An absolute must place to visit for food and drinks! We arrived for a big family and friends get together, greeted by very friendly staff at the door. The place itself is extremely clean and very warm and inviting. I speak on behalf of everyone when I say this, the food was absolutely gorgeous! Some of the best we've had! We can't wait to go back again. Thank you so much to the courthouse and you're amazing team!

We had a lovely lunch with friends, don't go by the menu you read on line as the special board is very good. We went on a Friday so you would expect lots of local fish, no fish and chips and we had the last three fish pies and that was midday so it could have been a bit disappointing for further guests. Our food was lovely and a good size portion, husband had the slow cooked beef which fell apart as was so tender. Our table was right infront of the special board which was a bit off putting when customers wanted to read the board while we were eating, we did try and move but the young waiter chap said no as that was our allocated table

It was our first time visit to this lovely restaurant. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left it was brilliant service. Greeted with a warm welcoming smile, taken to our table straight away and seen by lovely attentive staff. The food was absolutely delicious, my friend and I had the beef and truffle pie with mash, veg and a side jug of red wine jus. Delicious. We then had to go for a dessert, mine was apple crumble with custard and my friend had the crème brûlée. Equally delicious. This will be the first of many visits to come. Thank you Megan you did your employer proud.

A wonderful experience, the food, and the staff was first class. We had to wait an hour due to a bulb blowing in the kitchen where our food was situated but believe me when it did arrive it certainly was worth waiting for. There was six of us and we all agreed that we would come back again. In fact we have booked again for January when there will be 10 of us. I am so looking forward to it. We'll done The Courthouse 👏👏

Food, Drink and atmosphere is excellent although there is one member of young staff who stood by the bar, chatting in detail about her love life (many names where used) and had the laugh that could break glass, the other staff were very hard working, hopefully next time I visit she won’t be working

A few friends, we went to the Cross Inn, Gt Bromley for the night. Fantastic atmosphere with friendly staff and clientele. This night was special as Sammy B was performing live in a small friendly country pub. Singing a range of popular music across the decades. And at £3. Per pint and shorts equally as cheap the whole evening was great value for money and I am looking forward to the next night at this community pub. Big thank you to the landlady.

This pub was bought by the community a couple of years ago. They have gradually brought it back to being a thriving little pub. The decor is clean and they had a wood burner blazing on a cold winter’s day which made it more inviting. There’s a brand new extension which is wheelchair accessible from the car park. This entrance leads to the toilets and a disabled Radar toilet accessible at all times. Don’t expect food every night but do expect a warm welcome and lots of great ales and gins. There’s also a monthly events calendar. This month there was a quiz, a bingo night, a visiting pizza van, a vinyl night, a Sunday dog walk, live music and also an open mic night and on Friday evenings there’s a small bar menu on offer for only £7.50 a meal. It seems that this pub knows what their local community wants and are delivering it. Well done!

Now in the ownership of the villagers this pub has seen much change over the last few years. The bar area has been enlarged and enhanced, home-cooked food is served at various times including breakfast and supper. There is a monthly quiz, a weekly post office and small library which will order in books for you on request, coffee and home made cakes and scones are usually available at this weekly daytime opening and children are welcome then too. There are excellent, well kept ales and a good, community atmosphere. The carpark is not large so if you are visiting on a music night you might want to arrive early. This is run by the community volunteers and at the moment is not open every day so it pays to check their website if you are making a special visit.

The Cross Inn has changed hands in the past few years and is now entirely community owned and run. It is now a lovely pub with a good, welcoming atmosphere, nice updated décor inside and out and great beer. Highly recommended.

Another Friday night and another long-awaited trip to The Cross. Time for me to see if I needed to polish the shine off my rose-tinted spectacles, or if it really was as good as my last visit six months before. It wasnt - it was even better (now Tripadvisor need a six-star rating!). What was better Mike? I hear you ask. Well, the beer was better for a start - great selection of craft beers and ciders, bottled local lagers, I could have spent much longer working my way through the beers, but then I would have spent much longer getting home, and getting up next morning - so probably not such a good idea! Secondly - the food came round - this time home-made sausage roll from the menu - it was porkie heaven - I must go back for the food one night. Thirdly - I have been to a few pubs lately where my vocabulary has been considerably improved in the anglo-saxon vernacular - I actually really dont like sweary pubs (dont get me wrong - I'm not a prude - if I hit my thumb with a hammer I can find some pretty choice words) - so the atmosphere in here was that of a propper local boozer - good banter, but you woudn't blush infront of your grandmother (actually - my Grandmother could probably out-cuss a ships stoker) Mike's top tips for the Cross 1- Check the opening days - its community run so generally good at weekends 2- Go for food - if you want excellent home-cooked stuff it seems spot-on 3- I see that they have Riverside fish and chip van round occasionally - worth a trip for great beer and great F&C! 4- Go thirsty and hungry 5- Enjoy

My mate and I dropped in here one Sunday lunchtime by random. A warm welcome from Steve the barman soon had us equipped with a fine pint of local ale which clearly had been looked after. Steve explained the community involvement in keeping the pub open and I have to say the dedication of himself and the volunteers that keep the venture running is to be highly respected. Looking at the list of up and coming events, there is clearly community in need of this social enterprise. It is a shame that I live the other side of Colchester, otherwise I think I would be there very regularly to add my opinion to their beer quality control and get involved with the quiz nights, dinner evenings, music events and the like. Well done to Steve and your mates. Keep it up.

Called here with friends on a friday nght for a couple of beers after dinner. Very warm welcome, good advice on selection of drinks - and very well priced. Two great things then happened - and bit like an episode of "Game of Thrones" I didnt see them coming and I am still surprised! Firstly - on getting the second round in the landlady remembered exactly our first order, secondly, we were sitting quietly having a chat when plates of cheese-on-toast and chips were delivered freshly prepared to our table - and it was all wonderful. I believe this is a recently created community pub - its great - i wish the team all success - strongly believe that with this kind of proposition, service, atmosphere and attention to detail it will succeed beyond all expectations.

This traditional local pub was saved by the community six month ago. Since then a huge amount of work has gone into refurbishment. At the moment,(May2017) there is no kitchen, and hence no food as the kitchen is being renovated. Opening times Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday lunchtime. Loads of events such as quizzes, music nights, games nights, wine tasting, pop up barber and much more.

Ok, I'm biased because I'm one of the 152 local people who have invested in this village pub and enabled it to re-open as a community owned, community managed and community run pub. But it's a great little boozer, run entirely by volunteers. Please call in and I hope you'll understand what we mean. Open Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings 6:30 till 11 and Sunday lunchtime 12 noon till 3. No food till we can afford to buy some kitchen equipment, but that shouldn't be long.
