Yet again, didn’t disappoint. Great service, great food, comfortable warm chilled vibe. The food is always home cooked and fresh. I had the proper pie and it was amazing. Thanks again for another great visit.

It’s not going to win any Michelin stars, but the food was very well prepared and presented. The staff were attentive without being overbearing. An excellent meal, with a good atmosphere. Will definitely be returning.

I booked a table- 4 of us---I'm a kiwi the others tourists from Sweden, Uruguay and Italy. We all agreed a bloody good inftroduction to the British roast. And uruguay have some of the best roasts. Now I've been fine dining at a lot of places from London through to Cotswold and paid twice as much for less quality. the chef needs to be praised! I'll be coming back with different company. Well done to the chef and owners- far better than those around that area- and even eclipsing the highly rated Saracens Head. The pork 10/10- just so tender. Very nice. So much gissle! And it looks the treat in the plate! The Vegetables- I never enjoyed veges so much.

Just happened across it when enroute home from Goodrich Castle (Friday lunchtime). Warm and friendly welcome. A variety of choice including pub classics and a range of delicious sounding dishes. Food excellent, (our choices, fish and chips and belly pork) service excellent . If in the area again will definitely revisit.

Went here twice during a weeks fishing in the area. Both times we were made most welcome. Although it seems to class itself as a gastro pub the atmosphere is very jovial for both eaters and drinkers. The menu was varied and the food was of excellent quality. Looking forward to going back again this time next year.

During the bleak months of winter, we took a break from it all for a weekend at The Keys. Stunning quintessential British pub, first class food and service. Very disappointing. Definitely would not recommend. Arrived at 5.45pm to be told to wait in the bar as the bathroom had not yet been cleaned. Charged £3.30 for a pint of lime and lemonade. Got to the room and found a separate toilet which was freezing. Bath was in the same room as the bed. No shower curtain or screen to protect the carpet. Had to ask for towels which were then left outside my room on the floor. Then had to ask for a cup and spoon to sort out a drink. On the website, it advertises hairdryers as being provided. I was told this was not the case by a woman who didnt seem to be very interested in rectifying their error. I asked for use of an iron and ironing board. These were available but they were attached to the wall and extremely difficult to get them free from their cradles. The hot water took a while to come through and the water pressure was poor. My evening meal was the saving grace. The food was extremely good, but I was placed at the far end of the restaurant extension, which was really cold, Everyone else was placed near the open fire. Ordering breakfast became a pantomime. I saw on a board in my room re ordering breakfast but no-one mentioned to me how it worked when I arrived, so I rang down to find out more. Apparently, I needed to have ordered breakfast by 7pm that evening, despite not knowing this. Apparently, they have issues with breakfast orders if people book through Booking.com, so why not ask people when they arrive? The time was 7,40pm and I was told they would try and find a menu so I could order, but this needed to be done by 8pm. The breakfast the following morning didnt get served until 8am, which is way too late on a weekday for people on business. The food was lovely, but the room was really cold and I had to eat with my coat on. The heating ion my room didnt really come on in the morning so I had to sit in my room waiting for breakfast, again with my coat on. On coming back into the room after breakfast, I closed the door and there was a thud. A piece of stone had fallen outside my room, luckily I wasnt injured. An awful experience. Be aware this place just isnt organised and cannot even get the basics right.

A lively ambience with locals and their dogs congregating round the bar and a roaring wood burner did bode well for our evening. The staff were all efficient ,polite and friendly. Decor is tired-peeling wallpaper, burnt carpet and grubby loos. Food was on the pricey side for the setting and the quality. My fillet steak with pepper sauce, “triple cooked”chips, onion ring and roast tomato was over £30-chips were not crisp, sauce was good and steak was average. Others in our party had fish and chips (“nothing special “ )and a beetroot falafel burger which elicited no remarks. Sticky toffee pudding was described as expensive for portion size (£7.95) and “quite nice”. I wouldn’t rush back. Better places around here for less cost.

Saturday afternoon I called in for a few pints 'best Guinness in the area' and to watch the rugby. I ended up having fillet steak stroganoff and it was excellent. Lots of tender steak, beautiful creamy sauce and hand cut chips instead of rice. Delicious.

Visited for a lunch. Had the most friendly welcome and the staff were fabulous. However the food was a bit lacking. The chips were very soggy, the chicken salty and the chef didn’t look very clean at all. Inside and the garden was really quite grubby.

Family of 4 adults went for lunch, never eaten there before and would definitely go back. The food was outstanding and I had the best burger I’ve ever had!

Called in on our way to a Forest Holiday. Wow the food was amazing, all four of us loved it. We were made to feel so welcome as was our old Labrador. It was so good we booked to come for lunch again the next day and it was just as good. Cannot recommend enough, menu is delicious , well worth a visit and cannot wait to return.

I’ve never had such a delicious bowl of soup - home made celeriac and truffle. Also great ale, lovely welcome. If you’re out walking, it’s a lovely spot to visit but really, I’d make a special journey just for the soup!

Excellent food, dog friendly, nice staff and a proper pub atmosphere. Better than expected given its somewhat limited online presence (we could only view half the menu on the Facebook page, so it was a nice surprise to find a good choice of dishes). Recommended, and will certainly visit again when in the area

Everything was dry and overcooked Hair in the Calamari Head Chef swearing in the kitchen numerous times. Head Chef turning up his music to a ridiculous level whilst cleaning down, and screaming/singing.

