The Curious Tavern in Nottingham

Me and my partner come in here often for drinks , today we have came in and had such a brilliant server I felt as thought I had to write a review , I believe his name was Joey, not sure if he’s one of the owners. He has been so attentive to any minor queries we have had and has been so personal and friendly. Top notch customer service compared to any I have seen in Nottingham! He has made our night in his friendliness and personalisation! He deserves as much credit as possible.

Dark n smells! SIKE that Danny bloke is sound, Connor is sound, that egg is sound, n everyone else who works there but that tall yank keeps talking about the confederacy and it's scaring the pocs + edl graffiti in the toilets

Great staff inside and great food but 1 star for the bouncer, that guy should get the sack. A good bouncer will do his due diligence, be welcoming, and enhance the bars image- this particular puts the place to shame.

Place has gone so downhill, half of the spirits aren't in stock, staff are rude and must be the only "bar" of Nottingham to not have Vodka, oh wait the venue next door "Lost Property" which is attached also doesnt and is owned by the same folk. The place has a horrible toilet/damp smell which is more intoxicating than the drinks. They definitely were letting minors in too. Save your money, go somewhere else where you don't need to take a Glade Airfreshner to stop the assault on your nostrils

Used to be my favourite bar with good music and a great atmosphere. On yesterday’s visit the barman skipped a Smiths song 4 seconds in!!!!

Superb place to have drinks and listen to live music. Great atmosphere. We had a really good time!

A very good pub, I enjoyed it immensely, but please don't go in there for the much hyped cave thing. Very disappointing. It is a very small, cloudy piece of glass on the floor. £6 a pint. A lot more than I would pay in my town, but maybe in a city, it's the norm.

Lovely staff and drinks but a little smelly so we sat outside with the lovely security guard and enjoyed the night

Was staying at the hotel next door to this tavern; I must say it was great to go and have a drink at! Wasn’t too busy so didn’t have to queue for long, plenty of seating and great staff. They have a pool table and seating out front. Good selection of drinks and a chilled out vibe which plays great music imo! Would defo recommend.

Leo was amazing. He may have said it was football. But the guy was honestly brilliant l, we had a drink together and all.i can say to that is skål. I look forward to meeting you again my friend

Interesting place, good vibe friendly staff, music was a bit loud which would not bother me but for the group it was a bit loud. Otherwise all good.

Coming here for a few years now always been awesome, however this time round! No cider or larger we wanted okay so we will have a gin that comes served in a whisky glass, as no gin glasses 😕 bar staff was rude and abnoxious! Safe to say will not be coming here again.

Not going to lie, the fracas outside was comedy gold. Nothing to do with the pub itself, but two blokes drunkenly arguing over chips and throwing them at each other was worthy of You've Been Framed. I miss that show. Hang on, I don't, it's on repeat on ITV3 forever. The pub is great, fantastic atmosphere and diverse clientele.

Looked pretty cool but it's a bit grubby and I know it was a Tuesday but there was a real lack of drink options available. The speaker music was just dire, had to leave quickly.

Nice interior, but lack of drinks selection with several not available. Music sounded like the barman's mates band. Was quite dead and Guiness didn't taste great

Nice bar, cool views through glass floor into the caves, good live music occasionally too. Used to have good real ales from the cask, they have gone which is a shame but a decent selection of ale in cans remains.

Lovely place to drink so much history

Odd place, comfy armchairs and word panelling sit alongside a larger than expected dancefloor and DJ booth. Had fun.

If you like good beer with a great atmosphere and a fun time, this is the place for you. Not sure how old it is, but it has a great feel and friendly staff. Good find as we are not locals.

Absolutely shocking, refused entry for apparently being too drunk when we had only just left our room. Door staff are very rude and obnoxious!

Curious Tavern surely got my curiosity to come in. Bar have nice theme going on (old fashion), dark lit so great for vampires, small size but not micro. Audience towards punk rock, nice collection of music. Selection wise of drinks decent amount to pick from. Have a pool table inside with plenty of space around to play.

Always a good selection of drinks, but sometimes not always the best service

My wife was humiliated by the door staff. She very slightly tripped on her entrance and was told she was drunk. She clearly was not drunk and was well presented.Really random decision that spoilt our night. Based on our experience not sure how anyone gets in! I'd advise less pretentious locations- there are many better options in Hockley.

Myself and my partner have been visiting the Curious Tavern for the past 3 years and have always enjoyed the music, atmosphere and venue. This is usually where we meet friends and have drinks with family and have always recommend the venue. Unfortunately when visiting last night we had a very unpleasant experience with the bouncer staff on the door who were very rude and difficult. The bouncer tried to deny us entry because my partner was wearing what he called joggers although they definitely were not, but Zara black elasticated trousers. He told us that we couldn’t come in because of the trousers although we could see other customers wearing these type trousers in the venue and others wearing beanies and more relaxed clothing (which we pointed out). The other bouncer wearing a grey suit who we had seen when visiting before on numerous occasions, I turned to and explained we were regulars and visited often and had never had any issues. I asked him if there was now a dress code and I couldn’t see anything on the website about wearing elasticated trousers and he completely ignored me not saying anything, letting his colleague continue to tell us otherwise. This was REALLY disappointing as we thought that Curious Tavern was an inclusive & relaxed venue of Nottingham. It’s a shame that great venues employ such disappointing bouncer staff which really lets the place down. We will sadly now be taking our custom elsewhere. We recommend Curious Tavern including this on their website if there is a dress code and treating all customers the same if there is.

