Three or four lagers, plenty of draught and cask ales, and the guinness is OK as well. Lots to choose from on the food front and good portion sizes, although fish and chips tasted frozen which is poor when paying £15. Dog friendly and a function room as well. Some odd decor but comfortable and warm. Good for a family meal, or a few on the weekend. Not accessible for wheelchairs or low mobility.

We want to thank all the staff for making our Sunday dinner experience so much easier for us. Our mum has dementia, being so young most people don’t assume she is ill with it, and people can often find her behaviour offensive and it can be difficult to even go out for dinner. However the staff today helped make our experience so easy and they couldn’t do enough. We want to give a special mention to Jack, his kindness and friendly nature with our mum gave us so much support and enabled us to enjoy a meal out all together. Thank you Jack.

Came today for Sunday lunch after being recommended by friends. Really wish we had gone elsewhere. Tables are crammed in, uncomfortable and small. Service was poor. We had to flag down a staff member to order drinks and then flag another down 15 minutes later to order food. No one came and checked if our food was ok. It wasn't. The meat was dry, over cooked and flavourless. The roast potatoes were old tasting. Yorkshire pudding was a thick, doughy pancake. Veg was hard Gravy mediocre Cauliflower cheese had just had some cheese waved at it! Everything was lukewarm and tasted like it had been cooked hours ago and left on a hot plate. We had planned to stay for pudding but didn't bother. Every table we saw had left lots of food. Unusual for a roast dinner!

Great place for Sunday roast and family get-togethers. We came here for a birthday get together and everybody cleared the plates with very fussy grandchildren. This was good to see been here a few times and it never disappoints book a table early. It’s gets very busy and when you see the food and taste it you can understand why. I do feel it’s somewhat understaffed at busy times, but that’s the nature of a country pub slow pace. The outside space, has grown since our last visit and very child and dog friendly. There were 12 of us for Sunday roast and the food came out hot and on time we will return.

Beautifully succulent and tender burger, soft bun with perfectly cooked chips. The beer flows (Camden pale on draught) and the service is top notch! The pub is dog friendly and has a really good atmosphere inside. There is a terrace with private bench seating and garden seating close to a children’s play area. Perfect for the summer, delightful for the winter it’s perfect all year arround! Lauren (the chef) and the bar staff have out done themselves. We will return, many times.

We booked a table for the first time here for six adults, two kids and a high chair, on a busy bank holiday Sunday. After a quick change around of the tables by the helpful staff, we sat down and had drinks. We did wait a good while for our food, as it was very busy, but it was well worth the wait. Piping hot roast dinners, lots of meat, lots of gravy with each meal, plenty of veg, and the huge table share Yorkshire puddings were fab too. The food was great, the service was great, the staff were very helpful and extremely friendly. Kids area is secure, with enough to occupy them for a while. Would definately recommend for a family meal, and we will be visiting again

We used to love visiting the Dog house but it has been lacking more recently. We met friends for drinks after Christmas and I ordered a Pinot Grigio. When it arrived the smell from my glass was very strong and initially made me think the wine was off but then I realised the glass was just really dirty and that’s what I was smelling. My husband ordered another round and noticed the server at the bar was wiping the glasses with a filthy tea towel which probably explained the smell. It’s a shame as this used to be a great local pub! It seems they need training in environmental health issues

We popped into the Doghouse on Friday night to watch the football and get some dinner. We ordered the chicken burgers which came with onion rings. After biting into an 'onion ring' it turned out to be calamari that the chef had mixed up. When the young guy behind the bar came back we alerted him to the fact and that I was also allergic to calimari. His response was 'oh that is a big f*** up'. We had to leave to go home and have medication, despite this only 1 of our meals was refunded, not both. Also no manager or anyone more senior even bothered to come out to speak to us. This is a mistake which could have been fatal if the allergy was severe and not an okay mistake to make. Mistakes happen, but the handling of this was so poor.

Yesterday I took my family for Sunday lunch. Two of us ordered the half option. What we got was not half a duck! It was a duck breast with the skin from half a dusk but there were no legs, thigh or drumstick. I showed it to one of the waitresses and she went to talk to the manager about my complaint but no one came near us. When we paid the bill we were charged for two half ducks! As I didn’t want to cause a fuss we paid the bill and left! The menu says half a duck and that’s what I expected, not a breast and a whole side of duck skinn. The rest of the family’s meals were fine as were the veg and Yorkshires! The price of the half duck was 14 + and that’s what we paid!

Although they did say they had agreed to have it stay open long when evidence was produced to say the time of the booking had been agreed. If there was a problem and things had to change at short notice would have thought they would have contacted us. Although most of the meals were OK, food could have been hotter. May be its me but did expect the chips to at least look as if they where home made and not out of a freezer packet and look as if they had been kept warm for a while but then by that time it was after the initial kitchen closing time. As I said disappointing.

