Sunday lunch disappointing. Waited a long time to be served a ridiculously noisy back bar area. Crammed in with another table. Front bar or restaurant would have been better. Food was disappointing small portion for Sunday lunch standard size and hardly any vegetables. My food came and was replaced by this time my partner had almost finished hers. The wait was what seemed for ever. I seldom loose my cool or get frustrated my meal came back with the wrong one. It was sorted out eventually by the house keeper/manager professionally. Hopefully a one off I have excellent meals here in the past just went wrong today. I would recommend getting there early not mid afternoon. Having drive from York I was hoping to have a good experience it just did not happen today .

We called into the pud for a drink on the way to our lodging and booked an evening meal for the following night.Good job we booked the place was busy. Nice ambiance in the bar area and very friendly landlord and staff. I had tempura soft shell crabs followed by cow cheek, my wife had beetroot followed by venison steaks. We both finished off with crumble. All the food without exception was delicious. Looking forward to our next visit.

We had stayed at the pub previously and been very impressed. This time we visited for dinner twice during our 3 night stay at our cottage across the road. We ate in the bar area which was very busy, and enjoyed dog watching! The food was as good as ever and a special mention for the sauces on the mains- the cheery sauce on the duck and the Diane on the chicken were exceptional. I must also mention the house red wine which is gorgeous! Prices are reasonable for the quality of food. All the staff were friendly and the service was good. We were even served by Annalise on the Saturday night. She and her team do a fantastic job and it’s lovely to see such a successful business in a small village location.

Just had a delicious Sunday Lunch today 25/8 at the Fauconberg Restaurant in the quaintest village of Coxwold. We were greeted and served by the loveliest of staff who made sure we were happy diners, and indeed we were. We have passed the restaurant many times on our holidays in Yorkshire and are wishing we had visited before now. More than happy to recommend to other hungry travellers, just make sure to book before you go. We particularly enjoyed our H20….!😉 if you know, you know!

Excellent from start to finish. Welcomed at the door and guided to our seats in the very comfortable dining room. Service was pleasant and friendly and efficient. The steak pie was truly magnificent. A full coating (top and bottom) of short crust pastry and jammed full of rich and tender beef. Genuinely one of the best pies I’ve ever had. Three real ales on tap (I think) had the Rudgate Jorvik which was very pleasant. Prices very sensible for the quality and portion size. The pie was £16 and I’m glad I didn’t have a starter. Three of us shared a large and delicious sticky toffee pudding for dessert. On warmer days the garden is lovely with really special views.

The Fauconberg managed to fit us in on what was an extremely busy lunch time, which highlighted just how popular the place is. We had fish and chips and roast beef which were delicious.Large portions and half portions were also available too if you didnt have a large appetite or perfect for children .There was also a good gluten free selection too. I followed with a yummy portion of sticky toffee pudding and ice cream.Dogs are also allowed in the bar area which is great. All in all I would highly recommend eating here and hope to return one day

Hi,last night 6 of us attended the pub for a meal for my 60th birthday in the restaurant. I've been several times in the past and decided to come here as its such a good venue . However.....we all arrived at 7pm ,the pub to be fair wasnt particularly busy nor was the restaurant, we were seated and had an very good meal and drinks, but the restaurant was cold ,I was sat next to a radiator which was stone cold, the ladies put there coats on during the meal as they were cold. After the meal we decided to go back into the bar where we thought it would be warmer,to our dismay it wasn't,the bar was totally empty, which I was surprised to see on a Friday night ,the time was about 915pm but the fire was no longer lit ,we asked if it could be ,but was told it had stoked up for the night and that was that. The 6 of us sat with our coats on ...we asked about the other bar which had a fire but was told we couldn't sit in there as it has been set up for breakfast. We were then told we could still buy drinks but they wanted to cash up the till,so we paid for our food and earlier drinks (£300,which was to be fair good value for the food and drinks we had),we bought some more drinks and sat in the cold bar ,couldn't see any bar staff,so drunk up and went home ,leaving the pub before 10pm. We felt they just wanted to close up early!! Once outside it was pitch black there were no outside pub lights on so we had to use our phone torches to negotiate the cobbles. The whole evening was a bit of a damp cold squib, yes the food was good but really nothing else was ,please please consider your customers, even if the pub is quiet ,and maybe make them feel more welcome, Chris P

Years ago, I wrote up my favourite bar in Venice. Schoolboy error. It was another five years before I managed to secure a table again,. So I am reluctant to share this secret with you, but it is only fair on the great team that run it to keep it busy. It is a virtuous circle, of benefit to all. It is not, however, a place for woke townies. Go see, sample and adopt; this is a very special place.

