Very nice pub, good vegan food and great service. There's nice extras like a cupboard full of games to play with and blankets you can use, in the garden, if you get cold. A very charming, very old pub with excellent food and service. We were welcomed by the barman, who was very friendly and cordial. I asked about their ciders and was promptly given samples of the two on tap. Both were nice, but I preferred the Rosie's Pig rhubarb. We both had the vegan lentil burger with chunky fries and side salad. Unlike most pubs we've visited, these seemed to be homemade on location rather than a frozen commercial patty, and they were quite good, as were the chips. The place was quiet while we were there, and offers several distinct seating areas, including a secluded courtyard, tables outside in front, and several different areas with both high and low tables inside. Adding to the homey touches provided by the photos and paintings of the area at various times in history were a box of games to play while you were there and a box of neatly-folded blankets with a sign encouraging you to borrow one if you were cold. I found this a particularly nice touch. There is also at least one fireplace with a supply of logs. Toilets were very clean, as was the rest of the pub. Very much enjoyed the time we spent there. Recommended!

Superb venue for meeting friends, work colleagues and family. Your hosts Dan and Emily and their staff go that extra mile to look after you. The food is all made on the premises and has many of their own twists to tantalise your taste buds.  There is a fine array of good quality real ale, trendy lagers and an excellent range of gin and special mixes. Give it a try, it's not the public house it used to be. It's trendy, well managed, super decor and it even has live local bands playing occasionally at weekends. Quiz night Wednesday's and then there is England rugby. Easily, the best and well managed venue in Aylesbury. You won't be disappointed.

Situated in old Aylesbury, overlooking the square. Lovely atmosphere with pleasant contemporary decor but still with a cosy traditional pub feel, especially with the open fire. A great range on the menu and all served very promptly and well presented. It was good to have coffee served in nice ceramic cups and a cafetiere instead of something out of a machine. Staff were friendly, though it was quiet whilst we were there. Should we be in Aylesbury again, it would definitely be first choice for lunch again. I have good memories of this pub. Having said that, my first memory from the 1970's, was this pub being full of market traders and members of the Irish community, that all liked to sort their disagreements in a physical way which made me wary of ever entering the building. As my teenage years arrived, I had many happy time frequenting this pub. In my sensible adult years, I have returned several times to listen to the many talented musicians that seem to live in the area. My most recent visit was a lovely memory of my past. For a Saturday night, it was quiet but I'd recommend the Rockwood as a piece of Aylesbury history, especially now, as other happy memories are; The Derby Arms = a block of flats; The Saracen's Head = a New Testament Church of God venue; The Dark Lantern = a noise box of a club!

Recently visited here, we were the second group in the pub, we ordered straight away, it did begin to get busy, but it took them an hour to serve two baguettes and a sandwich. When it finally arrived, the sandwich for my 4 year old daughter had mould on the crust, my wife took it back and showed them and said we had waited an hour for food, the landlord responded with 'can't you see we're busy' not a great reason for serving mouldy food. He was aggressive and said 'so what do you want me to do' when she said isn't that obvious, he threw the sandwich in the bin, threw a refund on the bar and then made no attempt to offer us another sandwich. I have eaten here at lunchtimes with friends over the last six months and the Rockwood has consistently delivered on their tasty lunchtime fare. This traditional 16th century pub offers good wholesome food, freshly cooked and served with smile. A broad menu choice of the sort of things you would generally expect, but a class above your standard Weatherspoons/Slug & lettuce offerings.Prices and portion sizes are good value for money and our meals have always been delivered to our table in timely manner. On a sunny day they have seating both outside next to the fountain in Kingsbury Square, or if you prefer somewhere more secluded, then the enclosed beer garden at the back of the establishment is a peaceful area to relax in away from the hustle and bustle, surrounded by the period buildings of old Aylesbury.I have visited in evenings as well and there has always been a great atmosphere, sporting a good selection of beers and offering something a little different and much more friendly than your standard night out.

This pub in Kingsbury Aylesbury has an old fashioned feel about it, but has also manage to blend modern aspects very well. The food we ordered arrived fairly promptly was cooked how we asked and was really very good. The staff were very friendly and knowledgable. There are other cheaper places to eat and drink in Kingsbury but they certainly lack the pleasant atmosphere of this place. There is also a courtyard at the rear of the building where customers can smoke that is a nice litle sun-trap particularly in the summer. The pub is also within a 2 or 3 minute walk from the County Museum (Roald Dahl centre) and St mary's church. all in all well worth paying a visit.

This pub (one of the few left in the country, I assume from expereince) actually serves real, freshly cooked food (that is really quite delicious) and is certainly worth visiting, if pub grub is your liking. One thing to note, however is (unlike the previous reviewer) I did not find the atmosphere particularly stunning. While it is certainly better than your usual Yates's or Whetherspoon's, I found parts of the decor (particularly the fireplaces) to be rather tacky, but don't let that distract you from the good food on offer.

The Sunday lunch menu has a nice range of dishes to choose from as well as several different roasts which are all served with a large Yorkshire pudding, selected veg, roast potatoes, gravy and cauliflower cheese. The portions are very good and each of us agreed that this was one of the best roast dinners we had had out for some time, also helped by the staff who are so friendly and helpful.
