Chefs' Academy in Newcastle upon Tyne

If you are passing through Newcastle, this is a place to absolutely visit! This Newcastle College restaurant serves delicious food for very low prices. The selection of dishes is excellent. The dishes are perfectly prepared. We were impressed by the quality of the students' work! Well done to them.

Great food and you are helping the chefs and front-of-house staff of tomorrow perfect their trade. All at incredible prices, what's not to like.

The restaurant decor and outlook were really good with views to the west of the city. Immaculate with plenty of space between tables. Lunch was absolutely wonderful. The food was tasty and well presented. The wait staff were extremely attentive and polite. Very good value and a must visit! Will definitely go again.

I have been for food and drinks many times here and have always wanted the Sunday Lunch , was not disapointed . 3 of us all oppted for the medium size and it was more than enough so big that i couldnt order the desert . As you can not book we had a little wait Lyndasy seen to us and took us to the table She took the Mash and parsnips off the Bill as they were late coming out , i think that was very kind and great customer srevice by her . 100% Will be having my sunday lunches there from now on .

We have just had a wonderful dinner here and it not only met our expectations it went above and beyond. The food was really well presented and thoroughly delicious and flavoursome with a great selection of wine and beer. Superb value for money in a lovely atmosphere.

The food here was superb, served impeccably by well mannered trainee waiters and I can't praise it any higher than to say it knocks spots off just about any other restaurant I've been to ! My fish and chips were simply the best I have ever had and I hope that writing this doesn't mean we'll create a huge demand and never get booked in again ! My starter of mussels was equally superb and I was too stuffed for a pudding and had to sit back groaning as everyone else enjoyed theirs !

We’ve visited the Academy a number of times, never been disappointed. This venue is located within the Newcastle College where the restaurant can be found on the third floor. We found the food offering excellent value, the food has always been of quality snd comparable to that of any fine dining experience. We can’t recommend the Chefs Academy enough.

My Godson is one of the student chefs so went along to see and eat his food, definatly 5star👍, food was amazing, very high standard, presentation and students serving were very professional and smart intheiruniforms, booked to go back, would recommend the Acadamy for business lunch es.

How more people don't know about this place is beyond me. Quality food at a reasonable price and you get to help young people get qualified as well.

This is one of my favourite places! 🥰🥰 The foods were always nice & delicious from good & fresh material. The duck leg/ the pork chop being cooked with right timing control, was just well done and juicy. The front of house team is friendly and helpful via their hard working. I always went for seasonal menu, but I would try to book for special events which is quite difficult to book 😂

Had Christmas lunch here with m6 wife for the second year in a row. Once again the whole experience was excellent. Service was excellent, food was excellent and plenty of it. All for £22.50 per head. We will be back

We've been a few times now this student year & the service has improved each time. This week was a Taste of Tuscany, which was an aperol spritz on arrival followed by five courses, all for £25. The pork main, pictured, was very tasty.

Went with my husband to the Chefs Academy and both of us had the three course meal, what a bargain for exceptionally high quality food. It was the standard of a five star restaurant. All courses were full of flavour, we were both totally knocked out by the flavour within each of the dishes and even though i had no room Ieft I finished with the very impressive cheese board. Starters, mains and desserts...can't fault anything, staff very attentive, excellent service and for me the best place to eat in Newcastle. Really enjoyed the taste of the house white wine and my husband loved his beer. If you haven't been yet put it on your list of places to eat, you won't be disappointed. Newcastle's hidden food gem.

I can't believe I haven't been here before! Amazing food & great service. A special treat for my Mums 90th birthday & so glad we did it. 2nd year students providing this level of service & food should be so proud of themselves. A lovely atmosphere in a comfortable setting with freindly staff. You'd probably pay at least twice the price in a 'normal' restaurant for this quality of food. I can't recommend it enough & will definitely be back in the near future.

Myself and 5 other diners attended 'A Taste of Italy' event last night. The original offer was £16.50 for 3 courses and a drink, as I understood it, there should have been a choice of anti-pasta, main and dessert. When we arrived I noticed on the chalk board it stated £12.50, I didn't mention it but as far as I could ascertain from the staff later in the evening, this was due to there being no choice of anti pasta and subsequently dessert. The anti pasta was a sharing board of Italian meats, anchovies, olives etc and some breads which the veggie diners were unable to eat, no alternative was offered. Before we even got the mains, we were pressured to decide what we wanted for dessert, there was a choice of Tiramisu and Panacotta. I chose Panacotta, I don't know how many others on the table asked for Panacotta, but the waitress came back and said there's only 3 left and then there's only 1 left and this was still early in the evening. The waitress said is that okay and I said no as I didn't like Tiramasu, so she said she would send the supervisor, David, over. David made some excuses about not having all the produce he needed and said he'd reduced the price as a result, I said paying £12 for just a bowl of pasta or a pizza because you can't eat the starter or dessert isn't 'value for money' and I expected him to provide a substitute to Tiramasu such as a drink or a coffee which he refused to do. I said then I'd expect the cost of dessert to be discounted from my bill which he also refused to do.