We drove over from Milton Keynes. Sunday lunch - Roast lamb @ £13.95 - Pre-cooked 'giant yorkshire puds' were soft and a bit too chewy; no crunch at all. The other ingredients were ok but soft roast potatoes suggested that some pre-cooking and reheating was going on. Meat was lovely. Gravy was too thick and too much of it. Substantial portion size though. Starters were all accompanied by bread and no gluten-free option was indicated. Menus had little or no detail. Almond Sponge is in fact a chocolate and almond torte with chocolate sauce. This wasn't clear. The food is a bit over-priced and very basic; no frills. Typo on the menu stated 'Mirangue' instead of 'Meringue'... Ladies and Gents toilets are labelled 'B*****s' and 'Dogs'... (Trip Advisor classes the female dog word as a profanity and wont allow it in my review. So what might the general public think?) Beer was £4 a pint. Dining room was a bit dark. The car park and garden was very untidy and we had to access via the (wet) outside steps to the rear of the pub. Loads of deep puddles in wet weather right at the bottom of the steps. Will we go back? ...Probably not the way it is now... Lots of potential for growth with the new housing estate being built beside The Dog House Inn. I just hope the lovely friendly and accommodating staff can bring the standard up a notch. Turn 'pub-grub' into restaurant quality food to entice visiting trade as well as local trade. So much potential!!

During all the road work they have been closed a lot so I very much hope that it reopens brighter and better. I'd also like them to update and keep updating their website with opening times etc, as it's not usually correct ( prices were different as we're opening times ) two stars reflects how the place seems to be let down in sure with very little work it will be back up to 4/5 stars. Don't miss it just on a few reviews, try to support local pubs and go give it a try.

I've been to the Dog House many times and never been disappointed. The food seems home cooked and the Yorkshire pudding is enormous. Very friendly staff, great service and in a nice location. The menu is reasonably extensive but not too big which means the food they serve comes to you fresh and well cooked.

Firstly I would like to point out the staff at this place work so hard and are fabulous. We were promptly served by a very pretty red head who was very polite and prompt. After being seated we chose our meals and as soon as she saw we were ready to order came over with a huge smile and took our order. She also made sure we were good for drinks and these were constantly checked on all evening. Excellent customer service. The food was honestly the best roast dinner I have had at a pub. Absolutely delicious and I loved they served you huge dishes of veg and the biggest Yorkshire pudding you will ever see!We took family who were visiting from the US and they loved the British fayre and the great atmosphere this place has. I will say definetly book as it gets very busy but it's not essential and the staff will accommodate you as we saw many walk ins get seated rather quickly too.Another thing I love about this place is they serve Doombar ale which is my favourite. My uncle from California was able to try it after I had told him how good it is.Overall this place lives up to each and every one of the excellent reviews. I am shocked at some people who have reviewed this place anything but excellent!Another thing that I love about this place is it is locally run and the owner is also the chef there's nothing better than local run business. If you have never been it is definetly a place to try. The mid week menu looks gorgeous too something tells me we will be back sooner rather than later.

Popped in here for some food and drinks with friends this week. The place is being refurbished but we were made to feel most welcome and had a great time. The service was relaxed, professional and good banter was had by all.The food was excellent and the portions very generous.I would recommend this place to all and sundry.

I find some of the reviews very hard to believe as I have eaten in the doghouse many times esp Sunday's as we love there roasts and they are the best in the area by far. We have never had a bad meal here and the staff are always very friendly and helpful. I have also been to parties there and have found the venue is brilliant for them and the staff appear to have as much friend as the party goers so I'm not sure where they have been because I don't think it's the doghouse

After years of passing The Dog House on the way to somewhere, at last we came to eat here.Whilst it wasn't very busy, due to major housing developments nearby (don't be put off by 'Road Closed' signs) it was a most enjoyable experience with good food and friendly service. Prices were reasonable and would recommend this place and we'll return.Probably even better in the summer and hope that the extra population due to inhabit the new houses will give the Dog House the success it deserves.

We went here for Sunday lunch over the Christmas weekend. The atmosphere was buzzing. There were plenty of staff on to ensure everyone was attended too promptly The food and wines were all delicious. Would thoroughly recommend this inn. A little off the beaten track but well worth the visit.

We saw this place marked PH on our OS map, after a long morning walk up the Aylesbury arm of the Grand Union canal. We decided to call in for some lunch, its a lovely place, with an extensive menu. It was quiet (Thursday lunchtime). The people running it are friendly and the food was good. We paid £23 for two ciabbata s/wichs, with chips & sidesalad and 2 large glasses of wine, which I thought was reasonable.

What a shame we have eaten here many times before on sundays to enjoy the great roasts they do.. today we fancied a meal and it was just disappointing, ordered calamari well I think it was calamari when I came out from kitchen... it had no taste and from what I can see it had a reformed texture.. the lovely waitress took it back and explained and we heard the chef going mental and swearing.. it put us right off and when the waitress came back out and apologised we decided to ask for the manager to speak to us but the waitress said the chef was the owner lol.. but he didnt come out of the kitchen to speak to us but he will possibly reply here, we then decided to pay for our drinks and go but the waitress gave us them for free.. what a shame... the manager could of resolved the situation if just came out and spoke to us.

18 of us had a meal here after doing 2x 9 man TT around Silverstone. We were all looking forward to the food and we were not disappointed. It arrived just after we had gotten all a beer. It was hot and very tasty and there was plenty of it, so much so that a few left some, but great place and great tables and plenty of room...

Out for a lovely summers evening walk with our 2 dogs we decided to stop of at the Dog House for some refreshment & a bite to eat. Very quiet when we arrived but we were welcomed warmly by the young man behind the bar. We ordered our food & decided to eat outside. Food arrived & was lovely, Steak & Ale pie was good, all piping hot & served on hot plates. The only criticism I would add is that it would be nice if the ash trays were emptied (as a non smoker). We will definitely return to savour other items on the menu.

Nice stop for a coffee when you're walking along the Grand Union Canal. Dog friendly seating outside and table service. Food menu looked very nice, however we only had a coffee as we still had around
