We were at Andi Oliver’s book launch about her traditional cooking , there were 165 covers all being served at more or less the same time and you could tell as everything was overcooked or dried out , there was also a “service” charge added to our bottle of wine, the girl didn’t know how to do it without……they didn’t pour the wine so no actual “service” we were lucky enough to have a banquet seat but others were perched on barstools on small high tables !

This place looks like nothing from the outside, but step inside and wow! It’s lovely. We went for dinner and took our dog with us. Fortunately they allow dogs in the bar area. There were about 4 tables and we were seated furthest from the bar (see photo) On arrival, we helped ourselves to a couple of dog treats whilst we stood at the bar. They very kindly brought us a mat for our dog to lay on by the table and a bowl of water. Service was good but a little on the slow side. Staff were very friendly though. We both had the mushrooms to start which were lovely and then we had the fillet steak. Mine had a little too many fatty areas for my liking but it was well cooked and the chips were lush. We both finished the meal with the plate of chocolate. Chocolate lovers will enjoy this very much!

It was so horrendous it became funny before we got up and left. Service was terrible, drinks were meant to be bottomless, we waited 45 minutes before we got what they call a martini. It was bright pink, very sugary and undrinkable. No one had more than a sip. We were palmed off with a white wine which was like water. The Abba act was only two women, thought Abba was a foursome. The dark haired lady could not have been less interested always behind in the dancing and clearly miming when she could be bothered to even more her lips. Total shambles I thought I had been transported back to a Butlins camp in the 70’s without the fun. Shocking so we left.

Couple in 50's - touring Cotswolds. Pre-booked this restaurant for a Monday evening...a little worried it would be too quiet and without atmosphere... But the Daffodil does what it says it does...excellent food, service and environment is beautiful. Over half full and lovely atmosphere. It was our 25th Wedding Anniversary and the handsome young man looking after us made us feel very welcome and special - thank you. It should also be about the food - starters of scallops, cheese soufflé, mains of monkish and beef medallions - puddings high quality. Our view is that the staff, including the kitchen team obviously, provided a 100% satisfying experience - we had a great time and I wish the Daffodil team the best for the future. Thank you for looking after us so well - great experience and great memories.

Decided to head to Cheltenham for a meal before lockdown is imposed and picked The Daffodil as we’d heard good things about it. We were not disappointed. The building is impressive and we were greeted by friendly staff right from the door. We were shown to our lovely booth table straight away and the service was attentive. I had the pumpkin and chilli soup to start which was really tasty and my partner had the Pork and black pudding sausage roll. We both really enjoyed the starters. For main we ordered chateaubriand to share with chips, new potatoes, green beans and peppercorn sauce. The steak was cooked to perfection and really tasty. All the sides wereAlso cooked perfectly and we ate the lot. We’d definitely go back. Drinks wise we had house champagne and Shiraz. Both were lovely

Had dinner here on a long weekend in Cheltenham. We were initially slightly disappointed as we were expecting the place to look more “wow” based on reviews about the Art Deco look - but as the place started to get more full a good buzz got going, food was tasty and service was great. I had the cheese soufflé followed by chateaubriand - delicious. A great choice.

You've probably gathered already that the Daffodil is a spectacular venue in the heart of the Suffolks in Cheltenham. The restaurant is located in an old Art Deco cinema and the decor is totally in keeping with that: the kitchen is located on the stage, there are 2 sweeping stair cases down each side, a balcony, complete with old fashioned cinema cameras and of course a large auditorium. It's been a tough few months for the hospitality industry and the Daffodil has extended its opening hours to include Mondays. We were delighted to see they are still running their excellent Sunday lunchtime offer, which is a 2-course meal plus bottomless Prosecco, red or white wine, for £32.95. Given that a 2-course meal would cost around £27, it seemed like a no-brainer!We had the delightful Olivia serving our table, who ensured that our glasses were kept replenished at all times! The food was, as always, excellent. My mackerel pate, followed by roast chicken supreme were gorgeous, and we still had space for the "one of everything" desert option. It would be rude not to!The place was packed which is lovely to see in these difficult times. Looks like we were not the only ones to spot a fab Sunday lunch venue!

We ate here on Saturday night, with the plan of it being an end-of-week treat, and that it certainly was. From the moment we were greeted at the front desk by a lovely welcoming lady we knew that although it had been a while since our last visit, The Daffodil certainly hasn't lost any of its charm. We've eaten here many times but we're still always blown away by how beautiful it is in there. As ever the food was delicious, the cocktails fabulous and the wine very reasonably priced. Round that all off with a thoroughly lovely lady looking after our table who was genuinely friendly, and very good fun and you have the recipe for a perfect evening.

