The three senior members of my family, who went for a meal, remember the Farms Arms over the years as being an extremely good place to eat. We were also accompanied by my two grangs sons. The food was ordered. Nothing was heard for more that 30 minutes when he was asked by the waitress did he wish to have his garlic bread before the main coures. He stated yes and were were told our food was only a couple of minutes away. The food finaly arrive 45 minutes after ir had been ordered. I had ordered fish and chips. The food was cold and been served on a cold plate. My son in law's burger and chips was also served cold. My of my grandson's burger arrived with no sight of the second one. I and my son in law took our meals back and they were taken from us but no member of staff informed us what was to happen. My second grandson's burger arrived. They stated that the meals were poor tasteing and unappitising. My son in law's meal and mine were represented. His described his as rubbish. My own meal was the worst I had had in a pub/restaurent, but I had to eat some because I am diabetic. My own meal was just more than luke warm, with the fish poorly battered and very greasy. The chips were only just warm and the peas were a mixture of over cooked and undercooked one. No member of the management approached us to ask about our experience. No one was interested.

The food and atmosphere was great . However I was extremely disappointed in the rewards app which simply doesn’t work. I had 6/6 points on my rewards app which meant I should have been given a free meal . However it didn’t work and I had to pay full price. I feel cheated so I don’t feel I would recommend to friends and family

VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! Needs total refurb and re-staffing. Waited over half an hour to be served a child’s meal. The rest of us were having a carvery. When we queued up to be served, there was no one around to slice the meats for a while. Then when the server did appear, we were told that we had been given a receipt for a Sunday carvery and had been overcharged by £3.00 each!! We then had to re- queue at the bar for a refund. Back at the carvery, queued again to be served. Turkey nice, beef very fatty and chewy. Didn’t try the gammon. Veg ok, but carrots undercooked and hard. Furniture VERY tatty and torn. Tables could do with sanding down and varnishing/painting as also very tatty and lopsided. Outside needs repainting as also looking tired and tatty. Plenty of free car parking. Needs more staff to clear away/clean tables, and to serve behind bar to save long queues. Very disappointing, and probably won’t go again, despite it being very local. Has gone down hill.

On arrival we could see how the building had deteriorated from our last visit 12 months ago. Paint peeling off and just generally run down. Meal was nothing special. Just ok. Not impressed with the seating area. Dirty windows and sticky table. Carvery was limited and the food was warm rather than hot. Won't be visiting again.

The food was amazing and came out super fast. When ordering, the lady at the till got flustered and confused easily so it took quite a while to order. Unfortunately the building needs some attention. The ceiling was leaking, the ladies toilets were out of order, the walls looked like they needed redone. Next time we go, we'll be ordering takeaway.

The car park was very busy and this being my first visit my expectations were raised. I was looking forward to this, I’m thinking this must be very good to be this busy on a Thursday at 6:30pm. However, that’s where my high expectations were sadly left, in the car park. I was expecting the warm welcome as described in this establishments write up, it was none existent, I did not get one. Our table was booked for 6:30pm and had been booked a week or two in advance so they were expecting us, we were told it would be ready shortly, however, we did not get seated until 7pm 30 minutes late, at a very wet sticky table not pleasant at all, there was 10 of us in our group. We were looking forward to a lovely carvery as promised on your website but on waking past there was nothing but a scraggly peace of beef and a dried out bit of gammon left on it and this was at 7pm; it just looked sad and rather messy. So we all decided on what we wanted thinking they would refresh the carvery, I ordered a burger as the carvery looked so unappealing. On arrival at the bar to order we find out they did not have half of what we wanted and that the carvery was not being refreshed, as they had a special offer on and had run out; this we were not informed of prior to booking or on arrival, again not very warm or welcoming ! So you can imagine our disappointment and frustration of being at a carvery pub that had almost no carvery left, ironic to say the least. So back to the table to take new orders by the time we got food it was 7:50pm almost 1.5 hours after arrival just completely unacceptable. As a Chef and consultant chef of over 30 years experience at multi million pound establishments, I just found this quite embarrassing for the establishment, after all, If you know you’re going to be busy then you prepare for it to avoid customer dissatisfaction and complaints. However, it was very clear, abundantly so, that this establishment was completely unprepared for the business that they received that evening, totally overwhelmed and majorly understaffed. You would think that this was enough to tolerate but there is more. One of our tables meals did not come out with the others as apparently they had not cooked enough chips for our orders. So they left her burger on the side to get cold while they cooked her more chips, she went to collect her own food off them as she did not understandably want a cold burger, over 10 minutes later a small bowl of chips arrived. The food itself was ok nothing special in any way quite basic and plain pub grub. A few of us decided to have a desert. Can you guess what’s coming ! They did not have the desert I wanted, so I chose another Sunday that came out and even that had bits missing from it, I did not complain as by this time I did not see the point and was quite fed up of the catalogue of discrepancies. What I will say the polite way is, that poor preparation leads to poor performance and you were extraordinarily poorly prepared for that evening, dining out should be an easy, pleasurable, relaxed experience and this could not have been further from that, very much a case of all frills and no knickers scenario, just embarrassing quite frankly. Never in all of my years as a chef have any of my guests had an experience such as this, I would not have had work if they did. Thank you for making our evening together a rather disappointing one especially for the person who organised it, as she felt partly responsible for booking it but this is Squarely your fault not hers.

