Had previously booked but were told there was a 40 minute wait upon arrival, that wasn't a problem but we felt like we'd been forgotten, no one asked how anything was, couldn't get anyone's attention then was told upon leave it was 'super busy' by a waitress who spent most the evening talking. Finally had to question the bill as it was over double what we had, Finally left, won't be returning

Busy and buzzy. Very friendly and helpful staff. We were seated in full view of the open kitchen and it was a delight to watch a well drilled brigade under an efficient and firm chef. Altogether a great meal, generous and extremely well seasoned, hot, and delivered in a very acceptable time for a very busy service.

One of the top places for family dinners in the area. They sometimes mess up some food (bruschetta!!!) but the service and the atmosphere make up for any shortfalls in food. Still be the best pork belly one can get!

Let's work it out sharing platter or as it should be described...a bunch of smaa tomatoes, 2 pieces of bread, a mozzarella ball, 5 slices of meat and 6 olives. 1 slice of bread = 5p, 1 garlic slice = 20p, 1 mozzarella ball £1.50, 6 olives= 50p...dare i go on, Awful value, totally overpriced for what was supplied. No cutlery or condiments supplied and extras order were ascoli as the rest. We will NOT be returning.

Emily gave me an amazing table and went out of her way to look after my friend and I. We had fish finger sandwiches. The fish is lovely but not sure about them being in a flat bread so I asked for bread. My only negative comment is that it is quite expensive and had to buy the chips separately.

Sunday roast menu is awesome, and so is the steak. A must visit. 👌

Just returned from Sunday lunch at your Kingswood establishment and have to report how disappointed my wife and I have been. We had a most enjoyable lunch last week at Kingswood and thought we would return today to have Sunday lunch. Regretably I wish we had not bothered. The Management staff and supporting service was poor and unproffesional, the food was very average and did not support the costs compaired to the Canaletto restaurant down the road where the costs are mor competitve, service 10 times better and far better quality of food. Unfortunaetly we will not return to The Akeman Inn Kingswood again at the weekend and cannot recommend this venue to any of my friends and contacts. What a shame after being well looked after by Ewan at The Akeman during the week.

Food was great. Our waiting staff was mostly absent. It's a shame otherwise I would have scored it higher. We felt ignored.

Disappointing lunch - completely tasteless . I can only assume that they have changed where they source their ingredients as the food never used to be like this. Eating the pizza was just like eating bread with flavourless toppings (even the Nduja tasted of nothing?) and such a boring pasta dish. Such a let down as it has such potential...

Amazing service and food highly recommend

A beautiful, busy pub with a spacious but cosy interior & a steady stream of customers. They have a big menu, with plenty of vegan-friendly options. We visited on a Sunday & ordered from the brunch menu (smashed sweet potato / chopped avocado bacon & eggs). Our food was delicious but we did experience a few issues… the chefs had run out of sweet potato so my brunch dish had to be made with butternut squash instead & the bacon was missed off of my friend’s dish entirely. In addition, the portions were small given the prices & the service was fairly slow throughout (while we appreciated not being rushed, we also had to ask for the bill on x3 separate occasions!). Having said that, the staff were friendly & welcoming & all the food we could see looked fantastic so I would like to try visiting again. Recommend booking ahead because it gets busy.

We had lunch at Akeman inn and it was good. We turned up at 11.50 and got a table straight away. The lunch menu was extensive with a good mix of British classics and others like pastas and pizzas. We went for duck pate and soup of the day for starter and had fish of the day and the 12oz gammon with eggs for the main. All tasted good and the service was excellent. Pricing was average, definitely recommended!

Difficult review to write. On one hand the staff are very good, it's a nice atmosphere and the food is acceptable/good. But it's let down by long waiting times for service and prices which are just a few quid too much in my opinion - roast beef £22, roast lamb £22.80, two glasses of wine £18.30. And then they add 10% service charge, no idea if this is discretionary or not? Good but could easily be very good/exceptional.

