Brilliant! Loved this 'olde mouldy' pub. Dan was a great barkeep and made excellent suggestions based on my taste (DARK). Word the street is it is owned by the patrons like a club or something and I have to say I was treated like one of the family and had a most excellent time hanging out having a few and talking Shte with the other patrons. My only regret is finding this place on my second to last night in East Grinstead. Next time I'll be visiting multiple times.

Really enjoyable venue for a few drinks. Lots of craft beers and ciders available. Comfortable alcoves to sit down and have a chat. Staff all friendly and quick to offer advice should you need it. Will definitely return.

Bar tenders are very strict in here. If you slur a word or sway they will refuse to serve you, which is odd seeing that it is a pub where people are served alcohol !

This is a brilliant real ale/ cider bar hidden away under the old mill in the centre of East Grinstead. Atmospheric and with some lovely drinking areas inside and out. Small and cosy with a superb choice of ales and ciders that change regularly, along with an impressive range of Belgian offerings that will gladden the heart of the connoisseur as well as the novice. A good selection of snacks and beer sticks. Taster 1/3 of a pint trays means you can sample before you settle on your choice. The barman was exceptionally friendly, funny and knowledgeable ( and also a good salesman as he extended our intended brief visit by quite some time ) A must visit if you’re in town and looking for some interesting refreshments.

This micro pub is a hidden gem. It’s in the basement of an old mill just off the main shopping street and is a great place for a chat and a drink. If you love craft beer there is a great choice and John and the team keep providing new beers from the Sussex and beyond. There’s also a great choice of gins from Sussex. There’s a regular line up of live music to just top this off. It’s become my local.

We were recommended by a friend. We only had drinks. It is a bit quirky but interesting and worth a visit.

Came across this place by chance during a visit to East Grinstead recently and decided to give it a try and I'm certainly glad that I did. It's downstairs in the Old Mill just off the high street and is a quirky and interesting place. It has a great selection of cask and keg ales (many of them local) along with a huge selection of bottled beers. I understand they do serve wine as well. Will certainly be visiting again next time I am in East Grinstead.

The Engine Room is a family-run micropub hidden beneath the streets of East Grinstead. It is littered with quirky, personal touches throughout it's hidden rooms, snooks and bar area. Superb selection of local ales, ciders, beers and gins - accompanied by extremely friendly staff. If you're looking for a slightly different experience, a place like no other or a quiet and cosy environment than seek out this pub! Live music every other Wednesday too :)

We really enjoyed our visit to the Engine Room. It's a great adidtion to East Grinstead and is unlike anywhere else in the town. Staff are friendly and welcoming. There's a great selection of beers and ciders - most of which are local. Lots on tap and also bottles and cans available too. Wine's available too and bar snacks. The atmosphere is very cosy, with music that's not too loud so can still chat. We'll be back!

The Engine Room is in the cellars of The Old Mill and well worth seeking out. This was our second visit and one of our main reasons for returning to East Grinstead. It still is. It is a tap room for High Weald Brewery but not restricted to them. Great bar staff and great ales on tap. Charcoal Burner Stout was my favourite and if you speak to the barman, there is also the same with chilli. Excellent. Unusual setting and snacks provided. We'll definitely be back.

Use to order quite a bit from here and the food was always really nice. By far my favourite chips and cod. Recently not to sure what’s changed but ordered last week and the chips were cooked in old oil, thought maybe it was a one off so ordered again but this time 90% of the chips were cooked in old oil and the cod was just quite dry. Ordered a large cod and looked like it was a small. It’s a shame but think I’ll be looking for another chippy and maybe try one last time in a few months. The employees that deliver are very well mannered and friendly.

Possibly the worst piece of cooked fish Ive had. Soggy on the top and like shoe leather on the bottom - Not sure how that can be achieved
