Really great place. Excellent food, beautifully presented. Enjoyed the wine pairing, one pairing shared between two was perfect. Adam was a lovely host, friendly and attentive.

Visited 09/11/24. This is a lovely place to eat. The staff were extremely friendly. We had to wait a while for our table, but our server explained that it was unusually busy and that the drinks we ordered while we waited were now on the house... as were the small aperitifs they served us shortly after. The food was delicious, and I do mean all of it, even the ingredients I normally wouldn't touch with a barge pole. We had a lovely meal, and the staff were extremely considerate and knowledgeable of my partner's coeliac condition. The issue began once we got home when, shortly before bed may partner started being violently ill. She's coeliac as I said, so sometimes this does happen even in the most careful of kitchens, unfortunate but understandable cross-contamination - or so I thought. Not an hour later I was also violently ill, and our condition continued in to much of the following day. If I was to guess, I think the issue was the "That Chicken Pie", which was the only dish we both had. We ordered off the Set Menu (50% cheaper than the usual Saturday menu) which normally isn't available on Saturday, but due to a typo on their website, we believed was available (they let us order from it without batting an eye - as I said, really lovely people and fantastic service). That dish isn't available on the tasting menu used on Saturdays so if there was a complication, I imagine that's where it was.

Great place, was wanting to go for years but not had a chance. Finally been and not disappointed. Keep the good work up!

Took my friend for lunch for her birthday. Great experience start to finish, from the welcome at door to the friendly service through the meal to the amazing food. We chose the £25 lunch menu and what great value that was. The flavours blew me away from the hit of like and just sheer freshness of the crab tostadas to the warm of chilli and balances of spices in the sauce for the Thai curry sauce surrounding the perfectly cooked bass, perfection. A special shoutout to Adam our server who was so friendly and informative about the food he offer some of the best service I’ve experienced in Newcastle. I challenge anyone not to leave impressed.

gourmet food and great value for the quality - we went a la carte with a range of options and all superb with excellent cooking and a range of flavours and lovely amuse bouches also - lovely not too formal atmosphere and friendly service. a wider range of wines is perhaps the only improvement point

I'm not a fan of this type of food as I'm quite parky. But I must say from the minute I walked through the door myself and my wife were greeted by the staff who I must say were the best I've ever had to deal with. From start to finish they were unreal. The food was exceptional. 💯% I would recommend. Was my wife's birthday and you made both our night. Keep up the amazing work

Pretentiousness personified. Managed to get a table on a Saturday evening and were advised once seated that it was the £90 per head 9 coarse taster menu. Our own fault I suppose, we could have checked on line before booking. I am GF and we were advised that this was not an issue. The greeting on arrival and service throughout was fine. My issue is the food. A taster menu is supposed to showcase the chef's skills and ideally introduce the diner to new and unusual taste combinations or culinary techniques. What we got was basically a conveyor belt of food that could easily have been picked up off any supermarket shelf. Two of the GF substitutions were downright infuriating a 1 cm piece of sausage on a silver cocktail stick in place of the wonton, the sausage was basically a side / garnish from a later course. For another coarse my gf alternative was a tiny bowl of unseasoned, tasteless, porridge. When asked what I thought of it I simply asked if our always pleasant waiter had tried it. He hadn't and neither had the chef! Once tried by the chef he agreed with my comments. In summary poorly concieved and executed food at £10 a coarse. I can only assume the rave reviews come from those who are blindsided by the pretension and have not experienced an excellent or even good tasting menu elsewhere.

Everything from the food to the atmosphere & service was superb! It was a big occasion for us & we want to give a special thanks to our waiter Adam who made our experience even more memorable; he was so welcoming, friendly, efficient & helped us select our order to perfectly suit our tastes. This was our first time coming to Peace & Loaf (for the lunch menu) & we will definitely be returning back again to try more.

