Excellent place for lunch on the outskirts of York. Enjoyed lunch here after picking up son from University. Delicious Chicken Tikka Curry and a Rib-eye steak, served by friendly staff. Set us up well for a long road trip home! Thank you.

Went here on a Saturday lunchtime and 3 of us decided to have their lunch deal, of 2 courses for £18. Unbelievable value, huge portions, the pies were described as amazing. They had huge tender chunks of beef and chicken. Prawn cocktail was a good size, with plenty of prawns. We will be back to try out their weekly steak deal. It’s just a shame they don’t serve Sunday lunch!!

Just stopped in on the way past for lunch, I had chilli jacket and wife had sausages and mash in Yorkshire pudding, we both really enjoyed the meal then had to be on our way again. The food is freshly made is not “instant” like some places, so was well worth the short wait, I still had some of my pint left and the wife had some of her appletize left. If we are back this way I wouldn’t hesitate to drop in again.

The Cross Keys is a traditional village pub. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. There is a good choice of beers, lager, and cider, including hand-pulled cask conditioned real ales. The cask ales were in excellent condition when we visited but expensive compared to some of the pubs in the centre of York. There are bar games, darts and a pool table. There is a nice outside seating area, and the pub is dog friendly.

Food was 10/10. Barman service was a 10/10. He checked on me & my wife to ensure we were enjoying our meals. Always a nice touch in restaurants. Barman was also very happy to substitute items in our meal. Chef was very skilled in cooking - food was extremely delicious & lovely presentation on the plate. Seating area was well laid out & comfy seats. Noticed there was also a pool table in a seperate large area right next to the bar, far enough away from those dining which is perfect. Very good value for money as well. Paid £45 including tip for 2 meals & 2 drinks, one of which meals was a Sirloin steak. So very good price. Only disappointment was the gents toilets. I’m sure the light in the cubicle was not working. Other than that minor inconvenience. Great restaurant, and would definitely return when in the area.

Dropped in for an impromptu visit at lunchtime. We both opted for the house Chicken Tikka curry followed by homemade vanilla cheesecake and the sticky orange and chocolate cake. The curry was really delicious and piping hot with proper home made chips, poppadom and naan bread. The puddings were lovely too. A nice local pub with very friendly and easy going service. Highly recommend.

Noisy local pub that is more a drinkers pub than a place to eat. You can start a tab here which is very unusual these days. Only serves food three days a week. The outside seating is at the front of the pub facing a busy road junction in the village so another noisy spot.

Entrance dirty and uncared for, incorrect info on their Web site about when they offered meals, when barman was consulted he said it was the fault of google and they had been trying for a long time to get google to alter it. My wife and I went here for an evening meal. We both chose the pie of the day which was said to be a steak pie, with chips and peas. The meals arrived and we asked if there was any gravy. We were told it should have been ordered at an additional cost. The pie looked nice but on cutting into it found it to be mainly filled with a very gelatenous gravy and a very small number of cubes of meat about 1cm square. The chips were very small, many too crispy to eat, and several had obviously been through the frying process more than once as they were almost cremated. My wife and I looked at each other and without prompting both said 2 out of 10. The meals with two medium cokes was just short of 35 pounds. Very poor and expensive for what was provided.

Staff friendly and lovely atmosphere and music but the Sunday roast was more of a monday left over dinner. Mashed potatoes were good, tiny portion of veg (3 rings of carrots and two tiny florets each of cauliflower and broccoli. Two (deep fried?) stuffing balls, roast potatoes that I couldn’t cut through and a large Yorkshire that was very well cooked and again difficult to slice. The beef was cold and cut into very small slices, it was very dry and crumbly. The gravy was nice. If there’s not enough customers to warrant a fresh Sunday roast then why not offer a lamb steak or a pork chop that could be cooked fresh. More vegetables and other sides that can be easily cut with an ordinary dinner knife. Apologies if this disappoints but fresh sausage and mash would’ve been more appetising!

What a difference a year makes I came in on Thursday witnessed owner and area manager using foul language while slagging off staff. I came in for a quiet drink and had to hear this, management were complaining about staff holidays and having to cover them. The food and chef is excellent and the reason people don't come in is because the restaurant is closed at the drop of a hat. Manager should be supporting not slagging staff off no wonder moral is down. Staff are excellent pity management don't agree.

Your pub is in a whole long list of fine old pubs on a reviews page to go in decour looks great and still remains the same with old charm with a barman who I will add too a long list of very friendly barmen in many other drinking establishments. I do feel and have said this too the man I was with that night that it is a shame that Dunnington only has one pub to go to but saying that well your pub will be the first pub all of the local Dunnington people will go to and no nipping up too Stamford Bridge into York City centre for a Pint or a half a pint elsewhere. Love too add this and mention this picture of England football team it was really worth supporting England Football team back then in 1966 and can only Boo them for loosing in June 2022. keep that picture up and chin up and they will be great at Football again soon.

Went to see what food was like as we have a caravan and go to Dunnington every other weekend. The lady who served us wa lovely, it was 4 and we were told they started serving food again at 5, she came about 4.30 to take our order, as it was getting busy. I honestly think our food had been keeping warm the oven since 4.30. I had hunters chicken, which was as tough as old boots and enough sauce ( which was not nice) took a battle ship. Would not have served it to my dog, husband had Gammon, again as tough as old boots, grilled tomato was not grilled, will defo not go again.

Stopped off during a long journey. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed but a refurbishment is required. The pub seems to serve as a multipurpose utility for community which is important but not somewhere which stands out as warranting a special trip. Interesting to compare the menu with one from 5 years ago on internet. It seems to be going the way of many food outlets in catering to a population brought up on a fast food diet. Food itself was OK two hungry travellers

We've been using this pub for the last ten years, through its various ups and downs, and whilst it has never exactly offered fine dining, the food has generally been good. It isn't an idyllic village pub, but catch it when there's no sport on the numerous TVs and it's a nice enough place for a drink. So we decided this week that it was time we dropped in for lunch. We ordered two steak and ale pies. After forty minutes waiting, in a near empty pub, we asked if we could expect our food soon? It turned up a couple of minutes later, seriously overdone. We should have sent it back, although it should never have been served up in that state in the first place. But after the long hungry wait we decided to press on. The pie crusts were badly burnt and my pie filling had an unpleasant greasy taste. When we came to pay we were asked by the barmaid if everything was OK? We had to say that, in all honesty, it really wasn't very nice. "Nobody's ever complained before. People rave about our pies." Like it was our fault for not enjoying burnt pastry! This is our village local and we will no doubt pop in for a drink from time to time, but when we fancy a pub lunch we'll look elsewhere.
