Exqusite food, very homely atmosphere - excellent service, we keep coming back. The ingredients are super fresh and of a high quality - every time. This is a rare find - we recommend this old beautiful pub to all our friends.

A joy to go to a pub that's not been given the Farrow & Ball, disney pub overhaul. Really great Sunday lunch, friendly staff. A delight. If someone tries to "restore" it, please get in touch and I'll come by to drown them in gravy.

Great looking traditional English country pub which had a good buzz about it, but the landlord didn’t seem to be a happy soul and under pressure. The shared platter for £24 was an absolute rip off, with autumnal lettuce, marmite sticks that were not fresh and bizarrely no fresh tomatoes.

Have been aware of The Dolphin for many years whilst travelling through the lanes en-route to Gatwick, but never used it before. Needed a convenient half-way meeting point for lunch with friends from Sussex. Enjoyed the meal, nothing pretentious, well-cooked food, decent portion size, reasonably priced, friendly staff, good service. Recommended!

We had an excellent lunch. Our fish and chip meal was not only hot and tasty, but the portions were substantial. We also had an excellent bottle of house white wine. Table service was swift and our waitress was very attentive, friendly and polite. Overall, our experience at the Dolphin Inn was very positive. We would definitely come again.

A completely average visit at non average prices. Charging £21 for a roast and then trying to charge 12.5% service is a bit steep. The food was no more than average. Beef was cooked more than I would have expected. Roast potatoes slightly overdone. A small selection of vegetables. All of it was rather uninspiring. Deserts were okay-a bit dry (sticky toffee needed more toffee sauce). When I asked about a specific white wine variety (Chenin blanc-hardly unheard of in a restaurant setting) I was greeted with a reply of “oh I don’t drink wine I don’t know”. Charging 12.5% service I would expect a better understanding of the wine menu and also an offer of recommendations with the meal. It’s such a beautiful pub but the dining experience was no more than average I’m afraid to say.

Another Surrey Sunday roast club visit still looking for the best Sunday roast in Surrey. One of my family favourites the Dolphin had to be up there… But as always if you big up something too much something will disappoint. We love the pub and the atmosphere, welcoming and cosy on a cold wet ‘spring’ day, the dog also felt very welcome with a doggy wall showing all the friendly faces. Down to business, the roasts are all good but not quite as good as previous pubs less veg and drier potatoes than hoped, but the friendly helpful staff were pleasant and assisted with any issues, a side of cauliflower cheese was a nice option although with the amount of gingery mouths didn’t go far 😋 Dessert was nice but the sparse menu didn’t allow a great choice. All in all another nice lunch but food which didn’t bowl us over. We will visit again in the summer as the garden is a lovely space for a sunny afternoon.

Nice pub setting, food was really poor. We ate at 1500. Sadly the food was not fresh and tasted like it had been sat on the side since noon, the vegetables were mushy, the roast potato like rubber and the meat over cooked. With a gravy that was gloopy and gelatinous. The pudding was marginal, the sticky toffee pudding tasted like it was a cheap microwaved version from a supermarket, that had then been burnt. Drinks were good and staff ok. Won’t be back in a hurry.

Pretty village pub opposite a church which has featured in the movies, there is a nice lane close by with a short walk along fields to the village shop. We had two courses no room for pud! The salmon and mackerel pate was fresh, tasteful, plentiful, with super local butter and nice bread, enough for a light lunch. Some of us had the chicken ceasar salad which was simply great, if you are not a fan of garlic have the dressing to the side as it is delicious but the generous portion may not be to everyone's taste. One of our guests said the fish pie was the best he'd had in a long time. Another had the enormous fish and chips and failed to finish. We were delighted with the service, the local ale, the incredible food and ambiance along with a little walk to the shop to use up the excess calories! Recommend for a weekday lunch it's great value and there is a nice garden.