What did it for me apart from the food being average and expensive was the lime and soda drink that I ordered, were the bar person measured into a thimble the lime, which I made a joke and was told they had to measure everything, then charged me £2.80. One bottle of lime cordial working on 50 shots is about £100, that is a joke.will I be back, don't think so

Beautiful atmosphere, very nice food.

Had a very nice meal here with family. We were served by MARISA, who I would have to say was one of the best waitresses I have come across in a long time. She was always smiling and knew exactly how to treat her guests and her upselling skills were spot on. Her employers are so lucky to have such a professional dealing with their guests.

I cannot fault this place the staff are so helpful and genuinely want you to have the most pleasant experience. My wife and I went for a Sunday roast and it is as good as you will get

(Jan 7th) When our booking for the evening was cancelled last minute, we wasn't sure where we could go. Luckily there was a table available here. We are so glad that we had the chance to eat here. We really enjoyed our food and would definitely revisit if in the area. We had the Mediterranean platter starter. I would highly recommend it. Great mix. The mains and dessert were delicious. Ewaiv was our server and we both felt he was excellent. He was attentive and informative. Very kind when I asked if I could swap the fries to the roast potatoes that were on the specials menu. Toilets were clean. A gorgeous fire place. The kitchen is open so you can see the chefs at work. If you're able to, do find time to visit.

We met friends here for breakfast. I ordered the eggs royale. Very disappointing, 2 overcooked poached eggs on a muffin, tiny bit of salmon, smothered in sauce. Not a garnish in sight. It was poor value for the £12.50 it cost. My wife's avocado and bacon and sour dough bread had a nice garnish, so did my friends avocado and salmon. This was the most disappointing breakfast I have ever had. The staff were lovely and the restaurant is really nice, we will go here again, but I won't order this again.

Absolutely amazing restaurant, one of my favorites and always consistent. Marisa is always fabulous, has a smile all the time, very happy to help. The staff are all wonderful, chef Henry and team are amazing. Just a must visit!! Thank you for always going above and beyond.

shocking!!!! no hygiene, watched the so -called chef touch all the food rearranging chips on plates with his hands after wiping his forehead... be warned... its very expensive for bland boring food. No welcome , no staff to serve, food left under lamps for over 10 mins drying up.... I honestly have no words and cannot reccommend.

Run of the mill 'gastropub'. Food was OK but pretty basic, with not that much care put into it. Menu describes elaborate fancy dishes that simply aren't delivered, eg mustard mash lacked mustard!

We have been here quite a few times to have food and drinks, it’s mostly always been a pleasant experience. Unfortunately Valentine’s Day was an entirely different experience. We didn’t plan on coming here but popped in on the way home from work. My husband was casually dressed as he had just left work and the manager clearly didn’t like this. ( he does not work in an office but was in no way scruffy or dirty). We tried to book a table online and it wanted a £20 deposit incase of ‘no show’. As we were there my husband asked the manger if we could just book a table. Manager said immediately they were fully booked. We questioned this as there were plenty of tables showing online, he then said we could book but only have 20 mins to eat. Again questioning this and showing him the app were there were plenty of tables available he stumbled over his words and said one has just this moment become available and we could eat at 6:30. At that point a party of 6 arrived who, it turns out booked the wrong location. However this was not at issue and they were able to immediately accommodate this party. Funny how this is the case when they were apparently fully booked less than 5 mins before. After this the manager became very sarcastic at every interaction with my husband. I wish this was the end but the food was abysmal. The Camembert was lukewarm and barely melted. The belly pork was so overpowering with the flavour of thyme and the gravey was 90% salt. The broccoli tasted like it had been in a fire for 2 days, I’m not even sure how this taste was achieved to be honest. The fish and chips I had was mediocre at best and all lukewarm. We did say something to our waiter (he was lovely and did everything he could to help) the main response was ‘we will pass it onto the kitchen’ Such a shame as the venue is lovely. It’s expensive but you don’t mind when It’s decent quality. Unfortunately this experience will now mean we won’t return and won’t recommend this lace to anyone.