College restaurants constantly deliver excellent food and service at an incredibly reasonable price. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at The Chefs Academy within Newcastle College campus this afternoon in an environment far from the classroom you may expect. Located on the top floor of college, the restaurant enjoys views over the city, which, on a sunny day, really would add to the experience! Front of house students were attentive with attention to detail maintained throughout. The varied menu gives enough choices and the food all prepared to AA rosette standards.

After seeing the chronicle advert on Facebook, I decided to visit this little restaurant, I ordered the pork with the cabbage and potato, everything on my plate was cooked perfectly the pork was succulent the cabbage oozed flavour the potato was just wow , the staff are absolutely lovely and attentive without being in your face, I’d highly recommend this hidden gem of a restaurant.

We are regulars at this excellent Newcastle College restaurant. Its a training ground for the culinary stars of the future and never fails to please. A seasonal supper this evening was another super meal. The staff are young, friendly and attentive, putting so many well established eateries to shame. There's a themed night for a Taste of Italy on the horizon, can't wait.

We had a fabulous night at the Chef's Academy last night where the food was outstanding and the waiting staff were really pleasant and helpful.The Taste of the Sea meal started off with Lindisfarne oysters done three ways which set the meal off to an excellent start.It was followed by local smoked haddock and air dried cumbrian ham croquettes which were served piping hot with leeks,curry spices and granny smith apple.The apple and blackberry sorbet with compound gin was delicious and cleared the palate for the pan-fried sea bass on fennel puree,baby globe artichokes with red wine and wild mushrooms which was also served piping hot.It was followed by raspberry Eton Mess.The chef with his team,the restaurant manager and his team should be congratulated.and we certainly look forward to future meals there.

Ellos y nosotros estábamos maravillados por la calidad de la comida proporcionada por los estudiantes y por los cargos increíblemente bajos que el Colegio prepara para el almuerzo. Menos de 10 para tres cursos de alta calidad y menos de 15 para una botella de Sauvignon Blanc tiene que ser el mejor almuerzo de la ciudad. A group of 6 of us (all women) arrived far too early for our booked-in time, but that proved to be no bother at all, and we were immediately seated at a very roomy table (could easily have seated 8), and water glasses filled up straight away - and continued to be refilled throughout. This was "restaurant week" and so there was a special - quite limited - menu to choose from. All my friends agreed that we would happily eat any one of the 3 choices for starters, mains and desserts. Most of the group chose the venison bolognaise, with hand rolled fettuccini, parmesan and olive oil to begin. Delicious, if not quite warm enough. Two of us had beetroot cured salmon with red cabbage slaw. Again delicious.

We went last night to the Steak Night. I went for the Rib eye and my wife decided on the Rump. I prefer my steak rare whilst she always asks for hers to be cooked well done for some reason and both came out perfect. They both came with a fantastic garnish and superb fries. The sauces (béarnaise and peppercorn) were served as I like it, in a pot so you can choose how much to put on and not already smothered. With a glass of wine and a magnificent cheeseboard all for £15 this was a fabulous deal. With great service throughout the evening, we will certainly be back.

This is my third visit to Newcastle Collage which was a steak night . The choice was between rump and rib eye steaks . I choose Ribeye ( medium to well done), with a pepper sauce . Nervous waiter but got our drinks right and wine . Waitress who took the food order very professional and natural 10/10 .

Incredible student affordable fine dining experience! Had an amazing 3 course night for just 12.50£ each! The food was delicious and came in large portions and presented beautifully! The service was excellent and very friendly and informative about the dishes.

Visited for the first time last night - absolutely perfect meal on the top floor with a wonderful view over the Tyne valley - I started with a perfectly proportioned potted rabbit rillettes, rich and tasty but not overwhelming. As I am a fan of fish, this was followed by a beautifully cooked Pollock Fillet sitting on finely cooked seasonal vegetables with a zingy spicy crab rouille on the side. Had to top it off with a sticky toffee pudding, with a salt butter caramel sauce. Excellent Value for money.

Had three course lunch today, as great as ever. ! The students always make you feel welcome and are very highly trained. We regularly eat here and have never been disappointed.. Can't wait to return

You might think that you are taking a risk in choosing a restaurant whereby you put your enjoyment in the hands of catering students, but far from it. The restaurant looks professional and attractive from the minute that you walk in and if the level of food and service offered by the students continues into their future lives, then the restaurant industry will be in good hands.All in all a very good evening, the students are naturally a little nervous but this is more than made up for by their willingness and their attentiveness.

