Terrible gym plus sauna that doesn’t work likely because keeping the temperature low saves money. What was once Wickwoods with a lovely quality atmosphere is now a corporate David Lloyd -just like any other gym yet paying a premium, this is really unacceptable and unfair on existing customers who kept wickwoods going. Younger folks are paying less for membership so others have been told. They’ve made the gym bigger but it’s just the same as before because David Lloyd increased numbers! There is definitely a divide of customers in this gym. You are just treated as a number at this gym.

Very disappointed with this club considering I've been coming to this club now for about 4 and 1/2 years. Recently I had a pair of Armani flip flops stolen from me in the swimming pool area and to top it off with then 2 days ago I had my beats by Dr. Dre earphone case stolen. I went to reception and reported it straight away and they told me they was going to sort it out yesterday. I came in there and asked them what are they going to do about it and they told me there's nothing they can do about it cuz they have no CCTV in the gym and I would have to contact the police myself and go down that road. So I'm very disappointed in the outcome to be fair and I may be now thinking about moving somewhere else I just wanted to let everybody know that if you leave anything on the floor by gym equipment you must have picked it up immediately. Otherwise it will be stolen off of you. This is not a good club to come to now. I don't think whereas before this matter would have been sorted out and the person who was responsible. Should have been ordered to leave the club as its people's property. Why should I have to contact the police when it's down to them? It's a club and they have no CCTV in the gym whatsoever. It's an absolute joke none of this would have happened 4 and 1/2 years ago when Lee owned the gym. It's just a shame David Lloyd has taken over because otherwise it would been a very good health club to come to now it's gone downhill rapidly

If I could give this 0 stars I would. DO NOT JOIN DAVID LLOYD WICKWOODS Facilities have been broken for over a year: - Pool is shallow and cold - Hot tub is cold - Gym has hardly any equipment apart from “e gym” equipment - Sauna is ice cold - Showers are cold - car park is always full and people have to park on the road for their vehicle to get damaged, or miss their class (and then get a strike for missing the class) - instructors are leaving Renovations have made the club worse and nothing is ever working. Not what you what to pay a premium price for. We’ve been promised it’ll be fixed of course, but it hasn’t Most of the reception staff just don’t care (can’t really blame them, this is a management issue) I had to jump through hoops to get them to cancel my membership early - they let me off for two months which is the least they could do. When trying to cancel my membership, I was spoken to by a salesman who tried to convince me to stay which was annoying. If you’re looking for a luxurious health club, join Natural Fit or another country club. If you’re looking for a good gym, join PHX, fit lab, or even Pure Gym (has better gym equipment)

I don't enjoy paying a lot of money to be treated like garbage. It was good a good gym with pool but now terrible. When I joined back in February 2024 it was the closest gym with a pool to our house; even though it was quite expensive then it was nice, quiet and had enough equipment. The pool was small but you could book your own lane which was great. It was good for the first month or two then started to get neglected. The changing rooms and gym are very dirty now (less clean than K2 or Triangle) and i go various times of day and it is always very dirty, especially in the changing rooms where dirt comes in from muddy shoes. The Air con hasn't been working in the mens changing room for at least 2 months now and various mold is growing out of the tiles in the shower area. They are about to close the pool for 3 months but are not offering a discount to the rate I am paying. So now its full price for a sub-standard gym with no pool and covered in dirt. We took the offer to go to the Marina to use the pool but the marina is very bad compared to K2 or Triangle (both the facilities and cleanliness are worse) and I couldnt get in the pool due to classes there. I did send my concerns in to the david lloyds email and the best they could do is offer for me to pay £80 extra per month to not attend while the pool is being renovated, they are not allowing a reduction in rate or allowing me to cancel membership. The shower gel smells nice. The chips were good if they still sell them. The pool and cafe staff are nice and friendly and i went to one class which was good. Update 31Jan25 there are no pool or cafe staff any more.

