Snugburys On The River in Cheshire West and Chester

Had a great snack with my daughter and dogs. The service was amazing. My daughter was given crayons to do some drawings and dogs were also given a treat as well. Would highly recommend.

Who is kidding whom? A specialist ice cream cafe that puts its ice cream away well before closing time🙄

This is the place. Great any day, unbeatable on a sunny day, down by the river, with great views. Good food, drink, and the best ice-cream. Friendly staff. Go on enjoy yourself. 5*

Very pleasant hour having a light bite to eat followed by some delicious ice cream. We sat outside this time as the weather was gorgeous. Great place to eat and have a cuppa whilst people watching.

Lovely little place and a great location for a walk. Best cafe on the river. Excellent decaf latte and the home made veggie ‘sausage’ rolls are delicious. The cakes are home made and it’s great not to have the usual pre made cakes. Very dog friendly!

Sunugburys on the river is a lovely cafe with great views. All the staff are welcoming and friendly and the chocolate cake is to die for! Would highly recommend visiting for anyone down by the river.

Really disappointed as we frequent here quite often. Rude member of staff behind the counter, chaotic & disorganised, poor choice of cakes on offer so 2 of us decided not to order anything but 2 did. We overheard people complaining about their food and the service of some staff. The lad preparing the hot drinks was hospitable and did a great job. Unfortunately we won't be returning again!

Don’t bother!!!! The staff are so rude and shut the light off when people are still inside. Wasn’t even closing time. Disgusting behaviour! Should be absolutely ashamed of yourselves

Lovely place to eat and drink, fantastic team of people who work here who go above and beyond to provide great hospitality and customer care. Jenny and Rhea made us all feel very welcome and happy. Very welcoming and family friendly. Clean and well presented, lovely ice cream and coffees.

This place had gone downhill, they clearly don’t know how to make good quality strong tasty coffee, and the tea was very weak. Won’t be going back

We popped in for 'coffee and cake'. Snugburys is known locally as an ice cream producer on its own farm (elsewhere). This is really just another outlet offering ices, drinks and a few food items. Adequate range This cafe is in a nice location by the riverside. Most seating is unprotected outdoors. Service was rather chaotic, sadly, but this may have been a 'one off' problem..

Nice place on the river after walking the wall. Food choices are limited as in sandwiches, but. The quality is excellent. I would highly recommend the ham and cheese. The ham looked like it had been carved off the hock and I surmise the cheese was Cheshire with a cup of tea, very tasty. The selection of cakes etc, was better, it's a pity I don't have much of a sweet tooth.

Been a few times now, always polite and good food. Large benches and tables outside which is great for families or large groups but not so good if you are on your own.

They served me mint tea I asked for green tea the queue was far too slow for me to complain I may or may not visit again.

Called here why on a mini break and why we was out with our little pooch for a walk down the river . Excellent service, very pleasant staff who were very helpful . The food was enjoyable and not too expensive. So if you fancy a quick cuppa or coffee and a scone with jam and cream . Other food available. Give this place a go you will not be disappointed.

Coffee was not very good at all, tasted sour and looked like dish water. Having spent over 20 yrs in the coffee industry i expect to occasionally get lack lustre coffee but this was awful, didnt finish it. I had a nice sorbet however.

Ham and cheese sandwiches very good. Good sausage roll and kids sandwiches. Good selection of ice creams.

It's a vegan cafe so was limited food. I didn't know so asked if they did bacon on toast was told no. Ended up having a toasted tea cake, wouldn't mind they had a cheese and ham sandwich advertised on the board.

The cafe is lovely, the main reason to come here is for its cake and ice cream, but also the absolutely stunning setting it’s in makes a visit here totally worth it.

A lovely spot to stop off with plenty of seating inside and out. The outside area has lovely views of the bridge and river Dee. We had ice cream and had dietary requirements (gf) this was not a problem, with a board fully labeled to show what was gf and what wasn't. Gf Cones are available individually wrapped to prevent contamination. Ice cream was delicious, between us we had honeycomb, raspberry ripple and salted caramel. The staff were lovely, helped Us with the dietary requirements and nothing was too much trouble. All was done with smiles and polite conversation. Would highly recommend.