Went for dinner on Saturday night - whole evening was a bit of a shambles. My salmon came out raw in the middle and had a bit of a funny smell to it, so I sent it back for further cooking but still wasn’t happy with it when it came back (and I eat salmon out regularly). They eventually swapped the salmon for another dish for me, but I was still charged for the more expensive meal (the salmon) on the bill. My other half ordered green beans with his steak and chips - instead, broccoli came out and three lots of chips we hadn’t asked for. When asked about the green beans, they simply said they’d run out of them. Dessert was ok, but the ice cream wasn’t very nice. And drinks took ages to come, so we had to ask where they were a couple of times. Considering this is meant to be a high end establishment in Cheltenham, it was a complete disappointment and we wouldn’t recommend unless you just want to have a cocktail in nice surroundings.

Drinks came quite quickly, all the starters came out bar mine as it had been left off the order, they had offered me a free glass of prosecco which was okay. Once we had finished our starters we waited nearly an hour for our mains. The steak I had was ok was amazing for the price of the steak. The service was appalling, they had used the excuse of Covid 19 means they have less staff but they easily don't have to take the bookings. For a £40 meal with drinks and discount fo eat out to help out, I wont be going back

Very disappointing experience. Visiting the Cheltenham area for a couple of nights away, I looked at plenty of restaurants in the area for a decent place for a date night (28th/08/20) and chose this one but wish I had not now! This is the first time me and my partner have eaten in the Daffodil and unfortunately it will be the last. My partner asked for her steak to be cooked "Medium Rare" and it was cooked "Medium Well". When the waiter asked if our food was alright we said to him about it but no offer of changing the steak or apology. When you are paying 30+ for a steak fillet you expect the steak to be spot on and the service to be alot better! Specially when they advertise "The Jospher Charcoal Grill" as there selling point. The waiter didnt care and gave the impression that he didnt want to be there. For a restaurant that presents itself so well and with high prices you would expect alot more. Did not stay for dessert and no offer of anything off the bill. Service very poor, bad value for money and overall was very disappointed! The only good thing took take from the experience was my paprika pork was actually very nice.

Meeting up with old colleagues to catch up over some amazing food and drink. The welcome was warm and felt quite personal which was really nice and we were offered the chance to go to the bar first upstairs or straight to our table. The bar is a great location with booths or tables to sit at and there is always good music played at an appropriate level in the background to create just enough of an ambience without drawing out the conversations. When we got to the table we all opted for different steaks and we were all really happy with how they all turned out. The steak were really well prepared and clearly were quality cuts of meat. The waiting staff were attentive and helpful without constantly interrupting us which was really well judged. This is not the cheapest of places to eat but for me it is easily the best in Cheltenham!

The food was fantastic, far better than any other aspect of the restaurant. The service was lacking. There was nobody to greet us on the front door, nobody to take out coats, we waited a few minutes and decided to walk upstairs to the bar.The bar tables were messy, and the areas around the big "camera" feature was messy when we sat down near it. All the bar tables are old and have visible chips on them. The cocktails are brilliant - they match the food in terms of quality. However service in the bar area is slow. There were only two drinks menus at the bar, nobody came to us to take our order so I had to walk to the bar, take a soggy menu to our table and ask someone to come and take our order. The ambiance improved when the lights were dimmed, but in my opinion they needed to be dimmed further and permanently - the darker the venue the fewer flaws would be noticeable particularly where the old furniture is concerned. The bright lights make such a vast venue seem like a cheap food hall. The place needs renovation without doubt.Daffodil seems like it should be a classy venue but it misses the mark and isn't a spot on The Ivy. There are things written on the menu advertising specials for dining on certain nights - when spending £400 at a restaurant for 4 people you don't expect to see Harvester style promotions on the menu, where is the class in that?Overall despite the food and drinks being fantastic I wouldn't plan to visit the Daffodil again, at least not until it has had an overhaul.

