Highly recommend visiting the Devon Arms when in Torquay. Fantastic homemade food with plenty of menu choice. We both opted for the pie of the moment and it was fantastic value for money, and very filling and delicious! Lovely accommodating staff and friendly locals. Very dog-friendly

Nice little place off the main road met some sound locals

Called in for some lunch after finding the sign saying Torquays best kept secret I had a sandwich while my wife had Brie wedges Beer, which was local, and Mrs. had a soft drink. The sandwich was massive, very impressive, and tasted great My Mrs lunch was great too Only wished we would have been able to go at night for the live music

Found this little gem in Torquay. The food was delicious and freshly cooked and was proper food. I had pie of the day, with mash and veg, and it was gorgeous. The others had burgers and chips and said it was the best that they had had all holiday. They were very friendly and made you feel welcome and were dog friendly. May have been our first time here, but it won't be our last.

Lovely fresh cooked food! Best meal we have had during our whole holiday. Reasonably priced and great service. Would definetly go back.

Can't rate the food as we didn't try it, but what a fantastic little pub this is! The staff and the locals are really friendly and welcoming and there is a great atmosphere. There's always something going on from live music to karaoke to a weekly jam session (which was amazing). Big TVs for live sport, a pool table, dart board and jukebox - couldn't ask for a better little pub on your holidays.

Had a drink and ploughman's lunch served by a very friendly lady, well worth money , very tasty , we couldn't eat all of it, very enjoyable visit

Cracking Saturday evening visit, live band getting everyone dancing only issue was tight for space but typical pub of the area. If you don't mind that pop in and give it a try.

Went there as a group what a afternoon

Enjoyed this pub on our pre-covid Torquay visits but not so now. It was ok, plain and the locals friendly but couldn't put a finger on it. Maybe it was too quiet when we visited this time.

I’ve been in several times on my own in the past for a nice pint of real ale at a very reasonable price and wasn’t disappointed this time so I suggested to my wife and grandkids that we eat there i had the steak and ale pie,chips and peas which was delicious my wife had sausage and chips which was huge and the kids had real chicken goujons and chips which they loved,it was very good value for money my only regret was not having the Sunday lunch which smelt delicious,a must try pub if you’re in the area.😋🍺👍

Absolutely superb pub grub, not fast but really good food.

Went on Wednesday evening for the Karaoke, very friendly bar and bar prices good £9 for a beer and a wine so happy with that compared to what we had been paying. My partner loved the karaoke too. I would certainly visit again if we were in the area.

Made very welcome, nice and clean, food which I had ( steak and ale pie with chips and peas) was excellent and the beer was well worth the visit.

W e just had Sunday dinner here. We chose the Beef. Lovely value for money. Friendly staff . We would recommend this place. 5 stars

Had the pleasure of stumbling upon this pub when down at the weekend to celebrate Wrexham AFC promotion to the league with other fans who couldn't get tickets to the game and had a brilliant time. The landlord and landlady put the match on TV and welcomed us all with a great warmth and kindness. Made us feel at home. Nothing was too much trouble and atmosphere in the pub was great. When we left we thanks both for their hospitality and It was so warming to not only shake hands but embrace in a heartfelt hug. Would 100 % recommend a visit and the food served looked amazing and people who ate where all happy. Good old fashioned pub which should be supported and preserved. Can't wait to return when we are next down Devon. Two happy Wrexham fans

Nice and cozy and inviting pub. Pool table and darts and a few tvs and great drinks with a fun selection of shots. Live entertainment some nights as well. Great food at great prices and the best bar staff in town.

Nice cosy pub and we were really enjoying ourselves on Saturday having a drink in there till about 30 loud obnoxious middle aged men came in different groups and spoilt the whole atmosphere banging into us and our table so we took our drinks outside and sat in the smoking shelter.

Interesting and friendly pub. Live music some nights and karaoke. A few tvs and a pool table and dart board. Nice drinks (can tell the lines are clean). Friendly people as well. Been a few times and it ranges from quiet and a few people in to pretty busy and a good evening/night Vibe and feels safe.

Had a brilliant night on Wednesday 21st September 2022 with Sabrina and her karaoke and the bar maid Becky was fantastic and so accommodating and friendly, couldnt do enough for all the customers! will be back again

came to The Devon arms and I won’t be returning, the staff are so unfriendly and hostile, none of us felt welcome! The toilets were unhygienic, couldn’t wait to move on to the next bar and enjoy rest of our night

Called in for a quick pint on sunday 3rd oct around 6.30ish. only 5 or 6 people in but they had a singer/guitarist on who was pretty good. " young ladies behind the bar and the one who served me (long brown hair) was polite and friendly. Tiny pub with male toilets straight out of the 1960s. Happily return.

