Crown Carvery The Farmer's Arms in South Ribble

Just been turned away (14:05 on Sun 9th Feb) with my husband, my 4 year old and 3 month old baby. We just travelled 25 mins to get here. Upon setting off we checked they had availability via their website. We had the option of booking for any 15 min slot so we didn't bother making a booking as it was clear that they had widespread availability. Got kids and pram out of the car only to be told be upon arrival they they are fully booked. I advised they website says that they are aren't and explained the reason we didn't pre-book. Lady apologised and just kept saying no tables even though there were tons of free tables visibility free. I asked her had I of booked 25 mins ago and turned up would we have been turned away then? She said no of course not (not sure how a table would have magically been free had I of pressed the book button). She said she'd just had a large party arrival so the tables were no longer available. Got back in the car and out of curiosity went back on to their website. This was at 14:11 and I was able to successfully book a table for a family of 4 for 14:15! 14:30, 14:30 were all available too. I felt like walking back in and saying I have a booking now but it was clear our custom wasn't wanted so went elsewhere.

Wait with deliveroo and take away orders in the doorway with the smokers before they can find you your seat. Poor service, but the choice and food was good, bar maids where the only really great thing about the visit. Expect to wait over an hour for your food if it's not a carvery and no plates for your pizza.

We went on a Sunday and it was very busy we had to wait 5 mins in the doorway trying our best to close the doors as people where smoking at the entrance the wait was other people and justeat drivers collecting their takeaways and other people waiting to be seated then we where shown to our seats, we booked all our food at the bar and ordered our drinks from the very pleasent bar staff. The roast dinners where ready straight away, 20 mins later the veggie option was ready, but 40 mins in our starters only just arrived after everyone except 2 that haddnt received their pizzas had finished their main meal, but it took 1 hour and 20 mins to get the pizza to the table leaving the birthday boy to eat it all alone and it was a giant pizza, but it came with no plate to eat it on so he had to use a napkin. We decided we couldnt wait another hour for deserts so we left with no pudding. Bar staff great, kitchen staff unorganised, proffesional attititude zero, we had to keep asking where our food was, not once did someone take charge and come to the table to explain that the starters and the pizza was going to take so long. We still gave 3 stars because the food was good and the bar staff where good at their job, you need to employ a head waiter to control the times of food to the tables it shouldnt be the duty of the customer to keep reminding you that they dont have any on their table, I understand it was busy maybe not to prioritise take away on nights like that.

Avoid, I'm not that person to leave a terrible review, but honestly this place was horrendous, the food was warmed up we had to wait neck end of an hour to get served, the waitress did apologise for the wait, but it wasn't her fault, no bar staff.The list go's on and on..👎👎👎👎👎👎👎

The food was good but the service was ridiculously slow! I ordered 2 starters and a children’s meal to come out at the same time for my 2 year old God daughter so she wasn’t waiting for our mains. Our starters came out but her meal didn’t. Let it go as we ate our starters quickly so thought it wouldn’t be too long then before we all got our food and she could eat. Nearly 2 hours after placing the order, we had to chase up our mains with the only member of staff we had seen on the floor! (The table behind us had also just done the same) To be fair to the guy serving us, he apologised profusely and went and got my god daughter some mash and veg from the carvery unit to keep her going but at this point she was falling asleep and getting past hungry. So when her meal did eventually come, she didn’t want most of it and we ended up leaving without her dessert and with a very tired and sad little girl. Our food was tasty but unfortunately we won’t be back.

Food was brilliant. Quality has improved definitely. The staff were amazing and polite and very helpful they were amazing. Took time to order at the bar and the staff seemed not enough for the amount of people they were serving. Would definitely return but please help the staff not to be overworked. Nice staff like that are hard to find and replace.

