We loved this place. It looks and feels like an old fashioned traditional pub but the service is brilliant. The staff are Professional, knowledgeable and very pleasant. Natasha especially was excellent. The range of wines by the glass are good -including champagne and there is a great selection of keg and cask beers, least half a dozen of each. The bar nibbles are great and the food is good and very good value. At night with all the candles lit the atmosphere is lovely.

Appalling service and staff. Decided to try their steak night, my rare steak turned up as a well done piece of leather, they forgot the mushroom and tomato and the chips were undercooked. Decided to give them a second try and do rib night. This time they decided to up the ante by replacing bad food with no food. They somehow managed to lose the meal in the kitchen. To be fair the staff did spend twenty minutes blaming each other, going through receipts etc instead of getting the meal so they did manage to keep themselves busy. In their defense the people who actually received their meals did seem to enjoy it, I wouldn't know. I suppose that they had to do something rather than clear tables. In both nights there I don't think I saw staff do one table check or clear a glass or a plate from a table. Both occasions the staff could not give any more of an impression about not caring or offering anything. Normally I would expect.. well maybe the meal after you point it it, but that never appeared to be an option. Used to be a good bar, I don't know how it has got so poor.

Recently, I went there for a birthday meal with my friend, not knowing what to expect from the Steak Night. We were so surprised! It was one of the loveliest meals we had in a long time. The steak was cooked to perfection, and the portion was just right, one drink included as well. Not to mention that the service was just the best and made our midweek evening really special. Thank you!

My recent Christmas Day booking at Express Tavern was nothing short of a disaster. It was hands down the worst service I have ever encountered while eating out. From the moment we walked in, it was evident that the staff lacked professionalism. Their rudeness was palpable, and it set the tone for what should have been a joyous occasion. It's astonishing how such behavior is tolerated in the hospitality industry, especially on a day as special as Christmas. The nightmare continued as we endured an excruciatingly long wait for each course of our 3-course meal. It took a staggering 3.5 hours to complete what should have been a straightforward dining experience. I could have prepared a better meal with my eyes closed in less time, and it's heartbreaking that this is how we spent our Christmas. This level of unprofessional service is simply unacceptable, especially on a day meant for celebration. Express Tavern has left a lasting impression as an establishment that not only failed to meet our expectations but also tarnished what should have been a memorable Christmas celebration. I strongly advise against dining here, as you're likely to have an experience that falls far short of your expectations, especially during special occasions like Christmas.

Very slow service, although our dinner was pre-booked (Dec 24th, 17.00h). 45 minutes until our starters arrived. The wine list indicated 175ml as the smallest glass, but my friend got 125ml only. No serving spoons for the vegetable sides. The pub inside was busy, but outside within the extension area and the garden were more or less empty. Lights went on and off ... Although I had informed the pub 3x about my 2 dogs when I booked, chose the menu and confirmed on the day, I wasn't informed about a 'pub cat' on the premises. Although I asked twice for a bowl of water for my dogs, they didn't get a bowl of water. And finally two utmost rude female staff members harassed my friend and me after I asked why I wasn't informed about a cat on the premises. My dogs had been sleeping nicely underneath the table until the cat came up. Then they barked briefly until I calmed them down. A simple apology would have been enough, but no, one female staff member started to argue and shout at me. Another female staff member harassed my friend while I was inside the pub to ask for the bill and our deserts being packed for take-away since we definitely didn't feel comfortable anymore. No hospitality but negligence and hostility. --- Looking at the Google reviews, 53 of 5-star reviews were written by 'local guides' within the last 6 months and especially after 1-star reviews. 53 'local guides' visiting the pub in Brentford??? How real is this? I give this pub 0-star and Never Again.

My recent visit to Express Tavern was nothing short of a disaster. The staff's attitude and negligence were utterly appalling. Despite having communicated dietary restrictions in advance, it was clear that the staff was unprepared and confused. This resulted in a severe health issue for a member of our party who needed a gluten-free meal. What's more concerning is the dismissive attitude we encountered when we tried to address the issue with the staff. It was as if they couldn't care less about the problems they had caused. This level of apathy and unprofessionalism left a lasting impression. To make matters worse, we had to endure an excruciating wait of nearly an hour just to get a drink. We shouldn't have had to beg for basic service. It's disappointing to see such a lack of hospitality from a place that should know better. Our experience at Express Tavern was far from pleasant. We had expected a joyful Christmas celebration, but instead, we were met with indifference and incompetence. This is not an establishment that values its customers or their well-being. I strongly advise others to think twice before dining here, as our experience left us utterly dismayed.

