sweet outweighed the savoury selection, although the fruit scone with clotted cream and jam was lovely. Very impressed with the service throughout our visit from various members of the restaurant staff, even though we did have to give them a nudge to refill our teapots, will definitely be going back again.

We ate there for lunch on Friday, 1st of September, we both selected the daily special of lamb strips @£12.95. We had seen the crab salad on the table next to us and thought it very poor value. The meal arrived on large hot modern soup plates with a small depression in the middle, there was a large selection of boiled and saute potatoes at the bottom, fried chopped vegetables on top and then the strips of lamb topped again with thin crisped sweet potato all of which was a lot cooler than the plate. More effect than substance, the vegetables were greasy and I was lucky that my wife did not eat her potatoes so I filled up on those as I was still hungry

We have tried a couple of times before to try this restaurant but have found the car park full - which says a lot about how good it is. Tried again today, got our timing right, and were well rewarded for our persistence with a lovely lunch. The dishes all sounded great, imaginative without being trend-led. My husband opted for the Norfolk Ploughmans - never seen a Ploughmans like it, such a great variety of ingredients. I had the crab salad from the Specials Board - same comment - wonderful mix of items, all very tasty. We were also pleasantly surprised to find a good choice of craft beers, and at reasonable prices. The wine list looked inviting too. There was only one drawback - the portions were so generous that we had no capacity for one of the delicious-looking cakes afterwards! I am thinking of soup and cake/dessert next time, or maybe a scone followed by a cake .... but, then again, the choice of meals was so good - how to choose!!!We will definitely have to return.

After having seen previous photos of the Afternoon tea we were slightly disappointed to see we received no side salad, coleslaw or crisps as displayed in other trip-advisor's photos. Not sure if they had just missed this off or ran out. The scones were delicious and the sandwiches had plenty of filling. The downside was there were three of us and there were not three of each cake; such as there were only two pieces of carrot cake, 1 egg custard and 2 raspberry cheesecakes. Same with the sandwiches there were not three sandwiches with the same filling, which I think is disappointing. I liked the garden trug display it was served on, it fitted with the garden theme wonderfully, and we would return for lunch but wouldn't have the afternoon tea again.May I just mention the staff and service was outstanding, the ladies were very helpful and polite.

I have visited here a number of times since it has been open and it has always been amazing. There's a wide selection available including hot meals, snacks, cakes and children's meals. Their home made cakes and sausage rolls are so good. Service is always friendly too. It can get very busy but there are plenty of tables and a nice small outdoor area when it is warm. I have also had the afternoon tea and found this one of the best I have had-great selection of sandwiches, mini cakes and scones all wonderfully presented. Treated my mum and mother in law who both really enjoyed themselves. Wonderful place and so glad it is so close to where I live!

The garden centre is very good as is the farm shop!

We have been here 5 times and decided to try the fish night meal. It was absolutely fantastic and the owners/staff made this a night to remember. I'm a very fussy fish eater and this was as good as you can get. One of the party was concerned that the fish wouldnt be filleted as when he last had fish at another establishment he was unable to eat it due to the amount of bones. He was not disappointed and said it was the nicest fish he had eaten out. The wine was locally sourced and very reasonably priced (you can buy this wine front the farmshop)If you have a big appetite then please try the fish or meat platter.....doubt you will finish it.

I have been to the restaurant on so many occasions and every time it's been spot on.Booked a table at 2pm last Sunday for a roast for the first time. It was still very busy but as always the girls were efficient, friendly and welcoming. We were a group of 5 (including my daughter) and we all had different meats and we all agreed they were equally delicious. The lunches were served quickly. My daughter and I had the roast turkey which came with pigs in blankets, stuffing, roast potatoes, massive Yorkshire puddings and loads of vegetables. It was piping hot and as delicious as my mother in laws roast (and that's saying something). My daughter's portion was huge.It was definitely the best roast dinner I have ever had in a restaurant. Complete contrast to the awful experience I had a few weeks ago at the Waters Edge, Bramerton. See my other review. Without a doubt it was extremely good value for money and would recommend a visit. Keep up the brilliant work and fantastic quality food.PS - didn't even mention the superb deserts which I managed to force down.