An amazing experience from start to finish. We were really taken care of right from entering the restaurant and the service was like nothing I had ever experienced. I had called ahead to notify the restaurant of my partners celery allergy and that it was her birthday. Straight away she was greeted with a happy birthday and the manager explained any alterations that needed to be made to any of the dishes. This was our first taster menu experience and the food with wine pairing was out of this world. An expensive treat but completely worth it to experience something truly this special. A really personal experience from the staff and an amazing night that I really couldn’t recommend more to anyone looking for a special treat!

Absolutely love peace and loaf, tasting menu makes you wonder what you are getting then when each dish comes it's like quirky heaven each course just as delicious as the last. The staff are all friendly and welcoming we will be back.

Excellent service, lunch set menus are very good values also presentation super. Love the art deco of the restaurant, it's my type of place to go. That's why we are all the way from London to come here just for lunch! Will definitely come back next time!

We thoroughly enjoyed our set lunch today served by the lovely Molly. The bar service was also excellent. My partner had the zero Mule which was a tasty non alcoholic choice and we shared a wonderful bottle of Spanish white wine. The Set Menu provided sufficient choice of beautifully presented and super tasty dishes at a very reasonable price. Altogether a wonderful experience at a gem of a restaurant with an unique ambience and great service. Not our first visit and we we definitely return!

Another amazing independent food spot in Newcastle. The cocktails are amazing the plum old fashioned was in another level smooth and easy drinking. The bread course was insanely good whipped beef dripping one of the best bread courses I’ve had. The starter the Baron Bigod needs to be a permanent feature as it was so good simple flavours but not over complicated but the flavours spoke for themselves. The main the chicken not pie the gravy I could have had a bucket of it , the crispy chicken was so good. My only downside was the aerated mash that’s personal preference tho it always has the starchiness and seems overly pretentious when there’s nothing wrong with normal mash and if there could of been some kale your sprouting broccoli it could of made it it the spot. The desert was peach and meadow and was just what I needed something light and refreshing. Can’t wait to find a day to come back and try another menu and discover more hidden gems. I hope Peace and loaf get some recognition from the Michelin guide, hopefully a Michelin bib gourmand then a star because I can definitely see it getting some recognition soon. Fab staff fab food

We have been here multiple times - but this is probably only the second time since Covid. Still feel it was a better restaurant when it didnt only have a tasting menu. Anyway - things have moved along and there was no longer a choice of tasting menus with differing numbers of courses - it's one menu with approx 13 item for £90. Wine pairing is pretty reasonable at £60 (I often end-up with the wine flight costing more than the food). Lots of the courses were interesting and good (the kipper bon bons, the slider, elements of the torched mackerel) but overall the quality gap between here and the restaurants with a Michelin star seems to have grown rather than shrunk. The bao bun was very greasy, a couple of the sauces over-powered the main ingredient. You would get better quality, value for money at House of Tides in our opinion. Our group of 5 were unanimous that this is the wrost meal any of us had had at P&L. A pity as we were planning on booking for New Year's Eve - now need to find another option.

We had a lovely set lunch menu, great service no waiting. Good portion size for fine dining and some interesting flavours, especially enjoyed the grapefruit, white chocolate and dill dessert. Would go again!

We went for my birthday lunch which is only 25pp for four courses which for the quality is great value. The food was outstanding as was the service from Jamie. It was lovely to meet Dave again and I really can’t recommend this restaurant enough. We will be back and love supporting this independent brilliant restaurant.

Wow! This is an experience! We both went for the tasting menu which just kept on giving. From start to finish each course tantalised our tastebuds. Our waiter was brilliant - I don’t know his name but he came from Falkirk, Scotland. Such a funny and attentive waiter- which made the experience ever greater! We were there for 3 hours so exceptional value for money. Lovely venue - very intimate and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend if in the Jesmond area. We were staying in Newcastle and caught a taxi there and just had to walk back as we were so full! Brilliant!