I was very disappointed with my experience at the Daffodil. It’s no longer the classy, elegant restaurant, offering fine dining like it used to be a few years ago. Overall, I found the range of vegan choices to be poor, the staff were not attentive, they were poorly trained and generally lacked knowledge regarding the menu offerings. As a vegan I noted that there were no vegan starters listed on the menu (which in itself is poor) so I asked the waitress what may be available. The waitress was clueless, didn’t appear to understand what a vegan was and her manner demonstrated she was completely disinterested. She went to ask the kitchen and returned to say that the only option was to remove the blue cheese from one of the starters on the menu. I went for this as it was the only option but I found it to be tasteless, lacked flavour and expensive (£8 for a few slithers of celeriac, pear and a few walnuts with no dressing). The chefs had clearly made no effort and didn’t care about catering for their vegan guests. On a positive note, I found the vegan main course (sweet potato curry) to be tasty, however there were no vegan options for desert. In addition, I couldn’t even have a cappuccino after the meal as the waitress told me they do not stock any dairy free milk! I find this unbelievable in this day and age. Again, the waitress was rather blunt and there was not even an apology that they could not provide me with a suitable hot drink. Shocking! I will be avoiding this place in future - Brasserie Blanc is so much better on menu offerings and service quality.

Really disappointing as the other things on the plate were so tasty as were starters and desserts. Champagne a bargain - thank you! And the staff were charming.

My wife and I enjoyed a superb Sunday lunch at the Daffodil. A great selection of starters and perfectly cooked roast beef with a lovely selection of vegetables and, of course, the obligatory Yorkshire pudding. The accompanying red wine went down well and all was served by a very pleasant waitress. We will be returning!

My first time at The Daffodil with family. We had the Sunday roast which was lovely. The meat was good quality and the portions were good. It was a relaxed atmosphere and the staff were friendly. I like the open space in the restaurant. We had 3 courses which were all superb.

We used to be regulars here with the previous owners, and thought we'd try going back. It seems the only thing that's been updated in the 3 years in between is the carpet. They seemed understaffed... trying not to be too critical as they all did their best - but they seemed really up against it. Having to chase for ordered drinks, some of our food was cold albeit I think perfectly cooked before being left too long (chateau briand). But the saddest point was the salmon tartare starter, with a total of 5 thumbnail sized chunks of salmon. They removed this from the bill when we complained... but this isn't what a restaurant of this level, or at least the level they used to be and still maintained by their price level, should be trying to get away with.

Housed in what was once an Art Deco Cinema, the ambience is excellent. Always busy and a good buzz going on. Reliably good food, albeit a bit pricey, but worth it.

Came to Cheltenham for the first time for 2 days to explore a new town with the wife, 12 yr old daughter and her friend. For a mini post Christmas trip. Firstly we love this place! Great cosmopolitan spot in the beautiful Cotswolds. Given the limited time we had it was a tough choice for Sunday lunch as we cook it very well ourselves every Sunday at home and always find it difficult to find a venue that could match. We decided on the beautiful 1920’s cinema converted premises known as The Daffodil. WOW! We opted for the bottomless Sunday lunch and were not disappointed. Endless Prosecco, white or red wine, fabulous food and great attentive service by the wonderful HUGO. Fabulous and well converted venue, full of atmosphere, great staff and wonderful food. Will be coming back to Cheltenham and will be booking to come back here for sure. Good tip is that we are wine lovers and given the fact is was a bottomless brunch I always expect the wine to be barely drinkable but I was pleasantly surprised that it was very drinkable indeed! Treat yourselves and visit the daffodil. I’m sure you’ll love it

We ate here for the 3rd time in two weeks and the food has been amazing on each occasion. A few service blips, possibly due to staff shortages but one particular member of staff stood out for mention - Hugo. He was so friendly, engaging and we would love for him to wait on our table at ALL of our future visits. Rest assured, we will be back!

Very different venue with our expectations high after reading reviews and their discussion on the phone regarding the show night. Unfortunately we had a very lack lustre evening, with service starting well but as the venue got busier, it showed that they couldn’t cope and we didn’t see a waiter let alone be able to request a drink for 15 minutes. Then we got charged for cocktails that we didn’t receive.

Visited The Daffodil for the first time on Saturday 14th Dec . Outside beautifully decorated for the festive season. We were greeted and coats taken also offered a glass of bubbles or juice. We were taken upstairs to our table which was on the balcony. There was a Christmas menu or a la carte and as a group you can only order from one menu- not really understanding that ! So as one or two of the group didn’t want the Xmas menu we ate from the a la carte . I had slow cooked beef cheeks , delicious but very sparse vegetables, 2 tiny carrots, one minuscule parsnip and very hard green beans. The beef was sat on a small amount of mash potatoes. For £20 I think one would expect more veg. Dessert at £8 , I had Cream Brûlée which was a good size and delicious. Drinks are very pricey - be warned !

