This lovely pub is a family favourite. Today was a special occasion for us and as usual the chefs & serving staff excelled themselves. The young tall supervisor (sorry, didn't catch your name) was particularly caring of us, he was attentive throughout, and made the day extra special. Thank you. The old favourite, rare roast beef salad with pomme frites was tasty as always. Everyone else enthused about their mains of Brill, Rib eye Steaks & Burgers. Lovely to see some new desserts - the chocolate mousse scored a 10, no other plate was left untouched. Well worth a visit, bookings advisable on weekend days.

Gorgeous old pub in lovely picturesque village serving excellent food. We had Sunday lunch with roast beef and all the trimmings. Everything was cooked and served to perfection. Sticky toffee pudding was light and delicious, crème brûlée was done to perfection and served with a piece of shortbread that was lighter and more delicious than anything I’ve ever had before. Waiting staff were friendly and helpful and even gave us a shortbread each to take away when I mentioned how good it was. It is a bit pricier than other places but perfection comes at a cost. Only downside is the car park, it’s a bit too small for the pub and as spaces aren’t marked it’s open to every selfish idiot to take up more space and block other cars in.

A clean venue that sets high standards in everything that they do - including the loos. The wines are very well chosen and kept in good condition. The chicken & pork terrine was the best I've ever had in both taste, texture, and presentation. The fish pie with tender greens was not swamped in mash; essential for those having to watch their starch intake. I was looked after very well indeed by the front of house staff. Thank you. When I made my online reservation, I asked whether the Eyston Arms could be accessed by my friend, who is in a wheelchair. My reservation was accepted but I didn't receive a reply. Managed to manhandle my friend and her wheelchair into the restauraunt via the parking lot, and had a nice meal. On 22 November, I sent the following email to the address on its website with the subject line "wheelchair access", but over a week later still haven't received a reply:Hello. My friend and I very much enjoyed our meal at the Eyston Arms on Wednesday. We liked the surroundings and the food and thought your staff were very friendly and helpful. The one thing I think needs to be dealt with is your disabled access. My friend came in a lightweight foldable wheelchair, but we were lucky I'm reasonably fit and even more that your sturdy Hungarian colleague was available to help us out of the pub at the end of our meal. The entrance near the disabled toilet would not be hard to retrofit in order to make it accessible to a motorized wheelchair, giving access to the whole pub. It needs to have either permanent inclines (probably the least hassle for everyone) or you need to have portable ramps available that the staff can put down quickly anytime someone in wheelchair comes to the pub. As you probably know, the Equality Act 2010 requires any pub undergoing refurbishment to cater for disabled access. You've gone part of the distance with the toilet, and (though I didn't see the whole pub) I think would be 100% there if you dealt with back entrance. There is more information on the website of the Equality and Human Rights Commission. We'd like to come back to the Eyston Arms, but would be much more likely to do so and to recommend it to others if we knew it was entirely accessible. All the best,Andrew Wilson

Many people rave about this eatery and I am not trying to negate what they say but we really only wanted a light lunch and that was not really available. They did offer the smoked salmon starter as a stand alone but decided they needed to charge extra to replace the bread with a green salad. I was offered a roast beef sandwich with horseradish sauce and a small basket of french fries. The sandwich was tasty but would have been nicer on brown bread, I wasn't given the choice. We did look at the desserts but all were rather substantial so we gave them a miss.

This is one of those old pubs that has had to reinvent itself. It has been very successful indeed and the results are very good. The service is excellent, to the point of being almost over zealous, and the food is wonderful. As a person with food intolerance, I found that fact that they had a clear menu with all of the dietary issues listed to be very useful. I would suggest that the chef looks at it though and realises that he is using dairy in almost everything, especially puddings. I didn't ask, but it may well be the case that if you ask 24 hours ahead that they will do something special, don't know.

Even though we live quite close, this was our first visit to the Eyston Arms, for dinner for five adults on a Friday evening. You only get one chance to make a good first impression and these guys did just that in spades. A warm welcome at the door by our Host, drinks and menus brought swiftly to a nice table in the courtyard garden and orders taken accurately but not in any way in a rush. Inside is a really nice bar for socialising (As people used to do in pubs) and nice dinning rooms that were there at least 200 years ago but with more modern furniture. There is here a very competent kitchen, friendly and efficient serving staff, all watched over by our friendly Host in a way that was not intrusive. Food was excellent and well presented. We loved this place, why haven't we been here before?

Been a few times, lovely village in the hart of Oxfordshire, friendly service and very tasty food, tad expensive and we both thought the menu was a little limited...oooh and the gents loos was like a swimming pool but I'm sure that's just a one off, still one of my favs))

The Eyston Arms was fantastic. We arrived at 3:15pm on a Sunday afternoon hoping for food. The kitchen closed up at 3pm in preparation for the evening sitting. We were halfway through a 50km cycle ride and wanted some grub and drinks. The waitress kindly asked the kitchen if they could do some food however everything had been switched off. Never the less there were some surplus roast spuds left over from lunch time and they served them up to us free of charge! They were the best roasties I’ve had in a long time and on that basis we will definitely be coming back for a Sunday lunch very soon!

My wife and I had a delicious meal having had a recommendation to visit by some friends. Excellent choice lunch menu. Great ambience, attentive service and as good a pub restaurant as we have been to recently. Interesting artwork throughout. G

the pub has a lovely outside eating aera, only not great here, is service, you have to chase the waiter/tress. Very nice food, decent price, nice presentation. would have been excellent if the service would have been more reactive.

I discovered the Eyston Arms for a few years ago when I was in the area and now whenever I get back then I make a point of having dinner here at least once per trip. It is a nice village pub with above average food. The food is carefully prepared but not fancy. It is not the cheapest food around, nor is it the most expensive. Over the years I have observed that they seem to have a good eye for staff and I have never been disappointed with the level of service. The beer is always welcome. Hopefully I will keep enjoying it for a few more years

I disagree with a previous reviewer that this place is vulgar....there are many others within a 30 mile radius that would win that award.

A beautifully decorated pub in a stunning Oxfordshire village. A well kept pint of Hooky was on tap and an extensive menu for carnivores. The vegetarian options consisted of a pie on the specials options of which the waitress informed me they had 1 left and a black bean and avocado burger and an oxford blue cheese served with skinny fries. It was tasty enough but when you cut into it the consistency was poor and became like mush on the plate. The skinny fries appeared to be the same as those at Macdonalds and looked cheap even in their individual chip basket. A well cooked homemade chip would be a far better alternative. In order to be vegetarian friendly there really needs to be more choice of main courses. The rhubarb and blueberry mille feuille was excellent and extremely light and flavoursome and the homemade truffles my colleague ordered were delicious.

This is a lucky combination of a great building, great food, a free house, really nice staff, and a strong bunch of local people who provide the spark that ignites this combination and makes it come alive almost every day of the year. For drinkers, its almost like a party - mingle with strangers, share the local gossip, sing to the piano if you feel so inclined. Food is reliably good, too. You have to not mind dogs [there'll always be one or two in the bar], and m not mind noise - its not often quiet, although the table by the fire is a good retreat. It is what it says on the tin though, a public house, a large drinking and eating family!

Easter Sunday beautifully rare roast beef and Yorkshire puds and fall off the bone lamb shank! So very yummy. At 2.15pm the restaurant was still full! This says a lot in my view. This was my 4th or 5th return trip (from Oxford), and the drive there was also really beautiful - green and bucolic. Staff most attentive and pleasant. Not inexpensive, but one can't fault the freshness of the veg nor the succulence of the meat. Well done again Eyston Arms. Till the next time...... :)
