The Crown Inn in Harrogate

Knaresborough, The Crown. We were there. Early on a Friday morning we popped in for breakfast. As you do. It’s what Wetherspoons is for. Two traditional breakfasts and two coffees. Easy. Toast, bacon, sausage, baked beans, hash browns and an egg. Poached not fried, the egg, not the toast. Or the bacon. And the less said about poached sausage, the better. Breakfast arrived and we picked up our flimsy cutlery eagerly. Poached eggs in ‘Spoons are like a game of eggy Russian roulette. You have a one in six chance of it being uncooked to the point of being snotty and a similar chance of being so hard boiled you’ll need a steak knife to cut through it. On that day, the pull of the trigger revealed oozing yolk and a solid white. Perfection. The toast was warm and just about brown. The bacon and sausages weren’t what you’d call hot, but they were warm enough. The beans, as always, had that skin you only find on the surface of food that has just survived the nuclear fusion of a microwave. Fortunately, it was fine enough covering to mix in and vanish almost entirely. The two coffees we enjoyed were very nice indeed and the pub overall was one we’d happily return to. Recommended.

Food was fine, all hot and fresh, enjoyed by all but the service was shocking as far too few staff. Sat with dirty plates in front of us till we left over 30 min after finishing meal, other tables too. Pub smelt unclean, floor really dirty, no glasses washed, no condiments filled, just lacked any service about it.

I ordered a drink on the app. 20+ minutes later the drink had not arrived. The bar and kitchen were not busy, 3 staff on. I had to ask one staff member where my drink was before it was brought to Me. No apologies were offered, in fact 'here' as the drink arrived, was all that was offered. This is not acceptable staff behaviour on a not very busy time of night.

I’m not a great fan of Wetherspoons pubs but I have to say that the Crown in Knaresborough was way ahead of the norm when it comes to poor service. Although the pub was pretty busy, there weren’t that many at the bar waiting to be served and, with three bar persons on duty, it should have been a doddle - but it wasn’t. We were clearly at the wrong end of the bar as far as the staff were concerned and even when one of the barmen came to our location to pull beer, not once did he speak, smile, or even make eye contact. None of this “I’ll be with you in a moment” nonsense. There was neither rhyme nor reason re how this trio worked. They all congregated at one end of the bar, leaving two thirds of the waiting clientele in a service wilderness zone. They either had no idea re who had been waiting longest, or didn’t care, and simply served whoever appeared in front of them. We could of course have moved to that end of the bar, but as we had already wasted 15 minutes of our time we decided to go somewhere else; somewhere where the bar staff have received some basic training re how to engage with customers and how to divide their labour by each working a section of the bar. Of course, many people like this pub for its cheap prices, but if you simply rate it in terms of service, it’s easily the worst pub in Knaresborough.

What an experience, as it always is when I'm here. Whenever Beth is working, it's always an absolute laugh. Definitely an asset to the company. Very informative, knowledgeable, and always there to make you feel better when you don't feel very good. Definitely will be returning, hopefully Beth will be working on my next visit.

Standards dropping. Chocolate brownie advertised with chocolate sauce. They did not have any!!!!!! The lady I spoke to was not concerned. Not the usual standard.

We popped in here as we were passing on our way to Sunderland and could not wait any longer for something to eat as we had not eaten since yesterday afternoon and we know that Weatherspoon's are fast at getting the food out but we made a big mistake. My other half wanted a empire state burger which they don't do any more instead its an american burger with only 3 beef patties instead of 4 also you don't get the onion rings with this burger whereas you did with the empire state burger and its actually dearer and you get less food - The are ripping us off here - more money and less food - on top of this, the burger was missing it's bacon and red onions and what ever sauce was supposed to be on it so it was very dry. I had a large mixed grill and the beef was like shoe leather, the gammon tasted like it had a table spoon of salt on it. The egg was rock hard, the pork was also tough and cold and the lamb had no taste at all. The only thing on my plate that was of any good was the sausages and peas. The chips were not that hot oh and I forgot to say when we ordered we wanted to order some onion rings and the didn't have any. We did complain about our food and the girl asked if we had eaten it which we had because we were both so hungry and they said well there's nothing we can do. Also the girl who served us did nothing but complain to one of her colleagues about coming in on her day off and got no thanks for it and every time she went to the station were they were getting peoples orders she never stopped going on about it. New staff arrived and she was going mad about them too for being late and we should not have had to hear all this. Anyway back to the food and all I can say is I will never go to another weatherspoons pub again. The food has never been great but this was the final straw. Nearly £30 spent for food that was absolutely crap. I'd have been better off in McDonalds and that's saying something.

