We were a group of 4 adults visiting on Sunday 16 February for Sunday Roast Lunch. Two of us had roast beef, one had roast pork and one had nut roast. Everyone agreed the food was delicious, the main course portions were so large three of us couldn't finish everything on our plates. We each had a different dessert and those too were delicious. The service was very good. I look forward to going back on a weekday to trying out their normal menu. We had a very humorous and friendly chat with Mark the manager too. It was very busy; the earliest booking we could get was at 16.00 so if you want an earlier time on a Sunday you'll need to book well in advance. It's only a short walk to St James Park so a good place to go for a pre-match , or post-match meal.

Was looking to get in in the end of restaurant week and saw a FB post for here, was the last night. Having been for Sunday lunch previously, booked a 7pm slot. Forgot how good this place was. £25 for 3 superb courses. House wine, £26, par for the course. We were seated upstairs and both the male and female waiters were top draw. I had goats cheese and chutney followed by gammon in mustard sauce with black pudding mash. Other half had a home made burger. Finished off sharing a brownie and fruit crumble. Total bill including service charges £82. Not a lover of service charges but was assured this went to the staff and would have tipped that anyway. All round good experience. Top food service and ambience. Thank you all!

Looking through the restaurants participating in the Newcastle restaurant week and seeing the Earl of Pitt Street on the list, we decided to book. It's been a while since our last visit. We arrived and were shown to our table by an attentive and friendly waitress. The drinks order was taken, and they arrived quickly. We ordered a starter and mains course, as we were not sure if we would have room for desert. The sun was dazzling my wife due to the position of the seat. Mark the owner noticed this and suggested he put a seat at the end of the table which she appreciated and i thought was a nice touch from our host. The starters were very tasty and perfect size for us. I had the pav bhaji, which I would recommend. After a nice break, the main courses arrived. I had sea bass, which was cooked perfectly. We then checked the deserts, and both decided to try the fruit crumble with custard. Again, this was very tasty and a generous portion. This visit reminded us of how good the food is, and we won't leave it so long before returning.

Was out last night with my boss and her husband, our colleague and my wife! I tend to try and organise restaurant week at independent places and was glad to return to the Earl of Pitt Street. We all loved our food - most of us had the pork soy bau choy (Asian pork with lettuce cups) for starter, and I had the gammon with black pudding mash for mains. My wife is lactose intolerant and was so happy to have Indian options for the starter and main as usually she can't find places that are dairy-free. We all went for dessert - I was so full that I took my crumble home but that just meant I had the breakfast of champions this morning! Service was fab and prices definitely worth it for the 3 course option. I've not tried other days like the Sunday roast yet but after a couple of visits so far where it's been great, I'm definitely looking forward to returning!

Highly recommend reserving a table like we did though as the phone was none stop with people trying to get booked in. We decided after looking at various venues to celebrate our father's birthday here (84yrs). The food was very good and the staff very attentive, sadly let down by the manager chastising staff infront of customers. Mistakes can be made along with learning curves for younger staff members. There is a time and place and a quiet word to the side should have been made out of earshot of customers. Well done to staff members for no negative response infront of customers to their colleagues. Yes, there was a learning curve but could have been dealt with very differently, it spoilt my experience of the venue.

We had high hopes for Sunday lunch here but were very disappointed. We booked in advance. When we got there at the right time, it was chaos. The restaurant was very busy and the owner/manager was stressed. He was behind the bar and shouting at the staff as they were trying to get tables cleared and people seated. He said they had people turn up early and had seated them?! We waited at the busy bar with a drink, no where to sit for a good 20 minutes. The other staff were lovely and apologised for our wait and said the food was lovely and to not worry. We got seated and waited a good half hour after this for our food. The roast beef was acceptable, could have been hotter. There was no French mustard. A dinner is £20, not cheap. We spent over £100 for 3 Sunday roasts, drinks and the 10% service charge, a disappointing expensive afternoon out! A shame. I have been here for food once before and it was lovely had fish and chips and sticky toffee pudding.

Having visited here years ago and being impressed, I have been patiently waiting to return. We visited during restaurant week and the place seemed quite full. We both opted for 3 courses at £25. We arrived at 6 ordering food and drinks not long after. Starters did arrive promptly and were lovely. Mains took a while longer, with people receiving food that was ordered after us. I looked around and the bar man peered back looking at our table. He came over and asked if we were still waiting for our mains. After a few minutes he appeared with them, hot and fresh, now 7.15. overall the food was great and I'd go back, service was good apart from the wait.