Rocked up today with 6 family members and was looked after by Alex. He's an absolute legend and an asset to the team ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Visited today with my son daughter and grandaughter beautiful atmosphere bar staff very friendly carver was very miserable quite rude the food was really disapointing very bland no flavour gravy like water deserts was nice though

The decor and atmosphere were very nice. We liked being able to order on the app. Pizza was large and lovely, Pasta bake was tasty, not particularly big, the garlic sticks went well with it but weren't very garlicy. The simple burger overhangs the bread too much so no sauces etc. were on the overhang, so it was a bit plain. What was very disappointing was the size of the 'create your own sundae' ice cream. The two scoops were the size of golf balls, with very little toppings. It looked like a small child's dessert and certainly wasn't worth £4.99.

Really enjoyed atmosphere lunchtime at farmer's today. Had carvery all hot and freshly cooked and excellent value for money. Alex cleared our table for us and was working hard to keep up as place was full. All staff are friendly, nothing too much trouble..great.

Sorry to say me and my partner went for the first time for carvery will not be going again no t much choice gravy was really thin roast potatoes where like eating concrete price to expensive staff are miserbulle can get a much better carvery from red robin and half the price and better food and service so we will stick to that a standard carvery at red robin is 7 pounds 95 pence

Went for a meal today food was nice they have redone the place up my only issue took a child with autism loves nachos but hates cheese sauce asked them to replace with grated cheese and they refused said we can't do that think there customer service could be alot better

Had a carvery, Food cold, Gravy cold and watery. Not enjoyable.

Went here a month ago and the carvery was so nice. Went again Thursday 9th Jan, What a difference, food cold, gravy didn’t taste of anything as it was so watery. Told the waitress gravy was watery and in all fairness she asked if I wanted a new carvery which I said no as I was half way through it. She brought new gravy out which was just as watery and didn’t make it any better. Won’t be rushing back. What a waste of money!!

Good menu and the best carvery around

Just had a carvery today at lunchtime using the voucher. Brilliant value for money. Been here a few times and never been disappointed. Food was hot and fresh and very tasty. The bit that stood out the most though was the lady behind the bar taking the orders with blonde hair and a ponytail. As a customer service advisor myself for many years I look for good service. Her cheery manner and the way she greeted every customer and how she spoke to them was spot on. Very nice member of staff.

Vegetables at carvery were only just warm. Two friends ordered fish/scampi and chips and waited over half hour. No member of staff came to ask how the food was. The restaurant was not busy at the time but service poor

Good carvery, good prices. Only critique was the Apple Pie got served with a very small portion of custard, would've been much better with more.

I left a review a couple of weeks ago to say how loud the music was. However, we came on Boxing Day as a large party and have to say it was brilliant. Well organised good service and food and not noisy at all. Several of the party said we will have to do it again next year. I think we will be back before that. Thank you

We (a party of six) had lunch here on Christmas Day our reservation was for 3.30pm, we arrived a little early and the restaurant was very busy, we managed to find seats in the bar area until our table was ready. We didn’t have to wait long before a lady showed us to our table and our preordered starters were served to us, which we all enjoyed. Then we went up to the carvery for our main course, a selection of beef, turkey and gammon were available including pigs in blankets and nice selection of vegetables and potatoes which were lovely and hot. Then a nice selection of desserts which were also preordered, the staff were very friendly, attentive and did a marvellous job of looking after all of us. Throughly enjoyable, Thanks to all of the staff for everything and Best Wishes For 2025.

I took some elderly tenants for Christmas dinner (18 if them) and we had a fantastic time. The service was wonderful Kim made sure we had what we needed and the staff could not have done anymore to help us. The food was hot tasty and plenty of choice. This is our 2nd year celebrating Christmas at the Farmer's and we will be booking again for breakfast and lunch throughout the year. Thank you to all the staff.

Yes the farmers has been massively improved inside and out but it's the same old story. The food isn't great I had a messy Philly burger the beef patty was hard and not very nice the chips have improved though? Tables took way to long for someone to clear and when they were it was one plate one glass at a time. The chickens in the sharer was over done and the pizza was burnt at the bottom. And when we ordered the main meal it was pretty quick however the pudding took at least 25min to arrive and had to ask three times were they were. The last time we went before it was done up awful food yesterday cheap but even spoons food is better than this. Won't be back again however apart from the food the server Natalie was brilliant

PRE CHRISTMAS FAMILY GATHERING. Prebooked table for nine ready on arrival, very happy with layout and setting, plenty of room to get in and out. The recent refurbishment is great, fantastic relaxed atmosphere. Once order was placed, food was served quickly and piping hot, it all looked and tasted great. All staff were attentive, polite, friendly and courteous. All meals competitively priced, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will be back again soon. Highly recommend.