The beer as usual was well looked after,must get my app working service was a little slow,food was what we expected hot and not bad really

Excellent meal at a bargain price. Went for the afternoon special, so was even better value. Food was piping hot, well presented, and service fast and friendly. Can't beat Wetherspoons for a filling, tasty meal. The Steak and Kidney pudding, mash and peas is lovely. Knaresborough is a beautiful town and well worth a visit.

Food presented lovely everything cooked correctly and nice temperature. Must be 9ne of the best whetherspoons i have eaten at.

I never know what I’m going to get when entering a Wetherspoons, except for the great prices. Visited Knaresborough for a break from London, with my daughter. Food was served quickly and was hot. Nicely cooked American burger. Served by a polite young man who later checked how the meals were. Service at the bar was attentive and friendly. Maybe my standards are lower, being used to dreadful London Spoons, but we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and returned the next day for drinks.

Breakfast before setting off home after spending a lovely weekend in knaresborough. I had the traditional breakfast which included bacon, sausage, egg , beans, hash brown x2 and toast for £4.60 with unlimited hot drinks for £1.35. Very good value in this local Wetherspoons in the centre of town on the main road.

I appreciate that it was a busy lunchtime, but had to ask for the table to be cleaned, then we're served wine in half pint glasses.

Had to ask to get table cleaned. Food came and chips were luke warm. Put food back which came back with hot chips but everything else had gone cold! My bacon was burnt and cold, my poached egg was still partly uncooked inside. Asked where condiments were and was told beside coffee machine and waitress wandered off (never been before so had to wander around aimlessly trying to find this). Yes, you do get what you pay for. Cheap price, cheap food. Avoid unless desperate.

Go elsewhere if you want fine dining and 5* service, but it’s ideal for a quick drink while exploring beautiful Knaresborough. Like most weatherspoons they have taken over a historic central building and done a good job. We had no problem with service and the facilities were pristine . We did not eat there but the hot and cold drinks we ordered were excellent.

Always visit local wethys when we go anywhere. Unfortunately they seem to be struggling. Lack of staff seems to be the main issue. The crown was a bit grubby, tables left uncleared and the easiest of food orders messed up. Very disappointed.

Haven't eaten here since covid started the food was good as before hot and value for money ,the beer was well kept and local.The service was good ,the tables could have been cleared and wiped quicker was only problem I had.

Visited here at the weekend and its the same old wetherspoons what u expect anywhere. Cheap and cheerful.The doorstaff seem to let many obvious trouble causers and give them six or seven empty threats before letting the bar staff sort it while they stand there grinning. After finally letting the bar staff remove the trouble causers the doorman let the group of trouble causers back in. Won't be visiting here again.

We had a meal here yesterday as we were staying at a local guest house. This is the first time we've visited a Wetherspoons since lockdown and we were very impressed by the social distancing and other measures that have been put in place to ensure customers' safety. The food was good and delivered very promptly to our table by a pleasant young man. The young lady who I ordered with, Olivia, was also extremely polite and helpful- well done The Crown!