Booked for Sunday lunch which is advisable these days, as noticed people popping in on the off chance and not getting a table. We had a lovely lunch, the service was excellent the food was lovely. The pub in inside is decorated lovely and has a nice relaxing feeling about it. We have visited here before but only ever sat out side and had a sandwich which we couldn't fault. Really enjoyed our visit and shall be returning. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Table booked at 7pm , welcome was nice , staff were lovely . Menu was limited and a few things we wanted were not available , mac an cheese , beef stroganoff , potted pork had 1 left . Seems odd for an early Saturday booking. Pricey and the singing chef doesn't make up for that . Disappointed.

We were warmly welcomed having dropped in on the off chance we could get a meal. We had travelled from a funeral in the Midlands back to our home in South Wales. The food and drinks we ordered came quickly were well presented and tasted beautiful, the fish was clearly fresh. The establishment was very clean, busy and all the staff friendly and efficient. The Cross Keys is a very old building with plenty of atmosphere well patronage by locals, tourists and passers by. We had. Visited years before and found it very welcoming with good food and after a period when it was closed and we did not use that route we were keen to return when we saw it open again.

From outside not necessarily representative of the delights inside. Food fantastic. Service excellent. Decor inside welcoming. Has delightful conservatory & lovely garden with play area. Dog friendly.

It’s be a long time since we’ve been to the cross keys, so we booked a table, upon arrival the pubs seemed busy, but not hectic busy, the lady seated us and took our drinks order. She then returned and took the main order. For starters I had the brisket Bon Bon, and it was cooked to perfection. I then had the fish and chips, good home cooked chips and the fish wasn’t over cooked either. To summarise, the staff were great, the food was great the atmosphere was chill and the drinks were on point…. We will be back.

Lovely Inn nestled in a very picturesque part of Herefordshire. Was a little hard to find originally as the postcode given by booking .com took us to the wrong place but that's not the fault of the Inn. Very traditional looking Inn with plenty of space in the car park and very lovely staff to welcome us in as we were a little late due to traffic. Room is beautiful with part exposed brick and really adds to the rustic look that is ongoing throughout the pub. The room was a very nice size with a very comfy bed that gave a very good night's sleep. We ordered the breakfast for the morning and it was very good in quality and quantity. The singing chef also adds to the atmosphere and is actually a very good singer (not sure if he knew we could hear him). Would recommend and will be returning again.

It was just an impromptu visit to a pub while we were in the village during our holiday. After having awesome tasty food and lovely ambience with warm friendly service, anyone would wonder how did we come across such a little gem of a pub in the middle of a small village in Herefordshire. If you are in the village or passing by, highly recommend this pub for hearty food. We will visit again for sure. Our little one was cranky with food, even though kitchen closed, they took our request and made a sandwich with salad for the little one and made him happy too. Note: We are vegetarian family, but we had a great number of choices to choose from in the menu.

We were a party of ten. I had the chorizo scotch egg for starter, perfectly cooked with a nice runny yolk and really tasty. I had the rump steak with blue cheese sauce as a main , again cooked to perfection. Other members of the party had the Monkfish, Thai curry and burgers. Everybody agreed the quality of the food was top drawer. If I had any slight complaint it would be the sauce was a bit watery, but that would be being very picky. Whilst on holiday we decided to try the Cross Keys based on Trip Advisor reviews - we were not disappointed.Easy to find, really lovely village pub feeling and friendly staff. The food was so nice, all freshly cooked, piping hot, presented well, good size portions and really tasty.I can highly recommend the burger, stroganoff, fish & chips and gammon. The sticky toffee sundae was the tastiest I've had - please try it. We liked the pub and the food so much we went twice.

The Cross Keys is just off the Goodrich Cross exit of the A40 a few miles down the road from Symonds Yat and we searched it out for lunch on a fine weather August day after finding Symonds Yat, and its pubs, teaming with humanity to the extent that we couldn’t even park. Good period stone building and a large grassed garden area with lots of bench tables and a large kiddies play area at the far end which is very pleasant on a fine weather day, but you do get the traffic noise from the A40.There are three hand pumps on the bar, but only one was in operation for these post Covid lockdown reopening days but the local ale that was on was a well kept pintDecent pub grub menu and we shared a couple of starters and the Thai curry that was on. Very good quality food and good service levels from the staff. All in all a solid enough village pub.

After reading many reviews I was looking forward to a fab lunch today, BUT I have been left feeling slightly let down. This was my first visit to this country pub, the staff were very,very helpful and the service was really good in fact cant fault them. I had a starter of duck on watercress salad, omg it was delicious. I then had the belly pork which again was lovely, so tasty. So I had high hopes for a mouth watering desert, I had seen photos on reviews which gave me saliva dancing around my mouth thinking it was going to have a party, but how wrong I was. I choose chocolate brownie, it came on a plate looking delicious, but the brownie was hard, cold and very dry and extremely past its best. My daughter had the same and unfortunately it was no better infact she actually left some which is un-heard of. My husband and son had sticky toffee and that was the same. I was so looking forward to a lovely pud this was a bit disappointing, and at these prices even with the government scheme it was a shame to end the meal like this. We did mention it to the waitress as we all had left some and she said she would mention it !!!!!!!!

Great food and a varied real ale selection made it the perfect evening watering hole for our weeks holiday. The staff are very friendly and attentive and nothing is too much trouble.