This pub has recently been fully renovated and I must say, it was well overdue. Both the interior and exterior look so much better. I visited yesterday, a mid week day, for a carvery. I noticed more staff on duty than previously and the majority were more mature in age. The place was well organised, well run and staff were both helpful and friendly. The carvery offered a couple of meat choices and there were plenty of vegetables to accompany it. If I were to offer any kind of constructive criticism - & it is only minor, the vegetables, although on a hot plate, were only luke warm. All in all, the atmosphere, environment, food quality and service were all very good. There is now more vegetarian and vegan choices on the menus too, which is great. There is outdoor seating, which will be ideal during the summer months, a large car park too. This is a place that I will return too, when in the area and I will recommend it to others.

Really enjoyed it, top carvery. The waiter Aaron power was outstanding the way he brought the pigs and blankets out was amazing. Everything from happy smile, kind service and joyful attitude was perfect. He is one of a kind and farmers arms are lucky to have him

Visited on the night of Tue 17th December great carvery and burger. Good price. We will definitely return. Feeling very full.

Service quite poor. Not the staff's fault as they seemed young and inexperienced. Poor management maybe? The food was very good.

We went for the Carvery lunch on Thursday 12/12/24. The atmosphere was great, the food fantastic and the staff were really good at their job. Friendly people who couldn’t do more for you so you have a great experience in the Farmers Arms. We tried one of the draft beers on offer from Brew Dog called Hazy Jane, just try it …! Alex was a quality waiter he’s kind doesn’t just take you stuff away and give you food but he talks to you for example football wonderful staff and the food is spot on

We were a party of six on an annual Christmas outing. We ordered six starters, one of which was soup and five of which were prawn cocktails, the waitress came and said there was no soup and no prawn cocktails. We moved onto the carvery without the starters, everyone’s carvery was lukewarm and therefore not at all pleasant, the bacon wrapped sausages were overcooked and dry. We won’t be going again.

Such as shame the disgruntlement rude staff let this place down along with the disorganisation of the breakfast set up. Upon arrival we order our breakfast with 2 cups of tea. The young girl who served us rummaged through the cups and looking for the cleanest as they all had marks on them and were obviously in need a a wash. She then tutted as she barked that she would have to go and look for clean cups and came back with 1 instead of 2. The breakfast buffet was disorganised and chaotic at the toast and hot drinks counter. There were no mushrooms. (Why not go out and buy some) and we had to wait a good 5 mins plus for the eggs, which meant by the time we had our eggs our breakfast was already lukewarm. When we sat down there was no cutlery on the table and we asked for it was rudely told it should be on the table. Obviously it wasn’t as why on earth would be asking. The service is an utter disgrace. It’s a shame the food was ok but the staff and no existent customer service made this an unpleasant visit for us.

Joke of a place. Book a table and still had to wait 45mins to be seated. Granted they was busy but people where coming in and being seated straight away. Poor service

I have visited Farmers Arms many times in the past and this visit will be the absolute last! Drinks arrived with lipstick on the glass. Tempura prawn starter came served fresh with a lovely long brown hair... And then we get to the debarkle of pudding for my daughter...a simple cookie dough and ice cream that apparently takes longer than 25mins to make. After waiting 15mins I politely asked how long it would be and was told there may be many orders in front of you - all fair and well. The manager went over to the pizza kitchen and passed on a message. After a further 10 mins of waiting I decided to approach the pizza kitchen myself to very nicely ask how much longer to wait. At this point I very quickly established the pudding hadn't even been started and the cooks didn't even seem to know what I was on about. Once again the manager came over along with another colleague of authority, and when I explained that a 25 minute wait for a mere cookie dough was a bit crazy both "managers" just looked at each other and shrugged and neither seemed to comprehend why as I customer I might be slightly annoyed by the situation at this point...lipstick, hair and a 25 minute wait. Needless to say my daughter is puddingless and I am left outraged at the sheer lack of concern by the staff on duty.