I was absolutely appalled to see that a group of 6 girls who were not doing anything wrong came in for a meal and the manger kicked them out. Not only did she do that when they did nothing wrong she went to other customers that the group didn’t know and started explaining the situation and pointing which is extremely unprofessional. I will not be visiting again after my awful experience

We were a group of 4 that went in for lunch during the eat out to help out in late August. When we arrived just after 12 the pub was in Chaos ! There were people and kids every where not much social distancing been done or enforced and certainly no cleaning either! We should of turn around but our two friends had found a table so we sat down and ordered food and drinks. Some how the condiments trolley was behind me so I constantly been bashed in the back or people having a lovely conversation right over me, I complained only to be told there was no where else to put it ‍♀️ although with social distancing I would of thought it’s better to ask customers if they would like condiments or not and bring it to them! It took over an hour for our food to arrive just in time for us to go and catch our train!

Special offer mon,tues,wed,during August.visted on a Wednesday, staff very helpful,menus difficult to read, very small print due to reducing menu during COVID and disposable version,bargain price for mid week meal,track and trace forms to complete,sanitizer on entry,reassuring, felt like a bit of normality.

We used the app as requested fine , but at least four party's went to the bar and got there drinks before us so why bother.The gammon steak wasn't 10 Oz it was very burnt 2 5 Oz,the beer was ok and the wine was good but will wait a lot longer before returning.

We were very reluctant to go into a Witherspoon's due to Covid but bit the bullet here. To be honest everything was in place will all safety measures in place. We felt really safe. Thanks to the chancellor took advantage of the 50%off meals. Steak night so even better value. Mixed grill was excellent and we spent next to nothing. Will visit again

First of all, my trip here would have been pleasant enough was it not for the fact we are still in the middle of a pandemic. The food and drinks were cheap and tasty and service was quick. But I have reason to believe the staff have a worryingly limited awareness of the fact we are now in a time where basic hygiene needs to be prioritised. Upon arrival, we found a table outside that was very messy still. It took a while for the waiter to come clean it (we made sure not to touch the table beforehand). We asked the young man to wipe the table down, but I'm not sure what they teach them in school these days because his cloth probably came into contact with about 10% of the table, at best. Concerned about the lack of hygiene, my mother later rang up the pub to express her worries. The manager said it was our fault the table was so dirty because we shouldn't have entered the pub from the back entrance to immediately sit outside - instead we should have apparently gone inside the building first to be shown to a table. There were no signs suggesting this, and I'm not sure many sensible people are actually wanting to go inside busy pubs when cases are beginning to rise again? Overall, nice food, but I left feeling like I had been exposed to all sorts of germs. How pleasant.

A good start to a day out breakfast at wetherspoons. The Crown inn didn't disappoint.Large breakfast is large phew saves on having to buy lunch!Coffee as always great. However the CV19 rules means a new cup for each refil, small cups meant many clean cups!

Breakfast was nice. It does what it says on the tin. You know what you’re going to get with Weatherspoons. Not gourmet food but still nice & at a very reasonable price. I arrived at 11.15. Plenty of people were sat down but it wasn’t rammed. Got served by Jodie, who was lovely. Food arrived within 5 minutes & was piping hot. Toilet floor was grubby but besides this I couldn’t really knock anything. Everything was much the same as all my Weatherspoons visits. They seem to train there staff pretty well & generally employ nice people. Reading past reviews it sounds like 1 or 2 people have spoiled this. I’m confident that the people attracting the bad reviews will have been dealt with.

My wife and I are regular visitors here and use other Wetherspoons pubs for meals frequently.Food is usually pretty good but not excellent, and portion sizes are okay but not excessive.On this visit, being on a post-Christmas diet, I had the 'Skinny Sirloin' as did my wife. I don't usually trust pubs for steak because they don't usually cook them very well, but the steaks we had in The Crown were just perfect. Service was excellent too.The only down side was that on this visit, the beer selection was not as good as usual although on past visits, I've been more than happy with the range available.Cheap beer, good value for money food, and friendly efficient staff. Probably slightly better than the average Wetherspoons and we shall continue to visit for food & drink.