Table of three, including our young son, we were the first table to arrive on 01/04/24 and were greeted by friendly staff. The service was not at fault but many other things were. We were given a dangerous baby high chair with missing and loose bolts. We tried a main and pudding each, one meal out of the four was acceptable. The fish was terrible, the apple tart was terrible, the crumble was terrible. This was not because they were busy, during our cover they were not. The fish was small and looked as if it had been cooked many times or in dirty oil. Sparse chips and cold peas, mixed with some very dodgy and small curry sauce, however this was needed to get the fish down. I was hungry and needed to eat which is the only reason it didn’t go back. My crumble was lacking in crumble, it broke up like bad tasting sand over some fruit, again the cream it came with allowed me to get part of it down but I had to give up after the stale taste became too much to wash down. My partner had an okay sausage and mash. Her apple tart pudding tasted overlay of egg, was cold and just generally not a nice pudding. She left all but the ice cream as she was not able force it down like I could with mine. This was a total let down for our 11th year anniversary, after having great food here all those years ago. I don’t know what has changed, but if you keep serving food like this you won’t have any bookings for food soon! I never write reviews but this really excelled at being bad, probably the worst meal of the last five years.

Fish and chips with mushy peas and curry sauce sounded just the ticket on a Bank Holiday Monday lunch out with friends. "Why is it taking so long?" asked my husband, after almost an hour of waiting at our pre-booked table. I hoped that was because it would be freshly cooked and delicious, but when it finally arrived, to say it was underwhelming is an understatement. His steak, which was supposed to be bavette (traditionally a long thin cut of flank steak), was small thick and rubbery. Three of us were presented with a miniscule piece of battered fish, accompanied by a sparse amount of chips and an ice cold dollop of mushy peas. Our friend pointed out the tiny portion size to the lady who served us and said we had seen far more impressive battered fish being served at alternative venues nearby. She said she would pass on our comments to the chef. We had to ask for the advertised curry sauce that was supposed to accompany the fish, and when it arrived, in small tin bowls, not only was it also cold, but it was the consistency of dishwater, much like my husband's unappetising and bland peppercorn sauce. The promised extra 'warm' peas and additional fish completely failed to materialise. I felt so thoroughly let down that I sent my meal back. It was taken off the bill without question, but also with no hint of an apology. We had high expectations of this pub, because our friend had previously eaten there and loved it, but after this disappointing experience we will definitely not be returning here for food. On the plus side, the pub is cosy, has an open fire and is steeped in history, so it is a nice venue, provided drinks are all that's required.

1st April 2024, went for lunch as had a fair meal here previously. Fish and chips really small portion of fish, mushy peas cold, had to ask for curry sauce which when turned up watery and not like previously (thick and in ceramic sauce bowl) felt second rate. Loved the pub, drinks good but highly unlikely to eat here again. Disappointed as we had guests.

We tried the prawn cocktail which seemed to be very rubbery canned shrimp. Thankfully we had our dog with us; she managed to eat the shrimp (we would have still been chewing). The pear, walnut salad with perhaps celery dressing (we could not name the dressing as it had no taste whatsoever) was just sad. The walnuts appeared to be for baking and lettuce was limp (maybe old). The pear was actually tasty. We had deep fried hake/scampi (?) which could have been anything as it had nothing but a deep fried taste. The chips were delicious. A piece of bread with butter appeared at our table which we did not order but guessed it came with the salad; we were surprised to see a charge for the bread on our bill. I mentioned this to the staff but nothing was done to adjust our bill (we didn’t eat the bread). The beer was delicious and the place/atmosphere was quite lovely. We didn’t feel terribly welcome by the staff but the other patrons and their dogs were quite lovely. I would go for a beer here again but definitely eat elsewhere.

The pub itself has a classic pub feel which makes it a lovely place to go for a drink. There is a great selection of beers, and the lunch menu was good, with a hearty portion size. Definitely one of the best pubs in the...

The staff were five star - welcoming, knowledgeable, and helpful. There was a good ambiance in the place. They had the Grand National on TV out front and that looked like fun but we went to the charming back area and that was great. I...

We were booked in for a birthday tea specially, even though they weren't doing teas that week. When we arrived a lovely big table with white tablecloth and napkins was ready for us. We were offered coffee and tea, which came promptly, followed by a plate of hot snacks and a cake stand containing a mouth-watering selection, including egg mayonnaise, coronation chicken and cheese and ham sandwiches. The bread was beautifully soft, with the crusts cut off. In addition were warm scones with jam and clotted cream, topped off by a selection of mini cakes. We were so full we had to take the cakes home! Thank you to Penny, who took such good care of us, and the other members of staff who made us feel very special.

Attached to the Vineries Garden Centre. We visited this coffee shop, which overall in our opinion was below par. Uncomfortable seating and a very basic layout. The service was robotic. Coffee was OK but the cakes were poor and vastly overpriced.Overall it did not float our boat.We wished we had given it a miss