My partner booked a surprise Christmas lunch for me as I work in healthcare and will be working all over the Christmas period. I've always wanted to go her a lady took the booking for us to turn up today to find they are closed our booking was for 13.30 they don't open until 17.00 disappointed isn't the word I'd use to say I will not be thinking of ever trying to go there again.

Ate here with friends for a set Sunday lunch. The building, entry and dining room were very stylish and yet cosy and warm. The atmosphere was great. The service was fantastic- friendly, efficient and attentive. We all had a starter - I had the soufflé which was delicious. I then had roast beef, the portion size was just right. The beef pink and without fat, the roast potatoes crisp on the outside and fluffy inside. All round it was a fantastic lunch.

Excellent service and excellent food. Eight of us ate very well. Issue with annoying fruit flies remedied by removing £170 of wine from our bill. That said, still happy to return

This is a beautiful venue and worth a visit. It's like stepping back in time. Service although very friendly was slow. Starters were delicious. The main course was not as good as we've had previously. Didn't make it to dessert as service was too slow and it got too late. Perhaps it's worth booking an early timeslot.

Decided to try The Daffodil with the family, as it has been some years since we have eaten here. We had booked for 7 o'clock so arrived and we were shown to our table, the restaurant wasn't totally full although we had booked fairly early. We all chose starters and mains which were well presented and tasty. Service was efficient and prompt, which is at odds with previous comments which state that service was slow? Two of us had desserts which were delicious. Overall a very enjoyable evening, I haven't given it a five as it is quite expensive and although it is great venue serving good food it didn't blow me away.

All pretty average I am afraid. Room and furniture rather dated (and cheap feel). Food. Once fashionable but no longer and not well prepared. Given the layout of the room with the kitchen on one side, the staff and bar the other, and the patrons in the middle, the service should have been 5 stars. Sadly not, 2 for service. Connor, don’t compensate for your staff. Manage them.

We had a wonderful evening here on Friday. The Daffodil is welcoming, warm and classy. Our food was delicious and the staff were excellent - Ellie & a young man whose name I didn’t get. They picked up that we were celebrating and a celebratory dessert was presented with a sparkler and chocolatey words - a total surprise which we really appreciated: Thankyou. I thoroughly recommend The Daffodil.

So myself and partner decided to come back to Cheltenham to revisit our first ever weekend away together four years ago and retrace our steps by coming back to this restaurant. Have to say the second time was not as good as the first time. We were early so were sent upstairs for drinks and didn’t find the bar man too friendly. My partner had asked for the booth when he had booked online, we weren’t given one which was fine, then when talking to possibly the manager he said he had seen the notes but the booths aren’t open on a Monday as it’s too quiet, thought it might have been courteous to email him back saying this. Whilst we were sitting upstairs we seen a couple leave a booth downstairs ( these weren’t being used later due to the music ) about 15 mins before we were seated. Once we were settled and seated we ordered a bottle of Sancerre which the possible manager brought. Told us he would get a wine bucket and said ‘oh look there is one there’ this was from the couple we had seen leave. The bucket was just full of water, I have never seen anything like it or so lazy. I know my partner emailed to say about this but had no reply. The food was nice, cocktails were amazing but can’t say the same for the service.

The pub itself is stunning with its open fires and stone walls. Staff very helpful and polite. Room a little dated but had everything we needed very comfy bed. Breakfast was lovely we had it included but if you dont its only £12 for anything you like off the menu pastries muffins also includes tea coffee orange juice cereal (refills) absolute bargain. Beautiful surroundings and views. Would definitely stay here again.

Arrived for lunch 12.10 19/12/24. Busyish, wanted fish and chips but NO cod!!! My brother in law wanted gammon and egg but No eggs!! Had tikka masala, rice no longer in dish just heaped on plate, nearly cold, curry Luke warm at best, really didn't enjoy it at all. Went to gents, one urinal completely blocked, full of urine, not particularly clean!! Won't be visiting here again, you get what you pay for!!

The location of this pub is good but there's hardly any parking and the food is absolutely awful. I understand that it is a Greene King pub not a gourmet pub but you still expect a bit better food. I ordered jerk chicken dumplings and they were all dry, slightly uncooked, barely warm, no sauce and very dry. Not edible. And they topped it up with "salad" which consisted of around 10 wilted rocket leaves. Absolutely awful.

We go with my parents there regularly. They like the food, and it is easy for them to access the building and get a table. The staff are friendly and polite, there is a reasonable choice of meals at an affordable price. They always have at least one ale on the tap. Today we were served by Marty and Nikita.
