I'm rather disappointed with our experience. Yes the staff were friendly, however for a quick working lunch £100 for 3 people is absolutely ridiculous. The burgers were beyond average. No table service at a very quiet time "cutlery is over there" remark not acceptable. No salt or pepper on the tables. 3 beers 19 quid!!!!!! Are you having a laugh!?! Chips nice but that's about it. Most disappointed

We were booked with friends to come to this pub for Sunday lunch today. The pub do not allow you to book the outside tables, but they allocated us a space on the small outside decked area in the barn. On arrival though, we were told that they had a 50th birthday booked and as a result, had moved us deep inside the pub - no phone call, no letting us know before hand etc. No problem we thought - we’ll sit outside in the garden as there was plenty of space. Nope! Apparently they do not serve food outside either! We turned around and walked straight out and went to a much more friendly and accommodating pub further in to Tillford village. Can’t comment on the food as we didn’t hang around with the way we had been treated - certainly will not be returning!

We went twice over one weekend. Pub is lovely out the back near the garden, service okish. Better service early on Sat eve than Sunday, both roughly at the same time 5/6 pm. Being charged £34 for two large wines on on a Sat, early evening, and then being charged £11 for one large glass of red wine the next day on a Sunday was very confusing. We found the food and setting to be nice. The disparity in drink costs, however, was very unusual. Tip: Roast beef was ok, but spend the extra £1 and get some extra roast potatoes as you get roughly the equivalent of one and a half small potatoes.

Visited for Mother's Day lunch, a set menu (£40 per person for 3 courses) asked to choose preferences before hand. Total disaster, see review below! Poor front of house staff trying to hold things together but it was painful watching it all unfold. Waits for table bookings running way over booked time, families just stood waiting and waiting and waiting. Waits for mediocre food that often wasn't what was ordered. The following day saw a post on social media of kitchen staff congratulating themselves on a successful service!! You should have all stepped outside the kitchen, it was awful! I actually thought the pub would have contacted customers who had prebooked to apologise alas no.

My family and I have been returning to Grosvenor Pubs for years and the Duke of Cambridge has some special memories. Sadly however, I had cause to complain about our most recent experience, so I decided to call and spoke with the General Manager Paul and I'm very glad that I did. We now understand why it was not up to the very high standards we've come to expect, due to very exceptional circumstances and is a complete one off. Paul was very polite, extremely honest and professional and I am delighted with how he handled the complaint. We are very much looking forward to seeing you soon. Great food, great service, great venue and location. If you haven't visited before, then it's a must!!!

Been a couple of times. Overall, I'd say it's okay. Beer from the outside bar was warm. Every table (on a sunny Saturday afternoon) was either occupied or covered in dirty glasses. Head person on the outside bar seemed flustered by the fact that they had no idea which food order was going to each table - despite taking names for each order. Staff seemed disorganised and shocked that a warm Saturday afternoon might get busy. Probably wouldn't return.

Dreadful service, hugely overpriced. Booked the mothers day menu for extended family. Dreadful service. Genuinely the worse we have experienced any where ever! On arrival table wasn't ready. Wrong drinks provided. Parents ate their starters without a drink because drinks weren't brought. Waited 1 hour for main course. Wrong food brought. Father ate his pudding alone because the other puddings brought weren't ours. Constantly had to find waitresses to bring drinks orders. Sullen waiting staff. Hideous, overpriced experience. I wrote to the pub to complain. They didn't bother to reply. We are local but won't be returning.

We visited one Saturday lunch time as the sunshine has decided to come out and arranged with our friends there to discuss our near wedding plans. 10 of us in total sat out on the terrace, 5 ordered food ( was not cheap, but we expected great food as frequent visitors) … we waited close enough of 1hr 30 minutes for our starters to come but it was our mains, no sign of our starters. I had to ask three times where our starters are. The food was just about edible but certainly not £25 for a burger. I felt so sorry for the young waitresses that kept coming out and asking us if we had ordered fish & chips/ burger but they had no idea who had even ordered them or what table number. We were interrupted multiple of times due to this and in the end we decided to move on to another pub. We visit here multiple times and I have never had such an experience! I really hope that this is a one off but the kitchen really need to sort themselves out.

When we chased our food, the waitresses were impatient and gave us unhappy looks. Asked for medium for my steak, but it was well done. Asked for condiments but never had them. The food was average. This must be the longest wait for a food ordered in my life so far. A mind boggling wait of 121 minutes !! What an utter joke. If you cant sort out the kitchen either you shut it to reorganise or remove the bloody discretionary service charge from the bill. Had it not because of a family gathering we would have walked out! When the food arrived it was charred. This place has lots of potential but if this thing is left to run its course, your restaurant would be dead as there won’t be any new or repeat customers left. Congratulations for breaking our PB in the record of waiting time, and patience.

