I have to say since having my baby, I’ve been here twice, and it’s the most unwelcoming place I’ve felt being a Mum. The first experience, I had to change my baby on the floor of the toilets as there are no baby changing facilities available. (A mat you can place on the floor is kindly leant against the wall of the ladies toilets. That’s the extent of it). When booking with a high chair, there is no mention that there is no designated baby changing facilities. The second time I came I just didn’t bother trying, as I was advised that a table can be moved into the ladies loo if I don’t want to change her on the floor. We were kindly given a high chair as requested. However the type of high chair provided, my daughter is just ever so slightly still too small for (she is 13 months-the straps just don’t hold her in enough, not a fault of the pub, just a generic high chair that we aren’t quite ready for, in some places we’ve been the straps have been secure enough but sadly this one was not). So I decided to get my pushchair in and use that for her to sit and eat in so she’s safely secure. When it came to the attention of the staff that I was going to get the push chair, I have to say I have never been made to feel more of an inconvenience than I was today. Since having my child. I was met with comments “you’re going to get your push chair!?” Like it was a travesty. And then met with an enormous amount of comments, looks and whispers and fussing around me, about how this was going to take up too much room, we’d inconvenience other guests (may I add no one came to sit at the table we were next to at the time for the entirety of our stay!?), there was ample room for someone to sit and not be anywhere near the pram. But instead we had to take all our things and move…right in the doorway!? Where the pram was then right in the way of everyone coming in and out or passing to the main restaurant. I have never been treated so poorly in any establishment since becoming a Mum. It’s played on my mind all day and quite frankly I feel humiliated. I wish I’d known this before coming and I won’t be going again, and I want to as a Mum, let other Mums know. And give the restaurant a chance to accept my feedback and maybe make small changes to be more welcoming to mums with small children. There was another family with a baby in a pram across the way, I don’t think they received the same treatment, but I would stress this is not a baby friendly restaurant at all at the moment. My advice as a mother, is if someone calls to advise of a baby on the booking, advice them that there are no baby facilities, even if you have plans to add it in, it’s not there now and changing a baby on the floor is not acceptable or sanitary, bringing in a table without relevant safety features is equally not acceptable. In addition, be aware that some people may be bringing a pram as well as the need for a high chair. Every mother has a different scenario they bring when going out with their children.

Best place to eat out. The allergy information they provide is outstanding (gf,vegan ect.) As a coeliac (gf) it’s hard to eat out and feel comfortable on the prepping of the food but this place fear not . Separate frying, alternates of meals and they actually know ! Even when they knew it was gluten free they doubled checked . They provided gluten free rolls for burgers and all there ice crea ms/sorbets are gluten free too . My 3 course meal was one of the best . I recommend there sea bass . It was beautiful and again with this due to not being able to have fish and chips, instead of potatoes with the sea bass I asked for chips instead and there was no fuss about it and a definite yes (and chips in separate fryer) . When ordering dessert they recognised that I was gf from my main course and made me not feel embarrassed by asking questions and before I did they were on it ! Our family of 10 last night 15/06/24 was I have to say one of the best meals and atmospheres round here . We all thou rally enjoyed all of it and even and added extra of a cute little dog teddy . I just want to say thank you so much for the food, atmosphere and most of all you brilliant staff . The one thing I would say is to outline the alternative meals on the menus.

I ordered the steak and ale pie with stilton sauce. What I got was a pie with a melted chunk of blue chees on it. When I pointed out that I had ordered the sauce, the waitress took it away and the pie came back covered in gravy and it was accompanied by a nasty caramel coloured acidic sauce that was not edible. It tasted disgusting. I said to the waitress that they had just scraped the blue cheese off the pie and covered it up with gravy and she did not deny it. When I said I had got the sauce in the past and it was a creamy sauce, she said that the recipe had changed. I think they mixed the scrapped off blue cheese with some gravy and passed it off as the genuine thing. I am a qualified chef and was appalled at the quality. I had ate there before but it was not like this. Very disappointing.

My daughter and I were left with a bit of a problem today. We were going to go out for Sunday lunch but unfortunately I hurt my knee and couldn’t walk properly so we now had to look for somewhere who did a Sunday lunch to go. The first one we tried was The Dukes Head and we hit gold. The lady who we spoke to was very accommodating and had no problem letting us choose everything we wanted. We had a beef/lamb combo with roasties, stuffing, cauliflower cheese, carrots, broccoli, swede, and terrific huge homemade Yorkshires and gravy. It was lovely and hot and we finished up with bread and butter pudding and sticky toffee pudding both with custard. I must say it was one of the best takeaway Sunday lunches we’ve had and hope to go in for a ‘live’ lunch when I can walk again and enjoy another lovely meal.

