Terrible. Bar lady/Pub manager was extremely rude. Had no soft drinks for my children, then bar lady/manager managed to close a cellar door, for which she does not have the entry code, then accused us, being nearest to the door, of closing it! Wow. When I pointed out we hadn't been near the door, she was even ruder. Left almost immediately.

It has taken me a couple of weeks to think about this review. We were at this pub for a wake , so it’s difficult to write.but the buffet what was provided was to say the least was very very poor .even more so when I found out the widow was charged £520 for it. Sandwiches which were tuna tuna and more tuna a few ham and cheese . A bowel of chips sausage rolls cocktail Sauages and chicken nuggets ,oh ya a small bowel of pasta salad. I know this pub is under new management and since it reopened it has nothing n the previous landlord and how the restaurant was run . I think this landlord needs to rethink how a village pub is run and look at the customers he has lost because of the poor food that is severed and his extortionist priceing.

Visited with family last night. Only group eating and had to wait absolutely ages for our meals. Very limited menu, nothing like it says online Burgers only meal that was any good, chicken meal very dry, my pasta dish very greasy & oily and small portion. Staff worked hard and apologetic regarding wait. Very tatty surroundings that needs a lot of work. Not good enough, dissapointed.

This is an old pub with lots of character. My wife and I ordered drinks at the bar and was taken to a seat in the restaurant area and ordered food and I was pleasantly surprised, I ordered liver and bacon this was delicious with lots of rich grave and very reasonable priced £13.00. I saw other people order the fish and chips and wow it looked good. The service was impeccable the server was knowledgeable about the food and drinks It was a pleasant afternoon. There is also a free car park which is bonus

Frequently visited the Duke's Head prior to lockdown and was always happy with food and service in relaxed environment. Unfortunately it has since changed hands and it's not like it used to be, even though the menu is the same. Service was slow and the chef doesn't seem to understand the concept of serving hot food... everything was cold, or tepid at best, and not at all enjoyable. Should've known as soon as we arrived that there was a problem as the place was nearly empty and this is always a good indication of the standards! I will miss the old place but won't be going back there unless it changes hands again.

Unfortunately, the chef does not seem able to understand what people want. Also the one thing on the menu said' ask which curry of the day' was on. Waitress did not know !! Customer asked is it madras or Korma to get an idea of spicyness, but was just told chicken curry??. Please get a better menu & chef. This used to be place people would drive miles to eat at, what a shame. Just go back to original menu x

The Dukes Head is our only remaining local pub, it’s always been a focal point of our village and changed hands just before the pandemic struck! It was closed for over a year and has now reopened and we thought we would go out despite the bitter cold and see what it offers now. There were only 2 others dining, it was a Wednesday at 7.30pm. They were elderly and asked for the fire to be turned on, it was a little chilly. It’s a shame the fireplace isn’t utilised as it is situated in the dining area and make it more cosy. We asked for the wine list, there wasn’t one; no need when there’s only 2 reds on offer and the Merlot was out of stock. We therefore had the shiraz which was a safe Hardys. More choice is needed and attention to detail as our wine glasses had lipstick on them and needed to be changed. For our starters, I had pate with toast which tasted OK but looked like mud and was a bit too smooth. My husband had calamari which was light and fluffy and very nice. We chose sea bass for our mains but it wasn’t available, so we had chicken breast with garlic mash which was wet and had too much garlic, it came with green beans, It would have been nice to have a choice of potatoes, as we would have had new potatoes with butter not garlic and more vegetables. The couple left before our main arrived and I asked what they thought of their meal. The lady said she had the “Dukes burger” which wasn’t something she would normally choose but there was lack of choice on the menu. The gentleman had the steak and was very pleased with his meal but then it was £19+ so it should be a good quality steak for that price. My personal opinion is that they need to offer more pub grub at affordable prices, to get the restaurant back to full capacity as it used to be every night. Offer “Winter Warmers” a choice of home made pies with plenty of filling, there was only a chicken leek and mushroom pie and I don’t like mushrooms. Only 1 soup which was tomato (boring). They need more soups on offer with homemade bread - get those lovely smells coming out of the kitchen and have coffee going to tantalise the tastebuds! Turn drinkers into diners! Have hot pots and chilli concarne. Easy but warming on a cold night in Winter! Lamb shanks and fish and chips. They have s French chef so maybe offer some moules and frittes. Prawn cocktail was always a favourite starter there. Have a cauldron of mulled wine on the bar and Christmas carols in the background. Make it an entertainment pub with music to draw people there again. One more observation, several chairs were very worn and need replacing.

We went to the Duke's Head for a family Christmas meal from their Christmas menu. We were late to all get seated but it was no problem to the staff who were great, excellent service, food arrived more or less at the same time which isn't that easy with a party of 28, especially as there was another large booking at the same time for lunch. Food was decent, again catering for those numbers isn't easy all at the same time. But I'd visit again for the staff and service alone.