We had booked a table for 10 for 6.30 didn’t get seated until 7 . We wanted Carvery but a dried up bit of beef and gammon didn’t cut it for us . So we decided to order from the menu . Didn’t have any quite a few items that we wanted . We waited an hour for the food , one person who ordered an above and beyond burger didn’t get it with the other meals so went to find out what was happening with it . To see the burger on the side they didn’t have enough chips so was cooking some more but the burger was going cold. The onion rings were cremated as per pic . Ordered some pudding no cookies available but could have waited 15 minutes for them to be cooked. So all in all a very disappointing experience . For some of us this was the first time to this restaurant. I think it will be my last !

Not a nice experience, unfortunately! Visited for the first time on Sunday for the carvery. Like other reviewers, our first impression was just how run-down everything looked. The place just felt dirty as well. Apart from the colleague greeting and seating customers, the staff looked thoroughly miserable and were quite unfriendedly. Food was very underwhelming. Beef was tough, stuffing was dried out and virtually inedible, the small selection of vegetables were luke warm bordering on cold. The gravy resembled brown water and was thoroughly unpleasant. Will not return and really couldn't recommend the place to anyone, sorry!

We have visited the Farmers Arms many times over the past few years ( party of 4) and the standards are getting worse on a weekly basis. The condition of the restaurant both externally and internally is very poor and the men's toilets ( not seen the ladies) is disgusting with constant leaks in various areas including cubicles and generally very very tatty. The food quality is not good and at peak times they keep running out of food in the self service area. The staff are generally friendly but there doesn't seem enough of them to ensure customers get a good service. The company has let the property fall into disrepair which is such a shame as it is in a nice area. If it doesn't address these problems soon it will lose a lot of customers

Booking 28/11/2023. My Cousin was down from France. So we booked a family meal before he was heading back home on the Friday. We booked a table for 11 of us. We have previously been to The Farmers Arms and the food and Service have always been great. The Table was booked for 6.00 we all ordered food and all decided to go for the Carvery. The Service was fine we all got our food and sat down to eat - The Food was terrible the roast potatoes were rock hard the Mash was all lumpy and hard the Veg was hard like it had been left out all day. My brother and Auntie both were dentures and were unable to eat the food due to it being so hard. It was the worst meal we have ever had. I was going to complain at the time but the pub was busy and did not want to make a fuss. Its a shame because it has put me off from returning. I felt embarrassed that i had taken my family out for food that was so terrible that most of us were unable to eat it.

The have was grisly , the turkey tasteless and the veg over cooked and been there for ages.Went to a top restaurant the night before and didn't pay much more.Everywhere else was busy and we thought there were very few cars there and now I know why .....also a lot more expensive because it was Bank Holiday.....no other pubs or restaurants do this as I know of.To top it all the lady chef rpthat carved our meat was the most arrogant person I think I've ever met serving the public.

