Cheapest in the area for a reason. Plaice was watery and tasteless, batter was thin and oily. Tasted like over used oil, perhaps because it was the end of the day. Chips were nice. Took visitors who were very disappointed as they were expecting Brixham fresh fish. Sorry owner but this was our experience.

The food is always excellent, very inexpensive for the portion size. The counter staff work really hard to provide exceptional customer service. We make a trip to Chandler's everytime we visit Torquay.

Good price and GREAT FOOD, have been before and will definitely go again.

As all restaurants at the seafront seemed to be full, we went for the chipper, and we were not disappointed. Both fish and chips were well cooked, but I still don't like mushy peas. My husband said they wereOK. We got a big cup of strong black tea with the meal. The place was clean.

Visiting Torbay regularly I have always taken great delight on one day of visiting Chandlers for a "haddock buttie" as they have been one of the few to do haddock in the area as opposed to cod.

Thought we would have a fish supper for our tea, as recommended by the guy that drives the land train, It is all cooked fresh and was hot and plentiful, what let it down for me was the place did not look clean, there was food all over the floor and the tiles where greasy, I asked for a lemon wedge with mine, they did not have any,

Clean modern chippy that cooks in oil which is my preference over dripping. tell you where the fish is from, and also the variety of potato. Used it twice and both times fresh and tasty. Best on the harbour and near plenty of benches

Best chips around! Great value too. Never waited too long either. And only a stones throw from the lovely harbour.

Can't believe what happened here I was served fish and chips in a takeaway box the server put vinegar all over them, I told her I didn't want vinegar on my food and requested fresh food she then put all the chips that were served to me back in the chip fat ..... What can you say if that's going on in front of you so not right no apology just a very put out person!!!! Is this legal with all the h& s regulations that are now enforced on us I ask myself?

Been here before in past years. With the new owners the quality of the food and the decor and cleanliness of this fish and chip shop has greatly improved. Will be back again next year.

Not for the first time have we eaten chips from here sat on the harbourside....simply put excellent quality...fair price ...good service..you would be hard pressed to do better.

Great chip shop when we are in the town our children love a cone of chips and to sit by the harbour. Can knock it as the prices are very reasonable and the chips are nice not had anything else of the menu

Has changed ownership since our last visit, last year. The cod special was very nice, cooked to order, so nice and hot. Think a little more organisation is needed though, would have like my cup of tea while waiting and not served at the same time as the meal, also, perhaps the cutlery and bread and butter, beforehand aswell. It was very busy and the staff were working very hard. A good sign!

Probably the cheapest fish & chip restaurant, and the food was quite nice, but the staff were poor, serving peas and curry sauce at least 5 minutes before the food arrived.....these were then changed for hot peas and curry sauce! Also staff were confused as to how many teas we wanted, and then the meals arrived several minutes apart!! Don't seem to know how to get their act together!!

Strange way of pricing food. Asked for what I wanted to then be asked for a couple of quid more than I, thought it would be because of the odd meal deal. Queried it with the lad on till who you pay when ordering before collecting. Given a new price, still not right. Eventually sorted. Then find my change consists of coins from Cameroon. Same shape as UK coins but not legal tender. On third request to change coins the lad on the till seemed to understand that I, would like sterling not any other currency. The food was quite good, but the experience of pricing and ordering has put me off a return.

Very disappointing after travelling for fish and chips.Fish was good but the chips looked and tasted like old reheated chips - fit for the bin really awful and a complete waste of time and money.Definately finding another fish & chip shop and definately won't be revisiting!

Be prepared to wait to be even served and then wait to receive your order, while we waited for our order there were several people waiting to be served while the three staff stood ignoring them. Food was good portions average but check prices as main menu when priced against offers could be cheaper.

we enjoyed our take away fish & chips. we had to wait quite a while for the fish to cook and there was a queue, despite staff working hard it was very busy. Fairly priced with tasty hot food. The woman serving was cheerful and helpful, there was a miserable bloke working there who quite rudely "told me to move over" but then he was a very fat man who shouldn't be trying to push his way through customers! Ide keep him out the back peeling spuds!

We have had chips from this place on previous visits to Torquay, and they have been very good. We visited one lunch time last week and found the shop had been refitted and looked very impressive. However, we were not impressed with the chips. The shop was quiet and the chips looked as if they had been reheated, as they were dark and overcooked. We should have taken them back. Disappointed.

The fish was soggy and pretty inedible, chips are ok but wouldn't eat here again. Couldn't really take it back either as I had taken it home and to take it back would have been a nuisance so just threw it away. Waste of money. Shame as this place years ago use to be very good.

Friendly service. We had take away fish and chips and it was freshly cooked and hot. We had to wait a few minutes while it was cooked but this was no problem, especially as we were invited to take a seat while we waited. They do an option of a small or larger portion fish and chips - a great idea as not all people will want the larger version. They have a wide selection of food on offer, and inside seating.

