The Exchange in Brighton and Hove

Okay for a drink Sat outside, as it's a t.v. screen type of pub and the football was on. Depends on what you like I guess. Overall a nice enough place.

Went early in the week. Nice peaceful welcoming atmosphere. Nice food. Not cheap. Busy and bustling mid evening.

been here a couple of times recently on a friday and sunday for food ans a saturday on the way back from a football match. It’s a top venue for both food and atmosphere. the selection of beers both from established and local breweries is a huge plus. on the saturday we went in august, there was a live band playing some great songs abd i believe they have bands in often on a saturdat although che on with the venue if this is what you’re looking for if its sport you’re after then there are a plethora of screens around the pub and there’s also a good beer garden at the back of the pub and seating at the front. The staff are kind, attentive and always make you feel welcoming. finally price are reasonable for the centre of Hove which is important! one of my favourite pubs in the Brighton, Hove and Portslade and i’d highly recommend their sunday roasts.

Food was great, such a lovely pub.

Lovely staff. Football was a bit overwhelming but thankfully there was a zone which had the music on rather than the commentary. Great happy hour prices on a Wednesday night

i had probably the best roast i have ever had here today. i have got coeliac disease, so i can’t eat gluten, and the staff & chef’s were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. i had an amazing, gluten free roast. highly recommend to anyone who can’t eat gluten!

We love this local pub and the new refurb has really made it really inviting and cosy inside! The menu here is absolutely excellent 👌 It's restaurant quality, has inventive small plates as well as high end pub classics, and the head chef is really friendly by checking back on tables himself out in the pub sometimes. It's a great vibe and a nice touch that the chef pops over to check you're happy with the food. The bavette steak and chips is great, and we've had the pheasant goujons and whitebait small plates twice in the last couple of weeks! Yum! The bar staff are really friendly too!

Dropped in midweek for a bite to eat for half an hour or so. Had an awesome scotch egg and a Lucky Saint. Understandably quiet so no buzz, but I could easily get one of their many tables. A lovely pub I'd definitely visit again.

The exchange isn't a bad spot and if your are coming via hove park can be a great stepping stone. The menu is innovative to say the least but backed up with quality so would recommend you go for something you wouldn't normally.

The Exchange is certainly the best by far in Hove for great food and is particularly amazing if you have a restricted diet due to intolerances. Amazing customer service and nothing phased the chef, he went that extra mile to make sure my food experience was a pleasure to eat (not the usual rush to the nearest loo) this as anyone with food intolerances knows is so very important. Highly recommend, 10 out of 10,

Great little boozer, with lovely staff

As a biker, I like pubs that serve proper coffee, especially decaf, preferably with cream, so the Exchange just needs to upgrade from full fat milk to cream :-) There's a garden out the back that's nice and sunny on the north side and shady on the south side, so you can sit round a table with your mates, sun worshipers on one side, sun dodgers on the other and everyone's happy. Plenty of seating in the shade out the front, too. They show big sporting events inside, if that's your thing.

What a great venue, we stayed in an Air B and B just round the corner, found this pub and didn’t leave! The food is amazing and there is so many TVs for watching sport etc! Big shout out to the team!

This is a good old fashioned locals pub with big TVs and sports broadcast for the casual customer. There's a shady area out front with tables and benches with a 50:50 sun and shady beer garden at the back. Plenty of room inside for sporting events and when it's cold. I haven't eaten there but I'm told the food is good by folk I trust. All the staff have been super friendly when I've been catching up with mates who are local.

Came here for Sunday lunch having followed their Chef on social media for some time and seeing all the wonderful dishes. Was not disappointed!! Hands down the best roast I’ve ever had (bar my mums…) Very generous portions,a lovely selection of fresh,well-cooked veg and fantastic gravy. We had the beef and the lamb. I couldn’t believe the amount of meat on both plates. Pigs in blankets as a side were great. We didn’t really have room for dessert, but when there was treacle tart and sticky date pudding on the menu,so we made space!! I have a nut allergy and felt confident in the staffs handling of this. Great value,good atmosphere and friendly,helpful staff. We live in Worthing but will be driving across regularly to eat here (also a good alcohol free range at the bar.).