Absolutely hurrendous service! The staff are not welcoming let alone have any basic manors! The place needs a complete revamp! I have experienced several establishments in my lifetime that are poor but this has to be by far the worst! The Devon arms!… more like the Devon dump!!

Probably the smelliest toilets ever. The staff were far from welcoming. This place could be made into a really nice pub with a little effort and better hygiene standards but why bother ! Why not ?

We were planning on going to the hole in the wall pub but were disappointed to find it was not open so we decided to go to the pub next door and we were pleasantly surprised to find this pub was open after such a long train journey to get here.The young lady serving the drinks was nice and friendly. The guy serving the food was friendly too and even accommodated my Brother's love of tomato sauce, he delivered several packets to the table and supplied scissors, when my Mum said she always wrestled with the packets. The food arrived looking well presented and all piping hot. The homemade fish pie was delicious!Glad we discovered this family friendly pub and we walked away feeling comfortably full. Would definitely recommend this place to others.

One of the best pubs in Torquay. Great people, great fun, and people of all ages so everyone can have a good time. Staff are amazing drinks are perfect with a good selection. Food is always great and live music fri, sat and Sundays. As with covid stuff always best check for bookings.

We found this little gem by the off chance walked up the hill with a open mind on what to expect. We went here in a group of 7 people with 2 dogs and were welcomed and accommodated. The pub is just off the main street and is a good old fashioned pub, with many a friendly local. There is a pool table and background music. The food was excellently priced and delicious. The salad garnish was fresh and colourful.

Found this pub after looking everywhere for some decent food that was not fish and chips. The service was best in devon the food amazing quality. There were 7 of us but they accommodated us no problem will deffo recommend this place to anyone. Recommend the pies or the curry.

Kept the whole street and all the residents away playing horrendously loud music all night. Ruined everyone’s holiday in the buildings nearby, I feel so sorry for all the residents nearby, it must be like a living nightmare. People stood outside screaming and shouting all night long.

Went in about a month ago. Girl with dyed hair serving drinks at table was rude. I am a local and will not go in again.

Lovely little pub, watched the Wales Euro match here. Good atmosphere but couldnt revisit as no room at the inn on our return lol.

Honestly the best and most friendly pub in the bay. Staff are awesome. It's just a good time if its quiet or if its busy.

This is a lovely small old style pub. Up a side street right near harbour. Pool table and basket meals available throughout day. Meals not served after 6 at time we were there. The owner so lovely he recommended a few other places for us to book for an evening meal. We went back next day for lunch. Big portions and good quality food. Basket meals 2 for £12. Not a huge menu things like faggots and mash. Huge burger and baguettes and chips and selection of pies etc. All freshly cooked and very tasty. Made us feel so welcome. Clean toilets and just a great place. Bt sports as well. Sort of pub I'd like to just sit all afternoon and get pickled hahaha.

Booked at last minute, they stopped serving food about 6pm so we went in just before. It was a lovely traditional pub which was dog friendly. Staff were very attentive and friendly. The menu was basic but very reasonably priced. The food itself was not exactly high quality but it reflected the price and it was all eaten. I would recommend for a visit if in the area.

What a find. A pub that is a pub. The two ladies behind the bar Courtney and Leah excel in customer service. All regulations in these strange times are adhered to in the most polite way not military like in other places. A truly welcoming place. Totally clean. Fabulous venue for live music as well. Pity it was our last night in Torquay. Best pink gin around.

We have been to Torquay many times and never called in at the Devon Arms what a mistake, It was loverly and friendly and most welcoming with a great choice of beer, a really good drink.Very good Covid awarenesses in place, it was a REALLY nice visit, we will definitely return.......Thank you

Visited today for drinks and the bar tender was very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Even though he was serving on his own, he acknowledged everyone that came in and showed them to a table while serving other customers which was pretty impressive. Would highly recommend and when in torquay again will visit again.

It doesn't look much from the outside, and when the live music is on I wouldn't stay long, but we went for the beer and it did not disappoint. Had two good early evening sessions in there.

UnwelcomingI arrived by the door just now and the bouncer, an elder miserable man, asked me if I was on my own. When I confirmed, he rolled his eyes and looked absolutely in shock, as if it wasn’t acceptable for a young woman to be travelling on her own. I felt so awkward about it I said “never mind” and left. I’m now at another pub and mentioned my story, they were absolutely in shock. Treat your customer with respect, and remember we’re in 2020! I’ve never left a review here before but I thought that deserved one.

Me and my wife went here couple of times for drinks,the two ladies serving so pleasant and helpful,if I lived this would be my local.

I have the pleasure of visiting the Devon Arms On a few occasions It’s just up from the historical town clock adjacent to the centre of the Strand & Harbourside Whereby u walk up a cool cobbled street This pub has got the YE OLDE snug friendly factor With lots of live music & plenty of character Well worth a visit 5 STARS(even from a Boro supporter)

We visited 3 times in a week as the food is highly recommended, a singing duo The Argentz were great.

