Great greeting, led to lovely seats to wait and wait and wait. No, they were not busy. The waitress who presumably was allocated to our area took three customers ahead of us who came in after. The last straw was when she looked at us then went and leaned on the counter before chatting to another customer. It was obvious we had not been attended to, our menus were clearly visible on the tables, they were removed when orders were taken. What should have been a lovely treat, prices were high, became a disappointing waste of time. We walked out. There are many tea shops around, better value and with fab friendly service

Disappointing , I had a Caesar Salad . The lettuce was gritty . My wife had fresh fish Goujons with salad on a bloomer . She spent most of the time picking the bones out of the fish . Food preparation was sadly lacking . Both came under the heading Sandwiches which was strange . Poor value .

Treat yourself What a lovely place to sit and have a coffee. Stunning surrounds today in the giant teepee. Lovely fire in the centre with Halloween decorations. Both had cheese cake with filter coffee and latte. Couldn’t have wished for a nicer treat in lovely surroundings..friendly staff also

We have been going regularly to the cafe for about 7 years and always found a warm friendly service and very high quality home cooked food. Take no notice of some of these reviews which do not match our experience over years,

This coffeeshop has so many tables crammed into a small space that unless you are a stick insect you cannot breath! Had a cream tea and cream portions smallest I have EVER seen and when I asked for more as I had a scone left they did not tell me but when I came to pay I was charged extra. Disgraceful. Decor bad, covering damp and holes in walls incorrectly rectified amongst others no real character

Food was nice but the woman looked at me bizarrely when I asked about a vegetarian English breakfast which I found quite unfriendly! Worth going to other places first

Good little coffee shop, nice warm tea cake. Gets a little busy so service may be little longer. I had coffee and cake-very nice, but the lunches being served looked delicious. Beware- couldn’t see the notice on the door, but CASH only!

Ummmm not sure what to say really, on the outside a lovely looking place, ordered vegetable soup, bread came out looked lush, soup arrived and ummm this is where the place let’s itself down it can only be described as hot dish water no veg, and what was in it was as if it had been grated in raw, no seasoning, it was rather unpleasant. We won’t be back.

We visited here for lunch in August. We arrived early so there was plenty of room. There are only a few tables and they quickly fill up, which is always a good sign. We were warmly welcomed and talked through the menu options. Lots of lovely things here and it can be hard to choose, both savoury and sweet. We chose, soup (parsnip and orange) and a jacket potato. The soup which was an unusual flavouring pairing was lovely and came with huge slices of freshly made bread. The potato was served in its own little dish which made cutting it up a little tricky. Good coffee here as well.

I checked the reviews on Trip advisor and chose this one for our cream tea. We were not disappointed. The scones were warm and tasted wonderful, the service was great and the coffee shop was pretty and atmospheric. I would definitely recommend.

What a find. Still hungry after a revolting meal at Duchy Nursery we gratefully stepped into this little old cafe. I thought I couldn’t go wrong with a toasted tea cake at £2.50. It was simply superb - plump, war, filling, tasty, brown, dripping in butter. I asked the waitress if it had been whole meal. Oh that’s the spices she puts in, she said. Incredulous I said was it homemade? Oh yes she said - everything’s homemade here. So a home baked tea cake for £2.50, cakes, and main meals for £6 odd. Fantastic.

This café is not to be confused with the Duchy of Cornwall Nursery Cafe which is a few miles away. The images are mixed up. This one is the small indoor one in the town of Lostwithiel. Decor is ok, clean but a bit cramped. The menu is quite overpriced so we only had hot drinks and we realised our opinion was correct when we viewed other establishments nearby after our visit here. The tea for one is very average, with only 1 teabag and only one very little jug of milk which was for not only my tea but my husband's coffee. He was asked how he would like his milk but I wasn't and then we had to share! We ordered a cheese scone each, which was slightly warm, but not really enough to melt the very hard portions of butter. The scones however, were very nice. Not once did the waitress come over after serving us to see if we wanted anything else. Another lady walked through, who I assume was the proprietor by her air of authority, but she didn't acknowledge us. The café was quite full, but the staff didn't bother at all with anyone. Eventually the waitress came back and I enquired where the 'ladies' was. This is very, very tiny and in need of a good clean on the pipes and walls. When I returned, we again waited but no-one came to us and eventually I had to get up and ring a bell to get attention to pay the bill. There was hardly any communication from the waitress, just the total amount. Needless to say I didn't leave a tip, but if I did it would be a verbal one: be more attentive to your customers as there are quite a few other, better value establishments very close by! We won't be returning.