My recent visit to Express Tavern on Christmas Day was nothing short of a nightmare. The service we encountered was at its absolute worst. Despite having a reservation, we were left waiting for an excruciatingly long time just to be acknowledged by the staff. It took ages to get our drinks, and we had to repeatedly ask for even the basics. What struck me the most was the overall lack of attentiveness and professionalism from the staff. It seemed as though they were overwhelmed or disinterested in providing even the most basic level of service. Our dining experience should have been a special one, but instead, it turned into a frustrating ordeal. The staff's indifference and incompetence overshadowed the occasion, leaving a lasting impression for all the wrong reasons.

Our recent Christmas Day experience at Express Tavern was deeply disappointing. Despite prior communication about dietary restrictions, the staff appeared unprepared and confused. This led to my husband consuming gluten, resulting in severe illness. What was even more concerning was the shocking customer service. The staff displayed a lack of professionalism and a complete disregard for our concerns. It seemed as if they had never worked a day in hospitality. To make matters worse, attempts to address the issue with the manager were met with indifference. We were overcharged by £90, and the manager's response only added to our frustration. Adding to our ordeal, we were forced to stay at the restaurant for three hours when it should have been a 90-minute dining experience. This experience not only marred our Christmas celebration but also raised serious doubts about the competence and commitment of Express Tavern to customer satisfaction. We strongly advise caution when considering this establishment, as our experience left much to be desired.

Racist bartenders. Went on Friday night and the bartenders refused to acknowledge me or speak to me for 20 minutes in an all white pub. At first I thought it was because I was a women, but they served 8 other people through the course of the 20 minutes I was waiting, including a woman. I was the only person of colour in the pub and it slowly started to click that they were prioritising other white people who had just walked into the pub or who had come up to the bar over me. I said something and got completely ignored, and then the bartender tried to serve the man standing next to me. Very grateful that he spoke on my behalf and said that it was my turn to be served. Do not go to this pub if you are not white.

Good to see one of the few original pubs in the area still going. They always have plenty of ales and lagers on along with the usual customs. They do a great barbecue on a match day too with burgers et al. Based upon the latest visit the chaps behind the bar were friendly and playing some vinyl. Outdoors was nice too with sport on and the outdoor bar open. The folks was decent and portions big (chicken schnitzel, chips and salad was just over £15). For Korean: Enjoyed the 23/24 Brentford opener here in the pub. As it is a ‘bees’ pub, a lot of fans stop by here before the game. There is plenty of space, including the inner yard. Even if you can't watch the game, there are four TVs inside so you can watch it comfortably. Rather than lager, we recommend trying over 10 types of British cask ale or apple cider. It is a great honor to visit a heritage pub that has been in operation for two centuries, starting in the 1800s🍻 For UK: Enjoyed the 23/24 Brentford opener in this pub, there's a huge amount of ‘bees’ popping in here before the game. (Is this Beehive?🤣) There's plenty of room to spread out to the rear garden, and if you can't but tickets, there are 4 televisions in the room for you to watch comfortably. Please try one of their 10+ English cask ales or apple cider. It's a great honor to be in a heritage pub that's been around for two centuries, since the 1800s🍻 🏷️ I'm a South Korean who has fallen in love with AMAZING British heritage pubs. Straight off the bat, this bar has some of the slowest staff I've ever seen. All bar one Lady who was running the food and taking orders in the Garden. Two bartenders on a Sunday were moving at a snails pace. Couldn't keep track of who was waiting and who was next to be served. Waited 15 minutes for a drink and they were only serving 3 people in front of me. Not blaming them for it completely this is obviously down to a lack of knowledge or training given. A start would be teaching them how to pour a Guinness properly. Watching them walk around so slowly was quite amusing after a while though. We asked for the bill (table of 4) and one of the guys came back with a card reader and told us the total amount. Not sure that's how it works when asking for a bill. I asked him if he could bring us a physical bill as we all had different things and he returned with his phone and asked us what we wanted to pay for separately. When I paid I noticed that I'd been charged extra as had my friends, to which we were told "That's for the service charge". We weren't made aware of this prior and to me it seemed a bit sketchy. If we'd have been given a bill like we asked we might have seen it before. Seemed very sneaky. Overall I'd recommend giving it a miss, unless you enjoy waiting ages for drinks and being charged extra for things you're not made aware of

Agreeing with the other reviews mentioning poor/rude service. Went in and asked if pub dog could go on lead because he was following our dog around which they didn't do but did close the door to the garden to separate us (which sadly had no handle garden side 🙄). Went up to order and stood there while bar staff was cleaning a mirror. He asked if I needed anything which I obviously did and when I said I wanted to order he just carried on cleaning the mirror. Told him to forget it and he suddenly became attentive. Too little too late though. Left.

Food is reasonably good, not gastro pub sorta stuff but keeps you happily fed while you drink.