The food is excellent - we got the longer menu (£90 pp) and we weren’t disappointed with our choice. The “Caesar salad” course was definitely a highlight for me personally. Service was very good too, they were friendly and attentive. The reason for not giving 5 star though is that for the price you would expect a bit more in the way of atmosphere/decor. The interior is very simple, bland and not representative of the menu/pricing. We were there for just over 2 hours and I was in a bit of pain by the end of it because the chair was uncomfortable. After 3 cocktails the bill came to £230. For this price it is a special occasion place for us but doesn’t feel fancy enough to be remembered at the next special event. If I could put the food and the staff at a venue that was suave on the inside then that would be my go-to for every special occasion!

The best dining experience we've ever had! The food was phenomenal the wine pairings we're the best we've ever had and the service provided by Adam (hope I heard him right) was absolutely top notch he was a pleasure every time we spoke to him! We will definitely be back many times in the future.

From stepping through the door the service was impeccable. Staff were chatty knowledgeable and very attentive. The soundtrack for the night was also enjoyable some great background music. The taster menu and wine pairing worked really well together they certainly know their stuff. Would 100% highly reccomend this place.

Had the larger taster menu, most of which was excellent though a couple of the dishes were a little bland. If you have a big appetite, you will still be hungry after. The venue is relatively low key, simple and non- pretentious though for such pricing I'd expect a little more atmosphere. Nice wine selection, recommend the Dao as a balanced red. Cocktails and mixed drinks have WAY too much ice in, to the point where they are difficult to drink (though this may be so you can see the bubble-fee ice cubes).

Visited the restaurant during a recent stay in Newcastle. The food was delicious and presented beautifully we had the tasting menu with wine matching which was excellently explained by Molly who is a credit to Peace and Loaf. Have recommended the restaurant to family and friends can't wait to revisit.

While the restaurant with "Loaf" in its name might promise exceptional bread, my experience fell short of expectations. Both dishes featuring bread were disappointingly hard as stone, detracting from the overall enjoyment. Unfortunately, none of the dishes stood out as exceptional, leaving me without a compelling reason to return.

We had a great experience here a year ago so decided to return to celebrate our anniversary - and it didn’t disappoint! Fantastic food, atmosphere and service. All the staff were lovely, but our waiter, Adam, was particularly hilarious and brilliant 👏 We can’t recommend peace and loaf enough and will definitely be returning - 10/10!

I don’t usually write reviews for restaurants, but this one was absolutely spectacular. From the service to the atmosphere, and of course, the incredible food, this experience was breathtaking. I had some of the most excellently cooked seafood I have ever experienced and it was the perfect spot for valentines. If you are thinking about having an intimate evening out with your partner, there is NO BETTER place in Newcastle. We will be back!

I really can't fault this restaurant top class innovative food but in s warm friendly atmosphere.....the staff aren't over attentative but are ready and knowledgeable for any questions you have .... mitchellin quality food without being pretentious its just the best!

Christmas works party, absolutely fantastic food as always, Christmas tasting menu is a must

The service was good. The food is simply far too salty. There was a prawn salad dish and i could actually tasted granules of monosodium glutamate. Is it really necessary to put so much MSG/salt into a salad dish? I know restaurant do this so that people would order more drinks, but the amount of sodium they put in all the dishes was just far too excessive in general. I had to tell the waiter to reduce the amount of salt. We all know excessive Na is bad for health and i cannot understand why they do this!!

We've been coming to P&L for several years, their food is always amazing, the staff are lovely and the chef/ kitchen was particularly accommodating yesterday- offering to replace our final course for cheese as we aren't fan's of Xmas pudding. I wish we'd taken photos, I will next time. I'd happily recommend this for couples, families and friends. It's a very welcoming restaurant.

One of the best meals I've had in my life, and easily the best in the North East. Really impressive, unpretentious food cooked with talent and respect for the produce. The service was brilliant. Not only flawless and knowledgeable, but really going the extra mile with genuine personality, warmth and humour. Outstanding, I really couldn't recommend it more!