Really frustrated with what used to be such a lovely pub. We came in for lunch on Sunday 19th Jan having booked and noted we’d have a baby with us and were not late for our booking. We were seated by ourselves in the barn area where the heaters were broken, which was really not a reasonable place to sit in January with a 9 month old baby. Had we been called ahead of time we wouldn’t have gone through the hassle of bringing our baby out. We ended up having to leave and went down the road to the Bel and Dragon where they had a table in the warmth with a high chair waiting. I sent an email on the day expressing disappointment. I followed up via the website “feedback” form and have even tried contacting on IG. Over 3 weeks have passed and we’ve been completely ignored. It was disappointing and inconvenient enough on the day, but to ignore attempts to discuss the matter is really below par. Quite shocked that they now treat their customers in this way as it used to be a very friendly welcoming pub. Sadly after such rudeness we won’t be returning.

We explained we had actually booked a table NOT NEAR DOGS as I'm allergic to dogs. It was accepted that this was the case. So moved to another table. Next table conversion between two diners, "The wife is just bringing the dog!!" Asked the person dealing with me about the dog situation. Our first visit, eight of us met up for Sunday Lunch, the majority of the party opted for the Sunday Roast, this turned out to be a bit of a letdown. Although the portions were acceptable, the quantity of meat was less than impressive, only one thin slice of meat, this was a bit of a disappointment, as was seen by the expression on the faces of the party. Veg tasted smokey food quality aside, there was quite a wait for the staff to clear the main course dishes from the table. Consequently, there was a delay in dessert. To cap it all, we were asked to vacate the table as they were expecting another party. Not our problem, I fear. Overpriced

Sunday in November 2024 - We knew it would be busy as we couldn't get a table until 14.45. It was heaving. When I went to sit down at my place, I noticed the table hadn't been cleaned very well. I pointed this out and someone hurriedly wiped a cloth over most of the spillage, probably gravy. Later, when I picked up my napkin, it had stuck to the table on another dirty spot. For these reasons, I was going to rate 3 stars but the food was very good so I rated 4 stars. A previous comment included a pic of one slice of roast beef. My wife ordered that and her food portion was ample, as were everyone's - no complaints there. The servers were polite and friendly but at times we had a long wait. This was especially true of our puddings so I asked for the bill when they were brought over. We were four adults and one 3-year-old and our lunch took 2 and 3/4 hours which is rather a long time, especially for a small child.

It wasn't as nice as the pictures on their website suggest and nowhere near as comfortable as the pictures look, with the plush armchairs etc. They must be in the attic! The biggest disappointment was the service and spent most of the evening listening to the two waitresses talking loudly, singing and laughing. We're all for everyone being happy but they seemed to forget they were there! The food was ok but unfortunately the triple cooked chips weren't really cooked properly and certainly not worth the prices they charge.

Sadly this place isn’t what it used to be. Saturday night and very quiet which was a surprise! Used to be overflowing. Not much choice on the menu, fixed price menu not available Saturday night, no steak frites, tiny portions and way too expensive. Had the crab cake and it wouldn’t have looked out of place as a starter. The waiter recommended adding chips as it was small, triple cooked chips with thyme and rosemary…. Don’t think so, more like thick cut shop bought that were quite greasy. Burgers were small, expensive and one little bit of lettuce, one little bit of tomato and a few chips… deserts weren’t much better but the apple and houseboy crumble was nice but again expensive! Sadly won’t be going again. 4 of us left disappointed and feeling out of pocket. Perhaps it’s better during the day when there’s more choice. Walking into The Duke of Cambridge, one is greeted with a lovely atmosphere - a charming ambience in a traditional old English pub. My cousins and I had a family get together and occupied a large table in the restaurant area. We all only ordered a main course (thank goodness) as the food was extremely disappointing. Without exception, all 10 of us were disappointed with the food. Risotto: rice undercooked. Fish & Chips: small, tasteless soggy portion, Trout: dry, Steak - virtually cold and tough... I could go on and on. The value for money is non-existent. The servers did their best and gratuities included for their efforts but if it were my decision, I would have sent the food back. Simply not good enough at £22 for a meagre fish and chips etc. etc. Reading previous complaints, I see the proprietors wrote: “Thank you for your rating! We look forward to hopefully seeing you again soon.” That would suggest they did not read it or they do not care! I strongly suggest you modfiy your pricing to reflect the quality and quantity of the food. With such establishments under pressure, only those offering fair value for money will survive. The ’Bel & Dragon’ just a couple of miles away is a far better option.

Absolutely awful experience last Friday at the pub. Upon arrival 4 or 5 staff were standing behind the bar but not serving any of the people waiting. When I asked if we could sit outside one guy said yes, I’ll serve you, then halfway through ordering he decides to go on his break. When I ask where he’s gone, a girl very defensively says he deserves a break! Ridiculous. Instead of just looking after us, she continues to be difficult. Finally after taking our order we receive rude comments whilst walking away, like we were the ones being rude. Outrageous in hospitality. Then, when food arrives they’ve actually got my food order wrong. When I question it the server says I’ll go find out, but no one ever comes back to the garden to rectify or even just apologise. So sad when this place used to be amazing, and as a local resident they’ve lost my business for good. Do not waste your time here when so many other nice pubs locally!!!!