I tipped up here at 6pm on a rainy December night with 6 old age pensioners and our driver. Lots of dementia, a wheelchair and zimmers and not a little confusion and deafness amongst our party. We were welcomed in and they stayed late for us, offering hot drinks on the house and an extra cup of tea for the road when one old lady declared it was all she wanted! The chips were delicious, the batter so thin and crisp and the fish fresh and firm. Great selection of soft drinks and pickles and the hot drinks were great - piping hot. WIshing the lovely owner all the best for the refurbishment she is planning next year. Just don't refurbish the fish and chips - already great! Brilliant location too, overlooking the harbour.

once again another gorgeous portion of chip cheese and gravy, served straiight away,..one minute wait for order(well they gotta put meal together! lol) and once again meal came and was served HOT FRESH chips. this is deffo the best in the bay. and ive tried most of them, and Chandlers remains to be the cheapest tastiest chippy ive known, and best portion sizes too and all the staff are really friendly and very helpfull. well done to you all.

As the title says the best fish and chips in Torquay by far !!! this is the chippy at the end of the harbour near the bridge near the Living coast.

If I hadn't already paid I would never of waited. No queue and about 14 diners and 3 staff. Stood for 10minutes before even being acknowledged, then 5minutes later about to go somewhere else we were served paid for 2 small chips expected them there and then but noooo we waited about another 10minutes for them then they were cold. A sign to state under new management, mmmm Buck up now I say.

Been before and had nice food, called yesterday to get some take away was told the had just put son fresh chips in to cook so would be a few minutes which was fine. Ordered 3 large portions of chips which were presented in open polystyrene trays no way the could be called large! OK so this is a harbour side chip shop so you expect a premium price. But not the terrible quality of the chips they were covered in oil to the point they were almost slimy and were also undercooked kids ate about a dozen chips each rest went in the bin. One last comment is I asked them to wrap them but the young man that served me clearly did not have a clue. Probably the worst chips I've had in Torquay. Had better there before but sign says new owners don't know if that's true or they just had people on who don't know how to cook but at £2.30 a potion you expect much better, my advice is avoid.

If you're taking in the sights of Torquay Harbour and start to feel hungry, treat yourself to some delicious fresh Fish and Chips at "Chandlers Chippy." The shop is basic, as people say, but spotlessly clean and tidy with an old style ambiance and the staff are friendly. While enjoying the harbour views from our table, we savoured a generous plateful of lightly battered Cod with yummo Chips, mushy peas, bread and butter and a large icy drink for just 5 Pounds and it was excellent,.....pity I live in Brisbane.

The Chandlers Chippy was recommended to us by the Land Train driver and it didn't disappoint. We ate on the premises which were basic but spotless. The meals were piping hot, thick, flaky cod with not too much batter served with perfect chips and mushy peas. The mug of tea was excellent also. We were told that the proprietors have only been there 3 months and they deserve to succeed. The only bad point is that we live over 100 miles away.

Looking for a place to have a light lunch while strolling Torquay harbour area last week, and popped into Chandlers. Very basic place with simple decor but very clean. Staff friendly. We had the oap special for £5 - fish, chips, very nice mushy peas, bread and butter, and large mug of tea. We didn't have to wait very long, maybe because we were the only people in there at the time. We really enjoyed the meal, fish and chips both very tasty. Would certainly visit again.

Cooked to order so a little wait, but well worth it. Thin crispy batter on a chunk of cod was deliciousWould visit again and again if staying longer.

I have had about 12-14 visits, sometimes twice in a day when I go to Torquay. At the start we were going to go into Harvester, but changed our mind and haven't looked back. The chips are fresh, one of the very best I've had. I cannot complain about one thing, just pure and simple good food.

Ordered 2 large chips to take away... Don't know if you only get good service from inside but chips are absolutely tiny! Wouldn't feed a child most people order two large for small families as a couple we're greedy haha but that was so not enough! Every chip was crispy and not in a good way I love Barton chippy crispy chips but these were hard!!! (annoying we only tried this place because Barton was queued out the door... Lovely of the lady to offer to wrap!! Just give us a tray don't worry if we want the chips wrapped or anything and when we say excuse me (about to ask if she could wrap) just turn your back and walk away... Sorry won't be back Greasy, hard lack of chips! Nough said... People I would advise Hanburys or pauls plaice dependant on taste preferences They are real chippys...not scraps that should go with a kebab when your too drunk to notice.... 0 stars chandlers I adored you as a teenager your a disgrace to the previous owners name!