It's a great pub with a little bit for everyone of all ages. Weather you want a nice family lunch or dinner it's always great food. There is a pool table and Juke box if you want more entertainment other than the music already playing. The locals are really friendly and all you have to do is ask or spark up a conversation and you will learn all about the town and what's good to do on holiday. Everynight is different some quiet some busy but so fun. Live music most nights throughout the summer and winter. Weather you want a nice meal or a pint you really can't go wrong with the Devon Arms.

I hadn't intended to go here but the reviews on Tripadvisor didn't look too shabby so decided to give it a go. Its pretty much a standard seaside pub with a pool table, plasma screen and seafaring decor. The staff were friendly and efficient and the food was really well cooked. I had the Seafood platter which came with four dips for GBP 7.25 which was great value topped up with a couple of pints of Thatchers Haze cider.

We enjoyed the atmosphere here and particularly enjoyed the Thatchers Haze cider. My partner had a tuna jacket potato and I enjoyed home made chilli con carne and rice. Both dishes were tasty and good value.

After visiting the hole in the wall this pub was disappointing. I think the bar man had got out of bed the wrong side to start with. Not very pleasant or chatty. He didn't seemed to be bothered to be honest..

The Devon Arms is a great pub. Really good food can't go wrong. It is a really good locals pub but if you are on holiday or visiting all are so friendly be happy to talk. There is always something different going on. Pool table as well. Comfy seats. Also some awesome drink specials.

Another great afternoon at the Devon Arms.A group of visitors from a visiting cruise ship came and enjoyed an afternoon of fantastic music from stevo.plus a scrummy lunch.

Granted it looks a bit less inviting than its neighbour from the outside, but once inside the welcome is just as warm, the beer top notch and less expensive. There's a great little display of war memorabilia & local history, plus a pool table and local league. Well worth the visit.

Came here as a family with the sole intention of eating. We were told if we ordered immediately, we could eat and only certain items from the menu were available. It wasn't the fact that eating times are specific it was the way we were told and how we were made to feel, as if we were intruding and made to feel very awkward. Naturally we declined their kind offer and took our custom elsewhere, where we had a wonderful evening eating and drinking the night away.

This pub looks great from the outside but was disappointing once we entered. We felt we were intruding on a locals bar and interrupting their games of pool and were basically ignored. We were enjoying watching the music channel that was playing on the TV when we entered until someone decided to turn the sound off without asking if we minded - at that point we decided our custom was not wanted and we would not be returning there and left.

We live down in Cornwall and had a stop off on our way home after seeing family and the food was delicious , chef really nice will definitely come back next time thank you all

Love it here, we often go for sunday lunch but it's great for all!!! Would recommend for all, my son loves the burgers too.

If you are looking for somewhere to have a Christmas get together or office get together I highly recommend the Devon Arms. Live music most nights of the week and always a good time. The food is AMAZING as well as the best pints in the bay. Fancy a bit of history? Check out the occult corner or history wall. There is a little something for everyone and you are sure to have a good time.

On our second evening in Torquay, we dined here, after eating on our first night , next door at the "Hole in the Wall". There is an ongoing dispute between these pubs, as to which is the older, but this place has more than an interesting history of its own, to stand muster against all comers. On entering the Devon Arms, you are in a very busy room, and as we wanted to eat, we chose what we thought was a quiet corner, later to find we were sitting in Henry's place, the resident ghost. After ordering what turned out to be some very good and inexpensive pub grub, we were approached by Eddie, the landlord, who wanted to illuminate the somewhat dark corner we had chosen to sit in. He also wanted to frighten the life out of my sisters who were with me, both of whom happily signed up to Eddie's stories of the occult, his historical searches, as well as the story about Henry. The girls sensed a certain" presence" and there was much shuffling of bums around until I was sitting in Henry's seat.Notwithstanding, Eddie piled on the grief by indicating that there was a chamber, which ran the whole length of the bar,and walled up directly behind it, adjacent to the ladies lavatory (powder-room). Of course, my youngest sister had to go and explore, and on her return stated unquivocally that there was a coldness in there! Thankfully our meals arrived, and there was a merciful quiet whilst we tucked in to the very good pub grub. On enquiring if we were enjoying our food, Eddie then confirmed that amongst the military memorabilia he had displayed on the walls, there were a number of choice items, including two WW1 Lee Enfield rifles, including one used by a sniper. He also said that amongst the many famous visitors to the pub were several hundreds of American soldiers who were later to disembark on Utah Beach during the Normandy landings of June 1944. This welcoming pub, full of good cheer, great ales including the Prince of Ales, "Jail Ale", and tasty, good value food, is a must-do when you are next in Torquay, and as for the oldest...you must decide for yourself...and as for Henry,punching me on my bottom as I left!