We had two excellent meals here during our stay nearby. The quality of the food was excellent with a great choice on the menu. The dining room was well appointed and comfortable. The service was warm and friendly and we were made to feel very welcome. We were delighted to learn that local chef, Mark Westaby, who served us "meals on wheels" during our Yorkshire holiday stay in 2020 was now in the kitchen here. We should have guessed as his food is always top quality. Highly recommended.

A super Sunday lunch. Roast beef cooked to perfection. Pork loin with lots of crunchy crackling. And the biggest whale this side of Whitby - ok it was battered Haddock, with chips and mushy peas. Brilliant. The olde world restaurant was a fine back drop to our three generational family lunch which tasted even better because Granddad paid. Only niggle were the very hard carrots left by each of the five roast eating guests. No biggy and we mentioned it when asked. I do have a theory though as to why the carrots were on the very crunchy side and that is I am sure they are given to local horses as there are, I am told, a number of staff members who ride. Lucky horses. In summary... sounds like the conclusion to an essay as I type... the F' is a fine restaurant, with excellent friendly staff. Would we return? You bet we would.

When we arrived, several members of staff were behind and near the reception desk, when they saw us walk in, they all moved into the kitchen, leaving us waiting at the desk unattended while they continued with their chat. Re the food: not enough gravy, quite dry. Not enough vegetables, too much potato, roasties too big and a bit undercooked in the middle. Very good dessert, sticky toffee pudding was excellent. Lots of flies in dining room/bar area. Staff seem to lack any great customer service skills, mostly the service was without eye contact or any pleasantries. We ordered a bottle of still and a bottle of sparkling water. We were left with a jug of tap water with no explanation (we later found out by asking that you do not have bottled still water). Staff can make or break a business where customer service is crucial to the experience. The staff at the Fauconberg really need to brush up on this!

Menu is very simple, and everything looked delicious.Local beers and cider on draught. We both opted for the fish and chips, and were NOT disappointed, I asked for new potatoes though, and they were fine with that. The fish was light and flaky, and the homemade tartare sauce was just delicious.Really warm and friendly atmosphere! And the bonus, was that my husband discovered there was an English Heritage site just up the road, so we had a little look around an old Monastery too.All in all, a lovely village and a great pub. Both mains (specials) were excellent and there were two spotless plates at the end. We finished off sharing a sticky toffee pudding. The food was to a very high standard - we couldnt fault anything. I am sorry to have to give this restaurant a poor review it is mainly regarding the lack of Covid safety measures The food and services was Ok!! Other than the young server telling us that some of the specials could either be starters or mains which when ordering was not the case The main issue we had there were no consideration for the covid regulations, social distancing between tables was non existent my chair was so close to the one on another table it was touching at one point and when moving around there was no consideration from staff One final point the art in the male toilets although interesting was not appropriate for a family restaurant The place is obviously popular but so are other places that space tables to comply with covid regulations rather than put profit over customer safety I suggest if you are considering eating at the Fauconberg you wait till restrictions are lifted and Covid is under control

This little place was a gem of a find. The village was beyond quaint with bus stop signs hailing from the 50/60s and the building directly across from the pub dating from the late 1800s. The pub itself dates from the 1700s and looked gorgeous from the outside. We didn’t have a need to go inside as we sat at a table outdoors since the weather was so good!We turned up without a booking after driving from York especially to visit and they were fantastic in accommodating us. We should have booked ahead and I would recommend doing that as it was a busy place. We both had pie and chips which were delicious. The chips and pie were both homemade served with a generous helping of gravy! However, me and my sweet tooth absolutely adored the sticky toffee pudding. The Fauconberg Arms Sticky Toffee Pudding can put a 5 red star resort’s, which is local to me, pudding to shame! It’s a bit out of the way but very much worth the drive and visit! Thanks again for squeezing us in at short notice!