Beautifully fresh food and willing to make sandwiches the way you want them - in my case with no mayo! I'll be back for their rum and raisin ice cream at the weekend 😋

Had a lovely coffee, cake and ice cream here today. Friendly staff. Its nice and clean with plenty of outdoor seating.

This is a great little riverside cafe. We only used it for ice-cream but the ice-cream was very nice! Prices seemed a bit expensive but the quality of the ice-cream was good! We had a double cone, however this was basically a single cone with 2 large scoops of ice-cream. I do wish the diameter of the cone would match the diameter of the 2 scoops of ice-cream as this would make it MUCH easier to eat, would prevent any scoops falling off, and stop so much ice-cream running down your hands or dripping on your clothes. Overall a nice cafe though and well worth a visit!

Nice spot but ignored by staff who just left us standing there for ages. Nice pot of tea but they don't accept cash. Card only places like this will hasten the end of cash and when that happens prices will rise so the banks can take their cut of every single transaction you make from a cup of tea in a place like this to giving your grandkids a bit of pocket money everything will include a bank surcharge. We won't be returning.

Lovely place on the river dee in Chester. Great staff, great ice-cream and the staff were lovely. I spent a lovely half hour here as a pit stop during a 10 mile hike. I would go qgain, and I would recommend it.

It was amazing to be able to have a gluten free ice cream and cone on my walk along the river. The lady that served me was very knowledgeable and explained to her colleague (who was new) how she could get a new tub of ice cream out the back, how they must use a clean spoon to prevent cross contamination and to wear new gloves and to pop the cone in a completely separate area for me to collect. I felt very reassured and the ice cream was the best chocolate ice cream I’ve ever had!

Generously thick sandwich but very salty and one slice of bread stale (end of the loaf?). Nice location next to the bridge I crossed many times on my way to school.

Nice location, good coffee. Only problem is that it can be really crowd and you have to wait in a long queue to be served.

Popped in last Friday . A dull day when only the hardy souls were out walking . We were most welcome with our dogs . I just one to say two words : sausage roll ! The best sausage roll I’ve had in decades : more sausage than roll . Go, try one . You won’t be disappointed . I’ll be back .

Went in for a coffee unfortunately the atmosphere was spoilt by a dog dropping its guts it stank! Won't rush back it's unfortunate that you have to share a cafe with other people's pets.

Cold day,late in the day so not many customers, coffee fine, staff a little brusque but efficient.

We go to Snugburys all the time as we live in Chester and it’s located well on the river. Kids enjoy the ice cream or treats and the coffee is good.

Bulky server behind the counter seemed and sounded moody, petulant and arrogant. No greeting of any sort. When approached the till to pay, the second server behind the counter, wearing a pair of glasses, was a lot more inviting, greeting us with a hi and a smile. The second server seemed to be always available and was nice all the time. The first one who should be greeting people walking in is a liability.

Awful coffe tasted nothing like coffe just lightly browned hot water, totally overpriced. Will not be returning. Save your money

My guilty pleasure. Walk my sons dog from Eccleston Ferry to Chester but always head to Snugburys for lovely coffee, millionaire shortbread to die for and a free cone for the dog...love it...

Lovely place to visit after a walk by the river, very friendly, cheerful and helpful staff. We were served quickly, place was lovely and clean. Had an amazing hot chocolate and coffee, the vegan rolls were delicious and the cakes were beautiful, will definitely be visiting again soon added bonus was the dogs were allowed inside.

Very average service. No smiles or welcome. Slow to attend despite no queue. We just had coffee which was fine.

I have to say the woman who served us today was the most miserable person who ever I have spent my hard earned cash with we couldn’t get our drinks down us quick enough just to get out of the place to be honest 1St time and definitely the last time we venture into this place

Drinks disgusting Two coffees tasted nothing like a a freshly ground coffee Hot chocolate ! Just like a sweet dark coloured drink Diet Coke ok cos it came out of a Diet Coke bottle sealed For such a lovely scenic place to sit it’s just an expensive waste of money

We walked along the river it was a rainy day so we decided to drop in to this cafe , glad we did , it was clean and tidy the staff were very attentive . We all had a sausage roll and a hot drink , Im not a hot drink fan from cafes but theres was spot on . I would reccomend the sausage rolls if you are passing

What a great spot right on the river Dee! Beautiful scenery all around. Ordered sausage roll and sweet potato dal roll and coffees for both of us. We were both quite pleased and could not decide which roll was better. Clean place, nice employees, good food - couldn't ask for more.