We've been coming here for years and I've written two reviews previously. We called in today having not been for a few months. I'm pleased to report that the place seems to be getting better all the time. Granted, it was quiet so the tables were all cleared and clean, but the general appearance of the place seemed better and looked more cared for. The young lady at the bar was very friendly, it makes such a difference when you get a good first impression. Food was, as usual, very good with plenty of choice and the meats very tasty, especially the turkey, as good as I've ever tasted ! They've added a few new items to the menu such as Ham & Eggs and Ribs and also new pudding items. Prices also seemed to have been trimmed ? standard carvery under £5 which is offers excellent value for money and for under £6 you can make it two courses !! Nice that within a couple of minutes of finishing our meals, a pleasant young waitress came over to clear our plates and asked if we would like to order any puddings. Please keep up the good work

Went this morning for breky (3rd of July), around 9am ordered two breakfasts and a 2 drinks so far so good. Needed a spoon for the decaf coffee there was none out so asked the blonde lady at the bar she snapped back at me (there wooden stirring things on that table) she said. I was thinking wow I only asked for a spoon. I explained I need a spoon for the decaf coffee to spoon it out of the jar, she passed me a spoon. Got my breakfast made some toast my wife asked for another plate the blonde lady kept her back to my wife and responded saying that we hadn't paid for the child so wouldn't be getting another plate and she had already supplied side plates (my wife didn't respond and we had used the side played for sauces and tea bags and our little boy was playing in the toy area and already had his breakfast at home) The food is average at best but we been many times before and it's £12 for two brekys and two hot drinks so can't crumble, but I must point out the breakfast was not enjoyed by both me and my wife because the service was shocking we will not be going back. If something is cheap doesn't mean it has to be below standard service wise.

Just been to the Farners Arms for a carvery. We went at 3pm and it was me and my Husband. Ordered a fish carvery and a standard carvery and two drinks. The ale was off and undrinkable. We got to the food and we had to wait for the carverm to get there. When she arrived, the people in front ordered gammon and all that was left was a lump of fat. My Husband ordered the gammon and she dumped the lump of fat on his plate. Upon telling her this she said the gammon would be out in 5 minutes. He got something else and then we went to get the veg. The stuffing was empty and when I told her this she told me to scrape it off the bottom. When I refused she said there wasnt anymore as it was in the oven cooking. The peas and sweetcorn where shriveled up and inedible. The only thing we could eat was the carrots and roast potatoes. Everything else was dried up or there was none of them. The sauces station was just as bad. No tartre sauce and no cranberry sauce. In all it was a bad experience. We was there 20 minutes and after she said 5 minutes for the gammon it still wasnt ready upon leaving. We used to be regular visitors to this place but upon this visit we will not be going again.

This was all for the wonderful price of £4.29 each. Perhaps a choice of scrambled eggs as an alternative to fried eggs as my friend doesn't each the fried eggs, and think other people may prefer a choice??The food was cooked to perfection, and i just didn't want it to end! Busy even on a Tuesday lunchtime. Carvery very good in terms of quality and value. Downside is if you don't order the free starter that comes with meals from the standard menu when you order the main courses they charge you for it if you go back later with your selection. This is wrong as you don't know what dessert you want sometimes until after you've had your main. Why didn't the waitress tell us this at point of ordering? Ruined the experience which is a shame because generally it was good

We (my wife any myself) know the Farmers Arms very well, having visited it on many occasions for both breakfast and dinner. In this case, we called in for an evening meal at around 5.45pm in mid week and found the place moderately busy.Tables were free and for some reason, we had to wait for a few minutes at the servery for a chef to appear. Meat was than served but the veg was poorly presented with serving spoon handles being dirty and veg 'overspill' in evidence in a few places. Some of the veg wasn't that warm either. As usual, I had the ice cream for pudding and when I went for the bowl, I was totally ignored by a barman who thought that I was trying to queue jump! I had to speak up and say that all I wanted was a bowl!At the ice cream machine, the chocolate sauce container was nearly empty but I just got enough out of it.I know that this type of restaurant sits firmly in the budget eating category but that's no excuse for the way that this restaurant's being run at present. More care needs to be taken on presentation (around the serving station in particular) and staff need to be reminded that customers are their lifeblood.I'll be eating in the USA very soon and for much the same price, I'll be getting much better treatment. Their presentation techniques are far superior as well.