What a pub. Amazing atmosphere for the football ⚽️ Staff was great when busy. Food was fantastic. Well done Shan and team. Will be back for the next game.

My partner and I popped in for a drink after the T20 cricket and it was one of the most fun evenings I've had in a long time! The staff were so friendly and on the ball, especially given that the pub was quite busy. We were greeted with a smile, served very efficiently and enjoyed a fantastic evening of live music. Needless to say, the "one quick drink" turned into several! Amazing atmosphere, fantastic people. What more do you want!

Normally a lovely spot. Certain members off staff have made it less so in recent years. It’s a real shame as most of the staff, and the venue has been great, sadly particular members of staff have made this a steer clear and head to one of the many other lovely hove pubs!!

Few drinks after returning from London train

Been here a few times recently and was surprised to see a lower than expected rating. The more recent reviews are far more accurate. Have had food twice (both times banging) and the staff are lovelt. Really nice bar and spot. My preferred place to watch football even though it's a bit out of the way for me as it doesn't really have a football vibe, all very friendly and enough space to fit everyone.

Pop in today Sat 7th October bit to eat and a beer. Read many positive reviews about this place, and have to agree food was good. Beer clean and crisp. Decor quirky, interesting. Nice steady flow of regulars many eating also. Feels like a pub that is supported by it's locals. Definitely be back. Just had the Sunday roast 11th February 2024, absolutely amazing.

I’ve experienced The Exchange as a local over 20 years and right now, it’s the best it’s been. The food there is delicious and above the standard you would expect from a pub with a menu that changes with the seasons. The Sunday roasts are very good and the roast potatoes are exceptional. Shannon and her staff always make you feel welcome…

The friendliness of the staff especially Shannon and Kevin the chef were exceptional, like you had known them all your life. The food was just amazing. I had the soup of the day and on an exceptional cold day was more than welcome. The chowder was just the best and when the full roast arrived, oh my what a culinary delight. We were stuffed but made room for Xmas pudding!

I love this pub! The staff are always really chatty and friendly.. Always feels really cosy and welcoming when I come to this pub, also the food is banging! I've tried a few of the small plates and looking forward to trying the new menu! Can't wait to go back!

This is one of the best pubs in Hove!!! Staff are insanely great, food is INCREDIBLE (please try the Irish stew you will not be disappointed) and the atmosphere is unbeaten. Lots of events on too! We love it there.

Ordered the vegan fish and chips - the batter was amazing - out of this world, the chips and tartare sauce sublime, but have lost a star because it seemed to be ALL batter. I *think* it was supposed to banana blossom for the vegan fish but it was so thin and sparse, it may as well been entirely absent - love batter but expect more than just this.

food really bad, it wasn't busy in there plenty of open tables so I can't see why. First time trying the food here and the last. I'm so glad I saved myself money by not getting the steak! the burger is crazy at £17 it was rock hard and inedible. I asked for no cheese but somehow there was still hard melted cheese lumped onto the tasteless 'skin on' processed fries. it was way too much aioli sauce aswell. had to leave most of it. the white bait was so bland too and just in a big swamp of sauce. really disappointing. abandoned food sad edit to reply: it's solved already but thanks for reply, I wouldn't eat here again due to the experience and cross contamination, just wanted to share the review of the poor food so others won't waste money and be dissapointed. I wouldn't have minded the price if it tasted nice. if you sell burgers for that price people are going to expect something better than the hundreds of competitors in the city.

Superb Sunday Roast in a great pub with very friendly staff. The beef was meltingly gorgeous and a superbly cooked selection of veg sides.

Nice enough pub, friendly staff, but so expensive for a tucked away local. £7.50 for a locally brewed pint, £17 for an OK but not amazing burger and chips that didn't even come with some coleslaw or a pickle. Between 3 of us we spent over £100 in a couple of hours, could have gone out for dinner for that. Felt like a rip off, central Brighton pretentious gastropub prices. Bad value for money.