Be careful at the bar here, popped in for a drink, late last saturday night, ordered 2 pints of guiness, payed by swipe, only to discover this week i was charged £20.60 for 2 pints!! Lesson learnt, always check what your swiping for! Either extortionate pricing or dishonest staff?

The Curious Tavern can be easily missed in the lace market area of Nottingham but it shouldn't be its a great place to visit with a charming atmosphere and good selection of alcohol.

I would go back there very happily ! One cocktail they did not serve is margarita

It's a great place for couple of pints and chat with your friends and it has a 'magical' glass floor.

Pleasant place to spend a little time whether shopping, staying over. Conveniently situated in the heart of hockey. Staff are helpful and pleasant.

My twin brother Stephen and I always make a point of visiting The Curious Tavern whenever we are in Nottingham, a truly historic pub that's just a joy to drop into. This pub is superb, the interior is fabulous, wonderful decor and furnishings, a solid wood serving bar dominates the main room and there's plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, its just a grand pub . We were here on a Tuesday evening, we were greeted with a smile by a very pleasant member of the bar team who turned out to be the manager, we ordered pale ale's from the Navigation Brewery, these were served in excellent condition, we just kicked back, chilled out and soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular pub, while sipping my pale ale I took some photo's of the pub interior to upload onto my TripAdvisor review and the manager who saw my interest in the pub interior kindly offered me a tour of the rooms in the cellar, a work in progress but what a work in progress ,the rooms look amazing, the cave room beautifully illuminated look fab but you can see that when it's all complete this area of the pub will be a must go destination ,it was a superb impromptu tour ,a really nice gesture by the manager, I really appreciated it. My ale was really good, a crisp, well balanced pale ale, hints of toffee, a delicious aroma and aftertaste with a slight bitter finish, a classic British pale ale, it was just so good being in such a lovely pub enjoying a quality brew. We really enjoyed our pale ale's in here before we moved on and as on every other visit to The Curious Tavern we had a great time. The Curious Tavern is easy to locate along George Street. Opening hours are; Monday, Closed. Tuesday to Thursday, 4pm till Midnight. Friday, 2pm till 2am. Saturday, Midday till 2am. Sunday, 4pm till Midnight. A wonderful pub ,most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area.

Really nice staff, really nice environment, cosy place

The Curious Tavern is an unbelievable craft beer bar in the city centre that offers a fantastic craft beer selection and is situated in Carlton street in the oldest hotel in Nottingham. I have been to thousand's of pubs and bars in the UK and all over Europe and the pubs and bars we love to visit are ones with unusual names and this is what drew me to this superb craft beer bar. The Curious Tavern is very atmospheric with lots of interesting feature's to many to list on a review of this size.We came here late in the afternoon as we remember coming here a couple of years ago and we really liked this bar on that visit. This visit was even better as the staff in here were excellent and very friendly.Once we ordered our beers which where a few glasses of beer from the Navigation brewery which where superb and well priced one of the staff noticed I was taking a few pictures in here for my TripAdvisor review and he kindly gave my twin brother a tour of the bars in the basement area which are there and another one that was being developed. This young man who didn't have to do this was a credit to this bar and if everyone had is attitude to customer care the hospitality sector would be booming. A superb craft beer bar with superb staff and an absolute pleasure to visit a bar that cares for it's customers.Very easy to get to from George street bus stop its a minute walk. Lovely place, came in Saturday for a drink, nice bar staff, very polite...

We were staying in the Mercure Hotel next door so we ended our night here for a final drink. At 1am, on a Saturday night they had run out of red wine!! but the staff were very friendly and it wasn't long before I had chosen something else. The tavern has had to change slightly during these Covid times but we were still given a nice table and offered great service. Oh and the prices are very reasonable. Give this place a go.

We went on a Saturday a couple of weeks ago. The doorman is really friendly and the staff prompt as they deliver your drinks to you. The manager was really friendly and when the cider wasn't in ehat he ordered hr gave him a free drink if his choice because he had waited a bit for the barrel change. We had a great time and they have a band on but we left before that. It's a small quaint establishment with a small front outdoor seating area.

Such a good vibe. If you are looking for a place to spend the whole day and night...come here. Waitrons are well mannered and the music is great. Coming from Cape Town SA, this place is a home away from home.

Interesting old pub, a bit out of the way. Decent beers but quite pricey

such hype, such a disappointment as, it turns out, the food is as cold as the staff - or it would have been had we got around to ordering. All the decor in the world doesn't hide the fact that nobody here cares enough about the customers (us) to wonder why customers (us) walk out after waiting an age for a basic level of service. But poorly trained staff are, ultimately, a reflection on the people who claim to manage the place. We won't be back to Curious.

A really good bar and part of a hotel. Good atmosphere and not too noisy. This place is central to the night life in Hockley which also makes a great place to stay! Well worth a visit even for a couple of early drinks!

Very good and helpful and polite staff

Been here several times over the last couple of years, it just doesnt deliver. We've stood at the bar and had no acknowledgement that we are even there and then for people coming in afterwards to get served first. Secondly theres always a certain drink they dont have and its substituted by something else without saying anything to us (good job we know our drinks) . Staff training to a higher standard would be beneficial to all concerned .

Nipped in for a drink with a friend on a Monday. Cocktails were £7.50 each which is pretty standard for non-happy hour in Nottingham. The vibe is great, and the music was fab- think Fleetwood Mac and Eric Clapton. Great service too, thanks!