My husband and I went for the Thursday evening “Peace of Beef” special. In our visit, we had bread and butter, the chefs take of a prawn cocktail, an enormous (and sensationally delicious) beef Wellington. Followed by spotted dick for dessert. I cannot give this place enough praise. Every single member of staff that we encountered was lovely. That beef Wellington was that good, that my husband and I barely spoke a word to each other until we finished it. There were tables around us getting the taster menu, and that also looked really good! Seriously good food, great atmosphere and friendly staff. We will DEFINITELY be back.

Me and my wife booked for last night and opted for the 7 course tasting menu. What can I say other than superb from entering the restaurant to leaving we had a great experience. Food was amazing staff were attentive and knowledgeable. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Wow. What a superb experience. A stunning culinary experience and the service from the bar & being greeted, to our wonderful waitress and everyone in between was faultless. You are made to feel more than a guest and more like a friend. Very relaxed and genuine atmosphere. The food was stunning. Tasting menu had 13 courses (be sure to go in hungry as you get a lot for your money) and we were amazed at the stunning flavours and textures created. Wine pairing was superb also and nicely presented and explained by our attentive and lovely waitress. Stand out dishes for me were Bread & Spreads & Cauliflower Satay. Having eaten in 3 star restaurants, these dishes could easily have made the menu there. The bread and spreads was the most clever and stunning dish I have ever eaten. Thanks so much for a wonderful experience. The only surprise is you don’t have a Michelin star. Possibly due to a more laid back entrance but I really liked that. Not stuffy or pretentious at all and all staff very genuine and lovely. This is a hidden gem. I’ll be telling all who listen about this place and when I am up from London again, I’ll be sure to visit again. Thanks all for a wonderful and truly memorable experience.

So it's an odd one. For me 3stars - because it should be better. So compared to others it's very good, but the price is much more, so expectations are higher. And you should 'get what you pay for'. Our bill was £400 for the 3 of us. So it's an expensive night. And it was only 3 stars for that price. The food itself was very tasty, but not 'special' - only one dish was truly noteworthy (the cauliflower if you're interested). I was hoping for more 'wow' with each mouthful, but it wasn't there. Our initial host (I think his name was Dan?) was a very amiable Irish chap who acted as sommelier and truly gave us something extra - I hope someone feeds back to him how he truly raised the night for us. The other servers however had that missing quality we expected. There was little explanation of the dishes - it came across rushed and we had to look at the menu to figure out what we were eating. The restaurant isn't that large, so it would have been better if there was a little more 'hosting' - it truly changes the evening and the experience. This is again something I expect from a 'high end' restaurant, and thus the 3 stars. So would I go back? Well this is my second time, and I wasn't sure after the first as my experience was similar. But everyone deserves a second chance. Unfortunately for me, it's not worth the money and so I wouldn't go back. Sorry.

This has to be the very very best restaurant in the North East, and we are lucky enough to eaten at many other brilliant establishments locally. From the moment you walk through the door, the ambiance and decor and atnosphere is exceptional. The food was absolutely out of this world, a really great Birthday treat, which took us over three hours to enjoy fully. The imagination and creativity was awe inspiring . It was a fairly busy Friday night, with every table taken, but it has a cool relaxed vibe. I’d like to single out the synchronicity and team work of the serving team . They operate as such a seamless, and cohesive bunch, helping each other, making it all run so smoothly and with such passion

We ate here 18months ago and had the most incredible night. Since then we've been to D&P and H.O.T. Neither of which lived up to the memory of our first night here. In the interest of science we wanted to check that this was indeed the benchmark of fine dining in Newcastle and we were not disappointed. Every course had a wow factor to it and we were expertly looked after by Jamie who was brilliant throughout. The food, the atmosphere, the setting and the overall experience was brilliant. This will be our go to destination for a high end night out.