Had an absolutely fantastic meal here with family today! Restaurant busy but staff still so attentive. One blonde waitresses, whose name I did not get was absolutely brilliant and so funny and bubbly to speak too. Everyone cleared their plates as the food was delicious, portion sizes were good and the bruschetta had plenty of tomatoes on. My father-in-law ordered prawns for a starter and had plenty of them, his main meal was made again at the request of the lovely blonde waitress as she wasn’t satisfied! My son’s pizza came out shaped like a fish, which he found very funny. Could not fault it at all and will definitely be returning 😊

My husband and I had dinner there on Valentine’s Day. I wanted to thank every one of the staff for being so polite and helpful under the pressure of such busy evening, specially Jen, who served us. Also food was amazing as always!

Have visited a handful of times and every time we’ve been blown away. The ambiance is beautiful, cozy and warm with a spacious area, outdoor seating with covers, a glitzy bar and open kitchen where the staff are always working so hard. Recently visited and decided on a wood fired pizza over my usual go to - the burger as I’ve given up eating beef. Our orders came and my pizza had caught slightly in the oven (understandable) I brought this up with a member of staff and they fixed it for me straight away, replacement was perfect. Stuck with our go to dessert - cookie dough pudding with salted caramel ice cream, unreal! A good range of non alcoholic cocktails too!

A huge barn of a place but fabulous. Great food & service. They have their own Pizza Oven & a great menu.

Came here for a Sunday roast. I had the beef which was tender and tasty. Roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding was delicious and lots of it. Lovely selection of vegetables. although the restaurant was pretty full, there were enough staff working who were polite and efficient. I will definitely be back soon.

Went here on the weekend with a friend for brunch. The venue is very nice with a cosy feel. Food was yummy and the coffee was also very good. Our waitress was called Lola and she was lovely. Very attentive and friendly. Would recommend coming here if you’re in the area!

Table for 5 on Sunday afternoon. A good mix of different meals ordered. Chicken burger, cheese and bacon burger, roast beef dinner, roast chicken dinner, salmon avocado and rocket salad. All great. Tasty and perfectly cooked, presented and served. A fantastic server Marissa with bubbly happy personality. Venue maybe slightly above average prices. But very good quality and excellent service, in spite of being very busy. Forgot to take photos 😋

We went for dinner for my mums birthday meal (6 adults, 1 toddler) and Amber could not have been more attentive to us. The service was quick and food outstanding. She was pleasant and friendly and we had a great experience dining at the Akeman that evening (01/02/24)

Too many staff members off ill today. Just one indomitable lady manning the entire contingent of customers @ The Akeman Inn and she was performing like an Artificially Intelligent automobile on Self-Drive mode while pulling it off with an unquenchable of charisma and a smile so lofty, it warms you like a bowl of soup on a cold winter's day. I had to tip! I couldn't help but tip!! It felt good to let loose the purse strings on account of this lovely lady!!!

Very friendly staff and great atmosphere. Warned us in advance certain dishes unavailable so we would not pick and be disappointed. The food was good and my daughter was very entertained by colouring in sheet and fairy lights.

Very good food, reasonably priced, and excellent service. Our waitress, Emily, our waitress, was delightful - attentive without being intrusive, polite, super-professional and quick to meet our every need/request. On the day of our visit the heating wasn’t working but Emily moved us closer to the wood-fired pizza oven and provided fluffy blankets, then moved us next to the large fireplace when a table became free. We felt really well looked after. The heating was being fixed while we were there, so the service provider must have responded within just a few hours. To summarise: great food, brilliant service by Emily.

Tables pre-booked for two parties of 12 each, overlapping, and the service and administration were excellent before the event. The food which was pre-ordered was excellent and enjoyed very much by all those attending. Would highly recommend to other groups wishing for a good meal Courteous and friendly staff. We were in the bar which was quite cold despite the fire being lit. Also chemical smell which we couldn't get away from. Bar food good and drinks good. Bar staff could concentrate a bit more on who they are serving/what they are doing rather than chatting to people at bar.

Had the fish pie from the special menu thoroughly enjoyed it, quite a big portion.Ewan was a fabulous waiter very chatty, friendly and attentive. knew the menu and suggested I try the fish pie.