18/12/19I am appalled at the service of the manager in Wetherspoons, Knaresborough. My friend had just literally finished her lunch and to be told to leave the premises straight after is absolutely unacceptable. We were not being disruptive in any way shape or form we were sat there silently and politely and finishing our dinner and to be ushered out for no reason is blatant rudeness! The staff should stop being disrespectful to people who come into the restaurant and pay for the food and the service to get hit by a response that is utterly rude! I am ashamed and feel victimised by the response that we got. I will not be coming into the restaurant again until I have a formal apology from the manager who was disrespectful!

Six of us were on a Christmas gathering in knaresborough, trying various drinking haunts. We got to the Crown, and decided to eat. Firstly tables were available but dirty, so had to ask someone to clear a table, then using our App ordered drinks, that took approximately 25 minutes to arrive. We then ordered food, which arrived in about the same time scale, however, I had the lamb shank, that was dry, and had clearly been microwaved as the mash was stuck to the side of the plate and had gone rubbery. My wife had chilli, that was poor and again the dish had clearly been microwaved, as the rice was stuck together and dry. We also complained about the heating not been on. We were told that they had just put it on and the room would heat up soon. It didn’t! We were then told an engineer was on his way to fix it. Altogether a very poor experience for all of us. I would like to point out that I’m a frequent visitor to Wetherspoons at Leeds station, and Manchester Piccadilly, which are always much busier, yet the service via the App, is almost instant.

I was on the way to Harrogate and as the train approached Knaresborough decided to get off because I knew there was a Wetherspoons there.A rather nice building, not sure what was housed here prior to being a Spoons. I had the fish Friday deal. Food was okay, but could have done with more peas. For the drink I enjoyed a local ale: Black Moor, an enjoyable dark ale

Called in for a quick drink at lunchtime Monday whilst on a short visit to the Town. A large property with outside seating and all the usual Wetherspoon’s benefits I.e. cheap food & drink.

The atmosphere is fine here but the toilets were poor. I went into 4 cubicles before I found one that I was happy to go to the toilet in. I have found this the same in Ripon in the Unicorn. I have no objection to men bringing in boys to the ladies, but what’s wrong with the gent’s that a man can’t take a young boy into them to pass faeces.

Dirty table asked for it to be cleaned but it never happened. No menus on the table.Took ages to order food as overcharged & had to start again. Often have this problem there. Food came immediately. Chicken breast looked more the size of pigeon breast & extremely dry.

We visited here for lunch on Saturday 7 September 2019. It was very busy inside but we were able to find a table. This pub suffers from the same problem that all Wetherspoon pubs have in that after children have eaten and left the part of their meals that finds its way to the floor stays there. I do not find it inviting to sit at tables that are dirty or to sit around detritus under foot. Having said that, the good that we received here was of very good quality and portion. Lovely meal and good beer.

Found the staff rude and unhelpful. Huge wasp problem outside, couldn't sit out, even inside landing in drinks we were then unable to drink. Staff rude and unhelpful regarding this problem. Long wait for food... Awful sewer smell... No ice on hot day... Will not be returning any time soon

Staying nearby at Kingfisher Campsite, we walked into Knaresborough and the first pub we came across was The Crown Inn, we had a few drinks and went for a Walk round the Castle, we called back, and me and my wife both had a pizza and drink deal, the pizzas were lovely, fresh, plenty of ingredients on a base, we will visit again.

Great food and curry. Disappointed, I was short changed by the young barman on purpose for £1. Would have complained but the bar had a few people nearby and didn't want to make a scene. Won't return xx

We were tired after spending a full day at the show so basically wanted a quick meal and drinks. The staff at the crown work extremely hard and the guy who served us who’s name was Jayson went over and above to ensure everything was in order. Well done Jayson and all the other Crown staff. The food was delicious and the Gin selection excellent. Thank you for being a no nonsense unpretentious pub.

Our friend had been to The Crown Inn, Weatherspoons what a pleasure it was today ,lovely cosy feel as soon as we walked in ,only had coffee ☕️ x2 great coffee,spoke to a very nice lady who was topping up the coffee vending machine she was the manager,Loren such a pleasant and kind lady a credit to you thank you Weatherspoons Knarsborough ☕️

Found this Wetherspoon's by chance whilst exploring Knaresborough and decided to return for a late family lunch. The children were excited to discover that this is a Wetherspoon's pizza pub - our local isn't so this was a nice bonus.