Over fifty years ago I enjoyed a superb five course dinner for familes of catering students, as my sister was a catering student. I have always meant to try another catering department and finally got around to it. This restaurant did not dissapoint. Tables were a generous size, well spaced, so you weren't overhearing other peoples conversation. There were c 36 dinners and another 14 could have been provided for. Decor and design of restaurant and the night time scene of the Tyne valley was quite spectacular. Food was a Northumberland themed. Ham hock terrine with pease pudding and crispy stottie. Main was mutton cooked two ways, pipped potatoes with savoy cabbage, carrot and pearl barley. Dessert was singing hinnies and ice cream. Service and food was excellent. Mums family are Welsh hill farmers, so I know how good lamb or mutton should taste and this meat was excellent. Singing hinnies, are exactly like cachen grith or Welsh cakes, they were very good to. Three courses were £15, bottle of house red £10. Will definately go back again. Several of the group had been before and reflected how good the previous meals had been.

This is a very very good restaurant.We were really impressed with everything about it. The staff are very courteous and friendly. the food is first class and the views from the third floor are spectacular.This was our first visit and were surprised to find a 2 for 1 offer on during January which made the whole experience even better.The lunch menu was excellent and the wine prices are very good.We will definitely be returning.Tip if you have never been before ....don't use google maps , they have it totally wrong. The map on trip advisor is correct.

The Chefs Academy at Newcastle College never fails. Fabulous food in a modern stylish restaurant cooked and served by delightful young people studying at the College. We have been LOTS of times and would highly recommend it. Last night was the Christmas menu which included traditional turkey and Christmas pudding tho I had a lovely plaice dish and an excellent cheese board. We all had the vodka and beetroot cured salmon for starter which looked lovely (see picture) and tasted even better!! Lovely food at an exceptionally good price!

At the academy tonight for their "Feather and Fur" 5 course game celebration, and what an awesome meal. Silky smooth luxurious celeriac, pheasant & chestnut soup, partridge mousseline with pearl barley, savoy cabbage, pancetta & chanterelles was my idea of heaven on a plate, gin and tonic sorbet was a light frothy sherbertty sort of thing which was a lovely surprise, venison loin with butternut squash, salt baked beets,parsnips,fondant potato & sauce Poivrade was magnificent - the best venison I have ever eaten and all the accompaniments spot on, a pleasingly sharp passionfruit tart finished. I couldn't fault a single thing and hats off to the friendly, helpful, willing waiting staff too! These students put many professionals to shame. Amazing place, will be back and I recommend it wholeheartedly. Oh yes, because this is a training restaurant it was ridiculously cheap at £25/head. The view across the Tyne valley towards Gateshead is probably stunning but it was dark...

We booked for lunch at the Chefs' Academy last week and it did not disappoint. Situated on the top floor of the Lifestyle Academy building with stunning views west across Newcastle, we had a superb 3 course lunch worthy of any of the fine dining restaurants in town but for a fraction of the cost at £10.Nice touch was the front of house students gave us time to read the menu before asking for drinks and all were polite.Three courses were served in good time and we where not rushed, each course was delicious and made from locally sourced fresh ingredients from scratch.I would definitely recommend the Chef's Academy, Yes it is staffed by students and a little out of the way, but worth the effort for the value for money and quality of food and service on offer.

Taken here for my birthday, a different and enjoyable experience.Would certainly return again, the steak was perfectly cooked and the cheesecake mouth-wateringly good.The students waiting on were polite and helpful, of course as students they have some way to go, but are most definitely are on the right track under the watchful eye of their tutor.A place to recommend and return to - - you certainly can't say that about every restaurant in Newcastle. Well done students and staff.

Never heard of this place but went here for a work do. I have to say what a little gem of a resurant nice views students where very good host. The food was tasty, well presented and much better than I was hoping for it presents excellent value. 3 courses £12.50 in 2016. I'll definitely go again.

Went for lunch and had a really great meal in relaxed, pleasant surroundings. I'd been to a number of events and functions at the Chefs Academy before and always enjoyed the food but this was my first lunch. There was more than enough choice and the food was well presented, generous and very tasty. Service was first class - warm and friendly but not intrusive. We both had three courses at a remarkably low price - the rhubarb crumble and ice cream was outstanding. Set me up for the rest of the day - I left full and very content.

Went back for lunch for the 4th time in the last 2 months. The menu is limited (3 starters, 3-4 mains, 3 desserts) but always interesting and well considered. The dishes have all been interesting (the blend of flavours), attractively presented and well prepared. The house wines are good for the price - perhaps a bit better than the average. Tap water is offered routinely. The service has been very good - attentive but not obtrusive - but this may owe something to the restaurant never being full. The setting is good (table-cloths, tasteful crockery/cutlery), a reasonable view (although it is industrial foreground) and the muzak is relatively unobjectionable in its choice and volume (I'm not a muzak fan). And it is cheap.Why then is it not full or even bookings only? I think it may suffer by being part of the College - low expectations and out of central Newcastle. It would be ideal for business lunches if it had dedicated car parking for, unless you come by taxi, it excludes many of the restaurant groupies.Still, it does mean that I can rely on getting a really interesting meal on a whim.

We visited the restaurant yesterday for lunch and have to say it was a very pleasant experience. the food is absolutely first class, the service super and surroundings very pleasant, with amazing views from the huge windows. The prices are very reasonable and the whole meal absolutely first class and we will most certainly be paying a return visit and recommending to friends.