Ate here at the exchange last night. Everything on the menu looked so good we couldn't choose what to have so we decided to order all of the starters (nearly all) everything was fantastic. The food was so fresh and delicious like seriously good. Hats off to the chef, we will definitely 100% be returning. Your roast dinner is in my sights. Very well deserved 5 stars for you. X

I’ve been drinking at this pub for a few years but over the last few months it’s taken a massive step up. Management has been superb and the customer service from Shan has been incredible. Anyone who’s looking for a good drink and a good time in hove. Get yourself to the Exchange!

By far the best public house in Hove for roasts and general atmosphere, from the friendly staff to the amenities on the same level, the all-over feel of this place is excellent and it is a pleasure to frequent as often as one can.

I love the Exchange! I’m lucky to count it as one of my locals, the staff are welcoming & fun and the food is banging with seasonal menu changes. From live entertainment to chilled Sundays in the garden or by the fire, I highly recommend a visit!

The Exchange is a popular go to pub around Hove and gets busy pretty quickly at key times. It's got really nice food, really friendly staff and a great atmosphere. I would recommend booking a table for big guests as it does get very busy.

Even though the roast was £10 it was both generous and of a high quality. To be honest I would happily of paid around £15. I had the beef and it was slightly over cooked but was neither hard or tasteless. The pepper crusting was a great touch! Great range of seasonal veg and I normally dislike neeps however the parsnip chip things as a garnish were fantastic. The wine selection was good and as always brilliant range of real ales etc! Staff were brilliant!! Side note- the football was on the big screen which wasn't intrusive on the meal but could be if you sat in the wrong place!

The food here is incredible. I think they have a new chef who is producing these amazing seasonal dishes. The bar staff are very friendly and the service here is super even when it was busy I felt very looked after. Very popular with locals as well.

Food was good but having to use phone to order is awful. Most places will serve you direct but prefer you to use your phone. The Exhange insist on you using the phone. For that reason I won't go back. No request to check into covid19 app and no request for us to use hand gel. Table spacing fine.

A bit tired and grotty. Could do with a spruce up. We visited later on a Sunday afternoon and the football and Sunday roasts had just finished. There were a lot of very young children running about and there were lamps on high window ledges and fairy lights that the children seemed to be able to tangle themselves up in. Staff were very friendly though. Overall, just not our sort of pub.

We were a large family group of all ages from 6months to 91! We booked a table for Easter Sunday and the roasts by the new chef were fab! Shannon and her team made us feel very welcome with great service would highly recommend 🙌

What a great pub!! The staff are friendly and can’t do enough for you. The food is AMAZING!! Absolutely delicious. The head chief told us that he had recently taken over. He is so passionate about food which is evident in his cooking. We will definitely be going back!

Had an amazing Sunday roast here. I had a vegan Wellington and my partner had Baba blossom fish and chips. Talk about a slap up meal! Totally delicious, great portions, lovely starters too. Looks like we'll be regulars!

We had Sunday lunch at The Exchange and we could have been at a top restaurant or incredible hotel. The menu devised by Chef Weilding is varied and exciting - offering other options as well as a Sunday Roast. We chose beef croquettes to start which were crispy and meaty, and an utter delight. The roast itself was plentiful, the vegetables were roasted perfectly, the cabbage was sweet and so fresh. It was easily the best roast I have had in an extremely long time and is second to none in Brighton and Hove. It is a must that you visit - and please, order the cauliflower cheese, it is heaven in a bowl.

If you've not eaten in there recently give it a go! A new chef has arrived and with him an absolutely delicious menu of lovely fresh food cooked beautifully. I tried the squid which was huge whole pieces of fish (not a calamris ring in sight!) and it was wonderful, followed by steak, frites, salad. Often steaks can be so tatseless but I had a hunch this was gonna be good-and it was! Flavoursome, tender in short, perfection. I hear the Sunday roasts are good too- if you're local, give it a go!