Called in on a Saturday about 5.30 on our way home from a day out locally. The staff couldn’t have been any more helpful. They seated 9 of us, a mixture of ages. We sat in the bar area as the restaurant was fully booked. It wasn’t a problem. The food we ordered was lovely. I would definitely use this if we lived locally. Amazing roast the best we have had in a long time. Meat was well cooked great flavour and large portions, lots of vegetables good variety and the Yorkshire puddings were huge and cooked to perfection. The nut roast was delicious the best tried in a long time. Didn’t have room for desert but the menu looked delicious. This is going to be my new regular for Sunday lunch and will defiantly be returning to try the lunch and evening menu. The atmosphere was good and the staff friendly and polite. We visited as a family. Waitress corrected partner on how to say Bruschetta, which she pronounced 'brush-etta'. Pet peeve. They have an "under 12s" menu, that might be better for under 5s. Daughter asked for Mac n cheese, which was about 20 pieces of pasta - not macaroni, but we're not picky. The cheese sauce had split, which we pointed out and were told "that's just how it comes after it's been in the oven" - without anything crunchy in sight it had clearly been microwaved. Everything else was just about edible. Patatas bravas had been reduced to something very red coating the potatoes. Waffle dessert was the best part of the meal. After our first complaints resulted in very frosty customer service we didn't feel we could say anything else so paid the bill and left. Luckily we don't live locally so this won't be somewhere we need to visit again.

Surprise 30th Birthday Our family attended the pub yesterday lunchtime for my nephew’s 30th birthday celebration. Unsurprisingly I made my way to the bar and was met by friendly staff and well priced drinks. The pub was very clean and nicely decorated, with punters at the bar and lots of lunchtime diners. We had our own room and were very well looked after by Mandy and her staff who provided an excellent buffet. I was very impressed with the staff in their matching attire. The menu also looked very inviting. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable experience and would highly recommend.

We are 4 friends who meet frequently usually for coffee and cake but we decided to have a Christmas 'proper' lunch at the Dukes Head. It was very nice! We sat in the conservatory, 2 of us had suet pudding, 2 had the chicken, brie and cranberry pie, 3 had a selection of veg (mashed swede, cabbage, cauliflower and carrots) and mash and 1 had veg and chips. The pies were hand made, lovely shortcrust pastry and the suet puds were lovely too. Nice thick gravy. The ladies doing drinks and food were very pleasant and efficient. Access with a wheelchair was very easy from the large car park although it was quite steep but there were 2 of us to help and then in via 2 sets of double doors, you'd need to ask for help if you didn't have your own helpers. The ladies toilets were nice and clean too - always a good sign of a good establishment. On leaving one of the ladies helped with the doors whilst another wished us good Christmases. All in all a very pleasant experience. We all said we'd like to go again next year.

The 50th birthday weekend for my sister began on Friday evening where we enjoyed a small family meal. The food was so good. It was so nice and I enjoyed every mouthful. We all enjoyed our meals and we have no hesitation in recommending our local village pub. Faye and her staff were so helpful and pleasant. We had a really lovely evening. Saturday night was my sister's birthday celebration held in the pub & attended by about 55 people. From the planning stages through to decorating earlier in the day to the actual evening Barry, Faye & the team were so helpful. They really did go above and beyond to make the evening such a huge success. The food was amazing - chicken faitas, mushroom faitas, lasagane, followed by chocolate brownies and apple crumble. Thank you to all at the Duke's Head for everything. It was the perfect evening and a lot of that is thanks to you. I will be in again very soon to sample more of the delicious food from your menu.

Embarrassed after praising this pub to my family. Celebrating a birthday dinner on August 7th, had to look for front of house to check in, ordered 3 steaks, waitress bought 1 one out but couldn't remember what it was or who it was for and promptly took it back to the kitchen to find out .Every steak order was cooked incorrectly to customer request and 1 steak returned to kitchen after having to leave the table with plate and find a waitress to return it to the kitchen for further cooking with no apology when returning to kitchen or when returned to customer. The remaining 2 steak dishes were not returned as they would have had to be replaced and customers put up with it. The mashed potatoes on another dish was dry and not palatable and not eaten, in fact my family stated Ikea mash was better. Another sausage dish arrived with half an inch of gravy in a jug. The ribs were overcooked and like leather on the edges. We had to request steak knives after food delivered which took about 5 mins allowing food to start going cold and also a finger bowl for customer who had the ribs. The Hunter's chicken was overcooked and dry. The pub and restaraunt were not busy, no music, no ambiance, chef was taking food to customers, mmmm where were the waitresses?????.Some of my family say they would never visit again and other felt they would give it a second chance. It seemed that that the front of house staff would rather be chatting at the bar than suppling service to customers in the restaraunt. I am truly dissapointed and not sure that I would recommend again.