This was my first time attending the pub since the new owners took over and all I can say is ‘what a disappointment’. The pub was freezing cold, the potatoes were tasteless, the veg was tasteless. It was over priced for a meal I’d describe as something you put in the microwave to heat up. No freshness, just a ready meal in my eyes. On the plus side of the visit and I’ll repeat, the only plus side of the visit was that the staff service was brilliant. All staff were friendly and didn’t keep us waiting. It’s saddening knowing this place was known for beautiful, mouthwatering roasts, those days are gone I guess!

We have been users of this place for over 30 years. Seems to have lost its way recently. We ate on a Saturday evening. It was not crowded. Ordered food, cottage pie and a chicken dish. and a pint and vodka. Didnt have the beer it seemed, so had diet coke from the pump. Didnt even get an offer to try the alternative beer, which most places would do, so I had a diet coke. My chicken was over cooked, with vertualy no mashed potato, so little my wife asked where it was as it looked like sauce spreading over the plate. The portion of cottage pie looked like a weight watchers portion with minimal mince . This was warn when served. As this was a meal we have had many times before here , nothing as bad as this though, we registered a comment with the waitress. A lady came to see us and said no one else complains, Her family said they there big portions., She did take the pie from the bill. After subsequent conversations with friends, it is obvious that we are not the only people who feel the service, quantity and value have diminished here. Several said never again unfortunatly. The glowing reveiws dont seem t relect the service myself and friends are receiving lately. Too many pubs closed around here and if the managment or owners dont improve I feel this will be another casualty.

I have a very fussy child that eats like a pigeon and the staff could not do enough for her so she didn’t go with out. A guy emerged from the motor home and urinated right in front of us and then got back in to the motor home. He is obviously there as part of the Dukes Head as he has his electric connection running from the premises. The thought of him being an employee of this establishment put us off eating there as his hygiene standard is zero. We left and had lunch further down the road. Always heard good things about the Dukes Head so when we were invited I jumped at the chance, it's pub that does food, my type of place, it was busy but it was a Friday night so only to be expected, food did take a while to arrive but our lady server was very friendly and did keep popping back apologising for the wait and keeping us informed how much longer we had, I like this it means we have not been forgotten. The food was good, there were 4 of us each having a different dish and I must admit I could have had any of them, they all looked good. I had the steak which was great, fish pie, steak and ale pie and sea bass the others had and all went down very well, a couple of shares between the ladies proved that each dish was as good as the other. We even had puddings which again each of us had different, one would have licked the plate (fudge cake) if she didn't think she was too old for that now. An excellent meal, totally recommended, friendly staff and a great atmosphere.

I recently visited this little gem after a trip to legoland with my family. Well what can I say... I spotted this pub on my way through from the m40 and made a mental note as it looked quite welcoming and homely with ample parking. I wasnt disapointed. On my way home, the children and myself were hungry so we decided to stop. We were greeted with welcoming staff who seated us immediatly although they were already buzzing with diners. We were given the menu, which is extensive in choice, shown the specials board and our drink orders were taken and delivered to our table promptly. Shortly after we were asked if we were ready to order, which we were. I had the rib eye steak, my daughter had the chicken breast stuffed with cheese and wraped in parma ham, my som had the gammon steak and my partner had the pork belly. Within 30 minutes of ordering, our food was on the table which considering how busy they were was amazing. The food was brilliant. None of this ready prepared rubbish. It was all fresh, tasty and very generous portions. My steak was cooked to perfection (medium rare) the pork belly smelled devine and the crackling was out of this world.. i did pinch a bit off my partners plate. The gammon was absolutely huge and was served with a duck egg, which i was told is an occasional treat. And the chicken breast was beautifil , so my daughter informed me. We were asked how we were enjoying our meals part way through and asked if we wanted our drinks replenishing when the waitresses saw they were getting low. When we finishe our meal we were offered the desert menu. We did take a look bit we were too full. We briefly moved to the garden after just to let our food go down and stretch our legs before setting off home. The garden had ample seating, a wendy house and see saw type thimg for the younger children and beautiful plants to make it look more homely. While we were in the garden, we were greeted by the landlady and their new addition, a bear of a puppy. I think his name was Ben. Such a beauty and so placid. We thouroughly enjoyed our time in the Dukes head and will defiantly be calling in again when we are next in the area.

A group of friends decided to have lunch at The Dukes Head on Friday and were once again disappointed at the length of time it took to provide us with our meals. The food is good value but some of the main courses need to improve before I return.

Hubby and I popped in to this quaint pub for a Sunday afternoon drink after wanting to visit for years. Low beans, large fireplaces (even in the ladies toilets) and a feeling of stepping back into a bygone era. The garden area is attractive and suitable for eating al fresco on a warm, sunny day! The ladies toilets were clean and set out hospitably with a large mirror provided. Staff appeared friendly. Although we didn't eat here this time we looked at the menu to check out prices and what was on offer and decided we would definitely return to this establishment for lunch or dinner in the very near future. In fact my hubby has arranged to go to an event to be held here this Saturday 6th as it's a musical night. So, Dukes Head, we hope to be visiting again and regularly. I recommend a visit, a drink and a bite to eat! Cheers!