Wouldn’t waste money joining this gym. Before David Lloyd took over it was a lovely country club. Now DL has taken over it has gone majorly down hill. The steam and sauna are half the size they used to be and are both literally cold. The door in the sauna has a massive gap, who designed that…? The swimming pool if you are tall is very hard to swim in as it’s so shallow your legs just hit the bottom!! The changing rooms smell of sewage and the showers are freezing. Ladies, if you wash your hair be prepared to wait for ages to be able to dry it, there are 3 hair driers for the whole changing room!!!! I waited 35 minutes to dry my hair. The gym has two squat racks so good luck getting on them. No smith machine, hardly any machines for leg workouts. The classes get booked up months in advance so you can NEVER get onto them. When the outdoor swimming pool was open you would have to book 3 weeks in advance to get a 20 min slot - then if the weather was awful you would get a strike for not attending it. They are trying to over populate a building that is not big enough. Not to forget to mention the cost of the membership for all of this poorly designed new club. I would avoid and join somewhere else especially as they are putting their fees up again soon even tho it’s so over priced as it is. Sorry David Lloyd but you are going to loss a fair few valuable long term members.

Don’t get scammed by joining this “health club” My boyfriend and I joined in April 2024 and was not told about the extensive renovations and reduction of facilities that would come in the year. The club underwent phase 1 of the renovations in August which involved the men’s changing rooms being relocated to what can only be described as a dirty, small shed. Along with this, the indoor pool, hot tub, and sauna was closed and the outdoor spa garden had repeated temperature issues with the sauna and hot tub. After sticking with the club through phase 1 and continuing to pay a full price membership (no compensation was offered from the club) the phase 1 renovations are complete as of December 2024, however there are several issues with the newly refurbished facilities. 1. the new men’s changing rooms showers are cold, which means my boyfriend has not been able to shower at the club since August, as the temporary changing rooms showers were old and filthy, and the new showers are cold. 2. The new indoor sauna is freezing. Between 50-60 degrees because of a new “citrus wall” they’ve added. there is a large gap in between the floor and the door which means the sauna remains cold. 3. The new indoor hot tub is freezing. We’ve been repeatedly told that “it’ll be fixed” but of course it has not been for a month now (and was always cold before renovations) 4. The classes have been reduced and it’s near enough impossible to book on to an in demand class - and when you do, the temporary “high impact studio” - is a tent in the car park, in freezing cold January! (Bearing in mind we are paying full price for these facilities) 5. The gym renovation is subpar and not what you’d expect from a “luxury health club”. No smith machine, hardly any plate loaded machines, a lack of weight plates, the list can go on. Even Brighton David Lloyd which is a fraction of the price has better gym equipment (and a warm sauna + showers) 6. Lastly, with the influx of members that have signed up, there is no space to park our car, with members having to park in the road - both dangerous and inconvenient 7. It’s not a nice environment, everyone is dissatisfied which makes it a negative experience when coming to the club. We have been told that everything will be fixed soon / next month (which is what we’ve been told for months), however it begs the questions: Why have I been paying full price for 10 months if everything will be fixed next month? My boyfriend and I are desperately trying to cancel our membership and leave the club as are many others. We’ve been redirected to an online chat bot, 2 managers, and are still waiting for a call from the general manager to let us know if we can get out of our membership - constantly being messed around. So save yourself the hassle and join elsewhere!

I have been a member for a couple of years. Previously Wickwoods was amazing. Since taking over, David Lloyds have undertaken a complete renovation. Since completion of phase 1 (which took over 3 months of patience) the spa pool, indoor pool, showers, and sauna are all freezing. No compensation has been offered to loyal members for the huge disruption and failed attempt at delivering what they promised including basic necessities of a gym like a warm shower. And to top it off prices are being increased. Perhaps Wickwoods will be great again in time but right now I’d avoid.

Beautiful setting with wonderful views. Some of the waiting staff seemed unhappy in their work. Lots of management staff wandering about.One lady with coloured hair clearing tables picking up as much as she could not using a tray (Health and Safety) We waited 40 minutes for meal. Scrambled Egg over cooked. Crayfish on flatbread tastless. Would we return NO. Would rather go to Cafe further down

I’ve not stayed here yet so can’t rate the rooms but had a lovely family lunch recently, food was so fresh and tasted incredible. Often at these types of venues service can let them down, but not here, nothing was too much trouble and everyone was so helpful. This feels like a hidden gem and I’m looking forward to visiting and staying around Christmas.