We popped in here for a drink and a bite to eat. As the bed race was on it was very busy but the staff were working hard and it didn’t take long to get served at the bar. We ordered the food using the app. All food was very nice.

Had fish and chips Friday and it was not only fantastic value for money but delicious.

Called with friends whilst visiting Knaresborough and enjoyed an excellent lunch off the "Steak Day" menu. Plenty of space between tables, attentive and friendly staff made for an enjoyable dining experience at a very reasonable price.

Eaten several times over the weekend as we trust the wetherspoons brand. We had our reservations after reading some reviews. The meals are great value and good quality. Some of the staff are great some not so .

We went there tonight for a family meal as my son is home from University for a few days and after a busy day I didn’t fancy cooking.

Me and my partner have just ordered dinner . I got lasagne ( barely warm) my partner got the creamy risotto ( cold ) we called one of the staff over who took the risotto away and gave us a free drink by way of compensation. When he returned with the replacement meal it was colder than the original dish infact in was freezing in the middle.

We enjoyed a steak night. Two super steaks cooked to perfection and served by a very hard working attractive young lady who seemed to be doing everything except cook the food! More staff needed ! The pub was very clean and tidy. Enjoy !

We called sat in beer garden with dog sat there we ordered our food them went back out side then informed by arrogant manager no dogs allowed in bar didn't say anything Bout out side in garden so we said we would have our money back manager replied we will see if you can they saw us outside and took our money then informed us I understand they have rules no signs in beer garden after alot of fuss we did get our money back disgusting service how we were treated would not go there again be aware it's a shame as it looked a lovely pub

WETHERSPOONS is known all over the country and has a simple formula that really works well for the company, but the Crown Inn goes just that bit further.

We went on Tuesday 30th October 2018 for lunch. I had ham egg and chips and my friend had pizza. I have been here before and it is the best weatherspoons I have been in and I live in York but prefer this weatherspoons to the one in York. The Manager and staff are always happy and come round to see if your food is okay. The food always comes out quickly when you have ordered and the service is good. The staff are very hardworking and work well as a team. Keep up the good work!!!!

Ordered a garlic bread pizza and chips after a hospital visit was told by a member of what I presume to be management after we've paid that they don't normally cook pizzas until a certain time and did we still want it, no offer of a refund so we said yes we would still like the pizza, when it arrived it was almost like a giant crisp that had been either rolled too thin or cooked too long, their was only half a bowl of chips and my partners egg on his all day brunch wasn't cooked properly.

Called in for a morning coffee. Did not realise how well it was set up for early morning coffee. Get your mug and pay at the bar and it is self service.

Had a lovely evening with great value for money at this Great dining pub on the high street in Knaresborough. We went for the steak night with our boys and the food and service was really good.

typical Wetherspoons, nicely laid out with loads of room and booths as well. excellent selection of real ales .food is ok and the prices are good... dont expect gourmet food but it is very acceptable !

Ordered a breakfast and after everyone else who arrived after us had been served I questioned the staff to be told that they had been looking for us at table 30 rather than 47 that we where sat at , the breakfast then arrived stone cold and the order wrong .

Had a really good lunch, as is usual at a Weatherspoons - ample portions, tasty and hot with friendly service too. Love the fact that you can have free refills of your coffee for no extra charge. Whether you want to go or not you must visit the ladies toilets (sorry chaps) as they are superb. Look like something out of a stately home with a chaise longue and really interesting basins.

The first time we've been here and not disappointed. I ordered teriyaki noodles with chicken which was fine but the chicken was a bit dry. The others had an assortment of chicken strips pizza and fish and chips. We all ate up and enjoyed it and would be back if in the area.

As always some good real ales but also as usual bar service hit and miss. Many of the tables hadn’t been cleared of glasses or needed a good wipe down and the place smelled rather stale.

No staff at the bar until the queue formed. Tables were not clean, glasses not collected, very disappointing for a Wetherspoon.

