Cafe Coho - Ship Street in Brighton and Hove

In my efforts to try as many coffees in Brighton during my two days visit, had breakfast here. Loved the decor / style and outdoor terrace and menu choice but I have had much better coffee elsewhere (my flat white came in a way too big cup), and scrambled eggs were ok but a little too wet for my personal taste. Still, great service and location are worth stopping by for sure

Fabulous coffee and breakfast for all tastes. Vegan, gluten-free, and all amazing croissants filled with joy. Great place to start the day or chill out with beer on the terrace

I am still sat outside this wonderful cafe as I am writing this review. The staff were very friendly & helpful. The atmosphere outside was great…but the Brie & Bacon toastie with oodles of cranberry sauce was DELIGHTFUL.

Really excellent flat white, and pleasant to sit outside.

Had a great cup of coffee here while walking around the Lanes. The service was good & they had clean toilets.

Fresh tasty, high quality, homemade beans utter deliciousness on a plate and the coffee was great too. Highly recommend.

We sat outside and the atmosphere was really nice. It wasn’t too crowded and a great place to sit and chat. We got coffee and scrambled egg on toast. The coffee was really good, I would get it again! The scrambled egg on toast was lovely too and we didn’t have to wait too long for it either (although it didn’t look too busy when we arrived). The staff were really lovely and were accommodating. Also didn’t have any seagulls try to steal our food so seems it’s a safe place to eat outside.

Staff definitely made this place. Ate here twice during our stay, both times service and food was lovely. Simple menu, but I definitely recommend 👌

I don’t think I’ll return to this cafe. The drinks and pastries were very expensive and not very good. My pan au chocolate in particular was dry and tasted slightly stale. The juice was good but I would encourage to ask for it with ice. The outside area isn’t the best and the chairs and tables were uncomfortable.

What a vibe this place has! . The food is gorgeous and very fresh. Generous portions and a great selection of fresh cakes and pastries. Matcha was spot on and best we have ever tasted and coffee was fab too. Music was supercool and on trend. We visited twice during our visit to Brighton.

Cafe Coho is consistently reliable with friendly staff and a god selection of eats. My teeny gripe is that customers are constantly asking for the WiFi password. It would be easier for all of it was on menu or displayed.

The Arabian eggs were incredible! The coffee is in a really big cup which is perfect for enjoying and savouring slowly!! Much better than a tiny coffee from some places. Great location and staff!

Lovely 'hip' side street cafe, good quality food, cooked to order. If outside mind the Gulls.

I met my daughter and her friend there for breakfast but, sadly there were no vegan options for me (unless I wanted a flapjack). I had coffee and my daughter and her friend had their breakfasts which they reported were fine. Nice enough place for coffee, but minimal vegan options.

Food was very tasty and coffee good with quick service. However, felt very overpriced and portion sizes were very small for what we paid.

Very nice little café with delicious cafe and sophisticated sandwiches. We had a very good breakfast and would be happy to come back at the next opportunity.

Fabulous breakfast brunch at the Ship street branch. Seek out the Arabian eggs bloody marvellous!! Also the Hariss eggs Benedict were amazeballs !! Try the almond bakewell and the Tunisian orange cake with excellent coffee !!

Went early to get a nice breakfast before having to check out our hotel, sat there for 45 minutes and worried as check-out time was approaching went to ask how much longer we have to wait for our food, only to be informed by staff they lost our ticket. Apologies were given and was told they would refund our entire order as they should, however, when given the receipt it showed they only refunded the food not the drinks despite the fact we sat in there for an hour with no one checking on us. Poor service is not the right words, wasted our morning.

Amazing service, great good and very good coffee. Highly recommend 👌 My wife, brother and I visited here during the honeymoon with my wife. We had an unfortunate situation with the local seagulls carpet bombing us while we were sitting outside in the alfresco. The staff looked after us very well to help clean up. And of the food that we did get to eat, very delicious!

This is a nice coffee shop in Brighton, their sandwiches are always really good, I haven't had the chance to try their pastries but they always look very apetising. The coffee is great, I find the teas a little bit expensive, considering other coffee shops offer you a tea pot along with a tea filled mug which makes it a little bit more worth what you're paying for. The tea costed me £3 and it wasn't even filled to the top. Apart from that everything else is great. The food is tasty and they give you GREAT portions for what you're paying. The staff is also super friendly and fast. I've been here a few times and I'll definetly come again as I do really like this place. The location is also great, very central, close to the sea front as well, and pretty much in town.

it was a poor experience in such a nice looking cafe on a lively street with pathetic and upsetting experience of having such a stale and dried piece of cafe with tea like hot water without any taste.It spoiled the evening and mood long awaiting evening tea on a holiday.