Sounds good value but is it? You order at the bar and get given and empty coffee cup, even if you are having tea! You help yourself to unlimited tea or coffee. The only problem is no one is monitoring the hot water urn or the milk, so then you have to go and ask for water etc.The breakfast...pretty much the same again. You start getting the breakfast and then realise there are no eggs. They used to do scrambled eggs but it is pot luck whether there is any or not. By the time the items which have run out are restocked your breakfast is cold. So is the cup of tea you made before you went for your breakfast. If someone took the time to monitor the above, it would be good value but there is pretty much a can't be bothered attitude. On our visit there was also no staff behind the bar to order and we had to shout through the kitchen door as the queue was to the door. Very badly managed which is a shame. Get some tea cups of mugs and stop giving coffee cups too! The general place is looking very tired. There are lots of lovely places nearby to have breakfast so they need to get their act together. I would visit again but I wouldn't rush back.

I've visited this establishment many times as it's close to home and offers good value. However, on this visit, I found the choice and quality of items somewhat lacking. The bacon was overdone as were the fried eggs (there was no other choice) and all of the items appeared to have been on the hot plates for a while. It was 10am in the morning so they'd probably say that I should have come a little earlier to catch it fresher!I do wonder if this sort of operation can continue. Would it not be better to offer freshly cooked beakfasts as local garden centres do?

We visit here every couple of months for a cheap eat. The food isn't of the best quality but then it is less than £5 for a carvery including all you can eat veg and potato and once it's all covered in gravy it tastes decent enough! The pub itself is in desperate need of a makeover. It's very dated and looks a little dirty with stains on the carpets and tables. The toilets are poor with holes in the carpet, broken locks on the doors and paint chipping off. This isn't a bad place to visit if you're looking for a cheap, quick fill but I certainly wouldn't visit here for a special occasion or if you're trying to impress!

Visited this pub at around 7-30pm on Tuesday. It was not very busy and we had no trouble parking our car or finding a table. We were not sure just how things worked but managed to deduce that you have to purchase a ticket at the bar then go to the carvery station. It must have been a bit of a slack time as the meat didn't look its best and the sausages on display were wrinkled and had taken on a strange colour.I settled for turkey with half a mind to get some training in with Christmas being just a few months away.I need not have worried that it looked a little dry as you don't get so much of it!My OH had the beef. There was a good variety of veg. but looked as if it had been stood for a while. It seemed a little better after a good stir and there was plenty of it.After starting to eat our meal it soon became evident that the serving spoons were hotter than the food itself. It was at best lukewarm, and the roast potatoes (were they roasted?) were very dry and flowery. We eat most of it and settled for the ice cream desert. To actually get an ice cream it entails another visit to the bar queuing up yet again to get a glass. This is then taken to a machine to fill. Beware! While you are at the machine you are liable to lose your drinks to an over eager waiter who is looking to break all records for clearing tables.Yep! We returned after getting our ice cream, to find our drinks had been taken away, the table wiped and set up ready for the next customers!Another pub meal to put down to experience!

We visited with our youg grandchildren after a day out, on arrival we found a table and after waiting I approached a member of staff and was told to order from the bar.The wait for food was around 20 minutes and when you got to the carvery they only had a limited choice available, they kept running out of food constantly. The beef was that tough it could have been used to re sole shoes, I was asked by a member of staff if had enjoyed my meal, when I said the beef was tough, she said she, would tell the chef, I would still be waiting for a reply, as we left I overheard other people complaining but it seemed to be falling on deaf ears. The attitude of the staff was overall very poor, only the guy who was serving the carvery seemed to be trying his best but was getting no help from any of the other staff. There was no leadership or management whatsoever.I have filled in an online review with the Crown Carveries, I still await a reply but doubt very much I will get one.

