This is a lovely pub, just as a local should be. The owner is very experienced in the hospitality industry and it shows. The welcome is warm and the Hook Norton beers are well kept. Where they knock the ball out of the park is the food. Fabulous home made generously portioned dishes. Just go, it’s a gem of a place.

What a gem!? Popped in yesterday for a impromptu lunch and a pint - brought in by a fabulous looking ploughman's lunch seen on Facebook. Well- it certainly didn't disappoint. Wonderful food, beautifully presented and great service too. We also had a fish and chips which was top notch and a burger that my daughter really enjoyed too. We will be back and soon. Can't recommend this place highly enough!!

Lovely, welcoming, Hook Norton pub. The sandwiches are absolutely top tier pub sandwiches! Come with really good chips. Food available only Friday and Saturday lunchtimes.

It may seem like a small thing but being able to get a pint of Old Hooky in a beer glass with a handle is a blessing in and of itself. The fact that this pub has the kind of atmosphere I associate with the best kind of pub, a jukebox that has a nicely eclectic mix of songs (many from the 70s and 80s), a real fire and stone walls all makes the customer feel like a local whether he is a local or not. A great pub to visit, an even better one to make a habit of visiting.

This would have been an enjoyable visit if the manager could control his customers and stick to covid instructions. We were shown to a comfirtable seat next to an open fire. However there was a group of 5 females and one male sat at the next table who completely flouted the covid advice. Whist one female member of staff tried to get them to conform a male member wh i took to be the manager did the complete opposite. He sat with them after lifting up his face protector. He continued to serve drinks when they were obviously intoxicated. They had visits from friends making the group much larger than the permitted 6. The kissed and cuddled visitors to the table and wandered around other tables sitting on friends kneeas and shaking hands having complete disregard for other customers. The manager was also making no effort to restrict the number of customers. Even when all tables were taken he was inviting people into the bar to wait until a table became free.

Went in for a light bite in the Eagle didn't expect amazing but got the horrendous! Chicken wings that looked like they where sat in the bottom of the chefs fridge for a month tasted like dirty fryer oil... Not to mention the extream hot sauce that they where swimming in. My friend got nachos doritos with jalapeño with quite obviously sour sour cream thanks chef top dollar.. Bar food is simple and not hard to do it right even on a low budget.. Happy to say I'll definitely not be back maybe think bout employing a chef..

This pub should be congratulated for remaining a genuine British Pub. A friendly landlord welcomes you behind the bar. Good service. Great beer. Old world surroundings - interesting photos. So many of Witney pubs have changed and lost their character over the years becoming “foodie” places that look down their nose at people who just want a drink. The Eagle Tavern retains its character and welcome.

Arrived back in Witney after a meal in Oxford and dropped into the Eagle. As usual the beer and atmosphere are both great. Hooky Gold in great Nick.

A nice friendly little pub, with traditional style and excellent Hooky beer on tap. Just right for a convivial evening meet with colleagues - 7 of us met up for a few quiet beers and it was good to be in a proper pub again. A sign on the door announce 'No Children' - excellent, no having to endure ill-disciplined kids running around the place.

We called for something to eat and have a drink. Inside the pub looks very quaint and obviously is quite old. Outside has a very large Ber garden where we sat with it being a nice day. We ordered a share platter for four with spicy fries. Price very good for the portion we got. It came fairly quickly was cooked and tasted delicious. Would visit again, nice place.

Ordered the fillet chicken burger with BQ sauce, etc. Chips were cold and had obviously been cooked sometime ago (tasted sale). The burger was extremely dry with little taste. Had to ask for BQ sauce as not provided. I'm afraid I would not recommended. There is a Wetherspoons just along the road in which the food is cheaper and of a set quality.

In a mission to find good English beers. Friend said you must try Old Hookey Ale and I found d it here. Didn't eat here so don't know about food. But the best I found for being a cosy little pub with an open fire. Was playing Bowie,

We almost missed having a drink in this Hook Norton pub. It was closed but the owner turned up to open the place just as we were about to leave. He was very welcoming and friendly. The beer was good as was the small beer garden at the rear. The Hooky Gold was lovely!

This pub is a traditional, old fashioned boozer with friendly, knowledgeable staff. We were quickly engaged in conversation with a local man who knows my home town of Birmingham very well. My wife and I were made to feel really welcome and we look forward to our next visit.

This is one of the pubs we always use. The food here is always good, only a small menu but covers most tastes. Great place if you like your Gin!! Its a proper pub which are rare in Witney now, a good old boozer!! Lots of wood and flagstone underfoot. Its a Hook Norton pub so has all their ales.

Extremely disappointing meal Starter of figs — expected fresh not dried- and then only 3 Gnocchi - limited amount and minimal flavour Price far too much for meagre portions Friends similarly disappointed with their main courses and a dessert order of 2 different scoops of ice cream, came with 2 of same flavour! Not asked about the meal at anytime during the evening Would not recommend

We went here to get a little desert as we have been to this cafe before and saw it had quite a good range of gluten free options. They didn’t have much left in stock so we were lucky to get what we got.The gluten free cookies were delicious, tasted really fresh and like they were homemade. Also the cake was really lovely too and tasty. They clearly list the allergens of the product on the screen protector thing behind the cakes. Also tell them about any allergies when ordering.I believe their menu is 100% vegan too.The toilets were really clean too.

A bacon and sausage sandwich was £9.75!! We got a latte, cappuccino and flat white, all of which came after the sandwich was already half eaten. The latte was in a small glass that you would use for a small glass of water? This also meant that it was too hot to actually drink with no handle or anything. The regular cappuccino was in the same cup as the flat white, which tells you how small these drinks were if a regular is the same size as a flat white. Would not go again.
