The Cross Hands Hotel Restaurant in South Gloucestershire

As a place to get some thing to eat beautiful. As a place to stay not bad. My room was very tight. Then mattress in the bed wasn’t very comfy, I could feel the springs in my back. The very tight shower was amazing. The best pressure I have had in a hero in a long time. Food was very good. WiFi wasn’t great but staff was very accommodating of this when I explained I needed internet for work while I sat in the bar. Overall very nice venue very friendly staff nothing seemed to much trouble. Glad my stay is only one night though because I could hear cockerels from very early in the morning and I had a very long drive ahead of me the next day.

Paul and the team were amazing. Very welcoming, fantastic food (shepherd’s pie was so nostalgic and comforting). Lovely clean rooms. Can’t wait to come back!

I wish to publicly thank the staff at The Cross Hands who were working on Sunday 11th May 2025. Unfortunately, we had a car accident outside their establishment, police involved, car confirmed as a write-off. The staff from the Cross Hands came out to help us, offering towels, water, use of a phone, and even sweeping up some debris. They could have not been more helpful. Brilliant people. And the food is good!

Working locally at Badminton Horse Trials and we always visit the Cross Hands for dinner at least 3 times within the week that we’re staying - the staff are always welcoming and the food is fantastic! Nothing is too much trouble, especially with a birthday celebration - as always, thank you team!

We stopped at the restaurant for a quick meal. Our meal was absolutely wonderful! One of the best we’ve had in England since our visit. The staff was friendly and very attentive! Highly recommend!

I didn’t have the pleasure of staying in the rooms, but I was working nearby. On our first night, we were warmly welcomed by Kirsty and the team, who were incredibly friendly and accommodating. Kirsty kindly arranged a last-minute table booking for us for the next three nights. The food was absolutely delicious each evening, and the service was outstanding, we truly felt looked after. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. Top marks for both food and service! Thanks to Kirsty & the Team! X

Great place for lunch. Just a few minutes away from Bath but well worth the drive. A great place for a break. Christine was very helpful and very nice. Great service. The food was delish. I’m vegetarian and there was plenty of choices. The started humus was amazing. The mushroom pie was also delish.

We arrived damp and cold after a day of hiking the Cotswold Way and were welcomed warmly. Our room was lovely, and much larger than most British pub hotels. Our dinner was great, an award-winning ham and chicken pie, and a big bowl of sweet potato and butternut squash soup. Staff really seemed to care about us, bringing us an extra duvet to warm us up. An interesting and great place to eat and spend the night!

I have visited the crosshands on numerous occasions over the past 10 years or so, its always been a pleasure to visit. The gardens look incredible and the food was A1. Lovely waitress called kirsty served me, and I was not disappointed. Fantastic all-round.

Very handy pub less than 10minutes from the M4. We visited with 2 small children and they were very welcoming with a great kids menu. My five year old said it was the best mac and cheese ever (and wants me to cook it like that!) Lots of food options for adults too, also tasty and good value.

We stayed overnight on a Sunday. It was lovely to see events going on at lunch time. We were welcomed by Paul who made myself, wife and our dogs very welcome. The room was large and clean and the staff were happy to help you out. It is an hotel that is trying to make the difference to their visitors.

Absolutely fantastic. Could not fault the food one of the best roast dinners we have had here. The new manager took the time to speak with us and was really friendly and welcoming. Definitely 100% recommend

Came here for food with my girlfriend. Location and look was lovely and atmosphere was very nice too. Food was alright, would give it 4 stars just about. Service was not great however. At the beginning we had one lovely waitress serving everyone but then she swapped for another waiter who was inattentive and rude. We were sat around wanting dessert for 25 minutes before we gave up and asked for the bill. He did not come over, instead he plopped the bill on the end of the table and said to pay at the bar ‘cause he was busy’. The restaurant was hardly half full.

Old school hotel with friendly staff. Good, reasonably priced evening meal. Breakfast is good quality but sooooo slow. Over 50 minutes from ordering to getting my eggs benedict, despite chasing twice. That’s too slow particularly for a weekday morning. Early warning and suggestion of faster alternatives would have been appreciated.