They clearly love what they do and are passionate about every aspect of a wonderful club. This was my second visit and nothing was too much trouble. Previous visit was as a guest of friend and included a Sunday lunch, arguably one of the best roasts I have eaten in Sussex recently... superb. Thank you Ellie & Zeba.

I personally never heard of this country club. It was only that it kept appearing on my Facebook page. We had our 35th wedding anniversary looming and I did some homework looked at the a website looked very good and Tripadvisor and there was some negative reviews but on the whole it was pretty good so I made my booking and in the comments I chose to put that it was special occasion, we chosen this place for our 35th wedding anniversary lunch we were quite excited about coming. We arrived and it was good. We were offered a table outside or inside and we sat outside and then we had to wait sometime for drinks to be taken and on receiving the tapwater I have never seen a glass bottle with so many grubby fingerprints all over it so I asked the young man if you could change it for clean one as it wasn’t acceptable, which concerned me that obviously they were justfilling the bottles back up and not actually washing them thoroughly Proceeded to have our drinks drinks and then I said to the young waiter could you please take our food order to which she said no sorry he didn’t have a pen and paper and another member of staff would be over , 10 minutes later another member of staff came took the order give her credit I think she was quite rushed of her feet because she seemed to be the only person that had any idea of what’s was going on so took our order. The food came lovely plated , mine wasn’t particularly very hot but actually I wasn’tgoing to saying anything as it was special occasion I suppose only my main complaint is that I’ve actually made a point in the comments saying it was for a special wedding anniversary and there had been no recognition of this and I am not expecting anything in the way of free drinks along those lines but normally a Message or something on your desert plate is iced on . So makes me wonder why they ask in comments if you have any requests and then they take no effort to take any notice of this,It is very minor point but it was for a wedding anniversary I wish had chosen somewhere else on that basis and wait times I would not go back again and as I understand it’s closing down at the end of this month anyway so I won’t have that worry about going there again .

Wickwoods is a beautiful countryclub in a gorgeous setting. The people are super friendly and warm and it has a nice feel to the place. With works due to start, I hope it retains the current feel that is harmonious with the surrounding nature. The outdoor spa is a particularly nice feature to enjoy and I look forward to seeing the renovations. The gym is a bit small but normally isn't too crowded and again, is due renovation. Looking forward to seeing the upgrades.

Gorgeous setting in beautiful gardens and staff polite but ……… service was incredibly slow. We had to chase our drinks, then get someone’s attention to order a coffee and ask for the bill. Also had to move our own desert plates to another table as no-one ever came to take them away. The food was good, although I expected more choice of vegetables with the roast I think adding a 12% service charge automatically to the bill is cheeky and a bit of an insult. They rely on customers not wanting to cause a fuss asking for it to be taken off. I’m happy to pay a service charge if I’ve had attentive service. Definitely need more staff in this restaurant

Very disappointing. We asked for no fish, but was still served salmon. The filling options were lazy. Waiters not attentive, had to wait 30 minutes for a refill of tea, and the same for an extra pot of jam. Massively lacked the luxury feel! No finishing touches that you'd expect at an afternoon tea . Service was extremely poor! Wouldn't recommend. Shame we spent £60 here!

I know you see a lot of reviews claiming they've just had the best roast ever, but this was actually the best roast I've had. Me and the Mrs go all over Sussex trying roasts and this place is in 1st place. The staff were friendly and approachable, the setting is beautiful and the food is delicious and full of flavour. Highly recommended.

My wife and I came here for lunch yesterday. We were very disappointed. The service was slow to non existent. It wasn't a very busy restaurant but even so attracting attention from staff was very difficult. Service was very slow. There were at least four different waiting staff going back and forth but no one looked in our direction or seemed interested in us. My lunch was fine and I had no complaint with it. My wife ordered a quiche which was burnt on top. She was offered a replacement and chose something different. I eventually caught someones eye and got the bill, sadly no one came to the table so I walked up to the service point in order to pay. I did mention that the service was poor and the waitress said that they had been busy with a conference next door. (No apology) I was very sorry to have inconvenienced them with our custom. Obviously we know our place from now on and it won't be here. If you have a conference and a restaurant open at the same time perhaps adequate staffing of both is a good idea. I see from a previous review that slow service was a source of irritation. Hopefully management will take the hint and address the problem. This was our first and last visit. First impressions do count.

