Our first visit, eight of us met up for Sunday Lunch, the majority of the party opted for the Sunday Roast, this turned out to be a bit of a letdown. Although the portions were acceptable, the quantity of meat was less than impressive, only one thin slice of meat, this was a bit of a disappointment, as was seen by the expression on the faces of the party. Veg tasted smokey food quality aside, there was quite a wait for the staff to clear the main course dishes from the table. Consequently, there was a delay in dessert. To cap it all, we were asked to vacate the table as they were expecting another party. Not our problem, I fear. Overpriced

Sunday in November 2024 - We knew it would be busy as we couldn't get a table until 14.45. It was heaving. When I went to sit down at my place, I noticed the table hadn't been cleaned very well. I pointed this out and someone hurriedly wiped a cloth over most of the spillage, probably gravy. Later, when I picked up my napkin, it had stuck to the table on another dirty spot. For these reasons, I was going to rate 3 stars but the food was very good so I rated 4 stars. A previous comment included a pic of one slice of roast beef. My wife ordered that and her food portion was ample, as were everyone's - no complaints there. The servers were polite and friendly but at times we had a long wait. This was especially true of our puddings so I asked for the bill when they were brought over. We were four adults and one 3-year-old and our lunch took 2 and 3/4 hours which is rather a long time, especially for a small child.

For a pub that has the brewery where their cask conditioned real ales are produced in the same location (literally 15 metres away), it was a little surprising that when we arrived on a relatively quiet lunchtime there was no real ale available 😞

We haven't dined at the Duke of Cambridge for a few years and thought we would treat ourselves but doubt we will be returning there in a hurry. It wasn't as nice as the pictures on their website suggest and nowhere near as comfortable as the pictures look, with the plush armchairs etc. They must be in the attic! The biggest disappointment was the service and spent most of the evening listening to the two waitresses talking loudly, singing and laughing. We're all for everyone being happy but they seemed to forget they were there! The food was ok but unfortunately the triple cooked chips weren't really cooked properly and certainly not worth the prices they charge.

After many previous visits where everything was ‘5 star worthy’, our last visit a couple of weeks back the food and service were merely average. I hindsight I wish I had asked to remove the ‘compulsory’ optional service change which made the meal 10% more expensive! Pay a decent wage and allow tips to be at the discretion of consumers rather than the default on the bill. May try again for the benefit of the doubt.

A Woke pub, locally within 1mile there are two better options than this one. Bell & Dragon, Barely Mow - both excellent & friendly environments., this is a pub in demise, its current course of policy, food & reviews are a downward trajectory. Only saved by the building & location. Better options very close by.and the staff near by are lovely, friendly & accommodating. Sadly this place isn’t what it used to be. Saturday night and very quiet which was a surprise! Used to be overflowing. Not much choice on the menu, fixed price menu not available Saturday night, no steak frites, tiny portions and way too expensive. Had the crab cake and it wouldn’t have looked out of place as a starter. The waiter recommended adding chips as it was small, triple cooked chips with thyme and rosemary…. Don’t think so, more like thick cut shop bought that were quite greasy. Burgers were small, expensive and one little bit of lettuce, one little bit of tomato and a few chips… deserts weren’t much better but the apple and houseboy crumble was nice but again expensive! Sadly won’t be going again. 4 of us left disappointed and feeling out of pocket. Perhaps it’s better during the day when there’s more choice. Playground etc is great if you’ve got kids but sorry, won’t return after many years of frequenting this pub.

My son recommended this place to go to for our 35th wedding anniversary as our usual restaurant was shut. When we arrived we waited 10 minutes for someone to come out of the kitchen to show us to our table. No apologies. The restaurant was quite chilly so we ordered hot drinks. Starters arrived and I found a hair in my food . (Husband didn’t want to cause a fuss to the already disappointing start). Main course arrived and they hadn’t cleared the plates etc from the starter course. On the upside the food was good.

Walking into The Duke of Cambridge, one is greeted with a lovely atmosphere - a charming ambience in a traditional old English pub. My cousins and I had a family get together and occupied a large table in the restaurant area. We all only ordered a main course (thank goodness) as the food was extremely disappointing. Without exception, all 10 of us were disappointed with the food. Risotto: rice undercooked. Fish & Chips: small, tasteless soggy portion, Trout: dry, Steak - virtually cold and tough... I could go on and on. The value for money is non-existent. The servers did their best and gratuities included for their efforts but if it were my decision, I would have sent the food back. Simply not good enough at £22 for a meagre fish and chips etc. etc. Reading previous complaints, I see the proprietors wrote: “Thank you for your rating! We look forward to hopefully seeing you again soon.” That would suggest they did not read it or they do not care! I strongly suggest you modfiy your pricing to reflect the quality and quantity of the food. With such establishments under pressure, only those offering fair value for money will survive. The ’Bel & Dragon’ just a couple of miles away is a far better option.

