The Cross Hands Hotel Restaurant in South Gloucestershire

We had a lovely dinner! Service was great. Food delicious. Most recommended.

We booked a table as we we're celebrating our engagement and we're greated wonderfully by the staff who accommodated us at a table to suit my disability despite it not being in the dining area. We ordered a starter of a sharing board and it was incredible as the quality of the meat and cheese was 5star and the quantity was impressive. We we're then recommended a champagne by the manager Paul who congratulated us and was super friendly and professional whilst also respecting our privacy. The mains did not disappoint as my partner had the lamb shank which literally fell off the bone and I had the risotto which was one of the best risottos I've ever had and I've been to alot of Italian restaurants! The staff were so kind and lovely towards us which made our experience on point. I can't thank the staff enough and the chefs for the incredible service and food at affordable prices. We can't wait to come back! Thankyou crosshands for making our celebration perfect!

Lovely pub. Staff are excellent, but don't expect the parent company manager to welcome you. They refuse to employ enough catering staff for walk-in customers. Had to wait 2 hours for a meal.

When we arrived, there was no one to check us in, we were told someone would be right with us but 10 minutes later and still nothing. We were then told they were busy dishing up desserts so we would have to wait. It was a disgrace

Ondanks de fijne ontvangst door een jonge medewerker is ons verblijf hier tegen gevallen. Het raam van de slaapkamer kon niet open, was defect. Bij het avondeten liep alles mis: starter onvolledig en aanvulling werd gebracht tijdens hoofdgerecht. Hoofdgerecht was niet oké. Alle roast en kip gerechten waren niet bestelbaar. Ook de dag daarna niet.Gevraagde wijn was niet beschikbaar. En de helft van de tapbieren waren er niet.

Went in sat at a table in the bar and went up to order to Sunday roast and was told they are not doing walk ins,the place wasn't full so they missed out on 2 adults meals and drinks

We booked at short notice online (day before), for the restaurant only, for 8 friends and family for Monday 5.8.2024. Great table, not busy, nice atmosphere in restaurant, unmatched parking. The gentlemen who was sole front of house in the restaurant is a credit to your organisation. The food & drink orders were accurate, food was delivered promptly, we all enjoyed our meals and any requests were fielded with a great sense of humour/good grace. We all had a great time. Look forward to visiting again.

Dropped in for lunch on a Tuesday - excellent! Very friendly staff, lots of space inside and loads of car parking outside. New management in place since July 2024. Excellent location and a great spot to meet up at - super easy to find from all directions. Just a few minutes off the M4 J18. Nice mix of areas within the pub - less formal pub area as well as more formal dining room area, but friendly service throughout. Will certainly return.

Found animal hair in my 6 year old daughter’s pizza, then we checked our plates and found dog hair in the food. We barely touched the food and drink, thus left after speaking to the manager who was apologetic but we was extremely upset. The excuse we was given by the manager. “We have a new chef that has a dog….” My wife just recently under went major abdominal surgery, my eldest daughter also had major surgery on her head, and on the day was my birthday. Imagine if they both ate the food and got food poisoning due to the dog hair!!!!! Cross hands you should be ashamed!!!!! We will not return here ever again and will be reporting it to local authorities. Update: REPLY TO CROSSHANDS: I would not of expected to be charged for food that was just served to our table and dog hair over all our dinners that we thankfully saw the dog hair before the meals were consumed. One of my daughters ate one or two bites of her burger before we noticed in my other daughters 6 year old childs dinner the dog hair,.. then proceeded to stop my family eatin, remove any food from their mouths, and check the rest of our food, which all had dog hair!!!!! We only had a couple of sips of your drinks that was served so if you think not charging me for this expereince then offering one free drink (which I refused) as an apology is acceptable to your business then I do not think you should be working in this industry. The excuse you provided "A new chef has a dog..." I think is beyond a joke... I think south glos. council would have one or two things to say about that no ? I do not know how you all managed to get a 5 start food hygeine rating,, however we will NEVER return to you premises EVER again. I cannot bear to think of the consequences if my family did fully indgest any of your food! You all should be ashamed really - serving dinner to people with animal hair. You need to be reported and get your act together its is not acceptable at all. We ended up going to the Bell Inn which as always is clean, friendly and fantasic food! Bell Inn you saved the day!