Food wise the Farmers Arms provides a good value for money carvery and pub food. For a few quid you can typically expect a genius portion of turkey, beef and/or pork from the carvery, and the ability to overload your plate with veg to your hearts content. The Farmers also provides a good value buffet style breakfast, although typically you will have to ask the staff to make you some eggs and then hope another patron doesn't steal them from the counter before you have chance to get them. The Farmers Arms is what is is, a low budget carvery, in that regard it meets expectations well, so you cannot have any complaints that it doesn't provide good value for money and a filling meal, certainly a lot healthier than a McDs meal which is at a similar price, but you just wouldn't take a hot date for a meal there.

A friend and I visited The Farmers Arms for lunch on 31st July; each ordering the carvery. We then had to stand waiting for the carver of the meat to appear. Quite a few minutes later, after we had spoken to the bar staff twice to explain we were still waiting, he appeared with no apology. The meat was okay, but the potatoes were burnt (charcoaled in fact) and stuffing appeared to be from a few days earlier. All of which was cold.Enough gravy for one plate of food was also there for us to share.I have also visited the carvery at Pig & Whistle from the same chain, and it is very clear why one is always busy, and the other had half a dozen people in.Will not be visiting again.

We have visited this restaurant regularly, for Sunday lunch and the last few times, we have gone, the food hasn't been that good quality (always running out of meat). It is a carvery on a sunday, with allegedly 4 choices of meat, however there is always 1 or 2 missing.....our girls are 13-14 and we asked for a childs meal (as they only like a small portion, but the girl behind the bar who was taking the orders, said they were not allowed the childs portion, as they were over 10, so we had to pay full adult price for them to have 2 piece of meat and a small portion of veg....we also had an elderly lady (82yrs old), who has a small appetite, which we also paid full adult price for. The lady who served us, was called Jana and was very abrupt and rude, she had very poor customer service manners, saying "that's what it states on the menu, so that is what you have to pay"..........we would suggest to the farmers arms, that they have a reduced rate for the smaller appetite (if they can't be classed as a child). They also ran out of the dessert that our mother wanted for her birthday and we were sat in the conservatory with a leaking roof (buckets on the floor, catching the rain, which also splashed onto the seats, which we had to wipe down)...In my opinion, the quality of the food has deteriorated, as with the staff attitude and also the appearance of the restaurant....we will not be returning to this restaurant again, as other pubs can offer us a better standard of food, more welcoming staff and overall, a more enjoyable experience.

Have been here a few times, including for a birthday meal. The service was great by cheerful, friendly staff and the food great, we all went for the carvery. The meat was cooked to perfection and the veg tasty and hot. The girl serving the food was helpful, happy and polite. If you want fine dining then this isn't the place, but if you want nice food at good prices, in a good atmosphere with friendly staff and locals then you've got it. We have also tried the breakfasts here and they are amazing value for money and very very tasty. There is a small play corner for kids, (though some donations to this could help improve it) and a pool table. The pub isn't decorated modernly but although dated and slightly dark it is comfortable and quite cosy. We'd definitely go here again. Great food, great staff and all for a good prices.

The bar and waiting on staff were lovely! However the man they have employed to carve the meat was terribly poor. Whether he had just been employed or not I'm not sure, he had no support and struggled to cut the meat and then transfer it to the plate. Once he did the meat was all fat and had been shredded. A very disappointing dinner!!

We visit this establishment occasionally as it's very close to our home and we like the set up and value for money. In addition, I'd received information by Internet about January's offer of two meals for £7 when choosing from the alternative menu. That pleased us as I fancied battered fish with chips and mushy peas and my wife liked the look of the roasted chicken. We were served promptly and helped ourselves to veg but noticed that the chips looked a bit past their best - and they were. I really should have asked for some fresh ones. However, the fish was fine (not cod but could have been coley or haddock), as were the mushy peas. My wife enjoyed her chicken, cabbage, potatoes, cauliflower and peas. For afters, I enjoyed the bottomless ice cream and chocolate sauce which is always delicious. With drinks, the meal came to just over £13. Now beat that for value! We simply couldn't cook it ourselves for less. The Farmer's Arms is always welcoming and you know exactly what you're going to get for your money - a good deal!