Absolutely awful experience last Friday at the pub. Upon arrival 4 or 5 staff were standing behind the bar but not serving any of the people waiting. When I asked if we could sit outside one guy said yes, I’ll serve you, then halfway through ordering he decides to go on his break. When I ask where he’s gone, a girl very defensively says he deserves a break! Ridiculous. Instead of just looking after us, she continues to be difficult. Finally after taking our order we receive rude comments whilst walking away, like we were the ones being rude. Outrageous in hospitality. Then, when food arrives they’ve actually got my food order wrong. When I question it the server says I’ll go find out, but no one ever comes back to the garden to rectify or even just apologise. So sad when this place used to be amazing, and as a local resident they’ve lost my business for good. Do not waste your time here when so many other nice pubs locally!!!!

We live locally and have been to this pub many times. Two years ago the food was fantastic, staff friendly etc. Service this summer has been a completely different experience. We sat in the garden as the pub has a good play area for children. Almost all of the tables were covered in glasses and dirty plates, this continued throughout our visit. The staff were surly teenagers who didn't even apologise when the wrong food was delivered but tather acted as if we had done something wrong. Food was very average and overpriced. Toilets were not clean. Overall a poor experience and that is three local families who won't be returning.

So disappointing. We’ve been a number of times before and enjoyed it, but they have changed the menu and seem to have some new (untrained?) staff so this time it was very poor. First the food. It was difficult to find something on the menu to be excited about. Most of our table chose a burger to be safe but they were very small so most were left hungry. One of our party chose burrata and tomato salad but it arrived with a BBQ sauce on it. Most odd. It was inedible. Not only because of the sauce but because the ingredients were very poor quality. Second the service. It was very poor. The waiter bringing the wine didn’t seem to know how to open a (screw top!!) bottle, or pour a glass of wine. We had to ask for service several times. The restaurant was empty yet the bar was covered in dirty glasses. The staff were simply chatting behind the desk. There was no warmth to their welcome and no mention of specials or recommendations. We were just left to ourselves. Third the price. It was totally overpriced. We paid £177 for six and we had five mains and one starter (one dish each) plus one bottle of house wine. Fourth the result. We left early and went for pudding elsewhere!

Below average food, poor service. After reading reviews of this pub we had positive expectations. We had a meal as a family at this pub. We reserved a table for dinner in advance. We arrived and were pointed to our table. The pub was not particularly busy, there was no-one on the terrace or in the garden due to a recent downpour, and we were the only table seated in the barn. There were no menus on the table, after 15 mins of being sat at the table with no service we went to the bar to ask for menus and to check that the pub indeed offered table service, which they stated they did. After a further 20 mins of being sat at the table no server appeared. We ordered drinks and food at the bar. The food arrived and was average at best. We ordered more drinks when food was brought to the table, we had finished our meal and the drinks still had not arrived. There were servers coming in and out, clearing tables and seating other customers, not one checked in on our table, cleared our plates or offered drinks / dessert. We had to go to the bar to get our drinks order and order dessert. When dessert was brought to the table the plates from our main were still not cleared. The food was below average. Overall a disappointing experience.

It was our first and last time! My husband had to go look for a place to park our car because the one in the pub was completly full. When he told me that it took 10 minutes to get there until the pub, because he had to walk down the road. I told him we were leaving then. All this after having stepped over the dogs that were lying peacefully on the carpet with my 5-year-old daughter in my arms. It's okay for a pub to be pet friendly but apparently inside the pub they are the kings. I have never seen so many dogs per table. It was obvious that they were super busy so they didn't notice our absence. 10 minuts inside plus no parking space was enough for us.

We were staying at Tilford Lodge Retreat, so the pub is a short walk through the grounds. We had a very tasty dinner here one night and also discovered it is dog friendly. Our dog just lies under the table. We then decided to try their £22.95 - 3 course lunch one day. Things had been crossed off the mains, in fact things we had planned to order, so we decided to eat elsewhere as we wanted neither the steak not veggie offers. The following day we arrived at 12 for lunch, only to find our choices were again not available, it seems to be a delivery problem BUT the very obliging manager agreed that we could have substitutes ie, the fish and the pork dishes. Certainly can't say fairer than that. Our main courses were delicious and we both had onion soup to start, better than some we have had in France. The desserts were also delicious and huge! All in all we had one of the best meals we have had in a long while. Not just the food but the staff are very attentive without being overbearing. Visited for dinner as we were on holiday at the Tilford lodges about a 2 min walk away- which was perfect however we were slightly disappointed. My partner had the steak burger and I had the pot pie. The pot pie wasn’t really a pie as was cooked in a griddle looking dish with a bit of pastry slammed on the top. It was quite herby which I didn’t expect and not really my taste. The steak burger was cooked in some sort of sauce which wasn’t very nice and the burger wasn’t great. When it said steak burger we expected it to be more than your standard beef burger but it pretty much was a beef burger. Although the beef dripping chips were delicious! Outside was lovely they had the fire heaters which made it cosy. The staff were also good, and you could clearly see they were busy but still served us very quickly and made us welcome. When we first walked past to find the entrance, we heard dogs barking inside and the pub was packed. It instantly put me off as why do I want a nice dinner with my partner with dogs barking? Hence why we ended up sitting outside. We didn’t go back in the end.