Busy, atmospheric cafe with a “local” feel and friendly, efficient service. I had Turkish Eggs which were delicious, with loads of yoghurt and spinach, with two perfectly poached eggs, just the right amount of chilli and two pieces of flat bread. My wife enjoyed her eggs royal, too. And the coffee was perfect, too!

Beautiful experience at Coho Cafe. Very friendly and welcoming place, with chilly music and good vibes. The food is really good and research the quality and the natural taste. They pay attention to the allergies and to the diets of everyone. All breakfast menus are very good 👍 They serve matcha tea and other good teas Espresso could be better and the space could be better

Absolutely lovely food! These were the best pancakes and eggs royale that me and my boyfriend have ever had!

Bad service: “it’s you, the customer.” It turns out they lost the order and asked us to proof we paid. Given the choice available in Brighton I advise you to go elsewhere.

Lovely bacon roll but didn't like the English breakfast tea & £3 for one cup seemed very expensive.

The hot chocolate was not hot and didn’t taste of chocolate

Just reviewing the coffee. I ordered a flat white. It didn’t seems like a flat white. Was weak and mostly milk, in a large cup. Consistency too was not great.

Best coffee and breakfast in town. Lovely staff, fresh orange juice…just a great experience. Come here every time I come to Brighton. Never disappointed

Long waiting times, really bad coffee blend and dirty coffee cups. Our single espressos were served in Flat whites glass cups, which to us it looked like left over coffee in dirty cups. We couldn't believe that we were being served those! We won't be back and I won't recommend it.

Really disappointed by my experience in cafe coho today. Really sad to see the staff act rudely to a visually impaired couple. They did not accommodate or show any care for their needs. No guidance, support or kindness - it was surprising to see. Not to mention the overall attitude of the staff in there is rude anyway - creates an unwelcoming and ‘off’ atmosphere.

Got one coffee (pretty decent) and 4 cakes for my family - 2 were old and dry and had clearly been there too long and the other 2 were not as moist as you's expect. To charge nearly £25 for it is extremely disappointing considering the options available i would strongly recommend going elsewhere

Came for breakfast due to the good reviews. Ordered a cheese and ham toasty and pancakes for my wife. Hers was nice and big portions. They had forgotten mine as my wife had finished hers when I was offered a very overcooked toasty. They tried again but rushed it as it was a half cooked attempt this time. It tasted awful. Had to get a refund. Such a shame. Left hungry and disappointed.

This place is Ok. Food: It is clear that the ingredients for food are fresh. My Fiancé had the breakfast but half of it was cold, I had the bacon roll and opted to add avocado. The amount of avocado added for extra £3 was ridiculous. I could barely taste it. Service: we felt like an inconvenience to the service team. The cutlery was chucked down in front of us, no offer of condoments or napkins and just left to it. I would not visit here again.

Me and my friend ordered coffees but they were cold and not good. I have heard many things about this coffee but it was a huge disappointment for us.

My wife and I stumbled quite by chance across Cafe Coho in need of some lunch. We both ordered a blue cheese sausage roll, hot drinks, and a chocolate brownie. Food was reasonably priced and very tasty. Would recommend.

For the second time, today I brought my mother in her wheelchair to the cafe to be turned away. Owing to her health conditions you can appreciate it takes a lot of effort to get her out the house and it rarely happens. Twice now we have arrived before the kitchens advertised closing time (3.30pm on a weekday) expecting and needing cooked food to be told the kitchen is closed. No explanation as to why its been closed early (I could ofc understand an unforeseen breakdown of equipment etc) and surly delivery and no apology from the staff. Also, due to her wheelchair and the narrow premises it takes a lot of negotiating to get her into position - both times its been basically empty and we've been looking at and discussing the printed hot food menu (which has been left on the tables both times in spite of none of it apparently being available) where again staff could have kindly intervened and not waiting til I've come to the counter to order. Both times we've then had to reverse the difficult process of settling my mother and her chair (not that I expect it but also with no assistance in or out. Just rude comments regarding the space we are taking up). We won't come back and try again.