Went here this evening, 8th jan 2015, with husband, daughter and mother in law. Ordered and paid for a fish carvery, meat carvery and 2 chicken & ham pie carveries. When we went to collect our meals, we were informed the chicken and ham pie had been thrown away and a new one being made which would take half hour before it would be ready! Surely this should have been told to staff taking order at the till before hand. Husband and mother in law had to make another choice. Hubby chose meat carvery and mother in law chose the sausages. My fish was large and looked good, and filled the plate with potatoes and other veg. Unfortunately, the fish was not as good on the inside as it looked on the outside. Think it had been kept warm since lunchtime, the batter was dry and crunchy, the fish was not flaky, more mushy, and not much taste. Roast potatoes very dry, probably there since lunchtime and kept under hot plates. Other veg luke warm.Mother in laws sausages also dried up, she put plenty of gravy on to juice them up. Hubby and daughter ate their turkey, the beef was dried up so they didn't eat that! Overall, this was the most disappointing meal we have had there and it will definitely be the last!!! We did complain to waitress who said she would tell the manager, but no one came to apologise or offer a replacement!!! Not good customer service at all.

Run by kids, dirty tables, dry meats, dirty food counters, vegetables not replenished and messy. The gravy and sauce counter disgusting. Shame really because it could be a good village pub with restaurant. I know this is a quick, cheap dining experience but my word would rather go to a fast food establishment.....book you ideas up learn basic food hygiene ........

Visited for the carvery you don't pay a lot for the food but you should expect it to be edible. The Turkey, Gammon and Beef was over cooked and I went for the turkey which tasted awful and was to tough to chew. We complained and had our money refunded. Won't go again.

This pub has been a regular haunt of ours when an early evening activity precludes a meal at home or a more leisurely meal out. It's so quick and convenient: a choice of roast meat from the carvery and as many vegetables as you like results in a goodly plateful, all well cooked, with an accompanying pint of Wainwrights - so much better than a trip to a local fast food outlet! This format is clearly popular and queues can lengthen the stay but on the whole it has suited us well. Just recently though, there have been a few changes in the pricing policy. Before, you bought your carvery ticket and chose what meat looked best at the carvery counter. Now you have to predict what you want beforehand. A bit of a shame. I do hope they go back to the old single price system.

Have been here on numerous occasions and couldnt really fault. However today i went again and just wasnt that impressed. Went with my mum. Ordered 2 starters and two cavareys. The starters came fairly quickly and were quite nice. Got bread with my soup. Would have prefered a warm bun but as the cost of it was pretty much nothing i wasnt going to complain. When went up for cavareys we joined a small queue of about 4 people. The couple infront said they had been waiting for 10 minutes for someone to come and serve them. We waited and waited. The lady behind bar went to shout in the kitchen for someone to come and assist but still we waited and we waited. Then finally someone arrived with some fish. Put it down without even looking at the queue and disapeared back into the kitchen. Eventually someone came out to serve us our meat. The turkey was hard and dry but the gammon was cooked just as i liked. The veg was only luke warm. Anyway again for the cost of it i wasnt going to complain. If your looking for a cheap meal out then its not bad but i wont be going back in a hurry

Everything about this country Pub / Restaurant including the staff and decor are of a very High Class. They go out of there way to make you feel comfortable. The decor and layout are well thought out. I would thoroughly recommend the Farmers Arms whatever the reason..We are returning there in December for our Works Xmas Meal unless I can find another excuse to visit sooner....

I was pleased to be invited to a family gathering here as it is our local. About 8 years ago it was very good and great value, its problem then was that you couldn't always get a table.Value for money this chain is very good but this particular restaurant seems to always have cold food and that has not changed judging by our visit today. One of our party left all her green beans as they were too cold to eat and said it is a pity they don't have a microwave so we can heat up our food. The staff were friendly, tables tidy and plates cleared away when necessary. The food available is well cooked and tasty with plenty of choice in the vegetables. If it was just hot enough we would be tempted to visit again.

We went past this pub, on our way to collect something and stopped on the way back for lunch today (9/3/14). I was with my husband and 5 year old son and we all had the carvery. Good choice of 4 meats, with plenty of veg to choose from and all fresh and tasty. 3 clean plates followed. Drinks were a reasonable price and did not wait long to be served. We had dessert (2 ice cream factories and a jelly and ice cream) which were yummy. I would defo re-visit this pub, if we were in the area again. May have to change our regular sunday lunch venue. carvery was £7.29 with children eating free!