Very rude, we sat in a booth which was the only table free and we were rudely told move by one of the waiters because they said it was reserved and that they put a reserved sign there. There was no sign to say it was reserved yet they told us we had to move even though there were not tables to move to and we had already ordered our food! Very unhappy about this visit, the waiter should not be working in a restaurant environment if they’re going to treat customers the way they did

Wetherspoons pub, so you know what you are getting. Served efficiently and pleasantly by the staff on duty on the day we visited.

We visited here last Sunday and it was very busy although we didnt wait long to be served. We ordered our food and it arrived very quickly and more importantly very hot. I ordered dessert and again very quick and hot. Makes you wonder if Wetherspoons can do this why cant other places. Would def recommend and return!

I went to The Crown on Monday 6th August with a few friend. We sat at our table and proceeded to used the app to order out drinks, we saw this advertised so we gave it a try. So far so good. The barman approached us and quite abruptly said 'the beers gone'.... Okayy ... I was immediately thinking I've just paid for these on the app, what do I do? He just stood there with no suggestions of what to do next or any options of what actually was on. I asked him at the time what do I do and his response was 'well I can't choose for you!'.. I don't know if he was having a bad day but so far this wasn't a great experience.

Well it’s Weatherspoons so the beer is cheap and the food is good.

Really nice place where the two beers I tried were very nice served by helpful staff.Good to see unlike Spoons in Falmouth dogs are welcome in the outside area.

I visited for lunch and ordered the haloumi wrap and salad. A perfect choice for a vegetarian. Half way through eating I found a piece of ham in my salad. Obviously dissatisfied by this I returned it to the bar. The lady at the bar was very rude and her response, with a blank expression, was "Oh, right". Upon explaining that I was a vegetarian and that this was unacceptable she said "Well its nothing to do with me, I didn't make it." I asked for a refund and she disappeared without a sorry. I was then given a refund by a gentleman that I presume was in charge. He apologised and offered me another meal. I declined and explained that I will not be eating there again as I don't know what other surprises I may find in my food!

called in for a drink and food im on weight watchers diet and found there is not a lot of salads on menu which i found disappointing but the skinny chicken burger and salad was lovely which i enjoyed with my gin and tonic . so please more salads on your menu please

Only people in for breakfast and the food still came out cold.Staff very sorry.But did nothing about it. I know it's cheap but you still have to eat it.

A typical Wetherspoons establishment you see wherever you go. Friendly staff and tasty, hot food from a standard menu.

Dined here that many times I nearly know the menu off by heart. Always friendly staff and good service. Have had the usual hick ups you can get with busy establishments, delayed or incorrect meals but always been a good experience. Was there for lunch today and sat in the beer garden in the sun. Wasn't that busy and food arrived quickly and was cooked to perfection; my chicken was nice and moist. Can even order your meal at the table now without even having to go to the bar. A great addition as it's sometimes three deep at the bar and appears to take forever to get served. Run of the mill food as all spoons offer but what sets this spoons aside is their ladies toilets.

Voor een snelle hap uit de frituurpan met een glas bier kun je goed terecht. De zaak is veel groter dan van buiten lijkt. Aan de bar bestel je drank en eten, en reken je direct. Drankjes krijg je meteen mee, het eten wordt enkele minuten later door de serveerster aan tafel gebracht. Het is niet duur, maar de kwaliteit is navenant. Vergelijkbaar met een slechte snackbar in Nederland. Aan de andere kant, het is wel een echte "engelse" ervaring. Leuk om dit eens mee te maken, eetgelegenheden als deze kennen wij niet. Op dinsdagavond zat de zaak behoorlijk vol. Ik denk een van de populaire plekken van knaresborough.

Called in for breakfast on Sunday morning. We have Had many breakfasts at weather spoons and they are not that hot, but this was perfect. Fresh and hot. The toilets were immaculate with a great design!

Never ever had a bad meal or service at this Witherspoon’s pub. It’s great value for money and staff are so helpful