Arrived needing a small space to hold a meeting , was given free of charge a small private dining room space to use. Just located of the main Resturant. Served our lunch while we worked. Staff were amazing

This spot was an amazing getaway with clean facilities, an amazing room and yummy food. Paul and his team were very friendly and made us feel welcome, would recommend.

We turned up on a Friday evening, unannounced and without booking. That seemed to present no problem and we were welcomed enthusiasticly and offered a choice of tables in the lower restaurant level. We ordered drinks at the table and enjoyed these while taking our time over the menu. We were warned that several items were off, but none of those had been close to our choices. I chose gammon steak and chips, my partner opted for a steak. The food arrived after about 20 minutes, which I think is perfect. The food was predictable, good sized portions, well presented and enjoyable. Personally it wasn't hot enough for me, particularly the peas, but that's just me I think. When it came to paying we wanted to use Blue Light card for the first time. We had a problem, the ap was misbehaving and we couldn't get it to work. Paul, our genial larger than Life Scottish host, though busy, was so helpful and talked us through the procedure. All in all a very pleasant experience. We would and shall return.

Went with family for a Sunday roast, disappointed that the food was luke warm and appeared to have been heated up possibly microwave ( piggies in blankets definitely) The side order dishes were small portions and also luke warm. Disappointed, edible but really average

We started to come to the Cross hands a few months ago. Every single time the food has been amazing. We have tried different dishes and always loved the food. Sam was so friendly and welcoming, giving attention to our dog . We are surprised, that the place wasn’t packed out. There a welcome addition of a hotel. When my mother comes down, I’ll definitely be booking a room for her

My daughter and I stop in every two weeks. With a blue light discount it makes worth while for us. We really do enjoy our stops and generally always have a roast. But, the quality of the roast is so inconsistent! Last Sunday it was top notch, meat, gravy etc was bang on but another week it can almost be inedible. It was quite bad at one point we stopped coming. The place has definitely not been the same since the manager Andy left last year. I enjoy it when I see Joe (bar) working because I know I'll get good service and another young lad (restaurant) as they are consistent and they know us now. I've seen a lot of staff come and go over the years and it really does effect the pub and the quality all round. But, we will still keep coming!

Came with a party of 13 including 5 children, we hadn't booked. The Cross Hands we're really good and and put us in a private room, they we're absolutely brilliant.

Booked for a birthday gathering; I was advised to pre-book food. I don't often like this, as I like to choose on the day. But it was so much easier, and they accommodated those wishing to change. Food came out in great time; they allowed a closed area for us as we had children. The staff were brilliant. I would definitely recommend. Come here for the first time today and was blown away by the service and quality of the food. 10/10 would recommend

"Above and beyond: Exceptional service and care." We were delayed on our journey, but Sam, the duty manager, took the initiative to phone and check if we were still on our way. When I confirmed we were, he let me know the kitchen was due to close at 9pm, just before our arrival. Instead of leaving it there, he spoke to the chef, who kindly stayed behind to prepare a meal for our party. This is what exceptional service looks like. Sam didn’t have to track down my details and call, and the chef could have easily left at the end of his shift. Their actions went above and beyond, and they are both an absolute credit to the hotel. Highly recommend.

Perfect place to meet family. Just off the M4. Great food and excellent service. So reasonable with wonderful, friendly staff who couldn't do enough!

The pub is very un welcoming. Three fire places and not one was lit on a cold winters night. Asked the barman why and he couldnt really answer. Absolutely no atmosphere and the lounge has been converted into a pool table room. We shall not visit again.

Had a christmas meal here with the family that was delicious, atmosphere was great and the staff were friendly as always. Always happy with the service and food provided!

Christmas lunch at The Cross Hands, Old Sodbury was amazing. Soufflé, roast turkey and a cheesecake that was soooo delicious, and then a mince pie and coffee. Thank you so much to Paul and the staff for excellent service and attention to detail, with special thanks to Sam and Jacob. A truly wonderful meal that made our day special. The Festive Fayre meal with had there with friends on Saturday was equally as delicious! Highly recommended for amazing food and great service.