We dropped in on a Saturday lunchtime with the wind blowing a gale and the rain lashing down. Boy, were we glad to get inside! For a change, I decided to go for the battered fish and chose chips and mushy peas to go with it. We we told that there would be a ten minute wait for the fish but as that meant that they were cooking it fresh, that was OK by me. My wife chose the standard carvery. The fish was fine and a good portion was served. However, the chips and mushy peas were very disappointing as I think they'd been on the hotplate far too long. My wife's carved beef was fine, as was her veg. I had the ice cream pud as it's always very tasty and it didn't disappoint this time. My wife chose a chocolate pud with cream that she devoured with gusto. This of course isn't expensive dining and I think I'm being fair with my criticism which is purely aimed at how the Farmer's Arms failed to refresh their chips and mushy peas. Just a small matter that they'd overlooked I feel. The staff were a bit patchy on this occasion and I noticed that they weren't clearing tables as quickly as they should and were walking past some tables without attending to them.

With my 70th birthday to celebrate, I chose this local establishment as we've been there many times and have always been treated well. We'd reserved a table for six and chose from the special 3 course Christmas menu. At £8.45 a head, it offered exceptional value and the staff were as attentive and pleasant as ever. Most of us chose the prawn cocktail starter which was good. One of our party opted for the parsnip soup which turned out to be rather tasteless. As usual, we collected our main course from the carvery and weren't disappointed. The meats on offer (turkey, ham and beef) were all good and the vegetables were fine. The inclusive puddings went down well (Christmas pud, profiteroles, yule log or bottomless ice cream with toppings) but none of us wanted a coffee after such a full meal.Summarising, it was a very pleasant evening and the staff were there when we wanted them. They were a pleasant bunch and seemed to enjoy what they were doing. We certainly got value for money and I'd defy anyone to cook at home at this cost!

Extremely cheap carvery, unfortunately last night when my family and I went the beef was of a very low standard, and even though the Turkey was well cooked, it was carved in chunks and the outer layer was so overcooked as to be unable to cut or eat it. Having said all of the the price is cheap and the service and the ham were excellent added to which they had put on a Halloween night for the children and had gone to a lot of trouble over this, without any charge and children in fancy dress eat free, so all in all I would recommend this restaurant for a family cheap night out.

We visited the Farmers Arms on a Thursday at 17.00. At first glance nice seating area and clean. The first problem was the service waiting at the carvery it was very slow and even when it's not very busy. The second problem was the raw vegetables - carrots, cauliflower and roast potatoes. I mentioned this to a member of staff and they replaced my meal (husband's was fine as didn't have the veg and roast potatoes). Second time around the roast potatoes were still raw. I can hear you shout it's only £3.69 what do you expect? Well, I don't expect a 5* dining experience however I do expect cooked food!!

Not entirely true! As many Hash browns, beans, sausages, slices of bacon and tomato's you can eat for the price, but eggs are fried to order for a small charge, and you pay extra to have mushrooms too. The food is of good standard, but the mushrooms were soggy and tasteless as if they were frozen ones warmed up in a microwave. Tea and coffee can be had for less than £2.00 per mug. So all in all, we considered it outstanding value, and tasty (apart from the mushrooms). The pub is very tired inside and out, and the tables and chairs have had much use, but it was clean and comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful, and there was plenty of room in the pub (about 10.30am on a Sunday morning), and the large car park was relatively empty. If like us you are in a rush getting ready for a day out, with no time for a breakfast at home, certainly worth a visit if you are passing. We were on our way to Southport with the dogs, and the late breakfast here set us up until tea time.

Then after 15 minutes we had to ask if they were serving food. 25 minutes later without eating we left. Everyone who came in after us got served whilst we waited and waited and waited and ……. Having been stuck in traffic that was even worse than usual, we took a spur of the moment decision to stop at the Hare and eat instead of enduring rising blood pressure. I'm so glad we did. Dinner was just what the doctor ordered and the fun banter with our waitress, Fabbey ensured we really enjoyed our visit and our frustration was replaced with smiles. Excellene service.