I went to The Earl of Pitt Street for a Restaurant Week lunch yesterday with my Mum and Dad. We went to The Earl for Restaurant Week earlier this year, and were attracted again by the choice and variety of the menu which once more definitely lived up to expectations! I had Pork san choy bao, spiced pork mince with lettuce cups and chilli jam to start and then Rajasthan royal biryani, onion bhaji, mango curry sauce and cucumber raita for main. My Mum had Salt and pepper chilli squid with seaweed, crispy onion and sweet chilli sauce to start and then Thai red vegetable curry with jasmine rice and flatbread for main. My Dad had The Earls’ Pav Bhaji, Indian vegetable stew with herb yoghurt to start and then North Sea beer battered haddock, hand cut chips, minted peas and tartare sauce for main. Me and my Mum were too full for a dessert, but my Dad thoroughly enjoyed the Sticky toffee pudding with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream. All of the food tasted fresh and delicious and the portion sizes were generous. I am dairy free, and the allergen menu and guidance was spot on. The staff are all friendly and professional and Michelle who served us was an absolute star throughout! I would definitely recommend The Earl of Pitt Street and will definitely be back soon!

I have been going for years and I don’t know if it was an off day or if there is a new chef but the food quality is not what it once was. The prices are definitely significantly higher which I don’t mind if it’s consistent and good quality but the prawn cocktail starter was 12 and roast mains almost 20 quid. The staff were very disinterested upstairs serving on and one bauked when asked what the veggies were in the veggie or vegan curry. Seemed unhappy she needed to consult the kitchen. One of us left a whole roast dinner and the question was ‘do you want a box’ not a question about the food being ok etc….. the gravy and chicken were both less tasty, the fish portion tiny for the cost and the curry less flavoursome than previous ones. The service was non- descript and almost rude. This is a shame as really like Mark, have always had good food and it’s been a reasonable venue cost wise. It’s a real shame.

I have visited the Earl of Pitt street many times for Sunday lunch over the years, but my experience today has left me absolutely not willing to return. We booked a table for 6 people at 3pm, when we arrived, baby in pram in tow, we were sent up the stairs but the staff at the bar. Absolutely no problem at all, we got ourselves upstairs with the pram. When we walked in to the main dining room where our table was, the owner looked at us as if we were aliens. He started to raise his voice and ask us why we had been stupid enough to come upstairs with a pram, it was all a massive inconvenience to him that he didn’t have a table where a pram would fit. Had the staff downstairs not just sent us upstairs I would have maybe agreed we had been better suited to sitting downstairs. He wanted to know who had booked the table, why I hadn’t said there would be a baby in a pram(?!) and got in my face saying ‘INFORMATION IS KEY’ My friend who is a new mother has never felt so uncomfortable or unwanted in a restaurant, she was nearly bought to tears. When I told him that the people downstairs had sent us up he said they were young and Inexperienced (not sure how his staffing competencies is our problem) I could go on about all the ways he over reacted, shouting at staff, ringing downstairs effing and blinding. We had to apologise to other eaters who had all ground to a halt to take in the uncomfortable scene. Even after all this, had he approached our table to explain he had been stressed and apologised, I think we would have been fine. But nothing. It’s such a shame as the food is stunning, atmosphere great, and decor beautiful. But today’s experience has left nor me or any of my friends and family Ever willing to return. My advice to the owner would be to inject some compassion and understanding into his management style, and an apology goes a long way. All the best.

We went on 26/9 day after my birthday expecting the a la carte, not to be they don’t serve on Tuesday, so disappointed. Bo the server spoke To the chef and he asked what we would have from the a la carte, I chose the lamb randani which was amazing and he went out of his way and rustled this up for me. I honestly couldn’t fault the service I had the Eton Mess and they even put a candle in it and both Bo, Katie and chef sang happy birthday. We can’t thank you enough we had a lovely afternoon and will definitely be back and maybe not be so demanding ha ha sorry girls

Treated my sister for her 60th birthday today. Didn’t realise it wasn’t a la carte during the week and my sister didn’t like burgers but wasn’t disappointed as Bo pulled out all the stops and asked the chef to cook her something special which he did and i had the delicious tacos from the lunch menu. Then Bo, Katie and the chef ( sorry didn’t get your name) sang happy birthday. It absolutely made her day very special - thankyou so much xx

Fabulous couple of meals here with friends and pup in tow. Really well looked after, great food and the dog got a lot of love 🐩🥰 Food is a mix of nicely executed Asian influence dishes and traditional British favourites. The tempura prawns are huge, juicy and crispy, with a very moreish noodle salad. The burger a decent size with goodb"normal"fries and the Sunday roasts really really generous portions with loads of gravy. Loved this place and the staff!

This is a lovely cafe with a warm, welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. It's a beautiful space, with a glass ceiling, so it light and cheerful, and the food is affordably priced and v tasty. I had a pot of tea and some toast, and it was yummy. This cafe really made me feel the warmth of a Christian welcome, without being exclusive or preachy - just friendly people serving nice food :)

Very rustic cafe in Heaton with great atmosphere. I went for a smoked salmon sandwich which came with slaw and tortilla chips. Possibly a bit expensive for what it is but I guess it’s like this everywhere now. They have a massive menu so I’ll definitely be back to try the pancakes and full English.
