Knights by the burn coffee house in Newcastle upon Tyne

Really nice to have a cup of coffee here, a goal for a walk. Great scones - cheese come with a slice of cheese and a chutney of choice. We sat outside as the weather was good - there were no tables available indoors at that point. And you need to book for breakfast and lunch, which is surprising at the premises are quite large. Not sure where you would leave your car if you came by car

Been here many times now, food never less than a 10 out of 10. Never been to a place that is so good and so consistent. The owners are really lovely people, and the staff are excellent. Only gripe is we wished we lived closer, we'd never be away.

What a find on our journey home. Delicious and well presented food with lots of choice, I had the Brunch Brioche Roll and my partner had the full English breakfast Really friendly staff and good value for money, would definitely recommend.

Excellent breakfast menu with vegetarian and gluten free options. Dogs aren’t allowed inside but there is seating available outside for when the weather permits.

First time visiting today, walked in for a table of 2. We managed to get a table straight away being seated by a very friendly member of staff. We both ordered the full English and wow what a breakfast, everything was cooked to perfection and a great portion to boot, coffee tasted great too! Would definitely recommend can’t wait for the next visit

What a find! This cafe isn't easy to find or get into... But worth the effort. I had the New Yorker ..hot fresh pastrami, cheese, mustard... Served on grilled sourdough, with a gorgeous salad, coleslaw and luxury crisps. Delicious. I'm going back as soon as I can!

Beautiful local cafe, great customer service too! The coffee was just what I needed to continue my journey! You were right, the little path after the roundabout did join up to Cycle Path 72!

My friend and I were looking for a decent breakfast after an evening out at a Bruce Springsteen concert - did a little internet searching and up popped this cafe. As it was on our way home, we decided to stop by. Well, we were so glad to have found this absolute gem of a place! Welcoming, friendly staff and the food was tremendous!! The best eggs benedict I have ever tasted - utterly delicious. My friend's all day breakfast looked really tasty too - too bad I didn't have room for both !! It kept us fuelled for our trip home. Go !! Book yourselves in to ensure you can catch a table !!

Our favourite breakfast spot ever, and so lucky it’s local to us. Just the most lovely team of staff, they feel like friends. I’ve never had a meal here that I didn’t love, you can tell the chef takes a lot of pride in his dishes. Great quality food, great prices, great staff - and great cakes. These guys deserve ALL of the praise!

Came here for lunch with my wife and son. Been a few times. Food always excellent. Had the avocado toast special today and it was exceptional. Probably some of the best avocado I’ve had. 11/10

Had Welsh Rabbit with decent side salad. Was nice but the onion chutney was sweet which had it been on the side could have been left but was underneath the cheese topping and in my view it took away most of the cheese flavour but was still enjoyable. Service friendly. Would go back again so hasn't put me off.

Without doubt the best overall breakfast experience you can treat yourself to! Knights wins a 10 out of 10 in each category of food, service and ambience, and not just that but they manage to achieve this time after time...after time... An outstanding eatery, which offers a ridiculously tasty selection of foods and drinks, whether you are there for breakfast, lunch or later in the day. Honestly, the food is exceptionally good and Gav clearly takes huge pride and care in what he sends out from the kitchen. Shakshuka (I take mine as the veggie option without sausages) is the best I have tried anywhere and is super fresh and zingy with a variety of herbs selected by Gav himself. Even the choice of drinks is fabulous and I am impressed to see a wide range of teas too, including decaf breakfast tea, which is not always on offer at other places. I cannot even start to describe the cakes, if you wish to "get a taste" check out their facebook page and prepare to be impressed. Stunningly good! Knights is in part of an old school and it has been decorated in a calm, contemporary and sophisticated way, with tasteful music enhancing your time there. Your eyes get drawn to the beautiful, large windows and to the narrow burn trickling past, as well as to the branches and the birds perched along them. It is a retreat in every sense and especially in the warm-hearted way you are welcomed by Jenny. She is such a beautiful soul and you can feel that there is a strong sense of humanity and empathy in her and also in this beautiful place. Like me, I am sure you will soon start to appreciate that this couple in Knights By The Burn have achieved something rather magical together.

Was there with my wife for breakfast. We were blown away by the quality of the full English and the sausage and fried egg sandwich. Coffees and teas were lovely as well. Lovely friendly service, couldn’t fault the place.

Popped in to this delightful coffee shop for a cappuccino. The owners are both very friendly people who clearly care passionately about their business, but more importantly they care about the quality of their food and drink. The coffee is the best I have had in the area, and all the food is prepared lovingly from scratch and served with a smile. Really nice to find local businesses like this that truly care. If you want coffee and a sandwich served with love this is the place. I hope to return soon.