The only suggestion I have is to cook the vegetables & roast potatoes for longer as they were hard. The staff & landlord are very friendly & we had a lovely afternoon. This place had always been good for a great meal out and I was so pleased to see that this continues to be case under it's new ownership/management. Nice friendly staff, good menu choice and the fresh decor were all welcoming. So the main test was the quality of the food, and it didn't disappoint. My seafood trio came out on a board, with the chips in a side bowl. Personally I'd much rather have had it all on a plate, but it wasn't a meal stopper. Prices around average and I'd certainly go again.

Popped in to this pub since it’s changed ownership - much improved decor and a much better atmosphere - only had drinks but will definitely be back to try the food. A welcome addition to a lovely village

Waited over an hour for our food & when i asked if we had been forgotten the woman serving seemed to take offence & said that it wasn't her fault that it was busy(about a dozen people in)When the food finally arrived it was very poor quality.I had the seafood combo(£15)& i am fairly sure it was an iceland seafood mix.I will give it one star because my birra moretti was nice.

Decided to visit for an impromptu dinner one week night, not long after the pub reopened following a long period of closure. The pub looks much nicer than it did following a refurb. Wanted to really enjoy the food as the village could do with a great pub but it was a real disappointment. Pie and mash was just unimaginative and lacked and flavour. Tasteless watery mash and a dry pie with gravy on the side and some steamed veg. 12 quid. Whilst the food was below average there wasn't anything actually wrong with it to complain about. It was just really uninspiring and I won't waste my money again. In fact I would rather eat at home. Service was good just a shame about the food. Maybe the usual chef wasn't working?Disappointing.

As a resident in Sellindge I am very sad that the Dukes has closed - every village needs a pub - but more than that is the unprofessional way it was done . Shame on you that it was done with 24 hour notice to staff, and never mind those who had paid for deposits for parties etc - no signage, no answer phone to say ‘ closed’ - Shame on you Mick and Nick

Called in on the off chance for a meal. Was a little unsure at first. Staff gave a warm welcome. Food was cooked fresh to order We had the scampi and chips and it was well worth it. Definately worth a visit.

My sister, mum and I went to this pub for a meal after it being recommend by someone, as we got there, a pint of diet coke was £3.40 which is ridiculous to start with, we ordered the veggie sharing plater which was delicious, but you can't really go wrong with some bread olives and sun-dried tomatoes. We also ordered the the fisherman's catch plater, it would have been a great meal if one of the cod fillets weren't out of day, but that is besides the point. We sent it back to the kitchen expecting to at least get another piece of fish OR a discount on our meal, we got nothing, absolutely nothing at all for it. We will not be returning.

Food was overpriced under quality products. I had the cheese ploughman’s 39p roll with a dollop of pickles and far from date cheese . My partner a 1/2 pounder which was again poor quality - with Lidl fries on the side. I requested lime cordial and was given lime squash - ruined my drink - a coke which cost £3:40 .

Piping hot tasty food. Great choice on the menu, very good, friendly service and my vegetarian friend said that her meal was the best she'd had in a pub for many months. Really pleased with my meal (fish pie) which was absolutely delicious. Very big portions so, sadly, I had to forgo a dessert. Will definitely return.

When we arrived it was very quiet. Met by friendly staff. Food was very nice. I had smoked salmon and prawn salad and my client had scampi. Chips looked amazing, scampi was small and could have done with less breadcrumbs and more flesh but were still tasty. Look forward to coming again.

Have visited this restaurant several times. Gets busy on a Sunday so definitely worth booking. They have tables in the bar and a separate restaurant area in a conservatory. Clean tables and chairs. Food is fabulous. Sunday roast meat is tender and delicious and they do a good selection of other meals. Staff are friendly and attentive but don't keep bothering you. Definitely my favourite restaurant around this area. Plenty of parking although car park is in pretty bad condition so drive slowly!

My wife and have just had dinner and I have to say the food and service were great. My wife had roast lamb and said the lamb was very good and accompanied with fresh veg. I had liver and bacon and have to say the liver tasted great and tender with tasty lean bacon mash peas and onion gravey. Will definitely be back

Lovely little local on Cheriton high street, always go there for a roast when I'm in Folkestone. Roast dinner very reasonable priced at £8.75 and less than £5 for a pint!