Sunday Lunch very disappointed broccoli too hard to eat, roast potatoes and carrots plus meat!!! Not an average Sunday roast served in pubs!!! Surprised at the lack of people.

Came in for a family meal and were looked after by Andy and Sam. Food was great as normal and service from Andy was exceptional

Impromptu stops are always a gamble, but this place is very highly recommended for a lovely service today and also serves fabulous coffee, the young gentleman was happy to fill my own cup so we could continue our journey after our comfort break, and price wise such good value, much less than a service station or motorway cafe, we will definitely call again if passing, thank you for making our day 🤗

First time we have eaten here, we had a starter and main, prices were reasonable, the meals were very tasty, there was a bit of a delay but Andy who took our order told us about a big party that was in and apologised that there may be a wait. The restaurant was lovely and comfortable, with nice moody lighting. Andy and another young male waiter were friendly and were brilliant in keeping us informed. We will definitely be going back.

Having read recent reviews I was unsure whether to eat here, however, service was excellent, food was hot & fresh. Grandchildren enjoyed there first visit to Crosshands & we will definitely return with them. Thank you to both Joshua & Sam whose service was both friendly and welcoming.

My family and I had a meal here last week to celebrate my mums birthday. There were 9 of us so they put us in the private dining area. We are a loud bunch so this was much appreciated! The food was amazing! Couldn't fault it. Really friendly service and they couldn't do enough for us. Fantastic prices too! We will be coming back many times im sure. Highly recommended for a meal here.

Very warm welcome, diverse menu including vegetarian options. Service from our waitress Kelly made the evening and was faultless. Atmoshere brilliant, surroundings comforting and welcoming, all finished off with excellent good value food.

Dreadful. We were in there for 20 minutes without acknowledgement. The table clearly hadn't been wiped down after the last couple of sittings (dry crusty sauce) and the two tables we tried after were much the same with sticky drink spillage, crumbs and salt granules. Queue at the bar with no one behind it. We left without even ordering a drink. Management clearly not staffing the place adequately. Lovely building tho.

Celebrated my sons wedding, was put in a private room and allowed to decorate the table and make it special. The meal was excellent, the service fantastic and they made us all feel welcome. Highly recommended for everyday and special occasions.

A lovely pub in a great location

We arrived for our family meal,to find that we were double booked. A very helpful and friendly member of staff Christine found us somewhere to sit and wait . She gave our granddaughter some sheets and crayons to do She kept us updated whilst we waited and when we got our table she still found time to come over and see if we needed anything whilst we waited for our meal

We booked their Sunday lunch for Mother’s Day. I have to say the food was fabulous and the staff were amazing considering how busy they must have been today. We all loved the food, thank you!

I have stayed here 3 times now due to business. For the value you can't go wrong. The hotel itself is very nice, staff are very friendly and professional with how a hotel/ Lodge should be run. The food is excellent. For the cost you can not argue. I would personally say I prefer this place to some of the mainstream establishments I have previously stayed in. This is my honest opinion and review. Go and see for yourself.

We visited today 4th March for lunch. We were just passing and were not disappointed. It was spotlessly clean, both the restaurant and the toilets too. Staff friending. The food I would say was the best Greeneking food we have eaten. I would definitely recommend going there.

Come here on sundays, food is amazing, a lovely woman called Kelly serves us, she always has a smile on her face and is so friendly and talkative, she makes our meal 100 times better with her service kelly deserves 5 stars

Had a lovely lunch today for my husband’s birthday so I’m so glad it was nice. We came for my birthday back in August 2023 and the food was awful - we complained to the waitress who just said ‘sorry kitchen is busy today!” This is our 1st time back since Aug 23 and we we’re obviously lucky today

Booked and stopped in the Crosshands for breakfast on the way back from a family wedding. We had a good breakfast but what made the experience the more enjoyable was the exceptional service offered by Donna. She could not have been more attentive and welcoming. Thank you.

Absolutely shocking food my partner ordered the lamb shank and this is what she got a microwave shank and not even a kids portion of mash. I had the Cajun chicken and all I got was fried chicken with no Cajun flavour whatsoever. We complained straightaway and they said that was the standard portion of mash for a £20 lamb shank but they did bring more out. They took my chicken away and brought it back but no different from the first lot. None of the staff bothered to come over and ask if everything was ok and when we left which we did as soon as we finished are food which didn’t take long they said in a cocky manor enjoy the rest of your day. Complete waste of £60 odd quid. I would never go back and hope that nobody has the same experience as we did. Such a shame a lovely building with lots of history is ruined by such poor service and food.