Lovely place with great coffee. Would appreciate them prompting us for large or small coffees, as we would have said small! And it was therefore more Exp than we anticipated.

Cosy, bustling café in a handy location in south lanes. Excellent hot chocolate and cakes. A little pricey but decent quality. They get very busy and there can be a bit of a wait for service at these times but staff are friendly and efficient. Go-to place when i’m in town.

Staff were lovely and it’s a nice vibe! My fiancé got the Eggs Benedict and thoroughly enjoyed it but I got the pancakes and bacon and it was a little boring - could have used some banana or fruit perhaps… the coffee was delicious though and the chai latte rocked my world ❤️

Coffee okay. As a kiwi, please don't advertise a long black and then make an Americano (they are different!). Super tasty pastries. Relaxed atmosphere apart from the girls behind the counter talking very, very loudly about life dramas- felt like I was intruding on their personal time rather than enjoying a coffee at a cafe.

Cafe Coho ia a popular cafe situated in Ship Street Brighton. It has seating inside and on the street outside. Some of the inside is up some very narrow stairs. It has a menu for breakfast, lunch and snacks all at reasonable prices. Tea and Coffee and other drinks are available too. Table service is available. Toilets are available but they are up the stairs.

Came here last minute for a family brunch, walked in with my Neice and the waitress looked at me and walked straight off ignoring me?? Waited about a minute by the door thinking she would be back but proceeded to avert her eyes so I walked over. Asked if there was a table for 6 and it was a flat no. I asked if anything upstairs with the response of no, it’s busy and only tables for 2 (even though I had just seen her pulling apart a table for for 4 when I first walked in??) No attempt to even go upstairs to check, or provide a possible wait time, just stared at me. I felt very awkward, even customers were staring. Staff need to learn some basic customer service skills.

In Brighton on business and stumbled on this cafe. Perfect eggs and salmon breakfast in a casual, easy atmosphere with a barista who is surprisingly good at singing along to the music. Very nice morning

Lovely little coffee and cake place

This little gem of a coffee shop is perfect if you’re an early riser as they are one of the few coffee shops to open at 7am in Brighton. Coffee was strong and tasty. Staff and customers were lovely and the decor is quirky and cool. If I lived in Brighton, this would be my every day cafe. Reminds me of the small coffee shops of Old Quebec where I grew up.

Stale cakes, disappointing considering the price - I didn't end up eating

Been going here since it opened ,waitress one of the rudest ever thought she maybe had been sacked from KAREN DINER,We set at table 1 order a avowith salmon, she brought it up shouted out Avo no one answer husband thought it was his tooked I noticed halfway through no salmon, then waitress arrives up with avo with salmon ,there had been a genuine mistake by my husband I then said to waitress any chance of his salmon she then started shouting he should not have taken the order then a nice waiter sorted it she then Brough up my husband salmon and litterly threw it on table and walked up mumbling ,please trian this girl in customer service as she will give your great place a bad reputation

Skip this place if you are coming for the coffee, it's a huge hit or miss depending on which staff member is making it. However if you're coming for food definitely visit, such decent prices for a great meal whether you're craving something sweet or savoury. The atmosphere is okay, this place is often incredibly busy which can ruin the vibe especially as the seating is all over the place. The staff are usually nice, only had a few rude staff interactions but nothing to write home about.

We had very good caramel iced lattes here to get out of the sun. Nice outdoor seating in the shade and good service. We didn't eat, but the food looks good!

Food was fantastic but the waitress was quite careless when giving us our drinks - putting her sleeve in one of them and spilling the replacement and walking away without apologising. One table was broken causing a coffee to spill down another customer. I wouldn't say it was a car wreck of a service we witnessed but still not ideal. No toilet roll in the loos either!

We stopped by for a coffee and chait latte and a treat. Drinks were good, staff was friendly. We decided to go for peanut butter brownie, which tasted good, but was a bit thick and would have been better if it was more moist or spongy.

Coffee was good but I don’t understand how they made the eggs benedict so bad. I don’t know what they did to the hollandaise but it wasn’t hollandaise

Good place for specialty coffee

We had Harissa Egg Benedict and Coho breakfast. I’m disappointed about eggs that needs to be runny when you have Egg Benedict. They did hard egg on that. Coho Breakfast was just alright. Bacons was overcooked. Beans were not juicy. Flat white coffee was amazing.

an important note to chef: egg benedict should have a runny egg so it can soften the muffin under it. Beside that good coffee, nice spot.