This is a typical garden centre restaurant just outside Norwich. It's easy to get to and there's plenty of parking. The restaurant itself has a nice design, the menus are up on the walls and you order at the counter. I had a seafood platter which was nice but the ingredients didn't taste particular fresh, it included; roasted salmon, smoked salmon, a potato fish cake, smoked mackerel, white bate and some prawns, served with some potatoes, bread and salad. My boyfriend had a burger and he was much more impressed with that. I think it would have been better if there had been more vegetarian and pescatarian options available, as I was not too impressed with the choice available at the start. For dessert we shared a brownie but unfortunately there were a few small hairs on it - nothing too catastrophic and I would've been happy to leave the brownie but my boyfriend asked to swap for a shortcake which was also a bit bland.I don't want to sound too harsh because the staff here were very friendly and the atmosphere was nice, I would happily eat here again but I'm not in any particular rush to.

I had local Norfolk asparagus with poached egg, hollandaise sauce & pancetta, an amazing taste sensation. The restaurant was busy but it wasn't a long wait & the food tasted fresh & delicious !My husband had the burger ( unusual for him ) but having seen one served while we were waiting to order his mind was made up... Homemade coleslaw and wedges on the side, it was delicious all served on a lovely wooden platter. We had coffee and homemade carrot cake, plus a slice of millionaires shortbread to take home - I'm not sure how we managed to fit it all in but we did. Some lovely local beers & wine served, all very reasonable..We sat in the lovely sunny courtyard & you could have been abroad ! Highly recommended & the team there have definitely found a winning formula.Thank you all.

Have been to the restaurant six times now as it is not far away and have had excellent food but on this occasion I should have gone for the honey roasted ham.We went in early on Thursday lunchtime to try and avoid having to reserve a table and found a table round the back without any problem. Partner went up to order and come back with a pot of tea and coffee having ordered burger and handmade chips and a Goats cheese quiche. The food came with the burger on a wooden platter and the quiche on a standard plate. I prefer a clean plate with the food on.All looked very good and my other half enjoyed her goats cheese quiche with a side salad but as I was cutting into the burger she pointed out it was very pink in the middle (nearly all the insides and brown just on the outside) So got the waitress’s attention and told me that it was the colouring in the meat and was properly cooked throughout. My partner thought this was wrong having cooked hundreds of burgers at a charity bash. She took the food back and was very polite over the problem.Just on twenty minutes later she arrived with fresh food again and tucked into my new burger that was supposed to be well done, guess what! It was pink nearly all the way through this time. Waitress did offer a refund as we had paid up front for one meal but I did eat a portion in spite of my partner telling me to leave the burger alone. We were offered a slice of lemon meringue and a pot of tea to make up for the pink burger. Full marks to the waitress saving the day as we had been coming to the nursery for many years when our house was built and they delivered all the trees and saplings before the restaurant had been built.Partner’s meal was excellent but without standing in the kitchen and watching the meat being cooked on a hotplate very difficult to see how long it was heated up and what was in the meat to keep it pink? So just perhaps one of those off days with burgers which my other half is very fussy about after a nasty experience many years ago. They dealt with the problem in a professional manner and kept the customer happy.Because they are now so full up it is difficult on certain days to actually get in and be served so have gone down the road to a new little restaurant called Little PIgs at Aldis Farm Shop in Framingham Earl and get served straight away with excellent food. Far more intimate and no sound bouncing off the high barn roof ceiling when full.