Visited Torquay last weekend, fancied traditional "fish & chip" supper in paper - so glad we chose Chandlers Chippy from the selection of places along the Parade! Best cod & chips we've had in ages! We had take away - served by very polite young man, had to wait for fish & chips to be freshly cooked (a plus in our book when asked to wait, as can't stand re-heated fish & chips like so many places do!). I didn't think I was that hungry, but everything was so nice I ate the whole portion! Nothing left at all for the seagulls sitting patiently by us as we sat on the wall opposite eating our supper and watching a fantastic sunset! Perfect fish, batter, & chips (not frozen either!) and all piping hot! 10 out of 10 from us, and we'll definitely have your fish & chips again next time we visit Torquay! Well done & thanks.

We visit Torquay frequently and I for one am glad this chippy has recently changed hands for the better. The quality of the fish & chips is now 5*.

always go to chandlers for my chips cheese and gravy. always fresh and real chips. a taste to die for. would never eat anywhere else. great food great prices great staff. eat in or take away. big menu choice. open every day all day so i eat anytime i fancy it. would highly recomend to anyone. what more can i say brill.

Spent a lovely albeit very wet day in Torquay which made us call into this wonderful chippy. Fish was gorgeous and the chips(fresh not frozen) the best. Staff very friendly and welcoming.

Had a lovely fish and chip from chandlers on Wednesday.staff welcoming and efficient.never seen such a big fish finger that my son had.lol.we will definitely re visit when next in Torquay

We didn't really want too much for lunch, so decided to get ourselves some chips. These were absolutely wonderful. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside! Really nice! And the price was excellent. Around the same as we pay in Yorkshire!

Went for fish and chips on recommendation of our friends and we were certainly not disappointed. Fish was arguably the best I've ever tasted. Staff behind the counter where pleasant and cheerful too which is always a nice bonus. Defiantly a must visit.

This place was recommended by the manager of the gift shop next door. Batter was crisp and the cod was so tender and fresh. Also, the prices are reasonable.The only qualm is we ordered a battered sausage to share and all we got was a very small battered sausage. The staff were friendly and the portions plentiful.

The cod from here is just delicious.. and love the new friendly staff! will be revisiting next year. Looking forward to it.

Really tasty and always cooked to order. We come here whenever we visit Torquay. The fish is really nice with crispy batter. Kids said the sausages were nice.

After a fun day myself n four kids fancied some chips we decided to go chandlers as nearest. The four small £1.50 chips were overflowing and deliciously hot, service with a smile happy kids happy mum.

We been coming here for the laat 3 years we tried other chippys around the harbour but always find ourself back here, big portions, tasty hot food, polite staff, lovely view what more can you ask for, cod special is great value to.

Disappointing. After years of meals with the former owners, which were lovely, hence returning time and time again, was disappointed with the meal today. Fish over cooked, mushy peas weren't mushy just prosessed and they can't make a strong tea with a little milk.

Simple food done well, and a great night out the back bar has things I haven't heard off as well as things I have already fell in love with, This place doesn't just follow trends but starts them refreshing to have some where this influential this far south.

Been coming to Torquay for the last 7 years and always go to Chandlers for the 'Cod Special Meal'. Visited Sunday 5th July and was very disappointed with the Fish, it was mainly batter, the fish was so dry, it actually needed chewing! We were given half a buttered bap each because they had run out of bread. It just wasn't the same.

A random bloke caught us looking at this place for some tea. He told us to go in they are the best in Torquay. He was certainly right. Perfect chips and perfect fish. Lovely staff. Prices are great. Honestly worth driving back down there just for another meal.

Very good and fresh chips, which are generous when served in a chip butty. The curry sauce is closer to indian curry than traditional chip shop curry sauce.

I think there has been a change of ownership. Very poor fish quality and chips.fish had a tang taste. Sold as cod but dubious. Chips were over cooked. We will NOT return!

I live in torquay and everytime we go to the harbour we always go to Chandlers. They are definately the best fish and chips on the harbour. We have tried them all. Some of the others have signs outside "Award Winning fish and chips", we have tried them and i would not even give them to my dog! Chandlers every time.

We visited with friends for lunch, we ate in. We ordered a range of fish and chips and children's meals. All were served quickly and were great. There was absolutely no grease on the plate, the fish was tasty, the chicken nuggets were good and the curry was popular too. We would definitely return to this pleasant, reasonably priced chippy which has a great view of the harbour.

Billed as the best chippy in town.....me thinks not!! The battered cod was tasteless and dripping in fat. The fish and chips were hot but there was not lots there..... The kids cod and chips contained more batter than fish ! Please note that the food hygiene rating is 3, this was highlighted as my wife found a rouge hair in her battered cod!!! We will not be re visiting.

Tasty beefburger, grated cheese (not a processed slice) in a lovely soft bun. One of the best cheeseburgers we've had and excellent value for money too!