High expectations for dinner for my husbands 70th birthday. We waited over 45minutes to get warm bread, it arrived cold, sent back and finally after approx one hour had warm bread,butter olives etc. Starters came 15 minutes later. Main course arrived again after a considerable time and beefburger was luke warm, chips ultra crispy and obviously from a packet (my quess would be the same supplier as McDonalds). Sent back but husband and friend had eaten their dinner before a replacement sent. I didn't want to be eating alone so the evening ended with me very cross. Why was there such a problem??? Our guess is the kitchen couldn't cope as they also had a 15+ person birthday party in the restaurant who took priority over other dinners. Expensive, poor quality food and unheated plates. Food left to stand too long before being brought to customers. Complained to the manager as we were leaving,he took our details and promised to look into complaint and ring me within a couple of days after he had spoken to his team. Surprise , surprise I am still waiting for the phone call 11 days later. This restaurant should be ashamed of themselves. My husband's 70th birthday was ruined and to add insult to injury I was so hungry on returning home I had to cook!

I was amazed at the quality value and imagination of the set lunch menu. The smoked salmon starter was a delight, the braised beef main absolutely perfect and a very fine creme brulee with, and I love it, a top like really hard. Delightful service. Certainly has become a VERY important eating place near Henfield. If you havn't tried it go as soon as possible you will not be disappointed.

It is one of the hidden little gems of the whole Sussex. Located in a very quiet yet beautiful and charming forest, Glass House is one of the "must see" places. The food is really amazing, beautifully presented and simply delicious. Staff and service are truly amazing. It's a perfect venue for any special occasion, you can't go wrong !!

Had a wonderful afternoon tea with my daughter on Sunday at The Glass House Overlooking a lovely garden,we were able to sit outside under cover and enjoy the lovely scones, sandwiches, savouries, and lastly the scrumptious cakes,which were served by Kayla. The service couldn't have been better with frequent offers of more tea or coffee. It was a lovely relaxing afternoon that almost went into evening. Would definitely go back again. This was a totally wonderful experience, with attentive service in a glorious location - on the restaurant terrace. There were five of us, and we ranged across a selection of starters and mains. All were absolutely first class - definitely Bib Gourmand standard. There was a tie for starter of the day between a deconstructed prawn cocktail with crispy prawns, and the baked baby camembert. The portions are generous so we were all able to sample them, as we were the mains of an amazing pork dish, a sumptuous chowder and perfectly cooked duck. I don't have the right sort of memory for the proper names of all the dishes, but all five of us enjoyed our choices, and the tastings we had of each others. This is really fine dining, at modest prices, in a lovely setting with great service. We glimpsed the afternoon tea service on the way out: we'll be back for that.