I am a regular here and always chose over a big hotel due to the friendly staff, great pub food and excellent value for money.

We had a lovely tasty lunch and were well looked after by Chloe and Dave. Very pleasurable. I was pleased to see I could swap out chips and peas for a nice light salad.

The cross hands easily earns a five star rating from me. The pub area is clean, tidy and has a traditional look. The Beer is well kept and on par with real ale pubs in the area. I have had food from the regular and specials menu and found them tasty and filling.

Four of us visited the cross hands tonight for some food. They were very busy with only one member of staff serving. But none the less the service was great and we will certainly be going back. Special mention to Andy, very polite and couldn’t do enough for us.

After visiting in January (sat in the restaurant) and having a fab lunch we decided to return (sat in the bar area). A warm welcome from the bartender and friendly and attentive staff. Ordered two lamb shanks and Asian sticky pork which didn't disappoint. A little wait but worth it!! Highly recommend. We will be back 😊 Only suggestions would be to let customers know if there is going to be a wait and if possible a roaring fire would be fab!! See you soon :)

Went for a celebratory family lunch. 7 of us took over 2 hours to get the main meals which were a mix of ok, warm and cold. Carvery looked more like a school dinner with luke warm, gloopy gravy. Clearly not enough staff on however those there were helpful but definitely not recommended.

Thought we would try it out as reviews were good, only two members of staff running bar and restaurant, lovely ladies but rushing round all evening. Went to bar to get own drink as didn’t get asked, meat was fatty ( weatherspoons looked 10 star up to this plate ) and fish dish had no flavour, couldn’t be bothered to stay for pudding. Really disappointed but not a reflection of those two poor staff members that were rushing around

Awful Sunday lunch. The meat was dried out and curling at the edges. Cold roast potatoes. No crackling or parsnips, even though these were on the menu. Yorkshire pudding was abysmal, can't believe the chef served it! Totally soggy. Too thick gravy and not enough of it. Kids corn on the cob dry and wrinkly. Slow service, we'd booked a table but no one seemed to know where our table was. Was directed to a table with 3 seats (we were a party of 4), then to a table not set and again with 3 seats, even though lots of other tables were available. We paid as I felt sorry for our waiter as he said people were off sick, but I regret that now.

Stayed here for the one night and was disappointed from arrival to leaving..couldn’t wait to leave to be honest..stayed in a double room which isn’t cheap at £70 a night the room was outdated and dingy lampshade above the bed was dirty and broken walls...

I fnd it disheartening to believe that the management of this establishment is actively contributing to a negative dining experience. Despite our attempt to order Sunday lunch at 12:30 pm, we were informed they had only pork left after supposedly selling out. Even with a near-empty venue, the available menu options were limited, with only one rump steak remaining. This experience led me to contemplate searching for an alternative Sunday lunch venue on my phone within the area, having all travelled a distance to attend with friends, despite having a pre-booked table. I would strongly advise checking reviews before considering this place, as it proved to be a substantial letdown for a hotel/restaurant of its caliber. It's unfortunate that such a flagship establishment appears to fall short, possibly reflecting on the board of directors and others in how things are progressing at this outlet.

We had a Sunday Roast here today. It was for a group of 4 and a last minute plan, it was nice & busy but managed to get space in the bar for lunch. Service was only given 4 stars due to little longer than average wait at bar to order food & drinks, as the bar staff were clearly working as efficiently as they could with the volume of customers at the bars at time of our arrival. However they saw we were waiting & apologised for the wait and would come to us as soon as able. Which they did. Sunday roasts were pork for my party & mushroom & Stilton Wellington for me. It was lovely. Very tasty and portion size just right rather than being too large as often is in pub/restaurant venues. My friends reported the pork was tender. The wait for food was not long considering busyness of venue and serving staff helpful, professional in their service. We finished and then went onto order dessert which again was very pleasant. Having crumble, chocolate brownie & cheesecake between us. Overall the food was very good, service was professional and venue of this age very nice. The team could do with more staff for Sunday service but this could be due to reasons unknown to us. Hotel was clean & tidy with nice ambience. Toliets clean & tidy. I have read other recent reviews and cannot say I experienced the same as they have. I would recommend this place for a visit and will visit again in the future.