We visited for a meal having driven past many times and thought it looked nice. Our drinks arrived and our order was taken promptly. Our starters arrived quickly and were both very nice, the presentation of them was also good. I had chosen the prawn and avocado and my partner the black pudding scotch egg. Unfortunately the main courses were not to the same standards. We waited over 40 minutes after our starters which is too long. The table next to us received their food having ordered it after we had finished our starters. I did speak to the proprietor who argued they had ordered prior to our starters and that she was short staffed as one chef was not in, it was also busy. Whilst I understand these issues impact the level of service, I do feel that as a customer my experience shouldn’t be effected by such a delay in service, nor did I appreciate feeling as though I shouldn’t be complaining. The main courses were very average, we ordered scampi and chips which came exactly as described. (I could have produced better at home, as I’m sure both were frozen products) My partner ordered the special steak which had been heavily cooked in garlic butter, as had the mushrooms and tomatoes. We like garlic but this was too much! We didn’t stay for dessert. Unfortunately a disappointing Saturday evening when trying somewhere new to us and frustrating when we know of an exceptional establishment just 1 mile down the road.

The pub in this beautiful village is just so lovely, the staff welcoming and friendly too, despite all the horrid restrictions we are all living under. We all chose different meals and loved our choices but also felt we would have also chosen each others! We visited for Sunday lunch last week-end. We had high hopes after reading a review in the York Press but alas it did not deliver. The Beef and Yorkshire pudding were very good but everything else was passable. Th roast potatoes we large and hardly roasted , the mash was gluey, the veg were nearly raw ( we like al dente but not raw). We did not even recognise the leeks at first, they were a strange colour and what I think was cheese sauce on them was watery. We were very disappointed. We were sat in the bar at the back, where there was 3 dogs, as we didn't have a dog this was not very pleasant. The two on the next table to us were sat watching me eat, I know the owners are responsible for them but why put us in that room. Altogether not a good experience.

We precooked a table over the phone and on arrival was told no booking had been received? We were offered a table outside but was then moved inside for another party and was told it was due to them prebooking but not eating? After being moved indoors we waited 30 minutes for a menu to be then told by the waitress that she can not say when she was going to be able to take our food order (AS SHE WAS DEALING WITH PATRONS WHO HAD PREBOOKED)!!! We were made to feel so uncomfortable after an hour and 20 minutes still no food and basically being ignored we settled our drinks bill and stated we were not prepared to wait any longer? To be then handed our food reciept and told our food would be out shortly without any apologises from staff regarding wait time etc Therefore we declined to wait any longer and cancelled our food and left! Felt very disappointed from the whole experience we were visiting the area and booked in advance due to the restaurant being recommended to us ? Would strongly avoid going here if you are a visitor and not a local!! ADDITIONALLY WE WERE NOT ASKED FOR ANY COVID 19 TRACK AND TRACE INFORMATION AND BASICALLY PROVES JUST HOW WE WERE IGNORED FROM START TO FINISH !! Another pub doing its best to keep pace with the Covid guidance but also serving some excellent food. Table for 4 came to £85 for two courses and drinks so good value. The Pork Chop was outstanding and the wife’s steak was perfectly cooked. The pizza could do without the salad topping (or serve the dressing on the side so you can remove if you wish) and maybe an option for smaller pizzas for kids to go alongside the other half portion options available would be good but still welcoming for families and serving a very nice pint too.

Party of four on a Monday lunchtime. Menu is quite basic but there was plenty of nice sounding specials on the blackboard. 3 of us wanted the steak and ale pie but they had run out so opted for the mince and onion on the specials board. One gammon as well. The pie was good but a lot smaller than the steak pie that the other table were eating. We asked for chips instead of mash and they were fine. The mushy peas were nice. Our friend having the gammon said it was nice. The Theakstons beer was the best part of our visit-very well kept. Service was good and there was enough people in to create a decent atmosphere. Disregard the negativity is my advice to you!Welcome - exceptionally friendly. Food choice- fantastic (try all the specials! We did). Chose to have lunch here as we were meeting friends. Service was a little off - we had a table booked but had to go to the bar to order all drinks, another table asked to see the wine list only to be told that the bottles are on the shelf at the side of the bar. My potted duck starter was very nice but the venison (a little dear ;-) at 18 quid) was tough as old boots and certainly did not appear to have been freshly cooked, in addition to the very poor and overpriced venison, our friend's burgers were very dry although my wife enjoyed her pasta. Disappointing as we had all travelled a fair distance to eat here, the standard of the food certainly did not live up to the excellent beer and beautiful village setting.