The first thing that you note about this restaurant is it’s location, being part of the Wickwoods Country Club, then when you drive there you note it’s rural setting and the smart building, and then when you arrive inside the restaurant you cannot fail to notice the huge glass roof that provides such a light and airy ambience in which to dine. When making the reservation for my daughter and her partner, and my partner and myself, I did specify that I wanted a table in the main part of the restaurant, rather that patio which was under canvas. We were not disappointed: indeed we marvelled at the tasteful illumination of the glass roof, and the quality of the tables and settings underneath.We studied the menu taking our time to choose the right plates, and the right wine. We ordered a bottle of the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc which was £23.50 (this is a price that we regularly pay for wine and within our budget range), my partner and I were the only ones drinking wine, as my daughter was driving, and her partner was abstaining. During the meal we ordered another round of drinks and my partner and I had a glass each of the same wine.Starters: My daughter - Panko Breaded Squid, Chilli Jam My daughter’s partner - Sourdough, Ciabatta, Sundried Tomato Focaccia, Rosemary Oil, BalsamicMy partner - Baked Baby Camembert, Chutney, Chargrilled SourdoughMyself - Tempura Prawns, Asian Salad, Soy, CorianderAll were excellent, but I can only tell you more about my plate: the three tender and hot prawns with perfect light and crispy batter, and the very small and crunchy Asian salad were both delicious. With mains to follow including sides, I didn’t expect to need more than this small plate to start.Mains: My daughter’s partner - 8oz Trenchmore Farm Beef Burger and bun (the Chilli Jam, Tomato, Gherkin, Baby Gem Lettuce were ALL REMOVED). To that very basic burger, Bacon and Cheddar Cheese were then added, this was served with fries.The rest of us each chose the Pan Fried Sea Bass, Roasted Tenderstem, Lemon and Olive Tomato Salsa, and Orzo Pasta.Sides: a portion of Chunky Chips and a portion of Seasonal Green Vegetables.Whilst we waited we sat and chatted, it was good to soak-up the atmosphere and enjoy the occasion. Then the main plates were served; I would say at this point that the quantity of food on the plate was a lot less than we would normally serve at home, or be served with at some other restaurants.* Those awaiting sides were sure that they would arrive soon, but it quickly became obvious that there was an issue. We signalled another waiter and asked him to investigate, and he disappeared off and then our waitress reappeared after a couple of minutes. Our waitress apologetically advised that the sides had been missed from the order, and that the kitchen was now preparing our sides and they would be ready in “About five minutes”. The three of us had already started eating our fish: as it was ready to eat and would have not been improved by letting it get cold. I must admit I was annoyed and when questioned whether the sides were still required my initial reaction was to cancel mine: as half of my meal had already been eaten. My annoyance got the better of me and I pointed out to the waitress that I would have finished my meal by the time the sides were served. My daughter decided she would have her chunky chips, so I decided that I would have my green veg side which I intended to share with my partner.By the time the missing sides appeared I had indeed finished my main and my partner had her last mouthful to finish, so my partner and I ate the veg side on its own. The tenderstem broccoli and asparagus were particularly good, cooked to absolute perfection and the side was steaming hot. Although much enjoyed it would have definitely been better if served with the main plates. The chunky chips were equally excellent, and we all had a few of these as finger food.The waitress had offered to strike the sides from the bill, which I said was not necessary, but indeed they were the first two entries on the itemised bill which we paid including the 12.5% service charge. The waitress was obviously mortified that the mistake had been made and I will, say for my part, that I should have been less visibly annoyed, and more understanding of what was a simple mistake. So it is apologies from me for making the waitress feel worse than she already did.Having eaten the mains and sides I decided dessert was in order, so I ordered a Peach Panna Cotta. To be honest the meal to that point had not sated my appetite, but others were too full to have dessert and settled for coffees instead. My desert was very good indeed; very refreshing with a boule of peach ice cream to top it off.Despite the mishap it was a really good meal in a superb setting. *Sometimes quantity is less important than the quality and the taste of the food, and to be fair what I had was absolutely gorgeous (others were of similar minds I’m sure).

Overall it was good but there are some aspects which could be better. The quality of the cakes was fabulous it was the savoury that lets it down. Firstly there is not enough savoury to balance it out. A couple of sandwiches and some little buns and crackers with a very nice truffle mayonnaise. There is no meat option for the sandwiches, a nice beef and horseradish would be good. Perhaps they could add in a sausage roll or similar or change one of the scones to a savoury one. Also, the Prosecco or champagne option which is more expensive is instead of tea which seems odd - should be in addition.For now I probably wouldn’t have afternoon tea there again unless the menu changes.

We joined one of the festive meal evenings that was accompanied by a pianist who had a varied repertoire. Christmas hymns and songs and a gentle version of some pop classics. Very relaxing. Our meal was very good. The watercress soup was smooth and tasty and my partner had smoked salmon which he enjoyed. I had sea bass for main and my partner had the turkey. Both were very good and were followed by a home made cheesecake and some apple crumble. Then coffee and mince pie. Pity we couldn't dance the calories away but it was an enjoyable evening. We were not rushed and service was attentive.