The sign said best fish and chips in town; I did not try any of the other fish and chip ships but it could not possibly be the best. We waited about 10 minutes for our order that consisted of one proportion of fish and chips and then the portion turned out really small and tasteless. I don't often throw away food but I could not stomach the batter.

Popped in for lunchtime seaside fish and chips. The place was very busy so no seating. An excessive wait for food to take away. Nothing wrong with portion size. Chips were good but the battered cod was tasteless amd over powered by extremely thick and soggy batter. The while experience was a disappointing let down. Ive certainly had far better fried and nattered fish from other establishments. I would neither recommend nor return. Reasonable prices, unreasonable food quality and waiting time.

Fish and chips were delicious. Curry sauce was the best I've had. I highly recommend and will be visiting again next time I'm in Torquay.

Great chippy we only ordered chips fantastic they were right on the harbour okay service if that was improved the would of been 5*the fish did look good but we was on a budget at the time so didn't take

Our children were hungry so rather than go to a restaurant to wait we decided to get take away fish and chips. It was chaos. there was a queue for the take away which can be expected during the holidays and there were a few people in the restaurant. It took 35 mins after ordering to get our food. As far as I could see there were two members of staff one serving both the take away and restaurant and another member of staff cooking. Other people were getting annoyed and one woman wanted her money back. They also couldn't offer us a carrier bag for the meals so we couldn't go over to the pavilion as planned as we had a toddler, a bike and a pushchair with us with one spare hand to carry food.Despite the service the food was great and reasonably priced. I think had there been more staff it would have been a nice experience, instead it was very stressful.

my wife and I were on a visit to Torquay, Devon a few days ago and visited Chandlers Chippy on the harbour, what great value,they offered " A Pensioners Special" lunch/dinner comprising of:Cod, Chips, mushy peas, bread, tea or coffee for £5 per head, the staff were so friendly and helpful, the food was first class, we will return to Chandlers Chippy any time were in Torquay, can't see any restaurant providing all that for £5. a must place to visit !

The fish and chips are cooked while you wait, the fish is caught that day so it's nice and fresh and both chips and fish are very hot, the staff are very friendly and obliging, and the cost is very reasonable, it's the best fish and chip shop in Torquay

Worth waiting for. Don't bother with any of the others even though you'll get your food faster. The best fish and chips you'll have.

What can I say. We were peckish, we fancied some chips and these were real chips not frozen, this is a proper chippy. Yum yum.

Ordered two quarter pound beef burgers with cheese.Informed by the disinterested woman who took my order it would be 5 to 10 minutes.30 minutes later it was finally served up !! .... dry barm cake which contained an even drier burger with a grating of tasteless cheese which would struggle to tempt a mouse onto a trap.Possibly the worse burger we have ever eaten and £4.80 wasted.

It was a beautiful evening in Torquay, I went to Chandlers about 18.45. ...I walked across the road and sat by the inner harbour to eat.my supper. I really enjoyed them! The service was ever so friendly, I can't see how anyone can beat this chippy!!! They told me the only day they close was on Christmas Day ... they also made a point of saying the potatoes used were fresh and not frozen. It was a lovely way to spend early evening...

Love this place. Food lovely. Great well sized portions. Food always served hot.Only down side is Chandlers don't put up any opening times and we've been let down a lot making the trip there to find they're closed.

Went here for tea with the family the first night of our holiday a large chips is 2.30 which is about normal price but they were not the best chips I have had they were slightly undercooked in places and to greasy for my liking.the staff seemed pleasant enough If there is no where else to eat then it's not to bad but it wouldn't be my first choice

Having been trying to eat a bit more healthier foods through the Summer but really fancied some chips and curry sauce on a recent day trip! Not usually a big fan of chips but these were superb! So good, my husband and I went back for a second portion and a battered sausage! Lovely. Proper grub!

Picked this chippie as it looked nice and clean and they use potatoes not frozen chips.Staff very friendly and helpful ordered our meal sat inside to eat didn't wait too long either as they cook to order ok not the biggest portions but what we had melted in your mouth all knives forks plates were spotless as were the tables

What a decent chippy. Emphasis is on the superb quality of the fish and chips rather than the basic yet very clean decor. The fish and chips were fresh, tasty and perfectly cooked and the portions very generous. A great place for high quality food on the harbour. Visiting is essential.

Well I've read the reviews on here. I live in Torquay and often will go to chandlers for fish and chips, you must have curry sauce to. It's always well cooked and definitely not greasy. I can only think that the poor reviews are from premises who supply fish and chips but not to the standard of the food here. It's all cooked fresh.

Nice old fashioned type fish and chip restaurant with a good view of the harbour. Generous portions, large menu, clean and good value for money. Couldn't really ask for anything more.

We were visiting the Living Coasts attraction just around the corner and thought we'd try a local chippy, not disappointed at all, some of the best chips we've ever had.