We have been a few times before it was closed for them to modernise the place. Had no faults then, but tonight was horrendous. We went as a couple after work near by. The pub was lovely and welcoming. Easy to order food and drink, even able to use our discount card. The food was another matter the starter to share was moderate, but then my lasagne arrived and it's the 1st one ever that wasn't hot enough to warrant the mandatory blow. It was just barely hit even though I was told it had come straight from the oven. I sat eating mine expecting my husband burger to follow soon after but no! I finished mine and he had to go to the bar and the manger said oh they shouldn't have come seperate and got the waitress to go check. She came eventually with burger and chips all lukewarm and the chicken burgers were hard. But after a full day's work it was consumed. He asked for sauce which was offered but this still didn't arrive when he finished. As an apology we were offered a free drink, we were on red wine and a glass of water. We declined and couldn't vacate quick enough. I have given a 1 star for the decor, we will not be eating here for a very long time.

I ordered one starter and 2 mains, both absolutely awful. Starter was supposed to be crispy battered mushrooms, wrong, they were totally soggy and just warm. As soon as we ate those my wife's lasagne turned up just warm and her garlic bread with cheese came two minutes after a third of it burnt black. Me, I'm waiting for my double crispy chicken fillet burger and fries. No appearance at all. I went and spoke with the manager and she sent someone to chase it up and she said sorry and that she would come and speak with me later. My wife had finished her meal and I was still waiting for mine. Eventually it came, was asked if I wanted any sauces which I did, they never came. The fries looked and tasted had if they had been fried twice and the crispy fillet burgers were luke warm and double cooked. Later on one the staff came over to us and offered us a free drink. Absolutely pointless because I was driving and on soda water. My wife and I will never set foot in this place ever again because I got the impression nobody really cared for the customer. We feel totally let down and our hard earned money wasted. Stay well away is our view.

1st visit after refurbishment. It was a pleasant atmosphere. The area near the bar was over filled with round tables, giving a claustrophobic experience. However, everything else was spot on, food, service atmosphere really good. Hopefully going again as £ 6:00 carvery for black friday

I had a lovely turkey sandwich. I asked the server if I could get a pot of gravy to dip my sandwich into, and he bought over a good portion of gravy. Thank you, Alex, for the great service

Looks much nicer now it's been renovated, Mel was very helpful when I collected my online order, the foods always good and very reasonably priced.

We went 22/11/24 for our sons birthday. Nice refurbishment. Carpark half empty, didn't seem over busy. Organised chaos. 5 of us. 2 received their food an hour and a half after ordering, apology made said kitchen had mixed up the tickets! The wrong burger was brought we queried it but was assured it was for our table, 10 mins later the correct burger arrived, the original one went back. 2 meals arrived as 2 were finishing eating, garlic bread and chips arrived about 10mins later. Food was warm, not hot. Children tired and hungry, irritable. Other tables complaining of the wait. To top it off next table told they had returned their burger to kitchen. We said it had come to wrong table,replied I'm on minimum wage don't complain to me! Wouldn't like to see it busy.

This place doesn't need any reviews. Clearly word of mouth keeps them busy! Booked a table for Sunday lunch for a lady who lost her husband a year today. Couldn't have got it more right. The lady who moved the chairs to accommodate the wheelchair deserves a special mention. Loved how she spoke to the wheelchair user not her carer which often people fail to do. She also got our desserts to go when we mismanaged our time and had the taxi booked too soon. Great staff makes the place including lovely carver. Food was excellent. Made her day more than bearable. A customer helping her get her coat off also restored her faith in people after a tough year. Thank you all xx

On arrival, waited 20 mins for tickets as booked it on the app . Plates greasy Food Luke warm , gravy like water , waited on drinks and then 2 missing , got ice cream and covered in sauce even though we asked for no topping , bad service as staff not organised at all.