I looked for a new place that does a decent roast; my wife and I chose this pub but faced severe service issues. While we could see that it was busy, we didn’t expect an hour's wait for our roasts. Our order got lost, leading me to intervene at the bar and ask where our food was. The meals arrived swiftly after, literally 60 seconds, a little too quick and were cold, indicating they’d likely been overlooked and potentially left on the pass for some time. Despite this, the chef deserves praise for the nicely flavoured food, near-perfect roast potatoes, and decent-sized carrots and parsnips, albeit cold (I'm sure it was hot when it was plated). Service suffered from a lack of direction and coordination, with staff appearing disorganised, lacking apparent teamwork and poor leadership, and communicating poorly, or not at all, as they ran around in their own little bubbles save for two girls who seemed to be working well together and working in a methodical manner and communicating very well. This was exacerbated by a blonde (sorry, I don't know names) staff member at the kitchen entrance adjusting her hair and jewellery, distracting another already busy colleague, all in direct view of at least four waiting customers, and getting in the way of the bar staff, kitchen staff, and restaurant staff as this seemed to be a main junction between the three. This oversight negatively affected our experience despite the efforts of some obviously hardworking staff members. The atmosphere was great, but the staff's stress could be felt, and was noticeable, no doubt from the busy period, with them often having to excuse themselves to customers as they rushed past, almost making me not want to ask anything in case I made things worse for them. The disorganisation and the food's delayed and cold arrival marred what could have been a delightful meal, leaving us with a disappointing impression. The search goes on for a nice place to have a roast.

I had the Confit Belly of English Pork, spring vegetable and white bean cassoulet, salsa verde. It looked really good. Extremely disappointing visit on Saturday. Our table was for 3.30. The team had obviously had a busy lunch session and we were the space between lunch and dinner. A point implied to us by staff when asked if we had enjoyed our meal and received the reply the no we had not thanks to the inattentive staff. Firstly the food: both kids had the chicken burger that were fine. I had the chicken pot pie. The pie had an over powering herb taste and was very shallow in depth and very watery. Exceedingly disappointing. My wife had the salmon and prawn fish cake. Very tasty but for the price we did not expect a starter portion size. My tip if you choose to eat here, eat before you come as you will leave hungry. Being still hungry following our meal we chose the crumble with custard. The size of the custard was about the size of a sachet. Also there was the thinest ever crumble top. 1 out of 10 for dessert. Secondly the service: Seated for over 10 mins before asked if we would like a drink. We were not asked at any point during the service if we would like a second drink. Staff had to be prompted by going to the bar to ask for drinks and menus etc. I have been here several times before. To be honest this will be the last visit. Completely uninterested staff, food that is trying to be something it definitely is not and way too overpriced. We currently get to spend only 30 hours a week together as a family and this meal was an important chance for us to be together and catch up. Instead of being enjoyable we now only remember it for Completely the wrong reason. Sort your kitchen out, train and manage your staff. You have gone very far downhill.

We had a wonderful evening with our U13s rugby tour. The staff at the Duke of Cambridge were incredibly helpful and despite our large party number of 37 we all had a great meal. The staff were very understanding with our presentation and court session post dinner and so hospitable despite the unusual nature of the gathering. Thanks to all the staff; Evie, Zach, Betty, Amelie and Daisy in helping us in making our 2024 rugby tour a memorable occasion for our boys.

Lovely pub, with warm and friendly decor. Staff were really friendly and accommodating. Food was ok, could have been a little hotter but otherwise good.

Afraid this pub has gone downhill. Not comparable to others in the chain. Both service & food was poor. Waiters didn’t know what they were doing & service was painfully slow. First caffe came out cold. Then the goats cheese, heritage tomato & olive salad came out with no olives and the waiter said the black bits were “olive dust”. Ordered the Apple crumble and the custard was look warm and the consistency of water.

We always visit when staying at the local lodges as food has always been good standard. We went for steak night and was really disappointed. There were two options offered and we orderded the upgraded flank fillet, which wasn't available, instead offered a rump. It was awful. Tastless, chewy and I'd be surprised if it weighed 5oz. A number of desserts weren't available. Staff were pleasant, but needed more training and support. We chased for drinks, the bill, service wasn't great. Don't think we will visit again.