Came for a Saturday lunch on a particularly busy day. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. All orders and modifications to both food and drinks were handled without problem. Great Pizza and food.

Stopped at this pub/restaurant for a quick bite and cuppa. Whilst it's dog friendly (a big plus), one meal was sent back. They were apologetic about the meal but the best part was the chatty waitress and her offer of a rug for our legs to stave off the cold conditions inside.

Have been here a few times before and service is usually good. Visited today (Fri 29th Dec) with my family and we had to go up and ask for our food order to be taken after waiting over half an hour after our drinks had been served. We then had to wait around an hour for the food to arrive to our table and no apology was given. Some of our order was incorrect and we had another long wait for dessert (mainly ice-cream!). Disappointed as the food was good but the service was appalling and yet they said they weren’t short staffed.

Nice setting, ample parking, internal layout pleasing and staff friendly and did their best with limited resources and a full restaurant, including Quiz night. Other that Pizza or Burger very limited main menu (not helped by 3 main dishes being unavailable). Service was very slow (clearly short staffed) we waited over one hour for our main dishes (3 x small Fish and Chips and 1 x Gammon). Very disappointed that service charge was added to the bill….(very American). This is the 4’th Akeman we’ve used each time becoming more disappointing. Presents itself as a high end establishment, but service / delivery does not match. Maybe they have become too big? Don’t think we’ll be visiting again or recommending.

Starters were delicious but main courses were disappointing. Mushy peas had been left out in open air for too long, and so they were very dry. Service wasn’t very good, food took ages to come with no apology or update. The manager was very apologetic however I’m not sure we would return any time soon.

Fantastic Food in a Really Nice Restaurant with Good Service.

5 of us booked for 2pm on 28th Dec. Left sitting at table with no attention for ages. Eventually placed our order for drinks and food. Cocktail costing £10.35 arrived partially spilled on the tray. I pointed this out but waitress just put the drinks down and left. Drinks are expensive - £4.80 for a coke/orange juice. Large wine 250 mls was £9.80. We waited a very long time for our food. Dinner finally arrived 1.5 hours after we arrived at the table. Chicken (pollo piquant) was actually burnt - loads of charring, but my protest that it was inedible was ignored, and my partner then ate it because he hates any fuss, and was very hungry by this time! I had Turkey escalope. Veg was a sloppy mushy mix. Roast potatoes were over cooked (edges black) and soggy. Pizza looked good (£15), and pasta looked boring and needed salad as side to complete. Waitress was very nice but service was extremely slow. We had to personally go to the bar twice to get more drinks. Plates/glasses were not cleared for ages. Desserts are expensive at £7.50/£7.75. I ordered choc brownie, but it came as a small unattractive mound looking nothing like a brownie. I asked to swop it for strudel (apple tart on menu has been replaced by strudel). That tasted nice but nothing special for the price. Waiter was pleasant, but that should be expected. Overall very disappointing food and experience. We will not be back.

Have just had our 3rd Xmas day lunch here and it was just fab. Have been various times during the year as well and it's never dissapointed us.

Food and service fantastic. Felt a little crowded, but it may have just felt that way as there were a couple of large parties. Overall, it was very enjoyable, and the service was some of the best.

Two years we went and had a great Christmas menu evening meal. What a difference two years makes. The 'Festive' menu has been put together based on portion costs and lacks any spirit of Christmas or joy. The Turkey Roulade was more like a turkey golf ball - small, hard and tasteless. The chain keeping costs down for Christmas have removed anything nice like parsnips, sprouts or carrots - replacing them with a Festive winter sludge which looked like a nativity donkey had thrown up over the plate. Some cold cabbage and a "table portion" of Red Cabbage / Veg that dried out under the hot lamp long before they reached our table. If you want Cranberry sauce after waiting until half way trough the meal a thimbleful portion arrives - clearly a national Cranberry sauce shortage.

The food is wonderful, grown on site or locally sourced. Prepped and cooked by experienced chefs. Served by friendly staff. Catered for an unusual food allergy.