Food was top notch! Absolutely beautiful! Service by Alex was great! Nice fella 5 ⭐️ service from him and all other staff! Will 100% be back to try more dishes soon! Great value for money! Kids enjoyed their food too!

Mediocre. Nice new decor, low quality (but expensive) food which seems like mass produced, cheap frozen food - definitely not the home cooked, quality pub fare I would expect at these prices. Starter arrived after the main course which I've never experienced before! Staff looked fed up and unenthusiastic. No cask ales. Had to go looking for cutlery and condiments as not on the table or provided by serving staff.

The service & food were excellent although it was busy & we were a bit squashed there was a great atmosphere.

Really disappointed with my most recent visit here. We've always enjoyed the carvery however since the refurb standards seem to have slipped. The food was cold leading me to believe the hot plates weren't up to scratch, also 3 of the veg bowls were empty which isn't great. The only thing hot on my plate was the roast potatoes, which had just come out of the kitchen. This was mentioned to a server who sympathized. However, he just started saying how everyone was complaining about cold food, not any suggestion on how to actually rectify it. This was mentioned to a senior member of staff (I think this was the manager but can't be sure), who whilst too busy to stop decorating the Christmas tree uttered the helpful words "what do you want me to do about it?". Not at all helpful! It's a shame as I've never had a bad meal here but won't be returning.

This is always our preferred choice for a carvery however last night really was a let down unfortunately. The meat on the beef was so fatty that it was inedible, full of gristle and too tough to chew, then of course you can’t go back and ask for exchange of meat. The man serving the carvery was dishing up his own food whilst Serving us and was quite rude when we asked for less fatty beef slices. Then I go to the bar and the lady serving me rolled her eyes when I ordered a cocktail and openly said to redhead girl if she would want to make it instead because she’s not good at making them so the girl with ginger hair was fantastic and didn’t complain & made a gorgeous cocktail, however it felt like I was a burden for ordering the cocktail. I normally love this place but after last night I’d rather go elsewhere and somewhere cheaper with better quality of meat.

Went with 10 people for my birthday the idea that you could only order by the QR code on the table or ar the bar was hard work with 10 people as people were all having different things and starters etc and only 4 people with carvery took a very long time for food to come but when we received the food was very nice but the wait was a bit ridiculous

I have read other reviews and our experience was really awful. The food was cold inedible we should have realised when at the counter as there was no heat at all at the service counter. Then we ordered sundaes as still Hungry and that also was a load of slop who puts a horrible waffle in a sundae. So unless this place improves the quality that they use to serve we will not be back which is a shame as we went there quite often. Ok tarting a place up but up the quality of food or at least serve it hot.a server told us they had nothing but complaints on Sunday about the coldness of the food.so won’t be back unless it improves greatly.

Food is nice enough service is super slow. Also who does a vegan pizza for a child. Sure should just be a swap rather than making it specifically vegan... Child did not eat it because it tasted funny. Vegan should be an option not the main dish for a child... Hard to explain to a 3yo who has been excited for pizza all day that it is a vegan pizza so they won't like it... Half our food arrived before 15 mins later the rest arrived. We had ask for the kids pizza immediately. It was the last to arrive... Doubt I'll return

Good breakfast. But don't expect getting all the items at the same time . Been before and after the renovation. The staff was helpful. Obviously short staffed and stressful for the workers and customers. Everything was cooked perfect but the cook was doing everything, cooking, checking items, topping up items , dealing with unhappy customers ( Guy needs a kitchen hand ) With better management this place would be brilliant.

Everything was fab. I brought 4 guests with me. My treat for a special occasion. & They all were more than pleased with the Food, & the price of it, the Staff, & the Venue it's self. Couldn't fault anything. Omg. Well done you guys. We will most certainly be back. & Will tell all our friends. 👍🌟

After just having a referb, the Farmers Arms now has a cosy, bright and relaxing atmosphere. The food has always been excellent and the staff always on hand for customers needs. One member of staff in particular I find outstanding and that's Alex. He is so natural, pleasant, down to earth and friendly. What a difference it makes having staff like him around. It just adds to a wonderful relaxing experience.