Went for Dinner on Xmas eve, food was very good, staff mega friendly, definitely we will be back again.

Visited many times and the food here is always extremely good. The Salmon fish cakes are outstanding , I gad them today. The menu has a wide choice so you will always find a meal to enjoy

Fantastic meal with my Daughter and Grand children. Great service, lovely food (all clean plates) and good value.

We had a table booked for 1.15, we arrived a little early and were shown to our table, we were told our waitress would be over to take our orders in a few minutes, 45 mins later we had to chase for our server. We placed our order, and the drinks came over shortly followed by our starters, we then had to wait a further 45 mins before our main course arrived. When it did arrive the meat on the roast was only warm and not hot like the rest of the food on the plate. I will not be coming back to the Cross hands any time soon.

Following a brief, weather affected, visit to a nearby National Trust (NT) property, we called-in here for a snack lunch. We would have preferred to eat in the NT café, but it was rammed, and getting a table was impossible. We were aware of options further away towards Chipping Sodbury and Yate, and also eateries in the small villages on the A433 towards Tetbury. Our last visit to this hotel/pub/restaurant was probably back in 2015, and to be honest at that time this wasn’t the smart and comfortable place that it is now. We did have a meal during that earlier visit; the lack of both food quality and comfort was probably the reason our return being so long-coming. There is now an air of space in the bar area which is most agreeable, and the furnishings are of good quality. Happily we were able to find a free table, in the bar area, and therefore have a snack meal in comfort. The alternative would have meant taking a table in the, attractive and welcoming, restaurant which we understand does not offer snack meals. Also, from what we could see, it was quite busy in the restaurant. We studied the menu and both chose from the Ciabattas menu, deciding that the “Rump Steak Sandwich” was a good option. The “thinly sliced” rump steak was to be served in a ciabatta roll with crispy onions, rocket and mayo, served with English mustard mayo on the side. To complete our order we chose an Americano coffee with hot milk each; these were delivered promptly. The snacks were not long in arriving and looked good on our plates. The ciabatta sandwiches were tasty, and all of the steak on my Partner’s plate was perfectly good. My sandwich was not as good; with about 15% of the steak being inedible gristle. I raised this matter with our waiter and he said that the lack of quality would be brought to the attention of their supplier. This of course missed the point; in that it was me that was out of pocket having paid for my sandwich expecting to eat it all. Thus I did not receive value for money because of their quality issue. What we had for our snack meals was otherwise good with a very strong mustard mayo. The service was pleasant and efficient. We were very impressed with the lower wine prices, in comparison with other local establishments we have frequented, for the same brand of wine. Sadly though, as it’s too far to walk and there is no bus service, we would have to drive here and then not be able to share wine.

We’ve been going to The Cross Hands for many years and today’s experience was the best for a long time. Paul and his team did an excellent job making sure we had a great time. We especially liked the dog menu. A great dog friendly pub we will recommend to our friends and clients.

Gotta say I wasn’t expecting much, a place to grab a bite and sleep whilst attending a family party that’s about it, however we very much enjoyed our stay the room was clean and very comfortable and the food was also very enjoyable, but the highlight was the staff who were very friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. Highly recommended

Really terrible service someone needs to get a grip on this business management rubbish. Staff over worked clearly being let down by poor management team. This place used to be banging great food really happy atmosphere now it’s like faulty towers on a bad day. Menu change is rubbish up to old menu and the prices have gone up no wonder the place is so empty.

Me and my family had breakfast with Santa at the cross hands and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The staff were friendly and helpful + the food was great with various options for gluten and milk free members. We will certainly be back and hope to do the same next year

We attended the cross hands at the beginning of December. My father had come down to visit and needed a last minute place to go for food. Kirsty and Kelly squeezed us in no problem at all. Everything was cooked brilliantly and the service was amazing. We will definitely be going again.

Great location for stopping off from travelling. Bar food very good and staff always very welcoming which has lead to us visiting often for many years.