We popped in for lunch after a lovely trip in the River Dee. We had superb generous cheese and ham sandwiches and tea. Lovely location at the riverside.

Great little place with fab views but please get your coffees right. The latte is a small cup of hot milk hardly any coffee. This should be served in a tall glass or cup! It’s not much to ask for a coffee shop!

Delicious ice-cream!! A bit expensive, but the staff give a generous scoop of ice cream; loads of flavours available :) Photos show chocolate brownie double scoop ice cream in a tub (£4.90), and a single scoop of honeycomb icecream in a cone (£3.90)

In my experience it was completly good! The atmosphere was lively and very pleasing, the service was pretty friendly and and they are right in front of the River Dee with a extremely relaxing and beautiful view. Money well spent!

I went to Snughburys to enjoy ice cream. Actually I didn’t try it but it looked good and also other students told me it’s quite reasonably priced. And I think it’s atmosphere is comfortable because it’s not busy in the afternoon in the week.

Stopped by for a coffee and toasted teacake. Very nice place and friendly staff.

First visit and will definitely go again when next visit chester, drinks and food were spot on. Seats inside and outside. One accessible toilet.

Truly awful food. No choice. Ham and cheese sandwiches or ham n cheese. The taste… I spat it out. Coffee again couldn’t drink it. We left everything. It was all disgusting. I really felt ripped off. My recommendation … DONT GO!

It's probably the best ice cream in Chester. The staff are very nice and give the most generous portions of ice cream. The atmosphere inside is pretty nice although it's always very busy. The selection of flavors for the ice cream is pretty good. Definitely will try the other flavors as well. Highly recommend!

Didn't eat.Self service, I forgot so they called us over (party of 4 over 70). Yappy noisy dogs, owners not bothered. We drank up and left asap in fear of our eardrums ☹️

Dropped in for coffee on Sunday with our grandson, he loved the ice cream. The coffee was very good too, as where the sausage rolls the best we've tasted in a long while!

We visit this wonderful cafe on Chester waterfront whenever we have a trip to Chester from Liverpool. Our last visit was a few days ago, and it is always friendly, clean and the food and drink excellent, and a lovely atmosphere. We took our relatives from Florida last year and they still talk about the amazing spicy sausage rolls they had there. This place is really worth a visit.

Great food delicious sandwiches

Great location right on the river. Great selection of icecreams, cakes and belting sausage rolls. Regular Sunday morning visitor with cycling friends but only recently had an issue with stale cake being served. Offered an alternative but should never have got to the point of being served to the customer!

Food is very limited. What to get sausage rolls but 30 minutes wait at 1pm. Had han and chesse sandwiches very dry. Overall very costly

£3.90 per single cone ice cream 😳. A way too expensive, even if quality is quite high .

Ice cream is so nice and the young lady who served us was lovely too but the older blonde lady taking the payment was so rude. My friend has trouble hearing and missed her say the total and she shouted so loudly with an aggressive tone absolutely no reason.

The sausage roll was lush & if you wink at them when ordering they cut you a slightly larger piece of chocolate cake (that second bit's not true)

As a coeliac I find it difficult to avoid cross contamination at ice cream places however these guys are so clued up! As soon as I mentioned I have coeliac disease they washed their hands, wore gloves, used a fresh scoop and fresh tub of the ice cream I chose to avoid any possible risks, super tasty ice cream too 😊

We visited Snugburys by the River yesterday, There was a huge queue for the ice cream, but i was amazed by how quickly we were served, the staff worked extremely quickly to get the queue down, while giving 100% customer service. The ice cream was absolutely delicious! A member of staff checked on us to ensure we were ok, and the toilets were very clean. We will definitely be returning.

Lovely place and friendly staff. However it was +£5 for a hot chocolate with a little cream on it.