Score 5 for the food, 0 for the fact you can't eat the food.We have visited for lunch or breakfast many times since the new restaurant opened, but it has become a victim of its own success. Today was the 3rd time in the last couple of months that we've turned up just after 12 on a Friday/Saturday lunchtime to find all the tables reserved. I'll book in advance for a special occasion, but this is more a "where do you fancy eating today" place, akin to a pub, not somewhere we'd make plans in advance to visit. It's a shame, as I think you are losing customers - we weren't the only ones today who looked in the turned round and left. We really do love the food, but it's not worth wasting petrol driving out from Norwich again on the off chance.

We popped in today for our first visit and after looking round the plants section we decided to stop for a coffee and cake. We all enjoyed the most amazing lemon meringue pie, with many others to choose from along with savoury options. Although I initially thought the price was a little high, I soon decided that the portion was generous and the quality was was well worth the money. It seems very popular and most of the tables had already been reserved for lunch so I would advise that if you require more than a morning coffee, to book a table so as to avoid disappointment, this also applies for afternoon tea. A number of lovely Full English breakfasts were being devoured around us and we most definately will be booking for next time.

The management were quick to put this right and by way of an apology booked us in for free. Couldn't fault it, the sandwiches were fresh and delicious the large scones were still warm and the cakes looked delicious but haven't eaten them yet, brought them home as too full! We visited for my daughters first birthday. The food was good and is served in large portions. The waitress serving us was very inexperienced, she had little to no idea where to sit us and has us running around the restaurant for around 15 minutes which was a little embarrassing, she then spilt coffee all over my other halfs chair, I didn't want to embarrass her further as she was flinging cups and vases filled with daffs everywhere so I mopped it up quickly (It was busy, she seemed very stressed!). The food is overpriced for what it is in my opinion. It is a garden centre not sure why you would pay £12.95 for scampi and chips. The cafe is child friendly with lots of spoons and high chairs, unfortunately some of the diners were not as child friendly and I did receive a few odd glances but that happens! Overall an OK visit.

We have been buying plants from the nursery for over twenty four years so it was a surprise to watch the new buildings going up at the front. Asked some friends in Brooke and told it will be a restaurant. We ventured in for roast beef rather late in the day and the food came out piping hot and very large portions of meat. No cutting down on quality or size here. The sweets were excellent with my pie and custard again first rate.Service from the young ladies including the owner with baby in hand was first rate and it is now our fourth visit for lunch. Getting fully booked up and a good idea to book a place at weekends. The only problem we see and hear is because the design is on a barn like structure the noise levels bounce of the roof and sides so that it gets like a public swimming pool when full. What is needed is some drapery around and on the walls to absorb the sound bouncing around and improve the ambiance of the place as a restaurant. That would give the restaurant a 10 out of 10.

We have visited here several times. Each time has been excellent. This is no ordinary restaurant attached to a plant nursery shown by the fact that tables need to reserved at lunchtime or there is no guarantee that you won't have to wait. The food is very reasonable priced and is just that bit different. For example, jacket potato with mushrooms and blue cheese. Both light lunches and full meals are served. Desserts and cakes look lovely but we've never had room for them! The setting is good. We cat recommend it enough for lunches.

The friendly and welcoming team at Green Pastures/Gardener's kitchen have done an amazing job in creating such a wonderful place. The ambience is very pleasant - light, airy and tastefully decorated and the food is mouth-wateringly scrumptious - all as fresh and as local as you can get! The breakfasts are a sure winner…..no better way to start the weekend and the coffee is again locally sourced and very very good….and don't even get me started on the huge selection of homemade cakes and desserts! And the roasts?….well worth booking a table in advance for as they are absolutely delicious and such great value. Additionally, we had the pleasure of eating there for their Valentine's evening special event last night; the special menu was well designed and the food simply fantastic….best 4 course meal we've eaten in ages. Visiting family nearby, we came for Sunday lunch, 5 adults and 4 children. There was a great choice of roasts - between us we had roast beef, pork, turkey, chicken and lamb! One of our party has a small appetite and asked for a children's portion which was no problem (not always the case at restaurants). Portions were generous, even the children's portions. The food came very quickly, service was extremely friendly and the meals tasted as good as they looked. All came with Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and roast carrots and parsnips and then dishes of green veg were brought out to serve yourself. There were some lovely looking cakes and desserts but unfortunately most of us were too full to try them. Those that did were impressed however. There is a wide choice of chilled soft drinks, hot drinks and alcoholic drinks. Prices were very reasonable for such good food. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable experience in a light and airy restaurant which was full throughout our visit. Will definitely be back next time we are in Norfolk!