Wanting something a little bit different to Xmas roast I opted for the fish. The most disappointing Christmas meal ever: Monkfish thermidor, a very small portion containing very little fish and served with 5 tiny potatoes. Very poor indeed.

I visited for Mother's Day with my 17 year old son, for the four course meal. Every course was delicious - focaccia bread with a balsamic honey dip, I had the burrata with asparagus which was delicious. I loved the pea and mint risotto and my rhubarb dessert was both unusual and gorgeous. I could see that our waitress, Evie, and the other staff were incredibly busy. However, she was super helpful and friendly and gorgeous with our dog. I look forward to returning

I would definitely recommend the salmon and prawn fishcake. We look forward to returning and trying some of the other pubs that are linked to it.

I haven’t given a one star review purely because the food was actually quite decent, but this had to be one of the worst experiences we’ve ever had in a restaurant. None of our dishes came at the same time, with a huge wait between each arrival, so none of us were eating lunch together. Everything took a ridiculous amount of time to arrive. And even when it did come, there were mistakes, which caused even more delays. I’m not normally one to leave a bad review because I know sometimes these things can’t be helped when it’s so busy etc, but the thing that bothered me most is that nobody even acknowledged or apologised for it or bothered to explain what was happening, until we brought it up ourselves. And the male manager on duty in particular did nothing to try and rectify the issues, even after we brought them up, which to me is really poor form and shows a total lack of care for the customer. One excuse (among many) was that the problems were caused by us moving inside (pinning the blame on us essentially). I’m sorry but all we did was ask to move to an inside table, long before our food arrived, which the manager himself arranged for us, so I don’t see how it could cause so much chaos. In the end we asked for a partial refund, which was given, but to be honest it was far too little, too late. We won’t be coming back. And judging by some of the recent reviews, we’re not the only ones.

We arrived in Tilford for 4 nights R&R on 11th March and visited the Duke of Cambridge on the first evening for dinner. The staff were welcoming and friendly. We ordered drinks and perused the menu, opting for ox cheek pie, pork belly and the Thai chilli pork. My mum and sister enjoyed theirs but my Thai chilli pork was so so salty, I tried to eat it and was hungry enough to but it was just awful and made me feel ill. We told the waitress of the issue when she came to clear the plates, she said she would report that back to the kitchen. We paid the bill in full as there was no recompense offered for the dreadful meal and headed back to our lodge, during the night I was sick as a result. We had intended to eat there all week but after this we went to a different pub down the road which was lovely.

Over priced and underwhelming food. I havent been to this pub for awhile and was extremely disappointed to find it had gone into decline. The place was cold they even provide blankets in the main part of the bar/restaurant, which we had to use to keep warm. The sandwiches we ordered were masquarading as club sandwices. The presentation of the sandwich was poor. It was served on a small wooden platter, totally impractical and it gave us the impression they were trying to 'tart it up' to justify the hefty price tag. My friends and I will not be visiting again and will certainly be telling friends of our experience. I am always fair on my reviews and this review represents my experience at this pub.

Went for a friends birthday after hearing leave reviews about the roast dinner. Arrived and was seated, before the nan says hello he said “you’ve got an hour girls” really?? £23 for a roast beef. 2 very thin slices of beef, 3 small roast potatoes, lots of limp green veg. My friend asked for a portion of cauliflower cheese. I wish I’d taken a photo when it arrived.. it was black, dried out in the tiniest ramekin with absolutely no cheese on it, that wasn’t burnt on anyway. She said can you change it and he very reluctantly did. It was £4.50 or something! Over £100 for 3 roast dinners and a kids meal. It’s a roast dinner. Not exactly hard. Service poor food poor. Won’t be back.

6-7 items was off the menu today due to fan problems, to be honest we was left with a chicken option which was a chicken breast chopped up with tarragon and mushrooms and a wedge of bread. We would not return back to this restaurant at all. Very poor and didn’t even get a discount for the distribution…. Hope you do better, but unfortunately we will not be returning.

Garth and his staff deserve compliments, not complaints. Eventhough they were short staffed, they remained welcoming, extremely friendly and were doing their best to maintain high standards in a busy restaurant. Food is good value, seating area and atmosphere is much better than other local garden centres. Only downside today it was cold in the restaurant.

Lovely pub, a little gem. Located in the middle of a busy roundabout. All staff very friendly and welcoming, great food and choices. Prices are excellent, very reasonable. Here to celebrate mum’s 70th Birthday and the team were very helpful and welcoming and great communication via email. We came to the Inn on the lake for a Wake. We had a lovely experience even for a very sad occasion. Right from the first phone call, we received such compassionate service. We couldn't fault anything, the welcome we all received, the food, the actual venue. They met all our needs, and we were so grateful. A very big thank you has to go to Nicky for all of her help and kind words.