Bloody amazing. Food was gorgeous. There was 8 of us, 4 adults, 4 kids, and a dog. We visited on a Sunday. We had the roasts which were amazing. The free extra potatoes and yorkies was great. Kids food was great, and enough for them (ages 8-10). Waitresses were amazing, very helpful, polite and friendly. Pub itself had lovely outdoor space, great play space for kids. Great find for us and would definitely go back.

Had a roast dinner with a dessert. We had lamb and beef, both cooked to perfection, and the desserts were very good. Pub was very busy, but the staff were working tirelessly and were very attentive. Would recommend a visit.

Disappointing! The batter on my fish suggested the oil hadn't been renewed for a long time. Pity, as there seemed to be more batter than fish. Service not great, even though I was charged for it. Location good, but vfm, service and food not! John

Came in for Sunday lunch, ordered the pork chop and some nibbles to share with the family. The pork was cooked to perfection and would highly recommend the "bang bang slaw" for an exotic accompaniment to the meal. Excellent service, will be sure to return. Special thanks to Evie for accommodating our four legged friend 🦮

So disappointing. We’ve been a number of times before and enjoyed it, but they have changed the menu and seem to have some new (untrained?) staff so this time it was very poor. First the food. It was difficult to find something on the menu to be excited about. Most of our table chose a burger to be safe but they were very small so most were left hungry. One of our party chose burrata and tomato salad but it arrived with a BBQ sauce on it. Most odd. It was inedible. Not only because of the sauce but because the ingredients were very poor quality. Second the service. It was very poor. The waiter bringing the wine didn’t seem to know how to open a (screw top!!) bottle, or pour a glass of wine. We had to ask for service several times. The restaurant was empty yet the bar was covered in dirty glasses. The staff were simply chatting behind the desk. There was no warmth to their welcome and no mention of specials or recommendations. We were just left to ourselves. Third the price. It was totally overpriced. We paid £177 for six and we had five mains and one starter (one dish each) plus one bottle of house wine. Fourth the result. We left early and went for pudding elsewhere!

Lacking atmosphere, no welcome on arrival, one clueless but sweet waiter, one abrasive rude waitress, couldn’t have felt more unwelcome and quite frankly an inconvenience! A huge list of dishes that were not available. Started clearing the plates and asking for coffee orders while we were still eating. A big disappointment for what was meant to be a big birthday celebration. Never again - such a shame as it looks nice enough and in a lovely village.

Very slow service with our second course some of our party had finished the dessert before the others were server. Dined on the patio that had a roof but no sides. So when it rained some got wet. Do not think I would eat there again. Food slightly over cooked and dry and not very hot.

We went here for father's day. First time we went here and I don't think we would come back. We had to chase up for a high chair for my toddler. Food ordered got very messed up near the end and ended up cancelling drinks as we waited 45 mins. Waiting staff weren't using note pads and wrote the order on their hand. Some of the food wasn't great and seemed dry. And it says on the website that food stops services at 6 which is not true as we ran to the pub and ask, and they said they never heard of that.

Below average food, poor service. After reading reviews of this pub we had positive expectations. We had a meal as a family at this pub. We reserved a table for dinner in advance. We arrived and were pointed to our table. The pub was not particularly busy, there was no-one on the terrace or in the garden due to a recent downpour, and we were the only table seated in the barn. There were no menus on the table, after 15 mins of being sat at the table with no service we went to the bar to ask for menus and to check that the pub indeed offered table service, which they stated they did. After a further 20 mins of being sat at the table no server appeared. We ordered drinks and food at the bar. The food arrived and was average at best. We ordered more drinks when food was brought to the table, we had finished our meal and the drinks still had not arrived. There were servers coming in and out, clearing tables and seating other customers, not one checked in on our table, cleared our plates or offered drinks / dessert. We had to go to the bar to get our drinks order and order dessert. When dessert was brought to the table the plates from our main were still not cleared. The food was below average. Overall a disappointing experience.

It was our first and last time! My husband had to go look for a place to park our car because the one in the pub was completly full. When he told me that it took 10 minutes to get there until the pub, because he had to walk down the road. I told him we were leaving then. All this after having stepped over the dogs that were lying peacefully on the carpet with my 5-year-old daughter in my arms. It's okay for a pub to be pet friendly but apparently inside the pub they are the kings. I have never seen so many dogs per table. It was obvious that they were super busy so they didn't notice our absence. 10 minuts inside plus no parking space was enough for us.

Not be worlds quickest Costa but over hearing the staff they have recently just been trained and left to their own devices. I think people are extremely harsh as the service was good, a little slow but my drink was well made. Overall not a bad experience

5 out of 5! First visit, lively and friendly. Fantastic, tasty, hot fresh food. Starters, calamari, and chicken wings were delicious. Mains, kofte kebab, and pork kebab are also excellent. Buffalo fries were stunning. The two veggies with us had superfood salad and a sweet potato dish, which I was assured were really good!!! Good choice of beer and wine and delightful staff!! Cost us about £72 per couple, including drinks and gratuity, which I considered very acceptable for the evening we had! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. We will definitely be going back! 👍🏽