Amazing family Sunday lunch today. South Norfolk (Specifically Brooke/Thurton/Alpington and surrounding area) has been lacking a good honest home cooked experience for some time. There are several local establishments that have sadly gone down hill rapidly over the past few years so when we heard the news that Michelle & James were building we looked forward to a local establishment to enjoy lunch when meeting family. The new building surpassed all expectations to be honest and looks great. We have visited now several times since the reopening last year and enjoyed some amazing meals. Having heard about the legendary "Sunday Roasts" we have been meaning to book for ages and today we finally made it. Family of 9, with Beef, Turkey, Lamb & Pork on the menu we sampled them all. Piles of think slices of your selected meat accompanied with your usual trimmings and some rare sighting for a restaurant, roast parsnips, cabbage, roast potatoes, sprouts, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli and more that I have forgotten. Personally I had the pork. Now generally for the price charged here Pork can be a gamble. Many local establishments has opted for the cheap mashed together boil it up and call it pork approach but not here. I swear I had half the pig on my plate with a big hunk of perfect crackling. The pork was tender and moist and bursting with flavour. My other guests said the same with their chosen delights. Ashamed I am to say we couldn't eat everything we were so stuffed. The homemade Yorkshire pudding were huge and just like we make at home (well almost, I have to say that). The huge selection of cakes and puddings tempted us all to follow up this feast with an equally satisfying pudding, again all homemade. Service is second to none I have to say. All of the staff are chatty and polite which has always been the case anyway at Green Pastures and despite expanding their staff numbers so much, standards are still high. It takes years to build up good staff like this and some businesses never achieve it so well done for achieving it so quickly. It's great to see a local business thrive and at these standards thrive it will. Booked for one of their event nights and can't wait to attend. I would definitely book to avoid disappointment but certainly the absolute best Sunday Roast in the area. Summery:Absolute value for money. There is not an establishment that could beat on price and quality. Spotlessly clean with a great atmosphere. Lovely staff Homemade using local produce. What more could you want.Yesterday we popped in for a snack and I bought 2 slices of a homemade custard tart to take away. Perfection, I ordered an entire tart today for the office next week. Yesterday we ordered a sausage roll and coffee. Sausage roll was delightful. Huge thick sausage meat surrounded in a thin layer of perfect pastry. The coffee is a good coffee too. We have sampled several meals now as I said earlier and I love the local homemade ethos. The menu changes regularly depending on the season but everything is tip top fresh. This is not a garden centre cafe, this is a pleasant dining experience run by very talented chefs. I want to marry your baker (if I wasn't married already). Well done guys.

Found the cafe purely by accident, on the High Street, stopping in Loddon for something to do on a rather autumnal day. You will find it near to the take away and funeral services, but don't let that deter you...So glad we popped in! Wide choice of cakes and some savouries, including vegan and/or gluten free. Huge pot of tea! Pretty tea room, very well equipped single toilet. Family affair, mother and two daughters bake everything on site. Long chat with lovely Lisa, so enthusiastic about their business. We only tasted a quiche and blackberry cake, but goodness, so delicious, and if a hint of other produce from their fine hands, well worth a further visit or cake order. Apparently mum Julie runs craft classes upstairs too.. talented family. We wish you continued success and will hopefully see you next holiday.