Great coffee shop excellent food and service, only one slight gripe which prob could be sorted easily we sat outside as a lovely day but had to move to another seat as drains did not smell nice.

Food was good, but coffee had been left in the pot for a while, so had a severe burnt coffee taste. I cried.

Great full English, quality ingredients well cooked. Staff friendly and helpful, atmosphere very relaxed and pleasant.

Aesthetically pleasing cute little cafe, parking is a bit of a nightmare as there’s few spaces and you might end up having to park on the road or up the street. Food however was full of flavour and thoroughly enjoyed it, also the price of the food wasn’t too bad either!

First visit for us today and we were not disappointed.Super friendly staff and quick service. Husband had full english breakfast and reported that it was very tasty and the sausage was great. I had granola with greek yogurt, fruit and honey and again, it was lovely. Cant wait for a return visit to try the lunch menu!

Super nice staff, and the food was amazing! The eggs royal were perfectly poached and all-round great, while the lunch main we got was a special on the menu and was also really good and a generous portion. It’s a cute spot, cosy on the inside, and sitting outside can be quite nice if it’s warm. There are also alternative milks, including oat milk, which is great.

Such a cute little spot! We walked in and very luckily got a table, it was the last table they had so we do recommend booking. It's popular for a reason! The food was amazing and the oat milk cappuccino was yummy! Service couldn't be faulted and the decor was so cute!

Really liked this lil brunch cafe by the Riverside in Newburn. Quite a different experience for a cafe as it's in an office building but can't fault the service/ food quality/ ambience. As expected inflation and the current economy has meant prices have shot up from what I'd seen on previous reviews (first saved this place to go during the first lockdown and never got around till now) but can't blame them and they make it worth it in their friendly atmosphere with quality food and drink. Had a great time with our lil one and the staff were so accommodating and even gave recommendations on the local country park and river walk. Will defo be back next summer! 👍

I had a fabulous Welsh rarebit on fresh sourdough toast.......it was super fresh and tasty, with homemade coleslaw and a good portion of crunchy salad - NOM!! This was followed by banana cake with Nutella cream, which was superb. (I rarely eat cake, but this looked great, and didn't disappoint). The waitress/owner was quietly efficient, and really friendly. Her smile, offered to every customer, young and old, was lovely to see. My mum and I thoroughly enjoyed a leisurely lunch, and we can certainly recommend Knights to anyone who appreciates well cooked food.

Just spotless and owner absolutely first class at serving. So many local work people popping in asking for coffees while he was busy making lunch meal for local business in same building. We ended up with two fantastic full on meals after our 2 hour walk. Highly recommended and by the way you also get a lovely pot of tea 👍

Far and away the best breakfast in the North East. Used to try a different breakfast place every week. But since trying here haven't went anywhere else. Amazing standard of food, Service is genuine, friendly and bespoke and to top it off it is reasonably priced. A must try for anyone

A wonderful welcome awaits you at this coffe house. Very friendly atmosphere. Spotlessly clean . After a couple of visits for coffee we had to return and try the breakfast. That was one of our better decisions... Super local produce, good and hot cooked to perfection served efficiently along with a smile.. This is how a catering establishment should be presented and managed. Thank you!!!!

Food lovely. Very hard to get a table if you don't book. Downfall is people park in the disable space don't show a disabled badge. The woman who I spoke to said we'll yes there's someone disabled. If you have no badge then you don't qualify to use the space. Takes a lot of examinations to qualify for one. Shame on those that take advatage

Just to say the best and healthiest breakfasts in the area. Staff are nice and accommodating. Really like the laid back atmosphere. The stream outside is really pretty. A great way to start a weekend or any day off.

Fantastic service, great coffee and delicious breakfast. I had the veggie breakfast on this visit and it was perfectly cooked. I'm not a vegetarian but this breakfast always tempts me away from the usual full english as it tastes so good. I've been to Knights by the Burn several times now and its always outstanding. Highly recommended!

This place is amazing! Owners and staff are so friendly and accommodating. The food never disappoints and I particularly love the veggie breakfasts. The outside garden is lovely and peaceful. Would highly recommend.