Food is usually good but service is hit and miss, sometimes great other times non-existent. It’s local for us and we can take our dog so we’ve visited a few times. It wants to be a decent eatery but feels more like a pub with grub. Also don’t go if you want to use their EV chargers, they were switched off when we visited this week!

We've visited yesterday for a dinner. Arrived at 5.45pm and sat down straight away. Lovely restaurant with a really cosy and christmassy vibe. Unfortunately, our experience wasn't great. As we were directed to our table we've been told we need to be out by 7.45pm which is understandable in the busy times and we had no problem with that. The issues started when we've waited 25 minutes to order drinks (while the other tables were served even tho they came after us). Then our food was served but our drinks still not arrived. 10 mins into our meal FIRST cocktail arrived (that's around 50 mins into our dinner) unfortunately my holly jolly Xmas cocktail wasn't made as descriped and I've asked for a swap to a cider instead and asked what about the other cocktail?! Right, we got the SECOND cocktail while finishing off our main course. Advice for anyone visiting DONT ORDER COCTAILS! After main course we've been offered desserts menu and again waited for 30 minutes for anyone to take an interest to take the order. The food was good which is a shame that the service didn't match that experience. The restaurant kindly offered to take off one of the cocktails of the bill, which we really appreciate. Overall its a nice place, but at busy times Service let's the experience down.

We visited the Ackerman following our trip to Waddesdon Manor. The welcome was fast and efficient. The Roast Beef dinner was fantastic Service from our waitress Izzy was first class. Nothing was to much trouble for her and everything was done with a smile. Well done Team Akerman we will be back

Lovely lunch here on our way to Woodstock. Lots of parking, good location, nice menu. Good to see that fresh produce is used from the garden. Reasonable price of £17 for fish and chips and a drink. Would love to come back and sit at the open fire.

Fantastic home made food, attentive service and a home baked bread which was to die for. We were nearby the Akeman and as we passed by and saw how cute it looked we booked for dinner on Saturday at 5:00 pm. We were positively impressed by the food, quality and the taste. Top place and we’re coming back.

Visited on a Friday evening. Was able to sit outside at the back in warm weather. Was able to order after a short wait. Drinks arrived promptly after ordering them. We only ate a main course. All appeared to be reasonable. Pizza was large. My pork belly was very tasty. Bill was presented promptly after we had finished. Our waitress was attentive. Overall a good experience. We had visited with some trepidation as we had heard of reports of slow service. This was not the case. On another visit we had a very enjoyable evening with the village enjoying a great Quiz Night. The beer was good, both local brewed 'Vale Breweries' and craft ales on tap. Service was good despite the large number crowding into one area. Diners were able to sit and eat peacefully in another area.

Food was fantastic, I always noticed the pretty lights driving by and finally visited, was not disappointed. The atmosphere was fantastic, its cold this winter and it's lovely and warm with beautiful lights with such friendly staff. Amber was delightful and very friendly. Food was served fast and was delicious. Thank you again. Will definitely visit again.

We had a lovely meal yesterday evening. The food was great , especially the option to have a smaller sized fish and chips, which was the perfect size for myself and daughter. Marisa, who served us was amazing. So full of energy and smiles, and made us feel that nothing was too much. Her recommendation of the mango pavlova was the best, it was so delicious.

We were served by Henri and Marisa. Booth provide great service. Marisa though…blimey. She’s like if Carlsberg did waitresses. Bright friendly smile which never dimmed (despite working an incredibly busy section). Attentive but not overbearing. Brilliant suggestions (which I’m glad I took) and so efficient.

Good good, friendly staff, very welcoming. Reasonably priced. We live 6 miles away and this is our favourite restaurant; we pass three others to get here.

We spent a leisurely lunch at the Akeman a couple of days ago - our first visit there for several years, before they became part of Oakman Inns. The staff were friendly and efficient, especially Em who made the difference - from a good pub lunch (chosen for a huge and varied menu) to an exceptional one due to her friendly and attentive service. We shall definitely be back!