We have eaten here twice in recent weeks and have been really impressed on both visits. We had a formal lunch which was outstanding and then last night had a ‘substantial meal” in the bar area. This was only £6.00 per person so we were expecting a light snack. However, we were really impressed by both the quality and quantity of the food that we received. The service was also excellent, but this was no surprise as the staff at Wickwoods are always superb. Thanks to all and Merry Christmas.

We visited recently on a Sunday for a roast dinner with another couple to celebrate a 30th birthday. The service was A*, atmosphere beautiful and food outstanding. The Glass House have a beautiful setup outside, which is undercover and heated. Would certainly recommend.

The staff have worked so hard in making sure the entire club was beautifully presented after our 2nd lock down. Their kindness and professionalism is exemplary. The christmas decorations are beautiful and lifted our spirits ,it all felt very joyful. The Glasshouse food was absolutely great . The whole visit was such a treat. Thank you to all tne staff, admin,cleaning,gardeners,trainers,kitchen staff,management. I think you all and the club have given many members a great experience this year under difficult circumstances. We are very fortunate to have such a facility as this.

Everything excellent as you's expect from Wickwoods. Lee has made this feel the safest place in Sussex during the Covid scare with his attention to detail and planning. From the drive up to the car park to the surrounding grounds. You could have been or thought in the middle of nowhere. Not a problem the Glasshouse is a fantastic venue situated within the Country Club.The service is five star attention to detail is just right your not forced along its at your pace.As regards the food I had the Roast Beef cooked to perfection along the the veg. Top it all gravy on tap what more could you want.Deserts as divine in all aspects and the various beers accompany the food perfectly. Then you can just look skyward in the restaurant and watch the clouds roll along.Seating is just right your not squashed in tables are well placed whether a large party or simply just two.Highly recommended in all aspects venue, food and price. The venue was like driving into the forest in the middle of no where then you find this Gold Mine.You park the car and smell of food hits you in best possible way !! OK missed main reception ending up in Country Club. Didn't matter staff were polite and helpful pointing us in right direction through the club.The restaurant was perfect well spaced tables made you feel you weren't on top of each other if a large party of six or just two of you.Staff attention to detail was just right you were in control from start to finish. They did not mind at all of your pace fast or slow.I went for the roast beef perfectly cooked melted in your mouth. As for the veg accompanying the beef perfectly cooked to the right texture and the bonus Gravy on tap especially if you flood the plate as I do. So you can't go wrong in any aspect nothing was a problem.You can sit back look to the sky watch the world go by or simply watch the trees move in the breeze with 360 degree view available that's why its called the GlassHouse.The beers available compliment the food just right then there is the pudding yum yum yum.Planning a revisit at a later date but if in the area would recommend a visit even if its just Sunday Roast Value for money great food,quantities of food on the plate were just right.....the plate was clean in the end!!

My partner and I were looking for a higher class restaurant to visit for Valentine’s Day to really make the day special. We were both working on the 14th, and they were fully booked, so we visited the day before. I could not rate the service any higher, and as a waitress myself, that’s high praise!Thank you to all the staff who made it such a fantastic night. From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed by every member of staff. There is just the right amount of attention to “leave you alone” time which we both noticed as we felt we had enough time to talk and have a good night, but also knew someone would be there is we wanted something.The free Valentines dessert was also a massive plus!Can’t fault this place. We were extremely pleasantly surprised. Thank you to all of you! Also, extremely gorgeous interior!

Being a lover of fish & chips and travelling a lot for work I get the chance to visit heaps of chippys across the country. The majority serve decent (but not great) food so it's a rare treat to come across one that really stands out from the rest. After reading the rave reviews for Mr Chippy I decided to give them a try and they did not disappoint! The (skinless) cod was moist and delicious with a perfect (not too heavy) coating of crispy batter. And unlike the regular soggy chips most other chippy's serve these were soft and moist with a light crispy edge! I was also very impressed with the service! They were flat out preparing a large delivery order when I came in but still had the time to greet and serve me in good time! I have now marked it as a favourite on Google Maps, and will be back!

We were disappointed when we ordered takeaway fish and chips last night. It was soggy and chips looks just reheated. It so expensive with the price we paid for. It wasn’t the same anymore. We are now put off going there.