First of all the Duchy Coffee Shop in Fore Street is completely different from the Duchy of Cornwall Nursery and Cafe. Some reviews here relate to the second and not the first and in fact the pictures at the top relate to the second also and not the Cafe in Fore Street. Called into the cafe for a coffee and teacake. Both very good and served by very helpful staff. Place was clean and tidy with a few local residents also enjoying a drink. Nice elevenses and the lunch menu look very inviting too.

In our opinion THIS CAFE HAS INCREDIBLY RUDE STAFF. DELIBERATE OVERCHARGING. VERY POOR INDEED. there are other cafes further down the road that were packed and looked lovely. This one was quite rightly almost empty. Find somewhere else. Anywhere else

Lovely lunch today . Good honest food , fresh produce and well presented . Lovely staff, courteous and service was good . We were entertaining our Australian relatives and it could not have been nicer. We had a fish pie , good amounts of fish and potato, a BLT and a cheese soufflé . Dessert looked good but we retired to see HRH’s garden centre. A word of caution , get there early as very popular and busy. Extensive breakfast menu which stops at 11.15. No sign of Prince Charles .... too busy counting his money in the counting house .....,

Stopped here for lunch after driving down to Cornwall. Cafe is a bit cramped. Wouldn't like it when it was full, luckily it was quiet. Food was good value and filling but only average in quality. My quiche was a little chewy and my husband's cottage pie could have done with more gravy. Also the toilet is basically in a cupboard that I had to duck down to get in.

We visited the very interesting old town of Lostwithiel with some family members & after browsing around the shops & antique centres, we went into this café for refreshments. The café itself is very small & cramped & it is quite difficult to get yourself seated comfortably. They can provide you with hot & cold snacks, as well as some very basiclarger meals if you require something more substantial. We were not overly impressed with this café.

I recently purchased a selection of cakes to take away and I have to say they were the most disgusting I have ever eaten! The so called buttercream filling was in fact just margerine and the cake mixture itself was clearly packet variety. I will never go there again

Popped in for a snack after walking around the town. Very friendly welcome. Hot chocolate was excellent as was the scone and jam, teacake was just a little chewy. Prices perhaps just a little on the high side.

Needed a drink and a snack after a long drive. Wandered around the town streets and decided to enter The Duchy. Pleasant ladies in charge and the menu is actually quite extensive. We were only after a snack and two of our party were gluten intolerant so asked if they had anything for them. Were told that scones were one of the available items and they tried them - we had had a terrible experience with scones at Tintagel Castle cafe (tough and stale) so warned the ladies that we were super critical - no worries - the scones were great. Overall the whole experience was very good. One of the ladies was a fanatical collector of Betty Boop memorabilia ( I remembered Betty from my own misspent youth and was rapt to see all the items on display - just another unexpected highlight for our trip. Recommend The Duchy

The staff were very friendly. The hot drinks were alright and the cakes were alright. They didn't rush us. The whole atmosphere was really nice and lovely. I didn't have to raise my voice to speak to my boyfriend who has a hearing impairment which is a hearing aid.

We were on holiday and ended up eating here 3 times. We had our dog who typically was nervous in eating places so we never bothered eating out, we were given a table in the corner and asked for the same one every time which they obliged as she was settled, it helped that the staff were all so helpful and the food was so nice, would highly recommend the Pityme Inn and we will visit again, it made our holiday