Came here on a Saturday night for birthday and was not disappointed. Friendly drinks bar, eating area and finer dining room. Had a nice cosy drink in the bar before and after dinner. Service was brilliant, food was great and at reasonable prices. Would definitely recommend as a slightly cheaper alternative to the Durham ox a village over. Will be back

The setting is stunning and the cask beer was well kept. The menu was basic but executed nicely. We all enjoyed our food Anne the children’s menus were up there amongst the best. The ham was brilliant and clearly locally sourced. The biggest problem for me was the older lady working there who was at best, brusque and at worst, rude. She did nit make us feel welcome or valued. The chap was much friendlier.

We were there for lunch, so I can’t comment on the accommodation. It’s a nice and friendly place, but don’t go there just for the food, which I found very plain. Nothing wrong with it, but it was somewhat unimaginative, the sort of meal that won’t upset anyone, but on the other hand will not tempt you to make a big detour either.

We visited on a Sunday evening and thankfully booked a table. The pub was very busy, mainly with locals. The village of Coxwold is beautiful and would a walk around. The menu offered quite a bit of choice with a variety of starters and mains. We chose Pork Belly and soup of the day to start followed by Lasagne and duck. The food was excellent and very tasty. We couldn't manage a pudding, but there was a good choice.

We visited in October 2018 - I rated it excellent but forgot to complete the review - so here it is. Brilliant food. We stayed in the village for a few days and ate here twice. The second night we were greeted like old friends. Lovely relaxed atmosphere with a mix of locals and tourists.

Didn't eat but had drinks sitting outside on a sunny evening. The place is a proper village pub and many locals clearly enjoy the atmosphere. It's a good place to relax in and soak up the Yorkshire vibes.

Have eaten here a few times now when we have been staying in the area. The food is good quality and reasonably priced. My partner always has the Steak & Ale Pie which he enjoys so much. The pub has a lovely atmosphere and we have always been made welcome by the locals. A visit is highly recommended.

We booked a room at last minute as a quick get away. Checked in and the four poster room was lovely, crooked as expected of a building of this age but most importantly clean. Village location is beautiful. All staff made us very welcome. I was worried at first it might be the sort of place where we may be interrupting the daily lives of the locals. Nothing could be further from that. Everyone was friendly and met some lovely people and enjoyed a night a varied conversations. Food was good and breakfast hit the spot, all very relaxed. Will most definitely be returning and would recommend a visit to anyone.

An olde worlde Restaurant / Pub that hit the spot. We called for lunch without a reservation but found a table for four. We did expect someone to come to our table to take drinks order but finding this didn’t happen, we received friendly service at the bar. There was a very reasonable menu, complemented by a Specials Board. Service was prompt and friendly and the food was plentiful and well presented. A good dining experience - well worth a visit to this picturesque village.

We called in to this pub for lunch last week and the ham, eggs and "proper" chips hardly touched the side. Served hot by very friendly staff. I wasn't too keen on the pub cat lying on the seat next to me asleep, but I'm not a cat lover.

A lovely pub with real fires and a pub cat. Friendly staff and locals. Great atmosphere. Delicious food and some meals offer half portions which was just the right size for us. the full portion looked massive. I had battered haddock and hand cut chips and the fish was tasty. the batter was crisp, light and not greasy. I would definitely eat here again, great value for money and a lovely atmospheric local pub.

An old inn, with rooms, in a nice village. We only had a small lunch but everything was right - the food, friendly staff, relaxing surroundings, and the cat! We were only passing through the village so had no prior plans to visit but are pleased we stopped. Next time we visit the area we would like to stay at The Fauconberg.

We popped in the Fauconberg for sunday lunch and found it to be quite busy, there were plenty of staff on hand to serve and the food was nice without being exceptional and slightly on the dear side for what we had, on leaving all the staff we had seen earlier seemed to have disappeared and we had a delay settling the bill but overall a pleasant sunday lunch.

Owen hosted our wedding reception. Lovely family do (7 bridesmaids and 3 pageboys between 5 and 10) with an outside BBQ. Happy for us to put up a bouncy castle. Really relaxed feel. We put up gazebos in case it rained so we could cover an outside area to seat 48. We had a band inside later. Room to dance. Couldn’t have asked for more.