Although we live quite locally we never thought about going 'out' for dinner here. When we had family visiting and just wanted to stay local we decided to give it a go and we're glad we did! The food was fantastic, not a complaint between the 8 of us. People noted the variety in the menu meant there was something for everyone. Was slightly put off that they must have had a recent increase I prices and these were just tipexed over the old prices but not on every menu so we could see the before/after prices. That being said we didn't think it was over priced and the food really was great. We stayed for a few drinks after and had a great night!

Have eaten here a few times and never disappointed.A menu with plenty of choices to suit all tastes and all at reasonable prices. Cooked nicely and served hot. Can definitely recommend the pies and burgers are massive. Despite generous portions have to squeeze in a pudding! Good old favourites like knickerbocker glory or the Fred and Ginger cheesecake are our favourites. Well worth a visit for locals or passers by.

This is such an extensive menu, especially for a small pub! The service was good, staff very friendly. The portion sizes were generous (A whole bowl of ketchup and mayo), and they even have a menu for 'smaller appetites'. I was with two people in their 70s and a 103-year-old, so this was perfect. The thing that really stands out though is the chips. On the menu, it said sandwiches came with 'fries' so I was disappointed when big chunky chips came as I don't normally like these. However, my disappointment didn't last long. These were the best chips I've ever had. Crunchy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and the flavour was heavenly. I'm giving four stars because I had the brownie for dessert and it was absolutely disgusting. It didn't taste like chocolate at all, and was the consistency of a sponge cake. Sad and strange, given the otherwise excellent quality of this pub. Overall, if I lived nearby this would be my go-to pub!

Only recently discovered this gem of a pub so this was my third visit but first time with a group of about 17. Every single one of us was delighted with the food, atmosphere and friendly service. If you want proper, delicious, home-style food, served by lovely people who treat you like they've known you for years, then this is the place to go. Highly recommended.

We have been here before and it was good but this time it was superb, it was on Halloween so it was busy with people dressed up and they had a Band playing all good but it gets better. The Waitresses work hard and are very pleasant and helpful and serve you in good time. We were a party of four and one of us had Braised steak with Mash and vegetables which was delightful and the remainder of us all had the Rump steak on a sizzling platter, the steak sat on a bed of Onions with 2 x Mushrooms on top all on the sizzling platter and a plate of chips and vegetables served up for you to move your steak onto ive got to say it was exceptional. Desserts to follow and you are spoilt for choice with some real old favourites like Knickerbocker glory, Banana boat, lemon meringue pie to name a few and those we had were all very nice indeed. What a Pub this is it has it all.

This Pub is a real nice Pub that happens to serve good home made food and within a real nice pub atmosphere.Parking is reasonable but when busy it can be difficult to park, perhaps it needs to be bigger, People were parking along neighbouring streets which was happening when we arrived. This Pub is so friendly and the food they serve up is very nice indeed and we are told its home made which is quite believable, it arrives hot and served nicely displayed and a good portion size, we had lasagne which was very good indeed and others had Burgers which looked great and Ribs which were very big and tasty. We also had desserts which again did not disappoint they looked home made and not pre packaged. The usual Bar drinks are available aswell has Coffee. Top marks to The Dukes Head we will return.

Food was ok but found it expensive for what it was puddings nearly £6 each so for 4 adults and 2 children over £100 not the hungry horse it use to be

Nice little classic tea rooms. We had sandwiches along with tea and coffee. Followed by a nice peice of cake. Lady serving was very nice and prepared good food in nice time.

A lovely local english pub! Great access for parking. Outdoor seating is plenty and very comfortable. Playground for the 7+yo kiddies, and chickens for the younger kids. Food was absolutely delicious, and super quick! Service was attentive and friendly. A plate we ordered was forgotten, and they swiftly arranged it and took the cost off the bill! I recommend the Palmer Ale!

Visited on a Monday evening. It was pretty quiet. In some pubs this is a recipe for ropey beer as what's in the pumps is stale and nasty but not here. Drank two pints of London Pride as good as any I've had. We ate too - the sandwiches and wraps were fine. Not sure a Frenchman would recognise the baguette but the long bap served up was tasty enough. All told, a good visit. (Update) Visited on a wet Thursday evening. The pub was busy but not full. We were seated easily. The beer was still good (Doom Bar this time). My companions reported that their sandwiches and wraps were great. I had a pizza, which was massive and delicious. Update: Visited for Sunday lunch. Beef and Pork roast dinners excellent. Our friends had sandwiches which were also praised, as were the chips. Drinks and service great. Can still recommend.