Working from home may be a chore our treat is lunch every Friday - good choice from menu with weekly changing Specials. Recommend Coronation chicken

We often went for breakfast and lunch prior to Covid... however, we missed it a lot during lockdowns so we have ventured out to get a Full English this morning and my goodness it was SOOOOOO GOOD!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If you stayed at a B&B and got a breakfast this good you would move in. Gav&Jenny and the girls but lots of love into the business and it is honestly well worth a visit for a take away during Lockdown#2 It was packed nicely and was still hot when we got home didn’t need anything apart from eaten. HIGHLY RECOMMEND and I’m super fussy so wouldn’t go back if it wasn’t a win every time. Please support this very busy local business.

When not in lockdown we have our breakfast here every weekend and usually a lunch through the week too but since lock down we have been getting their take out breakfasts and lunches each week. I can’t praise the food enough. Gav, the chef & part owner makes the most tasty dishes you’ll ever eat and Jen, his wife also part owner is a charming friendly lady and between them they deliver the most fantastic professional service you could ask for. It’s great to know even in these awful times you can depend on Knights by the Burn to keep you well fed with tasty food.

Been here a few times now, pre lockdown post lockdown. Absolutely brilliant every time. The cakes are excellent, my youngest said the biscoff rocky Road was the best ever.The food is top class, the eggs benedict absolutely amazing. Sandwiches sublime, in fact everything is lush. Lovely couple that own it as well.

Friday in the office is bacon/sausage butty day working from home due to COVID we thought we’d treat ourselves to a take away. Cracking bacon butty and other half eggs benedict excellent quality and value ready to collect after ringing in order

Tuve huevos Benedict cocinados a la perfección. Cada uno de nosotros tenía una taza de té refrescante de tamaño generoso. ¡Bromas amistosas con el personal y los clientes a distancia social! Experiencia muy agradable. Luego, un agradable paseo junto al río con instrucciones del amable y competente chef y personal. Definitivamente regresaremos.

Enjoyed a lovely lamb kofta with flat bread and Greek salad. Oreo cake was a bit dry but a good sized slice. Place is spotless and well laid out. Staff were super friendly and the only real negative was them being overly attentive and interrupting the conversation at our table at least 6 times to check everything was ok

Me and a friend popped in to have some breakfast as we were passing. I decided to go for the poached eggs on toast with avocado and I was delighted with my choice. Cannot recommend this place enough.

Another stunning lunch at Knights! Amazing friendly and well informed staff as my mam is GF there was so much choice and informed exactly what was on the menu for her and me. I went for broccoli & cheddar soup and the halloumi and red pepper ciabatta. Mam opted for butternut squash soup & beautiful GF tiger loaf with coronation chicken. Fresh beautiful salad. We took some of it home and that was boxed up with no hassles. Bustling and busy but nothing too much trouble for the lovely staff. Well done We will be back for cake!

I simply love this place , it’s so lovely, warm and welcoming, clean and so nicely set out , the counter looks great with a choice of delicious home made cakes , scones and other delights to go along side the coffee (the best filter coffee I’ve had) , the main menu has plenty of choice to accommodate everyone and also a daily special board today I chose the broccoli soup and I was not disappointed it was delicious along with soft seeded bread , I’ve now become a regular at this place and the staff and chef/owners are so friendly and welcoming and always accommodating overall I’ve rated five stars but I’d have given more if I could , if you’ve not tried this place then why not ??

I can’t rate this wonderful place high enough ,a warm and welcoming atmosphere , I have tried everything on the menu and have always had a freshly cooked delicious meal.The daily specials are amazing tried the quiche today and it was delicious. The staff are wonderful so friendly even the chef pops out to accommodate us , the filter coffee is the best I have tried and free top up is a bonus .

Best breakfast in town. The sausages are delicious. Black pudding lovely. Can’t fault it. Even the large wedge of bread is delicious.

Stopped off for a fried breakfast in this cosy place. Breakfast was good, nice quality sausage, thick bacon, tasty mushrooms, black pudding, fried egg was very well done, and beans. Staff were very pleasant and you can see they do care about giving food food and service. Overall I gave an average but that is just because i had a fried breakfast it could and probably would be higher if i tried the other dishes. Only one thing, add more beans to the brekkie.

5 minute drive from my house and I always get a table without booking. Great menu choice, every breakfast I have had has been amazing. Smoked salmon benedict and vegan chocolate cake my 2 faves. Really good service, nice cafe and great value for money. Would eat there more if it was dog friendly!

Gav, Jen and the team rock! Gavin is a super talented chef and I try to limit myself to just one of the specials per week. Such good value, you’d be paying £16-18 if you had some of the dishes he cooks in a restaurant in the evening. Coffee is great, super friendly staff, I’m in most days deserves to be No1 in Newcastle. An appropriate accolade.
