The staff really made you feel welcome and friendly. We had a great night and the karaoke, full of laughter and fun. Thank you for making us feel so welcome.

Great service in all the pubs i've been in

Stopped in for a quick drink with my wife on our way back to the hotel, the place went quiet as we walked in like a scene from American werewolf, 5 or 6 men were stood at the bar just staring at us,we ordered a drink each and sat at a table hoping the staring would stop but it didn't!! I've never drank a pint so quickly and my eyes were hurting from trying to avoid eye contact and potentially getting a beating. If you're not a local avoid this place !!!!!!

Decent place outside of the town centre for a quiet drink.

Went in to play pool and watch a football game. Ample seating areas and pool tables. The bar staff were nice and helpful.

Been in on a number of occasions now. Clientele seem really good and can get a conversation going, football on and there are pool tables too. Disappointingly the girl/guy behind the bar really needs to get some customer manners!

Katie and Hilary (sorry if I got your names wrong) we're absolute angels. I missed my train to Chester and went in asking for help after 40 mins and 20 failed phone calls. When I did ask at the bar whether anyone could help me out so I didn't miss my connection, I was not expecting anything positive. Buttttttttttt, they both went well above and beyond to ask Ben (friend of the pub by the looks of it) if he was up to helping me out and he generously obliged immediately. No questions asked. What an absolute legend! An experience I won't soon be forgetting. This is what hospitality is about. It's not at all something you see often. They obviously love their work, and are a massive part of the community and above all else, are obviously good people. If you are anywhere near Gobowen, do yourself a favour and go see these lovely human beings. Thank you so much for ensuring I wasn't stranded! ❤️

Found this place looking gor somewhere to watch the football great sporty atmosphere lads playing pool in an adjoining room next to the main bar lots of people popping in and out nice locals pub.

Its like a relic from 30yrs ago. Reasonable prices, plenty of pool tables and friendly regulars. Bar staff are good. Little tired inside but your not there for the decor. Worth visiting for a game of pool.

We arrived in Chester after a long drive from South Wales and went into the Cross Foxes for a relaxing drink with our baby son. The staff saw us enter with the baby and happily took our money for drinks and then we were told to leave the pub literally after buying our drinks. We were sitting in a quiet corner not bothering anybody and was told to leave as they are not licensed for children. My husband had to stand outside in the rain and cold whilst I finished my drink. Needles to say, we won't be returning.

Absolutely brilliant place. Staff are extremely helpful and very friendly. Food is amazing with a great menu....all cooked fresh by Janet! Also the locals that use it make you very welcome. Would highly recommend. Nothing is too much trouble so thank you.

I went to see a band, a good band as it turns out... I like the fact this pub are going down the live act route more should... The building isn't really set up for band but hay Keep the faith and thx for a good night

My mate Sam was on about the Boughton mile. This was the fifth on the route. Great beer. Very loud playing pool though. Unfortunately didn’t do lasagne.

Nice local pub, prices are fair, there's a lovely beer garden and karaoke once a week. There's also a pool table available which I'll have to give a go at some point. Staff are lovely and make you feel welcome!

The bar staff are fine and it's a proper old boozer but the old beer bellied grizzled fella who asked if I was a woman for ordering Strongbow Dark Fruit brings the atmosphere down somewhat. Still, if you're after a timewarp ...

We enjoyed our experience there while visiting chester maybe not everyone's cup of tea but such a mixed bunch of characters . I told the gaffer there i would only give him half a star but see you next time mate. I hope the fellow playing pool found his girlfriend lol. See you all again sometime

Lacks atmosphere and needs a good clean Shame it seems to have had a good refurbishment recently but lacks a good couple to run it

We Went on Tuesday for a quick beer with friends. All the staff were excellent and the Carling was a beautiful clean pint. The beer garden is much better loads of seating!!! Well done to you all I'll be back soon! 100 percent covid safe !!!

Nos quedamos cerca en la posada principal en un fin de semana para el cumpleaños de la esposa y llamamos a los zorros cruzados el viernes por la noche, nos sentimos muy bienvenidos y pasamos una buena noche, así que visitamos nuevamente el sábado por la noche y tuvimos una noche aún mejor. el propietario y el personal del bar fueron geniales y muy amables, los lugareños fueron todos muy amables, especialmente Lucy, que nos compró una bebida y Rosie, que nos presentó a la pequeña guinness. Definitivamente llamaremos la próxima vez que estemos en Chester.

Called in on the wifes birthday, we had a great welcome from the landlord and bar staff, and the locals we met were very friendly. Super friendly pub.

My twin brother Stephen and I visited The Cross Foxes on a recent trip to Chester, its a pub we always tend to drop into as it's such a warm and welcoming pub. I love the look of this pub, a traditional authentic interior, great decor and furnishings including a cool looking serving bar and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub all housed in a wonderful looking building, a mock Tudor style building, very eye catching indeed. We were here on a Wednesday night, pub was busy with a great atmosphere, greeted warmly by a very pleasant member of staff who served us a real ale each,we opted to have a pale ale each from Marston's Brewery, these were served in excellent condition, we just kicked back,chilled out and took in the great pub we were in. My pale ale was outstanding, a rich,full bodied, well balanced pale ale with a big hit of hops,very easy to drink,a real ale style I really enjoy, my twin brother Stephen also gave me a thumbs up to his real ale. We really enjoyed our real ales in here and although our visit was only fleeting as on every other visit to here we had a great time. The Cross Foxes Pub is easy to locate along Boughton. Opening hours are; Monday to Thursday, Midday till Midnight. Friday & Saturday, Midday till 1am. Sunday, Midday till Midnight. A great pub,one I highly recommend you visit if your in the area.

The very drunk manager came up to me and told me to stop leaning on the pool table. I of course did but he didn’t like that and kicked me out after shouting at regular all night in his drunken state. Trust me, don’t come here.

One of our locals if we can say so when we visit Chester as it’s on the way to town from our direction . It’s a standard run of the mill pub . It was around when my dad was young as he was born in Chester and in his 80’s. The old ones are the best they say . Although it may have been done up through the years and it seemed different since our last visit 4years or so ago , still welcoming and does what it says on the tin . I was going to have a beer but decided on the dark fruit cider and hubby had a Stella. Lovely and cold and went down very well. Reasonably priced for being so close to town. Again as a woman I wouldn’t think twice about popping in alone . There are many places I wouldn’t do this but the Cross Foxes is one I would go into alone or with family and friends . Thanks for a great start to our pub day.

The prices have increased recently, but it's a nice place to go if you want privacy as upstairs is usually completely empty.

Very noise customers especially after hours. Toilets need attention as does the decoration. Mid range prices but can get cheaper further into town.

Haven't visited for at least 10yrs,s since I moved from Chester, as a keen pool player it was great to visit again with my younger brother, very friendly felt welcome reasonably priced, will definitely be going again whenever I'm in the area, good choice!!