Visited for our anniversary and chose menu A for £45 each. My dietary requirements were catered for in advance which was amazing as I struggle usually. The chef was happy to adapt the menu as I chose the vegetarian menu but as I eat fish I asked if I could try the scallop. Every dish was explained and the flavours were unbelievable. Each dish was beautifully presented and gaps between dishes was perfect. Staff are very happy to discuss the menu and chat about the dishes. Can’t wait to go back when the menu changes.

very fancy restaurant but yet seems not very high strung and it's quite chill. our family got the taster menu and everything was prepared so delicately and precisely it was a great night. not everything I was keen on the taste of but that is somewhat to be expected with am experience like this. would go again

Lovely lunch had the taster menu with wine flight excellent value for money both the soup and scallop dish stood out for myself and my partner. Service and food quality were excellent if your in the area and want a fine dining experience without the price tag give Peace and Loaf a try we have been to Roots , Black Swan, Nathan outlaws to name but a few and honestly for a fraction of the price you can enjoy good food and service would definitely recommend.

Booking a birthday meal for a carnivore (with an intolerance to various nuts,) and three vegetarians (one of whom can't have dairy, and one of whom can't have dairy, soy or gluten) felt like an impossible challenge - but the team at Peace & Loaf were brilliant! The chefs adapted the long tasting menu for all of our requirements. The presentation was exquisite, and the dishes varied and beautifully cooked. We were made so welcome, and had a really lovely evening. The staff were attentive, and talked us through each dish - happy to answer our questions about interesting herbs and flavours. It was a expensive treat for us - but we felt it was excellent value for money, and well worth splashing out on, for a special occasion.

Tasting menu was phenomenal and they were able to cater for multiple food intollerances too (gluten, soy, dairy). Loved every bite!

The tasting menu was excellent, if it was worth £80 per head is in the eye of the beholder. But selling a £14 sauvignon blanc for £47 that's criminal.

Loved our lunch here, each dish was fantastic! The lamb in particular was very good. The lovely people that served us gave us a great background to each wine too.

Was slightly concerned it would be a bit too fine dining-y for me and my partner. But how wrong I was! We both had Menu A, seven courses, and it was absolutely incredible. First off, the food was 10/10. Second, we loved that the experience was spread over an hour and a half, with a new dish coming out every 10min or so, rather than the usual situation of trying to chat between mouthfuls and then finishing your meal in 15 minutes. The last thing to mention is that you definitely feel full after all those courses. They may look small, but we certainly left satisfied and didn’t really eat for the rest of the day. Will defo be returning!

Yum. We don’t go here often but we go regularly for special occasions. P&L just get it right. Excellent food excellent atmosphere excellent service and parking right outside. What’s not to love. Amazing creations delivered quickly and without fuss. Big up to Tom who looked after us this evening. I was licking my lips all the way home and still had nice flavours going on when I got there. A great spot near Newcastle / Washington way. We visited on the steak tasting menu night, and the food tasted fantastic. Natalia our waitress was very friendly and stopped to talk to us a few times about what else we could do in Newcastle whilst visiting. Good choice of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks (like mocktails). Free parking outside the restaurant too as we visited in the evening. Not much more to say apart from a must visit in the area!

Wonderful tasting menu experience in a restaurant with a unique interior design. Our waitress was friendly and very knowledgeable about the many dishes that were served. Absolutely must if you are a foodie. It was our first time but not last. The tasting menu is served at a leisurely pace to allow you to savour and enjoy each course. We had 12 courses - each one carefully thought out to complement the next. They were very accommodating with our allergies and dietary requirements which was very much appreciated. Make sure you leave enough time when booking to enjoy the courses - not having to rush them. The menus are seasonal and therefor change around 5 times a year, but I’m told they will have special menus from time to time. I adored the avocado and potato! It was stunning. I also loved the charcuterie course! You have to go and try for yourself.
